Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - Crashed and now won't boot past opening lenovo screen

Q: Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - Crashed and now won't boot past opening lenovo screen

So everything has been working fine on my laptop until about 10:30PM EST tonight. I bought it new in August 2011.
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
CPU: Intel Core i7-2630QM @ 2.00 GHz
HD: 750 GB
It's always been a fine machine with NO problems.
However, last night there were Windows 7 updates that were installed and then restarted my computer. I had not gotten a chance to check exactly what they were though. About 10:30 this evening, flash crashed in Mozilla Firefox which is not that uncommon, and from there Firefox closed, and so did my Microsoft Word and Excel apps that were open. From there, my computer began to shut down and restart. When it went to restart, all it could do was go to the opening Lenovo screen which gives you the F2 (setup option) and F12 (multiboot menu option) as it typically does. Besides a thin strip at the top that appeared after about 30 secs that only displays moving static that eventually will just stick, that is where the boot process ends. No Windows 7 screen, and certainly no opportunity to boot into safe mode to check for any problems. The screen freezes and goes nowhere.
So basically, all I'm getting in terms of boot options are lenovo features, not windows 7 features, meaning it won't boot into windows 7 or windows 7 safe mode no matter what I try. The biggest problem here is that I have no windows 7 disc to even try to boot from my dvd drive.
Anybody have any suggestions on what the problem might be? I prefer to fix the problem from home if possible.

Preferred Solution: Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - Crashed and now won't boot past opening lenovo screen

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Are you able to get into the advanced boot menu by tapping F8? It might not be listed on the startup screen but it should still be there.
If not you can burn a repair disc from any PC with Windows 7. Theres steps from Microsoft Here.

My girlfriend's lenovo ideapad Z710 won't boot up past the Lenovo splash screen. She turned it on this evening and it just keeps refreshing to the Lenovo splash screen. She can't access the bios as far as I know, and she tried the CMOS battery thing as far as I'm aware and that didn't work. It won't boot into the OS and just keeps refreshing to the Lenovo splash screen. Any help would be appreciated. it's a fairly old laptop but it's needed and we can't seem to get it to boot up again.

Laptop is running on Windows 10. Yesterday I updated my AMD graphics driver using the update tool from AMD. After all the necessary files were downloaded and installed, I was prompted to restart and I did. Upon restart, the laptop would not boot past the Lenovo screen. The white circles that rotate always freeze and it just stays on the Lenovo screen upon every attempt to boot. I can't enter safe mode or the bios options, what can I do to fix this?  P.S. A few months ago I began having an issue with the sleep mode. When trying to enter sleep mode, the laptop would just shut down unexpectedly and almost instantly. I'm not sure what caused this issue, but I've just been avoiding it by shutting down instead of sleeping. Not sure if this has anything to do with it, or if the restart was interrupted by an unexpected shutdown.

Dear Members,I am in trouble with my  Idea Pad Z570: I bought it couple of years ago running Windows 7. During the years of usage I had no trouble at all. With Windows 10 beeing released, I upgraded and it starts to make a lot of troubles: Bluescreen directly after boot or sign in, no WiFi, ... all the known stuff. So I decided last week to downgrade to Windows 7. But now, I am even in a bigger trouble:I tried to boot the Windows 7 from DVD and it crashed into Bluescreen saying: Windows Error 0xc0000225Restarting is not helping. So, i tried to go into BIOS to boot from another device, but I do not even get to BIOS or UEFI. So, thats a kind of Deadlock: I cannot boot from Harddisk because Windows Error 0xc0000225 appears and I cannot get into BIOS & UEFI because the Windows error 0xc0000225 comes before getting to BIOS. Hope this description of my current situation is understandable and you guys have a lot of ideas how to fix it. Thanks!TheGooner

Hi,  My ~3 year old ideapad purchased from Newegg seems to have gone south. I have Windows 8.1 installed. Last night I shut it off to bring it to class and when I got to class and tried to boot up, it wouldn't finish starting up, would sit at the logo screen for about 30 seconds before shutting down and starting over. The fans power up like it is going to start. It repeats this loop indefinitely. I tried holding the reset button next to the charger port and still nothing.  Suggestions?  Thanks

I recently upgraded my z570 with more ram and an SSDReinstalled windows 10 from a disk and everything is ok but now the machine does not shut down all the way. I get a black screen and I have to hold down the power button to turn it off completely. Same with restart.I've tried every known solution online for win 10 issues with shutdown and nothing works. Ive updated all the drivers from the lenovo site. The only thin I haven't tried is a bios updateWhenever I run the 45CN38WW.exe file I get a blue screen of death with this error message -page fault in non page areaI've also tried running as administrator but that doesn't change the BSOD. It looks like it fails when trying to read the current biosI've pulled the CMOS battery to reset the bios but this didn't help.I've looked at the phoenix crysis tool here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-U-and-S-Series-Notebooks/Bios-Recovery-For-ideapad-laptops/m-p/8...The instructions say to rename the .wph file but I don't have a wph file... all I have is the exe file that I can't run.Where can I find the actual .wph bios file to use in the phoenix crysis tool?

A:Lenovo Ideapad Z570 Bios Recovery

The actual BIOS file is found in the temporary files folder (enter %temp% in the address bar in Windows Explorer) in the subfolder WinFlash. The folder also contains a FvRecovery.fd file which is slightly larger than the BIOS1.wph. It doesn't run because the software is meant to be run off Windows XP or Windows 7, not Windows 10 (and Lenovo is known to restrict it even when the version of Windows 10 is wrong). After you ran the updater file, the folder will be created and should remain in the temporary direction. Its file contents look like this. The other problem is, it is not unusual for Intel Sandy Bridge devices to not properly shut down with Windows 10. You could install Windows 10 via Legacy instead of EFI if that is an option for you. I was using an older ThinkCentre M72e tower with Intel Sandy Bridge hardware, that has the same problem. It is not fixable by a BIOS update because the systems are not made for Windows 10. Some systems of the same type did not do this, mostly the ones that were installed using Legacy. This is also shown by the files "Slp20.pfae" and "OemSlp20.efi". The SLP stands for "System Locked Pre-installation" which was used for Windows 7 devices to just work with the provided Windows 7 licence key on the device in conjunction with the systems serial number. That doesn't exist to that degree since Windows 8 as the key is saved right in the BIOS and the never SLP versions use the key right from the BIOS to activate it Windows. Is your system... Read more

I have an older Ideapad z570, it made a popping sound and it won't power up now either.  I ordered a replacement adapter from lenovo thinking that was the issue as the light on the adapter was not coming on when it was plugged in.
After reading some of these boards, it appears I might have an issue with the mother board.  I would like to see abou getting it replaced, but there are no repair centers close to me, and I cannot find any information on Lenovo's webiste as to who I can contact or where I can send it.
And information to this end would  be greatly appreciated.  Sorry to tack on to this thread, but seemed silly to create another one for the same issue.
Mod's Edit: Since your issue involves a different model it was moved to its own thread in the correct forum in the Lenovo Z series notebook.

Couple days ago, my hard drive went bad and I installed new hard drive and Windows 10. In addition, I try to update BIOS to the latest software (45CN38WW.exe) but during update the BIOS program froze. I kept the laptop on overnight but it did not finish, so I was forced to restart Windows. Now laptop turns on but no video on LCD. I know there is a special process to recover corrupt BIOS, with USB drive and some ?Fn? keys. I will appreciate any help, thanks in advance.

If you have a z570 you'll know that they have a switchable graphic system controlled by a switch at the front of the laptop. However, after a repair by KNOWHOW, this switch is gone - they replaced the base plate obviously with the wrong model parts. Is there any way I can bypass this switch and enable my Nvidia card manually? At the moment it's greyed out in the control panel and I can't use it to play any games. This laptop used to have the switch. The Nvidia card in question is GT520M

My Windows 7 basically blew up and is no longer working. I tried a one-key recovery as well which utterly failed. As a last resort I tried using Windows 7 recovery disks sent by Lenovo. There are 4 disks 1,2,3, and an additional disk. Everything seemed to be going somewhat smoothly, although slow up until disk 3. The screen shows

"Current Item: ApplyOs" "Recover process is running please don't remove your power adapter."

It's been like this for days. The blue bar load bar under it seems to still be running. Tried again, this time with 4 different disks sent by Lenovo. The first 3 disks went a bit faster, but the end result was still the same, getting stuck on "ApplyOs". Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Hello there!Would somebody be so kind as to tell me how I am able to turn off UEFI mode in BIOS of my Lenovo IdeaPad Z570?(I can see very few things and options in the BIOS menu at the moment.)It's necessary, since I'd like to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium to my computer and during the installation process there is an error message - while choosing the partition where to install the system: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks."And I've read somewhere that turning UEFI mode off would solve the problem.By the way, I'd appreciate any other ideas or suggestions to solve this problem.

A:Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - MBR/GPT disk problem (or BIOS/UEFU)

There are two solutions for your problem.WARNING! Both the ways that I suggest will ERASE ALL OF YOUR DATA ON YOUR HD! If you have anything you want to save, copy it before doing it.First, easy, is to erase all partitions from your disk via windows installation utility. Then, windows will offer you to convert disk to GPT.Or, if windows doesn't do it in this 'automatic' way, you can convert disk to GPT using diskpart. For this, use this manual to access console http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/682-command-prompt-startup.htmlThen, type following commandsdiskpartWait until it loads, and thenLIST DISK <-- this will list currently connected disks, you should determine which of the disks is the one on which you want to install windows and remember its number.SELECT DISK <0> <--you should replace <0> with the number you had on previous stage, in most cases, it would be 0CLEANCONVERT GPTCREATE PARTITION EFI SIZE=200 OFFSET=1024SELECT PARTITION 1FORMAT FS=FAT32 QUICKCREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=<size_for_win_partition_in_megabytes> OFFSET=206848SELECT PARTITION 2FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK That should be all) After this, you should be able to install windows on your hard drive.

But it is an old installation, and, when I try to download the ISO from Windows using the product key and S/N, I'm told: "the product key you entered appears to be for software pre-installed by the device manufacturer." When I go to Lenovo, the customer support number did not call me back. Looking through the docs, I am less optimistic that there is a supported way to do this. Has anyone gone through this and can offer any advice? Thank you,Patty

Hi guys, I'm dealing with a problem which is currently (but I sincerely hope, not permanently) rendering my G700 useless. When I attempt to boot my PC it freezes at the Lenovo splash screen. I've waited ample amount of time but nothing appears to happen. One time I waited and managed to get into a Windows troubleshooting menu where I attempted to wipe the PC and start fresh, but this also froze at the lenovo screen soon after. Pressing the Novo button gives me 4 options but it appears to freeze, not allowing me to scroll through the options, or press enter. If I remove the harddrive it tells me to insert media and press OK, but once again, it appears to freeze as pressing enter doesn't do anything. I've tried booting from a USB stick but can't seem to get into any setting which would allow me to do this.I Removed DVD drive as I read on this forum that it was an issue with different Lenovo laptops, and since I don't use it anyway, decided to give it a go, but unfortunately nothing changed :-( If any kind soul could advise me with what I could possibly do, it be would be greatly appreciated as I'm dreading the thought of having to purchase a new laptop. Thanks :-)

When I turn it on, it continuously cycles between the "Lenovo" with black background screen, to a black screen, then seemingly restarts itself and continues over and over. When I hold down the reset button near the power cord, it shuts down the pc, turns it back on, and the cycle begins again. What are my options? Also The PC shipped with Windows 8, but I upgraded to the free windows 10 back when that was available. If I have to reset the PC, it'll reset to Windows 8 right? Will I be able to get it to Windows 10 again?

Hello, Lenovo Ideapad stuck when booting at the Lenovo logo. No beeps. Not responding to F1, F2, F10, F12 or Del keys being tapped at boot.Power button and keyboard light up. Tried booting from USB using a bootable stick - didn't happen, boot still stops at the Lenovo logo. I'm familiar with laptops and their innards - have tried removing and reseating RAM (and using individual modules vs both) - still stuck at the logo when trying to boot. Removing both gives me a blank black screen at boot - no logo.Replaced RAM modules - this machine has two hard drives - both bootable; tried removing one, then the other. Still stuck at boot logo. Removed both, still stuck at boot logo. I've prodded at nearly all the contacts inside - all seem to be intact; the motherboard is definitely receiving power. Any suggestions would be appreciated !!!

Okay, I so also looked up whether the BIOS could be 'hard reset' - assuming there is a corruption in the config; and there isn't much help online. But if anyone knows how, please drop in a comment !Now, somehow, after reattaching all parts and discovering an old microSD card in the SD adapter - inside the laptop's slot - and then removing it, my laptop is booting again !Is this what could have caused it? I am not familiar with laptops (EFI or BIOS based) trying to boot from a memory slot. Or perhaps my prodding and putting it back together did something, Keeping this thread open in case anyone would like to weigh in on the points above!

Hello everyone. I've been given a Lenovo Z570 laptop with little background information other than the fact that it refuses to boot. A clean install is not an option at this point due to the personal information on the laptop. When I turn on the laptop, it displays the Lenovo sign, then boots into a screen that says Windows Error Recovery. I've been working through the troubleshooting guide here with little to no luck. Here is what I encountered on each step:

1. Using "Last Known Good Configuration" results in a black screen that does not go away or change.

2. Using "Repair your computer" under Advanced Boot Options leads to a black screen. If I try using a Windows installation disk, the screen hangs on the initial "Setup is starting" screen indefinitely. Using a repair disk gets farther- it lets me choose some settings, but then hangs on a screen that says "Searching for Windows Installations". I'm not sure what a UEFI install is but I assume my hard disk is not UEFI because I did not see any options in the BIOS

Edit: I'm sure that the installation disk is not corrupted: tried running it in another Windows 7 laptop and it loaded without problems.

3. The hard drive is still detected in BIOS set up

4. Trying the System Restore leads to a black screen

5. As mentioned above, the repair disk hangs on "Searching for Windows Installations"

7. Booting into Safe Mode with Networking leads to a black screen

8. Not available,... Read more

Hello, I have a Lenovo IdeaPad and I am missing a feature that my previous MacBook had. Opening the lid on this laptop does nothing, I have to physically push the Power Button for it to wake up. Is there a way for me to turn on the feature to wake when opening? I have gone through Power Management and the Devices/Hardware and have not seen that setting. Only comments related are that I can have it do something when closing. The ACPI lid driver is from the beginning of time, 2006, I am surprised since this laptop is just a few days old that there is such an old driver still being used. Is there something there?

Im sure this is a common issue but my programs in Windows 7 will not open after initial start up. The computer boots up into Windows 7 just fine and everything appears in order. However, if I open any program such as Google chrome or a game, it will not open at all and does not display an error message. Sometimes if I quickly open a program while the computer is still opening programs, it may open briefly but sometimes freeze. I am assuming it is a conflicting driver issue or program but no new hardware was installed.
This recently all started happening for no real reason as I had not downloaded or installed any hardware or programs when this happened.
Everything seems to work better in safe mode (although occasionally, some programs will also not boot up). I've tried all the usual options such as a clean boot (did not work at all), system restore (also didn't solve the issue), tried Repair in the boot up, tried opening msconfig, and also tried running Malwarebytes and anti-virus software in safe mode and so far nothing has been detected.
Im not sure if it is a driver issue as everything seems updated and the laptop is relatively new and hardly ever used with only a few installed programs since its purchase. I am running the laptop just fine in safe mode for the most part and can figure out what to do next.
Also, since the laptop was store bought, I don't have a Windows 7 install disc to re-install Windows. It was preloaded.
Im all out of options at this point. ... Read more

Hey everyone. Basically I had installed windows 10 and was stuck on the screen with the spinning dots. I ended up getting in stuck in the "preparing to fix windows" problem. So I just reinstalled Windows 7 using (I think?) the backup. I dont have a windows 7 disk. Well it worked perfectly and then I turned it off to go to bed. The next day it wont get past the lenovo screen that starts immediately. it goes to a black page with a blinking typing indicator, but immediately restarts to the lenovo screen again. It never gets to the "preparing windows" stages. I tried looking it up and tried so many random things. Laptop: Lenovo thinkpad t-61 2gb of ram. Any help is greatly appreciated

My laptop showed a bluescreen earliert today " something went wrong" and then rebooted but hung up when the Lenovo Logo shows up. I tried to use the novo button to reach BIOS because three days ago I activated virtualization and thought maybe that causes trouble. However, when I pressed BIOS Setup, I got a black screen instead of BIOS and decided to turn it off after a while. Then I tried to get into BIOS again and it did not work anymore. I can't get in.  I can start the laptop, it shows the Logo, but that's it.  Tried all sorts of button-pressing without success. The only thing that changes something is ctrl+alt+del which makes the logo blink once and then it's back to being hung up.  Please- if anydbody has an idea, I don't wanna send it somewhere for two weeks and lose all my data.  Does anybody know if I lose warranty if I open it to safe my data btw?

A:Lenovo Yoga 910 - crashed and does not boot properly

Hi ld4795,
Removing the hard drive for backup or even for upgrade should not void the warranty but it would still be best to call in technical support to inform them of your need to back up your files.
As you remove the hard drive, you can take the opportunity to perhaps remove the battery (AC charger unplugged) and press the power button to drain remaining flea power.
Connecting the charger without the battery and hard drive to press the Novo button (12 seconds) to turn on and access the BIOS menu can be done. Check if display for BIOS to appear so you may set it to defaults ( F9) and save and exit (F10).
You can confirm these steps with tech support as this would help them identify the point of failure and parts needed for service. Check on the hardware manual for disassembly guide likewise, the service module here for visual reference.
Update us how it goes.

A:Lenovo Ideapad Y560 "black screen in boot up after windows 7 logo"

Sounds like a corrupted file system, so try running chkdsk.

How to run System File Checker (SFC) or chkdsk from the Recovery ConsoleBoot your Vista or Windows 7 installation DVD
When you see "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD", press Enter
At the "Install Windows" screen, click on Repair your computer at lower left
At the System Recovery Options screen, make note of the drive letter assigned to your boot drive (normally C and click Next
At the Chose a Recovery Tool window, click on Command Prompt. You will be sitting at X:\Sources directory
Run SFC or chkdskIf you did not note the drive letter of your boot disk, you can enter bcdedit and look at the osdevice line to see what it is.
For sfc, type sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows and press Enter (use the letter from above)
For chkdsk, type chkdsk c: /r and press Enter (use the letter from above).

Let either run to completion undisturbed.

Had a user call saying their computer wouldn't turn on.  Got there and it was stuck at the lenovo splash screen as soon as it boots.  I've brought it back and have tried nearly everything.  There are no POST codes while it boots up either.  The following troubleshooting steps have been taken:Reseated RAMRemoved 1 stick of RAMRemoved both sticks of RAM (I get the no RAM sequence of beeps)Disconnected HDDDisconnected Disk DriveDisconnected both drives at the same time.Reseated all power connections on moboPulled out CMOS batteryHeld Power Button while power was unplugged and battery was removedI don't know if there's any more steps other than getting a new motherboard.  I know you can update the BIOS with a USB or CD.  But if I can't even get past that screen is it possible for me to flash or update my BIOS?  This is pretty much the screen i'm getting.  Nothing else other than "lenovo".  This is not my picture though, as I have an M82 here.

A:M82 won't get past black lenovo splash screen

Did you do a CMOS reset (move the CMOS jumper)?    See the BIOS update failure recovery procedure in the HMM.   I suggest you do the full BIOS recovery process.

Hello. As the title says, my Ideapad Y500 is starting to have some issues. A week ago it refused to shut down. Screen would turn off but not the laptop, which would remain kind of dormant. Following some advice online I uninstalled Express Cache form the Control Panel. Now the system turns off, but I have a new problem, this time booting up.Whenever I boot up the laptop it goes to the Lenovo splash screen, then black, then resets to the splash screen and stays there forever. If I shut it down manually and then boot it up again, it goes to Windows as it should, but the whole process takes from 2 to 10 minutes. If I try to restart the system, same thing happens.  If I keep doing this I fear one day it will just die on me.Added to this, I've been getting intermitent failures of the Intel RST software, which sometimes just won't work at all. Other times it's fine. I read somewhere I should update the drivers but I don't know where to find them or if hey may harm my pc even more.I'm running Windows 8.1 (64 bits). So far, besides uninstallid Express Cache, I have run chkdsk on both disks on my system and they appear to be fine (or at least nothing comes up when running the scan). Beyond this, I have no clue how to proceed. I'm not a especially tech savvy person, so any help you guys might give me will be greatly appreciated it. Also, if you can explain it as clear and simply as possible, it would be that much better. Thanks a lot!

I recently tried to reset my Lenovo flex 3 back to factory settings, which is about a year and a half old, and instead of resetting it froze. I tried to restart the laptop while it was frozen, which seemed like it worked, but after a couple minutes I saw that it wasn?t making it past the logo screen. It just continuously restarted itself up until the logo screen, blacked out, then started again. How can I get my computer up and running again???

I am totally disappointed in Lenovo's customer support. My lenovo 710s was bought less than 1 year ago (as of 10/6/2017, when I sent it in for repairs) and had 2 years warranty (1+1 year of extended warranty). I sent my laptop for repair due to a white spot issue on the monitor, affecting viewing of webpages and videos. However, the laptop was returned after 3 weeks without any fixes/repairs, as Lenovo claimed that it was a cosmetic issue. I wrote a message on their customer care website on 3/7/2017. However, they ignored me and there was no reply to date.  I thought Lenovo is a reliable and popular brand. However, it turned out to be a horrible decision, much to my dismay!

HI!!! I have the above mentioned ntb. I noticed that the Lenovo Settings is saying that there is a problem with the Lenovo System Interface Foundation, the same goes with Lenovo Vantage, and it provided me with the possibility to update it. I downloaded the offered file, the instalation runs without a problem, I restart the computer but the problem with the LSIF was still there. I uninstaled Lenovo Settings and Vantage, and now I am not able to install it again. When I want to get Lenovo Vantage from the store, I am receiving and error message, that it can´t be installed, error code: 0x80073CFB. Thx for an advice how to deal with this. Ondrej

Hi everyone. I can see that people with other similar style Lenovo laptops (Yoga 900) complain about the same issue so was wondering if there is a solution or an optimized version of this software. I did an update of the BIOS and the Power Management driver and still a constant power usage.  Once the laptop is flipped the YMC detects it and turns off the keyboard functionality to prevent accidental presses and that is pretty much all until it flipped back and enabled. And all of this requires a constant high CPU usage? Any help would be highly appreciated. I also tried rolling back to older drivers without luck in decreasing this CPU hog usage. To put such load on a i5 6th gen CPU really implies an inferior service integration....
