I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi and thanks in advance for any assistance reply,I'm running Windows 7 Home basic SP 1 64bit os. Just a while ago I open www.mahagenco.in and a zip file containing total_run_mahagenco.exe 612kb and click_me_installer_mahagenco.exe 616kb automatically downloaded When I run it, nothing happened and it suddenly disappeared from my desktop. After assuming it was a virus, I run Windows Security Essentials and began a quick scan. Just in the middle of the scan, Windows security essentials shuted down, and the flag of messages in my task bar appeared, saying that Windows Security Center was turned off. I tried to turn it on, but a message saying "The Windows Security Center service can't be started" appeared. Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your malware problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.

So I've got a bit of a problem I believe may have something to do with a nasty malware/spyware program or virus. My windows security center won't start. When I open the security center it's off, and when I try to turn it on I get the message "the security center service can't be started". I know there have been other threads on this, and I've taken the steps they recommend to fix it, involving running "services" in the start>search/run, and setting security center to automatic. Unfortunately my problems extend beyond that. Once I set it to automatic, and "start" it, I can go to the security center and see that everything is running except the malware/spyware protection (ie. windows defender or my McAfee). McAfee says it's running, but the security center doesn't seem to notice, and Windows Defender is inoperable. If I try to "turn on" either one, the security center is disabled. If I go back into services and check I see that it has once again been set to "disabled". If I repeat the process and open the security center and do nothing, after a few moments it's disabled again. Something is actively shutting down my security center over and over again. I cannot get Windows Defender to run, if I try, nothing happens or if I do it quickly after setting the SC to automatic I see a box pop up for a split second before disappearing, and nothing happens until the SC is inevitably disabled again.

This started when I attempted to go ... Read more

Hi!

I have Windows 7 x64 Ultimate with Avast Antivirus software
I'm having an issue with Security Center service - it's disabled. When I click enable it says "The windows security center service cannot be started". I tried starting the service in "services.msc" where "startup type" was "disabled" i change it to "automatic" and then I'm able to start the service but after couple of seconds security center turns off again (the service disables).
Also when trying to start the service I sometimes get "error 1058 - can't start security center.
This all started couple of days ago, before that it was all working normally.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I recently downloaded a program called ccProxy. My add-on WOT warned me that this was a bad site, but I downloaded it anyway. I then got a Google redirecting virus and a virus that kept on disabling my Microsoft Security Center and would close Microsoft security essentials whenever I tried to open it. I went on safe mode and I ran a bunch of scanners such as MalwareBytes, Super Anti-Spyware, Windows Security Essentials (I can open it on safe mode), AVG 2011 and Panda Active Scan 2011. After I destroyed a bunch of viruses nothing happened. How do I fix this? If you need my Hijackthis log I can give it to you.

Hi,

The Security Center service cannot be started due to virus destruction.

Have you tried the repair for Windows? If not, you can go to following SkyDrive to load the registry and import it to check the result.

http://cid-9fb18a384ebfc662.office.live.com/self.aspx/.Documents/wscsvc%5E564%5E6.zip

Before importing it, please back up the following registry key first. Just find the key and right click it, choose export and save to desktop.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\wscsvc]

After importing the correct registry, please go to services Windows to check if Security Center starts properly.

I can reset the firewall through cmd.exe but when I restart my computer everything is lost and I have to start over again. Running NIS 2011 (v18.1.0.37) and Win7 Pro 32. All has been running well until today when windows security center suddenly reports that it is turned off. Starting windows security center via the services window causes windows defender & NIS to be turned off, both NIS & windows firewalls to be turned off & NIS virus protection to be turned off.

Any idea why windows security center is either being switched off or has suddenly started reporting its status and whether keeping it switched off is beneficial given that NIS is providing a firewall, virus protection etc.

Many thanks

Go into service.msc and disable both Windows Firewall and Windows Defender. Make sure you stop the service first.

Reboot and see if Security Center is still reporting a problem

Hi,

I have a Windows 7 machine that is having an issue with Security Center. It had a small amount of PUP and Trojan Variants, but I took care of them.

However, the Trojans must have ran as Security Center has stopped working out of nowhere.

I get error 1068 when trying to boot WSCVM through the Services tab. Remote Procedure Call (RPC) is running and booted, whereas Windows Management Instrumentation, will not boot or run.

Any ideas on what to do here? Would this REGFix file do the trick?

Windows Security Center Service has been removed - Microsoft Community Is that safe to use?

A:[SOLVED] Windows Security Center Can't Start - Error 1068

Hi, net helpmsg 1068 at the prompt returns:-

The dependency service or group failed to start.

The fix in your post is to replace the registry service entry for Wscsvc (security centre) it does not appear that this is needed. We need to look at the dependencies.

I note you say WMI will not start.

We need to see more of your services open a cmd as admin and run the following in red:-

echo > 0 & sc qc Winmgmt >> 0 & sc queryex Winmgmt>> 0 & sc qc Dcomlaunch >> 0 & sc queryex DcomLaunch >> echo >> 0 & notepad 0
press enter

Next run:- Net start > 0 & notepad 0 press enter

Please post the notepad outcome's here.

Good morning.

Events:

I just started having some problems on my PC. I'm using Windows 10, x64, Professional edition. Non-secure boot.

I got a notification from Windows to the effect of "Warning you are not running any security software".

I immediately tried to open Windows Defender but what I got instead was all sliders disabled. On opening my Updates tab I saw the message "Some settings are managed by your organization".

On trying to open Windows Security Center I didn't get anything. Checking services showed me it had been set to disabled.

Steps taken so far:

I tried setting it back to Automatic delayed start and restarting the service but immediately it was disabled again.

At this point I was running a malwarebytes scan. Malwarebytes found a "Chromebrowser.exe" PUP which I removed.

On a rescan it has so far yet to detect anything.

Checking Group Policy shows all entries are set to default "Not Configured" except one for automatic removal which I disabled myself when I first installed Windows 10.

Changing group policy settings for Allow Telemetry under Data collection and Telemetry (under Computer Configuration, Admin templates, Windows components) to full, then disabling again resulted in the "Some settings are managed by organizatio" notice going away, the previously disabled "Get Started" button for Insider Program became enabled again.

I made a scan with avast, bitdefender on my pc to check for virus left and it found nothing.I also noticed that i couldn't launch nvidia control panel, the drivers aren't working anymore, or something like that. Hi,

I've been having a problem with google/pretty much any search engine redirecting the links I click on to other pages. It actually takes a few tries before the correct page opens. The windows security center service also gives me the message that it can't be started (it's set on disabled in the services), and every time I set it to automatic it changes itself back to disabled. Scans with Trend Micro and Malwarebytes do not show any viruses/spyware.

I'm kind of at my wits end, so any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Everytime I start up my desktop, a fake windows security center message comes up trying to get me to install a fake protection system software. When this windows security center message comes up, it also adds three shortcuts to my desktop to porn sites. This virus is hindering me from using various software such as Malwarebytes, Spybot, and it wont let me install Hijack this. Also, this virus is making Internet Explorer practically unusable (using Safari right now). Please help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

One of the sample messages from Security Center Alter asks if I want to block a suspicious software called Trojan.Win32.Agent.dcc. This "Alert" has popped up many time, but warning me about different trojans.
Also, in the lower-right tray, messages are continuously coming up saying stuff like keyloggers, exploits, and etc have infected your computer.

Hi all,

I've ready many posts about this problem but none of the solutions work for me so I'm making a thread to make sure I get the perfect solution.

What I'm trying to do is portforward WITHOUT using the router, however when I go to Start>Control panel>Windows Firewall it says "The Windows Firewall service is not running." I then go to Start and type this in "C:\Windows\System32\wscui.cpl" to open up windows security center, this is also off. I click "Turn on now" and a message pops up saying "The Security Center service can't be started.". I go to Start>Services as the other guides have told me to do and neither "Windows Firewall" or "Security center" are in the services list..

Please can somebody find me a solution it would be much appreciated!

OK....this one is a toughie and I'll probably buy dinner if you can solve this one.
I cannot start Windows XP Security Center. This message appears under "Security Essentials" in the Windows Security Center window:

"The Security Center is currently unavailable because the Security Center service has not started or was stopped. Please close this window, restart the computer (or start the "Security Center" service) and open the Security Center again.

Here are the steps I performed:

Start, Run, typed in "services.msc" (without parens)
In the "Services" window I scrolled to "Security Center"
The startup type is set to "automatic" so it should be turned on (other options are Manual or Disabled) however, when I double click on "Security Center" in the tree that is displayed, and click the "Start" button, the following message is displayed:

"Could not start the Security Center service on local computer. Error 123
The file name, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect"

The patch to executable window shows: \SystemRoot\C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs

I am getting a continual start-up problem.

Windows Security Center will not start, regardless of whether I'm in my regular account, or admin. I have tried fixing it based off some info I "researched" on-line, but it claims that my user account isn't the same as others using the same process....

All of the others I have looked at in Services all say "Network Service", just like I tried setting the WSC to.

Please point me in a direction to fix this "BLEEPING POS COMPUTER".

Greetings,

I ran spybot and ad adaware and found that my windows security center is disabled in the registry. I ran a full scan using NIS '07 and found no problems. When I click on windows security center in the control panel it says it is disabled but I have not found a way to start it up. Is this disabled because of NIS '07. Should I be concerned about this?

Being paranoid?

Thanks,
Marc

Hello, brand new here, I've glanced over the guidelines and rules, please forgive me if I missed something, I've been up all night working on this. I'm running win7 ultimate on a toshiba satellite L305-S5921. I downloaded an infected torrent I thought my anti-virus (Avira) caught and dealt with before it had a chance to do anything. (I didn't open or run the download) I then updated Avira and ran a full system scan. It didn't detect anything, just some files it said it couldn't access. My problem is now Action center is saying that Window's Security Center isn't turned on, and when I try to turn it on, I get an error msg saying it can't be started. I've tried enabling it in services.msc in normal and safe mode, and still can't get it to work. I also can't get windows defender to open. I tried to do a restore recovery from before I downloaded that torrent, but all my restore points but one from 2009 are gone, and I really don't want to go back that far unless absolutely necessary. Anyway, if anyone can suggest what I should do next, it would be greatly appreciated, I basically live on this thing; have it on most of the day, lol. Thanks ahead of time for any help I can get, I want to get this bug worked out before it gets any worse!

Start by downloading and installing, updating and running a full scan of MalwareBytes. When this completes, a log will pop up. Post its contents in a reply. Be sure to clean any infections you find.MalwareBytes Link: MalwareBytes Download Link

Note: OP has made mulitiple posts re same situation in various forums, all merged here, PM sent requesting no new topics be initiated ~ Hamluis.I am getting a continual start-up problem. Windows Security Center will not start, regardless of whether I'm in my regular account, or admin. I have tried fixing it based off some info I "researched" on-line, but it claims that my user account isn't the same as others using the same process....All of the others I have looked at in Services all say "Network Service", just like I tried setting the WSC to.Please point me in a direction to fix this "BLEEPING POS COMPUTER".I have the same problem. Moreover, NAV displays an error coded 5013.3, which may be related. On 12/31/2011 one of my children noted the Win 7 2012 Malware. There the Trojan ZewroAccess.B was identified and I have run all the NAV recommended actions but it keeps comping back. At this point I have run the NAV programs again but don't want to restart as the same problems will popup again. Do I restore to a previous restorepoint prior to 12/31?Thanks

Hello everyone. I just stumbled across this site when looking for help and it looks like there's such a wealth of information here. Great to see!

My problem. When I boot up my computer I always get a red pop up box in the bottom right hand corner that says "security center disabled" or something to effect. So I went into the Services area and located "Security Center". Under status it says "started" but under Startup Type it says "disabled". Under Log On As it says Local Service. I went into properties and adjusted the Startup Type to "Automatic", hit apply and went back to the Services box. There it is corrected with Started and Automatic but once I go back into properties, it says disabled under Startup Type again. I did this about four times and for some reason it is not saving my "Automatic" setting but rather forces the Disabled setting. I'm not understanding the problem and I don't know what to do about it. Can anyone please help me with this?

Hi, I have a laptop with Windows Vista, and I recently had to remove the FBI Moneypak Virus, so I don't know if this might have had anything to do with my not being able to get Security Center to start.

I've looked online for the solutions and tried a couple of things.

I've checked Security Center under Services and couldn't get it started. I get 1068 Error, I check under Properties for Dependencies and it's blank.

I ran a System File check and it was repaired successfully.

I don't know what else to check.

A flag is appearing in the bottom right corner on my laptop running windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit version.
On opening the action center by clicking on flag the message appears "Windows Security Center Service (Important) - The windows Security Center service is turned off" Next to this message is a button "Turn on now". When I click on the button gets an error message "windows security service can't be started". no details.
This is what I have done so far
1. checked my laptop for any virus, torjan, malware etc. using 3 different tools: McAfee, Windows malicious software removal tool, Malwarebytes
- No virus or suspecious programs
2. try to start the security services manually using services.
- Starts for a sec and goes down automatically giving the same message "Can't start"

Any help/tips

Just after you get "windows security service can't be started" go check your Event Log. There should be an entry. Get it and post here.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate. I have never had any issues with viruses or spyware on this machine. I have MSE installed and active. I keep getting a notification in the Action Center that the "Windows Security Center service is turned off". When I click the button to turn it on, nothing happens. I located the Security Center service and when I try to start it, it says "Windows could not start the Security Center service on Local Computer", and below that "Error5: Access Denied". The service is running under the 'Local Service' user, I tried changing it to Local System Account, but got a different error, so I assume Local Service is correct. What could be causing this? I am logged in as a domain admin, and I have full control.

Hi all,

I am running windows 7 HP - 64 bit.  I know I am infected ( or at least pretty darn sure of it).

1) I can't download anything.  Whenever I try a bar comes up at the bottom of the screen showing percentage of download.  When it hits 100% the writing turns red and the message reads "(whatever) contained a virus and was deleted."  I've tried changing the file name before downloading with the same results.

This is the worse thing.  I do not have a current antivirus installed and now cannot download one.  Man I'm stupid........

2) I have a red flag on the pc security issues located on the right side of the task bar.  It says I need to turn on the windows security center service.  Every time I try to turn it on I get the error message "The Windows Security Center service can't be started."  I've read that this can be fixed from the services section but when I go there the Security Center option is missing.

3) When I use google I get redirected to other websites (which I'm sure are leaving more viruses).

I hope all these problems are related.  If not I'd be more then happy to try and fix them one a time. (Operative word in this sentence is try).

Thanks for reading,
Rich

A:Windows Security Center Doesn't start

You may want to read The Mysterious "Error = 5" aka "Access Denied" for information about various reasons that error may occur.Try enabling the Windows 7 Built-in Administrator Account <- scroll down to Option 2If that does not resolve the issue, try using Windows 7 System Restore to return to a previous state?
