Good afternoon all,

Preferred Solution: Copy Past ctrl c and ctrl v not working no more

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Yoga 2-11 Yesterday the CTRL-C, CTRL-X, and ALT-CTRL-DEL functions stopped working; strangely CTRL-V works fine. It's very difficult to get the @  and ? symbols to appear, but capital letters using the same Shift key are fine. Also, when I would type, several of the same letter would appear, and when pressing the space bar several spaces would appear. I fixed this issue by adjusting my keyboard settings by setting the repeat rating to the slowest setting. I've used device manager to uninstall the keyboard, also updated drivers, etc, but nothing seems to fix things. Using Windows Key R and OSK to display the onscreen keyboard, and using my physical keyboard for input confirms that the Shift and CTRL keys work. One thing that I noticed: when I touch the CTRL key a round onscreen circle appears and gets smaller and disappears; this is also true for CTRL-X and CTRL-C, but when using CTRL-V the circle does not appear.

Thread title pretty much sums it up: CTRL-A disabled, CTRL Key Works, A Key Works, Other CTRL-combos work. I use CTRL-V, CTRL-C, CTRL-Z, etc all the time.

CTRL-A has never worked for me, in any application. Instead of selecting all, CTRL-A pastes, the same as CTRL-V, only when you use CTRL-A, in addition to pasting, it also makes a system sound, kind of like a knock sound. Out of desperation to identify the sound I looked control panel sounds and listened to all of them, it's not there.

I've never really needed CTRL-A until now because I'm wanting to use a specific application that has no other way to select all except CTRL-A, so I'm now desperate...

Any help will be much appreciated.

Hello all, please can you help?

My home pc will boot up, get to the ctrl-alt-del screen and then comes back with an error that the virtual memory is too low to start windows.

I am running windows 2000. I cannot get to the task manager and have tried in safe mode too, it will not get me to the desk top.
The most I can do is get to dos thru the BIOS but then don't know what to do from there.

Is there anyone that can help me with the frustrating problem? How do I get this pc up and running again?

When I turn on PC it gets a far as the welcome screen. Ctrl+Alt+Del will not work even in safemode it still pops up. I have tried everything even disabling passwords so as it would boot straight into windows. I have removed the drive and scanned it with anti-virus and also CHKDSK. I have done everything possible and it still will not let me past welcome screen.

Anyone solved this problem or come accross it. I need to get to my accounts badly. I dont care about anything else. I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Welcome to TSF!!

I am confused about your post. First you are saying that you get to the welcome screen. Then you say that Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't work. I am wondering what happened to the steps in between? Like logging in, do you even get a pw screen? Are you able to get into your computer. Anyways why are you holding to Ctrl+Alt+Del at the login prompt anyways?

I know this seems like a lot but we just need some more info.

I have an HP envy laptop less than 6months old operating on windows 8 and my Ctrl key doesn't work as it should.I know the Ctrl key itself is not broken as it works when pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete or Ctrl + Left mouse key to open links in new tab and Ctrl + P to print. However the shortcuts as Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V, Ctrl + X don't work at all. This is the case in all programmes including word, Excel and Firefox. Ctrl + Insert and Shift + Insert do work for copy and paste function but frankly they are far less convenient. Any suggestions would be greatly apprectiated as it's very frustrating. Thank you

Hello jc84ox,

You?re not able to use your copy and paste function.

Go to device manager and uninstall the keyboard. Restart the computer.

Do a hard reset.
Once the computer is off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.

This should reset the hardware in the computer.

Turn the computer back on.

Open up command prompt and run the following command SFC /scannow.

This will scan the system files and correct any errors that it can.

Here is a link to command prompt.

When you go to open command prompt, right click and run as administrator.

If the function was working in the past you might try a system restore.

This will take the system back to when everything was working correctly without affecting your personal files.

Windows 8 has a new feature which will uninstall and reinstall windows without affecting your files.

Here is a link to both options if you would like to give either of them a try.

Clicking the White Kudos star on the left is a way to say Thanks!

Let me know how everything goes.

Have a good day.

Recently i've encountered this problem with CTRL C and V unable to copy or paste anything anywhere. Able to do so with mouse where right click copy paste works for that. CTRL F works which means ctrl button is functional. i've tried restoring to an earlier restore point, ran SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker but no errors. I still can't solve this problem.. I've clicked on all the relevant search results from google but none works for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. I encountered a weird problem.

I recently bough Acer Aspire 5734Z with Windows 7 Home Edition installed. When I type CTRL + C or CTRL + V my touchpad stops working for a few seconds. Then it get back to normal. And Except this the functions of ctrl + c and ctrl + v works.

This happens all the time, no matter how much I copy, I can copy nothing doing just the combination and my touch pad freezes.

When playing games as GTA Vice City I have problems using WASD movement at the same time as I adjust the screen(camera) with touch pad. Suddenly lot of combinations stop working, and I have to either stop walking around (WASD combinations) and use touchpad to adjust screen, then stop using touchpad and go back to using WASD.

I hope you understand. I am not very good at explaining things. And I really hope to find a solution to this.

When I did first-run of the laptop, the touchpad didnt have scrolling function working. So I went to acer.com, found my computer model, selected Windows 7 Home Edition and installed the newest touchpad driver 64bit. And it worked. Scrolling working. But freezing problems still occurs. Hi all!
I need help to use macros properly. It is my first attempt at doing this, and I don't understand what I am doing wrong.

I have found this thread which resembles my problem, but I still do not understand what to do

Basically, I have 2 Excel spreadsheets open.
One is List A, the other is List B (Master List).

I have worker codes in List A, and have to find them in the B list to assign them a code (1) in column M.

What I did was go in my first spreadsheet, and selected the first worker code. Then, I started recording my Macro from there.
Ctrl+C worker code
Ctrl+Tab to second spreadsheet
Ctrl+F to open find box
Ctrl+V to paste the worker code copied from before
Close the search box
Cursor now over Worker code, Move over to column M by pressing the RIGHT arrow 12 times (from A to M)
Type "1" and then Enter
Ctrl+Tab to come back to first spreadsheet
Down Arrow to move on to next worker code

However, the Macro looks like this :
Cells.Find(What:="A4WL7CPA3BRX5", After:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlFormulas, _
LookAt:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, _
MatchCase:=False, SearchFormat:=False).Activate
Application.CutCopyMode = False
ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "1"

A:Solved: Macro in Excel help! Using CTRL+V inside a CTRL+F

Macro recorder only record specific actions, not generic actions.
So you can't use it to repeat the steps for other cells.
You have to code it specifically in VBA.

As for your case you can have a lookup formula in column M of the Master list to do the check.

eg in cell M12 of List B, type
[List A.xlsm]Sheet1'!A:A,A12)

this goes to your List A first column to count the number of instances the value in cell A12 occurs.
Assuming there is no duplicate, the result is either 1 if found or 0 if not found.

If there are more than one instances in List A, the formula can be adapted to
[List A.xlsm]Sheet1'!A:A,A12)>0)*1

*1 will ensure that the result which is True or False becomes 1 or 0.

Hi... I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 on my Dell Inspiron 1720 with a tricked out Firefox 3 with a bunch of extensions, and all of a sudden today I started notice that Ctrl + S and Ctrl + F, 2 keyboard shortcuts that I use ALL THE TIME, are no longer working in ANY APPLICATION. The F and Control keys are working fine separately and other common shortcuts such as Ctrl + C, V, A, O, and P are working just fine.

I've tried it in Firefox, Internet Explorer, Notepad, Paint and Dreamweaver and Ctrl + S and Ctrl + F don't work in either one of those applications. The weird thing is without doing much of anything, it was working at some point today after I had noticed it WASN'T working, but now I rebooted for another reason and those 2 shortcuts are not working again.

By the way, I went into Vista's Ease of Access center (previously called Accessibility I believe), and everything is turned off.

And I also tried the control key to the right of my keyboard. None of it works.

Very annoying... Anyone got any ideas or know of any app that will help me find out what the problem is?

Thank you very much in advance, any help's appreciated

The XPS 15-9530 keyboard requires that you hold the Function key to do home/end (Function+Left is Home and Function+Right is End).  That works fine, but I have found that if Ctrl+Home and Ctrl+End are a bit finicky.  Specifically, the key order I have to press to do a Ctrl+Home is Ctrl then Function then Left.  If I do Function then Ctrl then Left, it only sends a Home and not a Ctrl+Home.  Is there any way to work around this?  It's a bit annoying to have my Ctrl+Home and Ctrl+End fail so often while I'm retraining myself.

My remote desktop session does not appear to be sending the ctrl+alt+left (CAL) or ctrl+alt+right (CAR) combinations to the target machine.

Yesterday everything worked fine. I installed Windows Vista Ultimate 64 and could successfully RD to my laptop machine, which is running XP Pro SP2. CAL and CAR worked.

Today I installed SP1 on the Vista machine. Now my RD won't sent CAL or CAR.

I downloaded a simple keyboard tester application and installed it on both machines. Locally on the Vista machine, CAL and CAR are detected. Same thing locally on the XP machine. When I RD from Vista to XP and try the keyboard test the program shoes that it is receiving the CTRL+ALT combination but doesn't register when I hit the left or right arrow key at the same time. Interestingly, the up and down arrows *do* register.

I tried the RD connection from XP to Vista. Everything works normally. I tried an RD connection from another XP SP2 machine to my laptop. It works.

Any ideas? Is there some sort of key binding in Vista that takes the CAL and CAR combinations before RD can get them? Is RD in Vista 64 filtering them out for some reason?

A:Keyboard shortkeys (Ctrl+C - copy, etc...) are all messed up!

Unfortunately the most likely reason for this problem is simply that your physical CTRL key on the keyboard has broken.

If that is the case, you basically have only 2 options.
You can ignore it, and grow accustomed to using the Right CTRL key.
Or you can replace the keyboard. Laptop keyboards can be bought from various places including Amazon and ebay, but it is clearly very important to get one that fits your model. Once you have a replacement, guides are available online explaining how to remove the current board and insert the new one.

Hey there,

db called APM.
Table: tbl_MAIN.
tbl_MAIN Columns: [PK IDautonumber] [member number] [last name] [first name] [status] [box number].
Form: Manifest Creator (linked to tbl_MAIN)
Table: tbl_report

All of the rest of the items in the db are consequence of trial and error, are irrelevant and will be removed.

I want to use the member number field to manually key in the [member number]. While keyed entry is occuring the form updates the rest of the fields with that members info.

I have gotten this far. Need help with the following.

I want to have a control button on the form that will copy ONLY the currently viewed record to a new table and continue adding on that table with the individual records every time the button is pushed.

(I can handle the creation and assignment of the control button but need the logic behind it)

Later, when the user has completed the task, the new table will be used to generate a report that will list all of the entries made and will in the end be printed. I will also make it so that the new table is archived and an empty table is left in its place, ready for the next batch.

I need to create this app as a tool to create manifests and avoid manually keying as much information as possible.

I understand that an append query is probably the way to go but when I use the one I created it rounds up ALL of the records... Read more

How to enable Beep on Ctrl-C (copy) command to indicate a success of COPY operation.

My newly assembled system is working fine with a few exceptions:

it didn't make a beep on the Ctrl-C (copy) operation, I'm making on my keyboard. A:How to enable Beep on Ctrl-C (copy) command

When reading your question it's easy to think, "keyboard" but I think we need to think "Clipboard". That's the only place that your success takes place so I think you have to look at getting an audio notification of something pasted to the clipboard. If it's pasted successfully you hear a ding, beep or fire alarm.

The curious thing to me is why? I can't recall ever having a failure with keystroke copy and paste. It would be interesting to find a reg hack that would trigger the sound.

My task manager won't come up with ctrl+alt+delete, ctrl+shift+esc, start -> run-> taskmgr, or from right click on the task bar? We tried all kinds of neat little programs to see what was up but to no avail, however we didn't try the HijackThis route so I am hopeful. The previous post can be found at the following link provided (if you're curious as to what solutions have already been explored), http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/top...ml#entry1491790. The DDS and RootRepeal text files are attached as well, thank you so very much for any assistance you can provide. This site is wonderful and your team is the tops! I'm so bummed not having my task manager.

I cannot use the CTRL and W keys on my keyboard. I have gone through all of the regular uninstall the keyboard and all associated drivers with the computer and none of it has worked. I am using the Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 5000. Any ideas what could be going wrong? It happened earlier today out of no where. The batteries have also been changed with new ones and that did not fix it. I have also done a Windows Restore to a previous time when it did work and that did not help. I have no other keyboards to test with at this time either. Does anyone have any ideas? Both keys work on their own but not together.

Edit: I cannot use the W key with any other keys.

To close a window try Alt+F4. What other hotkey functions are you trying to do with the W key?

Back when I got this computer with Windows XP in December 2001, every time I would press CTRL+ALT+DEL, the window would pop up with the computer usage and programs open.

Now, whenever I try to do it, nothing happens. It's been like this for about half a year and I've just been lazy to get it fixed.

But now, I need it. Can anyone help me?

Hello Everyone. I have an ideapad y500 for 3 years now and suddently the control key (left side) is just being ignored. The right ctrl key works as expected. Googleing around, I discovered that many lenovo models have this kind of issue. It's not an OS problem as I logged in a linux enviroment and it also not worked. I have tryied many supposed solutions found on web like a fresh reboot, pressing fn keys, etc ... etc .. etc ... except pluging a external keyboard. (what I am going to try really soon, hopefully) Want to know if any of you have this issue and how have you solved it. Best Regards,

I have an system i use for games. It is a P4 1.6 Ghz, running XP Pro.

The problem is when i press ctrl-alt-del to bring up the task manager. Instead of the task manager it brings up a dialog box that tells me the users who are setup in this installation. It tells me whether or not the user is active, and then gives me the option to connect or disconnect the user from two buttons on the bottom.

How do i change XP pro's setting so I can access my task manager instead of this user status dialog thing when i press ctrl-alt-del??

Hello gurjeetsingh

Have a look for Task Manager just to be sure it is not missing
Start / Search "all files & folders" for "taskmgr.exe". This file should be located on your C drive in the Windows\System32 folder.

If it is there, try this fix
Lift Restrictions - TM, Regedit and CMD (Line 275)

Let us know what happens as this might be a malware problem. We will tell you how to post for help in the Virus Help Forum.

hi all...i can't seem to access the "ctrl and windows" buttons through my keyboard or the on-screen keyboard...they simply don't work...i don't think there's a problem with my keyboard cuz the buttons should've worked otherwise! my computer does not have a virus either as i recently formatted it recently...

also, i recently bought this keyboard and this problem is driving me nuts cuz i highly rely on the "ctrl" key...either side isn't working!

need help!!!!

A:Alt ctrl del not working

Whoops sorry, I posted a link thinking Ctrl + Alt + Del wasn't working for you =p

Keyboards can break quite easy if a liquid or crumbs and whatnot have build up inside. Cheaper keyboards also have a tendency to break down rapidly as well. If you could ask your neighbor to borrow their keyboard for a few seconds I would try that first. See if you can try a PS2 and a USB keyboard to see if maybe its a problem with your mobo or a driver.
