Yoga 920 wakes up from sleep mode with lid closed

Q: Yoga 920 wakes up from sleep mode with lid closed

Noticed that my Bluetooth headphones are connecting to the laptop while it's supposed to be sleeping with its lid closed. All the settings are configured to put it in the sleep mode when lid is closed. Is there anything else that would cause the laptop to wake up?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When the laptop is closed, pressure on the laptop will cause it to wake from sleep. There is no option in the BIOS or device manager to disable the wake from sleep option for the keyboard. Here is someone with a similar issue with the ISK1. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-900-keyboard-wakes-laptop-from-sleep/...

Hello. I know that this problem has been dissuced already here.My device is not a plain Yoga 900, but the(Yoga 900-13ISK2.Is there a bios update that will allow me to make sure that my computer stays sleeping while I move with it? From what I read, the problem seems to be that a key in the keyboard is being pressed and that wakes up the machine.  Thanks!    Doron

My Yoga 920 seems to ranomly wake from sleep when the lid is closed. I'd had several occasions when travelling to find my latop completely dead when I needed it - or finding it burning up in the confines of my bag. A few times, I've been alerted to problem when I happen to hear my laptop make a notification sound. When this happens, the screen is already on when I open the lid and much of the bettery has been used. I've seen this occur both in and out of my bag. Nothing is plug into the laptop other then the dummy USB holder for the pen. I have Vantage installed and all updates have been applied.

Hi All, I'm new to the forum and am loving my Y2P so far. I have been following several threads about tweaking my new machine, and I love the sense of community that you guys have here. I decided to join so I could pose a question: Has anyone had a problem with their machine waking up with the lid closed (in sleep mode). Sometimes when I take my computer out of my bag, it is awake. Since the power button is so hard to press in the first place, I don't think an accidental press is waking it up. Could a device be waking it up? What do you guys think? -IB

Yes, I have this too. Bad thing is I always have that in a laptop case so everytime when it wakes up it is baking-hot.

Hi,I close the lid, the 710 sleeps. I move the external mouse, the 710 wakes. No other laptop I've got does that, I'd consider it a bug. As a work-around you can untick "Allow this device to wake the computer", on the Power Management tab of the HIB-Compliant Mouse properties dialog. Now the mouse won't wake the laptop when the lid is closed, or open of course, which is not ideal. I then changed the wireless mouse, replacing an old Logitech with a new JETech 2.4GHz 0885, the untick was repeated but the mouse still woke the 710. Luckily a documented oddity it seems and unticking "Allow this device to wake the computer" for the HID Keyboard fixed the problem. No idea why one mouse needed this but not the other one. Is this problem of an external mouse waking a closed laptop specific to this model I wonder, and is it likely to get fixed? Cheers

Most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. Computer goes to sleep when lid is open, and wakes when lid is closed. I can open it about 20 degrees and work on it like nothing's wrong. I tried turning off the lid-sleep option in Windows, but no change, and it goes to sleep instantly even if it's in the BIOS or mid-boot. The machine is practically new with very little changed from the stock configuration, and it was fine yesterday. Anyone ever seen this? Also the power button and little reset hole seem to not do anything anymore either.

I have a Yoga 700-11ISK, and would frequently put it to sleep, put it in my backpack, & pull it out hours later to find it RED hot & the battery 90% drained.  After wasting an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out why it kept doing this (and damaging other items in my backpack due to the extreme heat), I came across this thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/25982/page/2 The problem is that the keyboard remains active even when the lid is closed, so if it gets squeezed in such a way that the screen internally presses a key, it will silently wake itself up.  Apparently Lenovo has spent the past four years churning out laptop after laptop that suffer from this defect, never thinking to learn from their mistakes.  Here are more:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-900-keyboard-wakes-laptop-from-sleep/...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Return-of-the-wake-while-lid-closed-proble...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/35267/page/6 I've tried the hack/script solution proposed in the first thread, but it doesn't work (the keyboard can't be disabled by DevManView without a reboot).  The other threads apply to the Yoga 900, which I guess Lenovo fixed with a BIOS update. This issue is such a problem that I've literally stopped carrying the laptop around...which was th... I want to demonstrate aproblem I have had with my Yoga 900 to see if others have had similar issues. I discovered this when I put my Yoga, (which was asleep) in my backpack, and then later noticed it was awake. It took me a while to figure out what was happening, but I finally determined that it had nothing to do with the backpack. My Yoga 900 would wake up when picked up by the short edge (as I did to put it n my backpack). You can see this in the video:Yoga 900 Waking when pickedup (BTW -- I am not squeezing the laptop, I am just holding it as needed to pick it up by the edge. This does press down on the lid and there is upward pressure on the bottom. It is the pressure on the cover that seems to be the cause of the laptop waking) Note that Lenovo has been great, and is sending me a replacement laptop. But I am curious if others see this same problem. Is this a common Yoga 900 Issue?

I think this is a fairly commn problem. I have tried to fix it by going into Device Manager and unchecking the box allowing the keyboard to wake the laptop from sleep, but thisboption was not even there.  Using Command Prompt in administrator mode and typing ?powercfg -devicedisablewake ?Standard PS/2 Keyboard?? does not work either. Command Prompt tells me I do not have permission to enable or disable device wake.  Is there a workaround or solution for this?

This has been happening since the last several days. I've tried system restore going back to Dec 31st and it hasn't helped the issue.

I've looked through the Advanced Power Settings options and not found something that appeared to be an issue to me. It still auto wakes up with Allow wake timers set to Disable and When sharing media under Multimedia Settings set to Allow the computer to sleep.

I also ran powercfg -lastwake in cmdafter an automatic wake up and these were the results:

Still a noob here and hopefully I have posted my question in the correct board.
Although this is not a major concern I need some advice or pick someone brains here as I am running Windows 8.1 professional.
I was just wondering, as I am having some concerns with my pc sometime through the night as it just wakes up for no reason.
I am not sure if someone is accessing this remotely or what but sometime I see a folder that is open or my email that shouldn't be or at least I think I have closed it before I put it to sleep.
I am not sure what to do as I have run my antivirus software with little showing up and my malware, completing a full system scan.
I also have looked at my even viewer pictured here to see if there is something unusual or strange happening.
Actually I am not really sure if I am viewing this or reading this correctly, and I was hoping if some one here could please assist me to figure out whats going on or if my system has been compromised.
Plz... thanks

I've actually had this problem for a while, I really should have taken care of it sooner. It is mostly because I found ways around it, which probably aren't too good for my computer. If I leave music running in the background and put the computer to sleep then the error won't occur. Needless-to-say - and as the title says- The system crashes upon waking up from sleep mode. The screen turns blue and says: "Sorry, your computer encountered an error and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you" The results from the diagnostic test have been attached

System recoveries and restores haven't worked, hence the reason why I've sort of given up on the problem until now. I'll be thankful with any sort of help!

Hi. I have a Lenovo C440 All-in-One deskstop computer. I've had it for about two years. In the poast few days, it has been waking up on its own whenever I put it into sleep mode. What is causing this and how do I fix it? It came with Windows 8 and I upgraded to Windows 10 about a month ago. I wonder if the Windows 10 upgrade has something to do with it but I'm not sure. I ran a full scan using Norton antivirus software today but obviously that didn't fix anything. So how do I fix this problem?

A:My Lenovo C440 wakes up from sleep mode on its own...

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
It is very possible that a Windows 10 update made some changes which now wakes up your system.  That OS has quite a few activites that run in the background.  Please review the article in my link below.  That information has helped others resolve their wake up problem.

t will wake up, even if I have not moved the keyboard and mouse.

The way it is supposed to work is that it is not supposed to wake up until I tell it to, correct? (usually with the keyboard and mouse)

I found this with a google search

1. Open a command prompt and run the command

powercfg -devicequery wake_armed

The command will list all the devices which can wake up computer.

I've done this and the only results I get are

1. HID Keyboard Device
2. HID Compliant mouse (001)

So, it's not my USB wireless network adapter.

Also, I changed windows update from Install updates automatically, to Download updates but let me choose whether to install them. On the previous setting, it was set to download and install them every day at 3AM, but I don't think this is it, because this is not the only time it will wake up without me touching the keyboard or mouse.

I also have Emsisoft Anti-Malware which is set to download and install updates every hour, which I want it to. Maybe I should ask them if there's a way it can do it without waking the computer up.

Maybe, but a better (and probably quicker) way would be to uninstall Emisoft (theres probably a removal tool) and temporarily install Microsoft Security Essentials | Protect against viruses, spyware, and other malware

If the problem continues, you know its not Emisoft thats causing it.

Otherwise, you might be wanting to have a look at scheduled tasks.

I understand that ACPI\PNP0C0E\2&daba3ff&1 is waking up my notebook.

What can I do to stop this ?

Any help is very much appreciated,

A:notebook wakes up just after enterd sleep mode

It sounds like your the sleep button itself is waking your computer. One thing you could try is disabling the sleep button's ability to wake your computer. You can do this in the power configuration.

Control Panel (All Items) > Power Options > Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Power Buttons and Lid

Change the action of the Sleep button from "Sleep" to "Do Nothing"

This behavior might also go away if your update/install the correct drivers for your notebook. I'm not certain which of the various sets of drivers you'll need, but you should be able to find them on your manufacturer's website.

Relevant information up front;

Desktop PC, Windows 7 Professional x64

Custom built PC, had it for about... 2-3 years now. Bought retail version Windows 7 and installed on construction, have not reformatted or any such thing since.

Intel Core i5-4430 CPU @ 3.00GHz 4 Core
AMD Radeon R9 280X, Sapphire GPU
MSI MS-7821 Motherboard
500W Bronze Power Supply (Not entirely sure of brand)
2TB Hard-drive split into 3 non-equal partitions.

? System Manufacturer
? Exact model number (if laptop, check label on bottom) -- Since it's custom built, I don't think either of these apply?

So, the issue at hand. I've usually let my computer go into sleep mode, rather than shut it off entirely- I normally only shut it off for updates or when I am away for long periods of time.

Lately, randomly, when powering back up from sleep mode, the computer will BSOD. Sometimes it is very quickly after the system booting up, other times it takes about a minute. It's been happening for about a week and a few days more regularly.

Other than that, I haven't been having any issues aside from some occasional artifacting, which is due to the Sapphire I have having been previously overclocked before it was given to me.

A:BSOD when computer wakes from Sleep Mode

Not sure if this was from the Verifier or not (following step 6, ran the Driver Verifier), but I rebooted and after about 5-10 minutes both of my screens became covered in - hard to describe, but a kind of hyper-stretched image? And the audio cut out. While I was writing this actually, it happened again.

I'm assuming now, as I write this in safe mode, that this is due to the verifier. The problem is that neither of these crashes have resulted in a BSOD, nor have they provided a mini-dump for me.

I'm going to try and shut off the Verifier, and see if that at least stops me crashing like this.

It's been like this since I installed Windows 7.

No device is wake armed except for the keyboard but I sure don't press anything (I'd have noticed and wouldn't be here).
When I put it to Sleep it sleeps for a second and then wakes up. If I try again, it may sleep without problems but suddenly after a while it wakes up again.

I used -lastwake and -devicequery wake_armed, "unarmed" everything and now it's like this ...

I don't know what's this fixed feature but I don't press ANYTHING. Any suggestions are welcome.

I've been noticing that my computer is randomly snapping out of sleep mode after a few hours.

I'm positive that I'm not bumping into the mouse or anything to accidentally wake it as I make sure to turn my wireless mouse off once I've finished a session on the computer. and often times the computer will wake in the middle of the night. I will select sleep mode before going to bed and when I wake up it will be running like normal, I'm really not sure what is causing this problem so if anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

I have a rather confusing problem with my newly built PC. The other day I was using my computer and it randomly shutdown on me without warning. I tried to turn it back on but the fans would only start to spin up but it wouldn't post. I let it sit for an hour and everything seemed fine. Then it happened again yesterday. This time I took notice of every detail. The computer seemed pretty hot. I did some testing and I learned that the CPU fan isn't turning on after I take the computer out of sleep mode. I tried all the settings in the BIOS and checked connections but it persists. I also uninstalled all the programs on my system that have fan controllers built in and tried swapping PSUs. Sleep mode is currently disabled. Has anyone ever seen this before? I think that the fan isn't getting enough voltage to get going because it starts to spin and quits about 50%. Sometimes it turns on sometimes nothing. The scary thing is my motherboard didn't give me any warning about the temps and for some reason my computer doesn't report the correct temps in any of my utilities. Bad sensors? Bug in BIOS? I don't know what else to check. Thanks

A while ago I had a problem with a Computer running Windows 8 Pro x64 where it would wake up very early in the morning or various times at night. It wasn't nice since the computer is in my bedroom. Eventually, a Microsoft Support person disabled the Wake Timers but that didn't help. Finally, for no reason at all--maybe it was a Windows Update (don't know) but it stopped doing it.

Recently, the computer has started to wake up on its own while in Sleep Mode, and then shut down in Hibernation Mode approximately one minute later after it has been in Sleep Mode for a while, apparently more than an hour or so. During the time the computer turns itself on, nothing is displayed on the monitor screen.

I have attached two screenshots of the last recorded issue, one showing the General tab info and the other showing the Details tab info, for your reference.

What is causing this problem?

On my custom gaming PC, I would sometimes leave it in sleep mode for extended periods of time (overnights, during the day, etc). On days I was home all the time, I never noticed it turn back on unless I did.
However, in the past 24 hours, whenever I put my PC into sleep mode, it will automatically turn itself back on for about 5 minutes, then sleep again. I'm not sure if it wakes a second time. I did notice that some updates were installed within that time, so I'm wondering if a setting got changed.
I did some reading up and took the following action:
1) prevented my network driver from waking the system
2) changed updates to once a week instead of every day (the time is set about 3 hours before this post). Did not restart after making these changes, though.
3) Installed all important and optional updates pending.
However, the problem persists. Powercfg -lastwake is showing \Device\HarddiskVolume2\System32\svchost.exe <wuauserv>. Research showed me that this was the the automatic update check, which I had disabled. Powercfg/requests does not turn up anything being used.
EDIT: have since restarted, also installed all graphics drivers. Computer will sleep, then wake after about ~8 minutes, go back to sleep, then wake after another ~8 minutes. Same message is displayed with -lastwake.

However the screen is totally black, fans spinning all lights on doing the their thing but totally unresponsive. I have to hold down the power button to restart the computer.

Funny thing is when I do all of my tabs, apps, games etc are open exactly where I left off after I turned off the machine.

Also my machine has NO trouble at all turning on/restarting from a cold boot.

Any help would be great, been bugging me for ages, I tried turning off hibernation etc but then I just lose the ability to continue on where I left off so im guessing it has to do with sleep.

Occasionaly if I pop it into sleep when I come back (maybe over an hour or more) it's already 'awake' into the black screen. Like something woke it up but the same problem of nothing happening is still there

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump.

Follow it: Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Dont run any disc cleanup tool before you upload another zip.

I am using the realtek onboard sound that came with my Gigabyte MB. Sometimes when I wake the computer up, it says that I disconnected the sound. However the speakers are still connected. Even if I plug in a set of headphones that I know work, the system will not recognize them. If I restart the PC the speakers are found again(it doesn't state this, I just have the sound back).

I have tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them. I downloaded the newest drivers from Gigabytes website and it still has the same issue.

By the way I am just using analog speakers.

Hi, I have a Lenovo Yoga 900 (Intel Core i7-6560U 3.2 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Windows 10) and have been experiencing the following issue since I purchased it: I put the laptop in sleep mode and into my laptop bag. The laptop will wake up by itself later despite the lid is closed. It then stays on as it's inside the laptop bag it gets very hot and drains the battery. Since this has happened closer to 10 times already I'm worried if the battery life is already damaged due to heating. Normally when I close the lid the laptop goes onto sleep mode.  I have already taken many measures to try and stop it from waking up from this article (http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/stop-windows-computer-randomly-waking/). I have set the power setting so that it should always go on sleep mode when the lid is closed. I don't understand how it goes on even when the lid is closed.  What could be the problem? Thanks in advance!

Hi, Sometimes when I close the lid off my Yoga 260 Windows 10 are not going to sleep. The behaviour is really weird because the red light on the lid is blinking like when it's in sleep mode, but I can hear the rotating fan. When I open the lid it's even weirder. Windows are not locked and I am not prompt for a password. The whole system is very laggy. The mouse is moving in jumps and there is not any response to keyboard or screen touch. After few seconds/minutes the system is suddenly OK like nothing happend. This is not happening all the time and I was not able to see any pattern when this happens. What should I do to get rid of this? Thx for help.

It sounds like a device is having a problem entering the low-power state.  Look in the event log

Hi!I have a bizzare issue with my Gen 1 X1 Yoga. The machine will not sleep when the lid is closed. I know this is not a software issue as holding a magnet above the sensor (in between the caps lock and shift key on the left keyboard bezel) sleeps the machine. Does anyone know where / what the magnet is thats meant to interact with this sensor? I assume it is meant to be positioned somewhere in the Screen bezel? if so does anyone know if this is something that could potentially be checked / serviced by a user or will i be bringing my machine to a repair centre.Cheers

Hello! I have a Windows 7 Home Edition computer that randomly wakes up from sleep mode without any user intervention. It occurs about 5 minutes from when I first put the computer to sleep, and it goes back to sleep after a few minutes. I'm worried I might have a malware infection that is causing this issue. What is causing this, and how can I fix it?

I cracked my screen and replaced with a new one.   Now when I close the lid, it won't go to sleep; rather it goes to tablet mode.   I have to press the power button to make it go to sleep.   I put back the original screen and it goes to sleep as it should.   I've tried two different brand new screens and it will never go to sleep when closed.    Lenovo doesn't sell replacement screens so I'm forced to go to ebay or Amazon.   I have checked setting to make sure it goes to sleep when the lid closes.   The magnets are in the replacements.  Hmm, has anyone ever experienced this?  Any recommendations what to do?   Thank you for your input.

Hi all I am really hoping someone can help me. I am on my third Lenovo Yoga 530 in the last month. When I close the lid and then reopen it, say half an hour later, the laptop does not resume where I left off, but instead boots up as if I had turned it off. I have lost so much work due to this over the last month. The shop told me this was "just an issue with Windows 10 and it was hit or miss as to if I would get a replacement with the problem or not". Having tried 3 different new laptops, I don't know what to do and they won't replace it again. Lenovo tell me they have never heard of this (Really?!) If anyone can help, I would be so grateful.  Many thanksEm

But when I close it there is a orange light and a couple hours later it's fully charged . I assumed I had a bad battery but I ran a battery test and it said my battery was fine . Howdy folks, I did some quick searching and could not find an answers to my problem and thus am posting here. I have a X1 Carbon 3rd Gen (Type 20BS) with Windows 10 and over the past 2-3 months have noticed the following problem: Problem: After placing the computer into sleep mode via the start button and closing the lid the computer will randomly start back up. I will often open my pc after noticing how overheated it is and find that it came back on and for some reason the touchscreen has been typing and opening applications. Obviously this is very annoying and results in my computer draining its batter and random applications being opened. Any ideas on what may be causing this and how I can fix it?  Happy to provide driver details and any other diagnostics if you think it would help.  Thanks,Andy
