I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

There's a good chance that the Windows 7 driver may work with Windows 8, but the only way to find out it to try it & see. If there are any issues, you should get an error message informing you that the driver isn't compatible, or it may appear to install but just not work! If that is the case, then try IOBits Driver Booster Free - it might be able to find a compatible driver. If it doesn't, then you may have to forgo the card reader....!

just wondering... got one today for free. someone gave it to me.

they thought it was broke and went out and bought something new. lol.. I have a feeling it works fine, just overloaded with junk... tons of programs, files, and spyware.

think I'm going to just reformat the drive from the recovery partition and start fresh... and since I dont' need a laptop, this may hit ebay. need some money for car repairs...

A:acer extensa 5620. how old is this laptop?

I don't know from what year that model is based, but as it says here, http://panam.acer.com/acerpanam/notebook/0000/Acer/Extensa5620/Extensa5620sp2.shtml, they first appeared with Windows XP. And as it says here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acer_Extensa, The 5620 is the fifth latest model.
So my guess would be anywhere between 2005 and 2008.

It's not the most accurate answer, but I hope that it helps!

I hope someone can lead me in the right direction. I have a new Acer laptop with vista pre-installed. It had 3 pre installed partitions;-

1. Hidden EISA Configuration
2. C - with vista installed - 111gb NTFS
3. D - data - empty - 111gb NTFS

I have shrunk C to a smaller size 77gb and now I have an unallocated section of 34gb. The unallocated section is between C & D.

What I would like to do is merge the unallocated area with partition D and install XP pro onto it.

My idea behind all this is to put C (with vista ) aside and use XP Pro, until I have to use Vista. I would like to make C. smaller but that was the smallest size DiskManagement would allow.

Now back to my original question how do I merge unallocated and partition D.

Thanking you in advance

I downloaded the drivers for windows 7 x64bit for the SD card reader in my system.
I have installed Windows 8.1 Pro x64.
I had the same issue with Windows 8 and now that I have settled on 8.1 need to fix my card reader.
Funny thing is that the drivers from Microsoft load (2006) and all devices look fine in Device Manager.

Even after installing the link from Acer and even searching around and getting other ones from Lenovo, HP still no go.

any ideas???

forgot to mention that the system sees a problem...

Hello everybody,

I'm running Windows 7 on Acer Extensa 7620 and I get frequent BSODs (like every hour or less) with (usually) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error messages, although the last message was DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and the one before that was UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP.

BlueScreenView marks the drivers that caused BSOD and every time they're different, but halmacpi.dll appears in every log. Among others there are CmBatt.sys, i8042.sys, ntkrnlpa.exe, win32k.sys, SynTP.sys, tunnel.sys, etc.

Before the current Windows installation I had the x64 system installed, but the same thing happened over and over. I thought maybe x64 drivers caused the problem and installed the x86 version. BSODs happen all the time, regardles what I do, browse the internet, watch movies or even when the computer is idle.

I've ran a memtest and everything reported ok. Then I've ran chkdisk with bad sector recovery. It reported 20kb in bad sectors. Is it possible that all those drivers (which are by the way >20kb) happen to be placed on bad sectors and that's what's causing all the trouble? Seems like a long shot, but still...

I still hope to get some insight from you guys before I start installing the system again (knowing things won't be solved). Thanks in advance!

Hello all,

This is a pretty specific question, so I'll be grateful for any info I can get!

I have an Acer Extensa 5620 laptop, which came with an Intel Core 2 Duo Merom T5250 processor (1.5GHz).

I'm upgrading the CPU to a Core 2 Duo Penryn T8300 (2.4GHz).

Did a bit of research beforehand to determine that my mothorboard supports it, and it does, but only if I upgrade my BIOS (PhoenixBIOS) from version 1.16 to 1.23 or later.

So I downloaded the most recent version from Acer's website (Acer Europe - Service & Support, Drivers & Utilities, Downloads, Notebook, Extensa 5620), and got a .zip file containing the following files:

ACERACDC.EXE
CLB-135.bat
CLB-135.ROM
CLB-135.WPH
HFB135US.bld
phlash16.exe
Winflash32, which is a folder, containing:
ABVXD.VXD
CLB-135.EXE
flash.sys
HEADER
Wset.txt

It seems there are several options in this download for flashing ones BIOS. The simplest one, from a bit of googling seems to be to run CLB-135.EXE as administrator from within windows. Before I do this though, I want to know if I've got everything right, since a failed flashing could brick my laptop.

One thing that sets off alarm bells is that doing it this way uses the winflash32 utility. Although my laptop came with 32 bit Vista, I'm currently using 64 bit Windows 7.

My question is: will this work? Or will I need to track down winflash64? Or, is this a terrible way to flash my BIOS and should I do something else complete... Read more

A:Flashing BIOS on Acer Extensa from windows 7 64 bit

You really should update the bios from a dos boot utility and the applicable software that can run in that. Put all the files not in the Winflash folder on a dos floppy disk. Then boot to it. Run the phlash16.exe in dos.

If you want to try in Windows, it should be fine. 32 bit software works well on 64 bit OS. Just close everything not needed for Windows to run first when going to do it. Use the task manager to forcibly close things if needed. Also, close antivirus and firewalls too.

I'm resurrecting this thread from the dead, I hope there's still someone around who can help me.

I'm upgrading my girlfriend's Extensa 5620Z Acer to Windows 7 Professional 32 bit from Vista. I did the same with my own Vaio Z620D. The thing that has me worried is that when I upgraded the Vaio, there was a multitude of drivers I had to download and install in a specific order to make sure the computer worked as it should.

I've been sniffing around, looking for a similar list of drivers for the Extensa, but have come up blank. Will the Extensa work fine (WLAN, LAN, Chipset, VGA, etc.) if I just install Windows 7?

Thanks for the help,
Bear

Hello Beartholomew, welcome to Seven Forums!

It's a safe bet that Windows 7 will install the needed drivers during/after the install completes and if need be you can install the Vista drivers in "Compatibility" mode and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

Hello my saviors!

Every time in the last few years that I've had a tech problem, there's been nothing you guys couldn't resolve, so here goes:

I have an Acer desktop computer. The model is 5620-EE5512A. It was purchased a few years ago. I also use a backup UPS and it is running perfectly.

Bottom line is that I tried to start the computer this morning and nothing happened... not even a light came on. Everything else works, though. I even tried unplugging the power supply from the UPS and directly into the wall and still nothing. Finally, a little flicker of life as if it were trying... and then dead again.

I've been all over the internet (including the Acer site) and I've read that one should remove the battery, unplug the power cord, press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds, plug in the power cord, reinsert the battery, and try again. I think they said this had something to do with discharging excess electricity.

Well, not being at all technical, I'm staring at the inside of my computer and see what looks like a watch battery on the motherboard but am not sure that is the battery that is supposed to be removed.

Short of calling in a technician or bringing the system unit to a repair shop, would you have any suggestions?

As always, thanks for being here!

Marjatta

Hi there.

Have you tried the battery discharging trick as of yet?

That battery that you see if the "CMOS battery" and it is responsible for storing the motherboard's ROM settings. Remove it for about 20 minutes (or longer) and re-insert it into the motherboard. See if that helps at all.

Hello everyone....

I have previously made him recovery cd/dvd but he lost them.

I wish to restore this laptop to factory. What I have done so far is to make the PQSERVICE partition visible as I needed to recover the password.

When I use erecovery through windows vista I get the option to restore to factory, enter password and answer the appropriate questions (like this will erase all data on drive c then the computer reboots and I have two boot options, erecovery or windows vista (c: drive). So I choose erecovery, acer does its thing and there is NO restore to factory option and the following error message failed to get drive 0 partition 3 drive letter (pqservice is now drive f.
I do get options to repair windows vista, one for erecovery and one for drive c:

When trying to remake recovery cd, the dialog box shows that I want to burn to drive E (the dvd drive) yet an error pops up saying not enough space on drive d.

How can I get the laptop to restore to factory.

Thank you so much

I have an Acer Extensa 5420 laptop running windows Vista home premium.
I am having a recent issue with it.
i was trying to use Windows DVD Maker to burn a dvd and after about 5 minutes of it encoding, the whole computer shut down no errors or shut down screen. it just shut down.
i have also experienced this problem with Reel Deal Slots: Ghost Town.
i was in the middle of playing and again it just shut down with no warning or errors.
it has not done this with any other programs i have.
is there a fix for this?

A:acer extensa laptop help

well i think i figured it out. i urned the computer over and took the bottom off and took the fan out and cleaned it. and the heatsink had about a quarter inch of dust buildup. so now everything runs fine.
i guess that windows dvd maker must be a big program that makes the computer get too hot. as for the reel deal game i guess thats the same. must be too much graphics and video and it gets hot as well.
anyway i can now burn DVD's again without a shutdown.

More likely that all the drivers you'll need are already built into Windows 7. Perform a clean install of Windows 7 and see for yourself. Do not upgrade from Vista -- that is the source of most issues on this board. Thanks!

Hi all, just wanted to ask you all for any suggestions on how to fix this problem.

Shut down my laptop as normal lastnight, went to start it this morning and nothing.. the battery light says its fully charged but if i take the battery out and try using it with just the power adapter to start no lights at all come on and of course it doesn't start. I have checked the power adapter with multimeter and its putting out correct voltage.

I am out of warranty by 2 months

Also how do i find the switch that indicates whether the lid is open or not?
and where is the reset button located?

Thanks in advance for any helpful information

If you're getting the right readings for the power adapter then it might be a motherboard that's gone south. Try pushing the power button for 20 seconds and release. Then after a few more seconds push it again and see if it comes on..

When Power button is pressed, PC tries to start, power & hard drive lights lite, fan starts, screen remains black, then after a few seconds the PC shuts down, then it repeats this same startup attempt again once more, then shuts off and stays off. I thought it was a power adapter or battery problem, so I have replaced both, but the exact same problem continues. This is a 6 year old PC that was working great before it was stored for approx 4 months in it's case. Have tried the power Reset process with no change. Removed rear panel and blew some dust out of fan, no change. When power adapter is plugged in, the battery charging light is lit green. Any ideas out there?

You could try replacing the button cell battery on the motherboard, or maybe even just leave it plugged in with power overnight and see if that works.

My Acer Extensa 5635G won't boot up.

When I press the on button I can hear the hard drive spin on and the fan turn on, the light to indicate that the laptop is on comes on and so does the bluetooth indicator light. However the screen doesn't turn on and after approx 5 seconds everything turns off, then after another couple of seconds the laptop turns back on by itself with all the same stuff happening (HDD spinning, fan, power light, on light and bluetooth light) screen stays black and it just sits like that indefinitely. No matter how long I leave it on for when I press the power button again it instantly switches off.

I've taken out and checked the hdd on another pc and it works fine, I've taken out and tried the RAM in the different slots and I've tried plugging it in to a different monitor via the VGA port. Same thing happens no matter what I try, even with no HDD or RAM in it.

Any ideas? Thanks

Good day all,
I just bought an acer extensa 5220 notebook (XP Pro). I have not used it yet for work. It had Norton Internet security (trial version) installed. I prefer to use McAfee AV. I installed McAfee and restarted my notebook. However, i did not uninstall Norton. When notebook started up again it restarted after startup, it kept doing this over again, first showing blue screen before restarting (but too fast so i couldn't read the error message). So, i booted into safe mode and restored back to the time before McAfee was installed. It is stable for now.
My questions are:
Do you think my problem was because of not uninstalling Norton first?
Was i correct in using system restore (what are the repercussions if not)?
Does my notebook model support McAfee AV or was i wrong to try to install it and should stick with Norton?

I am grateful for any help. Thank you

Not sure if this is a Vista problem, an Acrobat 6 problem, or an Acer problem. I have an eMachine desktop with Vista Home Premium, and an Acer Extensa laptop, also with Vista Home Premium. I've configured each machine the same way, with primarily the same software.

Both are loaded with Acrobat 6. Both machines are unable to run the Distiller to print to a PDF file, which is an incompatibility with Vista that I can live with. My problem is that on the eMachine, I can open PDF files from IE 7, but cannot on the laptop. On the laptop I consistently get the message "Cannot locate Adobe", even though it's loaded on the laptop.

I checked that the Adobe PDF ActiveX control is properly enabled on both machines. I also made sure the Acrobat preferences are configured the same way on both machines. However, when I change the Internet setting in Acrobat to open PDF files either in the web browser or from Adobe, on the laptop I get a message about not being able to locate a file related to Netscape, even though Netscape isn't loaded on the desktop or the laptop. This does not happen on the desktop. Some type of installation begins to take place, but I cannot figure out what it's trying to do or if it's successful.

The only other thing that is different between the two configurations is the work around I'm using to get around the Distiller incompatibility. On the desktop, I have a Canon multifunction printer that has a PDF option, so in addition to printing directly to the... Read more

If you have to use Acrobat you should at least be using the latest which is up to version 9,

Adobe - Adobe Reader Download - All versions

if for no other reason than this,

Attackers gun for Adobe flaw

Another option is to use Foxit instead,

Foxit Software

free like Reader, but far far lighter on the system (probably find more feature rich than Acrobat as well).

Hello,

Yesterday I got a virus on an Acer Extensa 5235 laptop. Said virus was turning on a fake antivirus whenever I opened a file, which wanted me to pay a price for a "cleanup". I wasn't able to turn anything on. Luckily, I managed to turn it off through msconfig and delete the virus files.

Right now, however, the laptop won't even turn on. The "Acer" screen goes on, the _ flickers a few times in the upper left corner, and the laptop resets. I won't even get to a safe mode. The notebook had minimal differences from the factory preset, had Win 7 and worked until yesterday. I have a OEM Win XP home CD at my disposal at the moment.

I have already tried:

1) Booting through BartPe and an .iso image of Windows XP on an USB flashdisk. To no avail; I get to the BartPe layout, but the BartPe file explorer shows no disks available.

2) Boot through the disk itself. At first, it didn't load, with the error "STOP: 0X0000007B (0xf78d2524, 0Xc0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)", which I was able to circumvent by transferring from a SCSI mode to IDE mode in BIOS. When I installed Win XP, however, I had an error concerning a few uncopiable files, described for example here: - http://forums.penny-arcade.com/discussion/20110/cant-install-xp-from-any-disk-to-any-disk. I skipped everything and the PC now resides in a "minimal" Win Xp preset. With the former Win 7 configuration, of course, absent.

I think I'd be able to fix thi... Read more

I had to look up BartPE to see what it was but I think it's unlikely to save the day in your situation.

Assuming that your priority is to get Windows 7 back I'd first check that you have the Microsoft authorisation code for your copy. If it was pre-installed on the laptop there will be a hidden restore partition and you could try holding down the Alt key while tapping F10 to access it. Failing that option I'd download a Windows 7 SP1 ISO, burn it to disc, reinstall the OS and hope that there are no serious driver problems. Both options mean that everything you have installed and saved will be lost unless you have already made backups.

Hi
I am trying to fix my friends acer it had vista on it. At first it would not start properly after a few attempts it started but it kept beeping and restarting then i ran anti virus on it and it became more stable. It got worse after that though i have ended up wiping it and using killdisc to erase everything.
I have then tried to re install vista but even in bios the keyboard has a life of its own. It keeps flicking across the bios options but itself. I forgot to mention earlier that this was the case as well before i wiped it even with another keyboard attached. I taught it might be the cmos battery going but that's in an awkward place ill have to dismantle the computer. So i want to leave that option till last. I think it might be the motherboard also maybe its damaged. The computer looks fine but my friend said it had been in the shed for a while as it wasn't been used. I dont know what kind of shed how insulated it was so im thinking maybe the computer might have got damp. I see no visible signs of dampness though.
Has any one had a similar experience before ? Any help would be greatly appreciated of coarse.

Kind Regards
John

I had this behavior in a Toshiba laptop. Replacing the keyboard (about $20 US) fixed the problem for me.

Can you disable the keyboard in the BIOS, then use an external, USB keyboard?

Hello & welcome to the BC There is a way to make your own repair discs. if you have a capable pc & internet connection. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vis...-dont-have-one/Here is a good tutorial on how to use them. (once you make them) http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/repair-windows-with-windows-startup-repair/There is also a way to return to factory settings. but you will lose all data & installed programs so backup any files you want to keep. http://www.techsupportforum.com/hardware-s...structions.htmlgood luck!!

Hello!
it just started two days ago. my system got hanged. keyboard and mouse stopped responding, even power button did not have any effect. finally i removed the battery to switch the system off. when i restarted after inserting the battery, it again stopped at the same place (i.e. just showing the wallpaper and hanged). i restored the system to factory defaults but all in vain. The system works perfectly fine after removing the battery. After few attempts i have reached to this conclusion that if i start the system with battery not fully charged (i.e. indicator orange)the system boots up and works normal. if i restart with battery indicator green the system hangs. Moreover with fully charged battery, the battery icon in system tray shows 4% charged, while the Acer Epower Management shows that i have 2 hours and 30 min in word processing mode. Battery is getting charged and the system works for around two hours in word processing scheme but the indicator does not go beyond 4%. i am in deep agony. please help.
Waiting for your kind reply.
Best Regards.

My laptop has turned itself off three days this week. After rebooting I am unable to access local or internet connections via my local wireless service with Centurylink. Their tech assures me that it's not the modem and tells me it has to be my computer. The W-Lan Driver and Ethernet Drivers are being deleted. I have had to restore my entire system from the day before each time to correct this probllem. Hoping someone has a suggestion. Thanks

I have an Acer Extensa 4620, with a built in wireless card. My list of wireless networks show my Netgear router, and shows I have full signal to the router. However, when I try to connect to the router, the progress bar says connecting for 15-20 seconds, and stops, not connecting. No errors at all either. I brought it in for repair, and the laptop connected to their network at the shop without an issue.

I brought it back home, and decided to do a format/reinstall as the computer still didn't connect at home.
After the format, the connection to the Netgear router was there, set to automatic, but still won't connect.
My router has 0 security setup and fully open. Therefor that isn't an issue. Plus I have other computer connected to the router already.

I'm at a loss!

A:Acer Extensa 4620 WLAN Card

Try Removing the Wireless Profiles and reconnecting.

If that doesn't work, try this:

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2/SP3

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following commands, each followed by the Enter key:

Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands.

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.
