Windows 8 Pro, Firefox 23.0.1: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server

Q: Windows 8 Pro, Firefox 23.0.1: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server

Good Day All

I have Windows 8 Pro, Firefox 23.0.1.

Firefox frequently cannot connect to some websites, also some sites Flash videos will not work. I have tried disabling Hardware Acceleration and Launching FF in Safe mode and Launched IE10.0.1 to test but the issue persists, so I think it may be W8 and not the browsers.

In Firefox the Error I receive is:

"Unable to connect"
"Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.gecrbcredit.com."

In IE10 the Error I receive is:

"This page can't be displayed"

GEMONEY is obviously one of the sites that has not worked since I started using W8 about 2 weeks ago.

I had thought it was due to the Security of HTTPS but other sites using HTTPS do not have the same issue.

I also tried to connect via IP address with this result:

Pinging GEMONEY [216.74.188.139] with 32 bytes of data:
General failure.
General failure.
General failure.
General failure.

Ping statistics for 216.74.188.139:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),
Any Input is appreciated, thank you!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Check your Services are Started:
COM+ Event System (for WZC issues)
Computer Browser
DHCP Client
DNS Client
Network Connections
Network Location Awareness
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

TCP/IP Netbios helper
Wireless Zero Configuration (XP wireless configurations)
WLAN AutoConfig (Vista wireless configurations)

Note: You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.

All of these services should be started, and their startup type should be automatic (or perhaps manual).

If a service is not running, open it's properties and check the dependencies. Check each of the dependencies and see which one is preventing the service from running. Hi guys.

Im Patrick, im 18 and finished school last year. I went to Geelong High in Victoria, Australia. My problem is, everytime i try to access sites such as myspace or facebook (login sites) I get an error saying

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at secure.myspace.com.

This is when im at home. Now i thought it might be because the school is blocking these sites in which case I would not ask the question because its against your forum rules. Buuut! my brother has the exact same computer in every way shape and form and his works on all these sites.. to be honest im sick of proxies to access, can you help me out

cheers, Pat.

A:Firefox can't establish a connection to the server

Well since you say your sick of proxies...it would be a good idea to check your proxie settings in FireFox.
click on tools in the menu bar and select options, then select advanced tab. under advanced tab select network tab and click on connections settings button. then make sure the check box that states "no proxy" is selected.
Post back with any updates....Thanks..

There was a website I would always go to. Worked just fine until recently. Now, when I try to open the site with firefox I get the message "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at refer.ccbill.com" every time. Everyone I have sent the link to said it works fine, and I can access other sites just fine, so it's not a connection problem. Nor is it soley a firefox problem. I have tried on IE and Opera, and about three other browsers I found out there, to see if it was browser specific or might have had to do with existing blocked sites lists in IE or Firefox, but even on newly installed browsers the problem still exists.

It is only a new problem that never used to happen, so that is all the more confusing. I disabled my spyware blaster and even eliminated my HOSTS file to see if that was the case, to no avail. I could not find the site in my restricted sites list, and oddly enough, even after I eliminated my hosts file, there was still a massive list in the restricted sites window, and I could not find any other list that might have held restricted sites; I did a complete search for files that included the name of some random server that was included in the RS list, and it came up nil.

I have seen on google that this problem has been experienced before, where it is not just a firefox problem, but I found no solutions. I would really like it if my computer didn't take it upon itself which sites to access, because I like that sight and my PC... Read more

Hi, As you probably know (remember?) I have recently reinstalled my OS (Win 7) because of some malicious software, but that's not the case. The thing is that I'm unable to access some site which whom I had no connection problems before format. Sites like gigapedia.com or ifile.it (there are more of them, but these two are of particular inetrest to me) are no longer connectable. I tried to see so pattern in this 'blockade', but couldn't find it. I have adblock, but It's turned off on both sites, java is enabled, I cleared all browser cache to see if that helps but It didn't. Interestingly, when I used site anonymisers like http://www.proxybrowsing.com, problems disappeared I couls actually see conetnts of the site, but as It's required to login to these sites it didn't help me.Is It possible that thay kind of block my IP?(I have dynamic one).If any of you guys have some tips that might possibly help, please answer me.Regards,

Hi, I've been using Firefox for a good year or so now, and have never really had any problems, until recently.

Here's the problem when I try to view various websites (mainly https sites, but also slacker.com, and when I first open Firefox), Firefox returns an error message similar to this: "Could not establish an encrypted connection because certificate presented by website has an invalid signature". My only option is "OK".

I've tried just about everything to try to troubleshoot this issue, I've tried un-installing and re-installing, I've tried disabling my add-ons, I've even checked my firewall (COMODO firewall Pro, a free firewall recommended by PC Magazine) to see if that was doing anything, but that doesn't seem to be the case, especially since I'm able to connect to most sites.

In all cases except the initial opening of Firefox (which leads me to believe that Firefox is trying to alert me before i connect to any encrypted sites), loading of the page immediately fails and i remain on the page currently displayed (if its a new, blank tab, the page remains blank).

I can't even remember the first time the problem occurred, I think it was after I upgraded my firewall to a more recent version, which is why I originally thought that my firewall might of had something to do with it, and for the same reason why I can't completely dismiss my firewall as the culprit.

Hi All,

Its critical for me to get some solution to this problem that has all of a sudden popped up.

We have a windows server 2003 machine running some server applications. After some time it stops connecting to any other machine on network. Web browser does not open page hosted over intranet, ODBC links to DBs on other machine stop connecting, remote desktop windows to other computers on network do not open, etc. However, it keeps pinging other machines.

Although, from some other machine, I can open remote desktop window to this server. I suspect the server reaches a point where it cannot open any more connections (maximum sockets opened?). After giving a restart, the server works fine (for a while!)

Can anybody help me with this? Server is hosting an application at client-site which is in production. Can't afford any downtime. Any help/suggestion will be highly praised.

Regards

A:Firefox Message: Proxy Server Refused Connection

Well, I actually figured this out myself after doing some more hunting around, and it was ridiculously easy.

After performing a deep scan on my computer with System Mechanic, then my spyware programs, which found & deleted the tinyproxy.exe, in Firefox, I went to Tools: Options: Advanced, then under Network, click Settings. Then select No Proxy. This MAY need to be done after disabling it in task manager, however. Wala. I was back on right aftewards. I got this virus from Facebook when a friend sent me a message saying they had a video with me in it. Next time I'll only look at POSTED videos! What a waste of my time this morning!!

Hope this helps someone else!

Either way here is the main issues that is going on with my computer which I really would like help on. Let's begin with the windows update. I do not use I.e. but the fact that my pc has to restart to update this is getting a bit annoying. So I would like a way to fix this if possible. If it does come to reloading the system you can borrow a copy of Vista from friend, unfortunately MS does not supply any ISO's on Digital River.  One very important thing you must use the same version of Vista, also look over the computers box for Microsoft COA sticker with the serial number on it you must have that.  Get the info ahead of time, right my computer it will show your version. Hey All,

I have been having an issue with a Windows 7 Home Premium laptop where, when I establish a connection to the internet, it restarts. This happens if I connect to wireless or wired connections. I went so far as to perform a factory restore from the system partition and it is still doing it.

I came across this thread: http://forums.techguy.org/virus-oth...mputer-restarts-when-connecting-internet.html and am having the same exact issue.

There were some instructions in that thread that were specific to that persons system so I was wondering if someone would be able to walk me through the steps to get rid of whatever is causing the issue on this laptop.

Hi,

Long time linux user, but first day of working remotely from home today so went out and bought a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium this morning.

I am trying to access my work PC remotely after doing a fresh install of windows and receiving the below:

"Remote desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:
1) Remote access to the server is not enabled
2) The remote computer is turned off
3) The remote computer is not available on the network
Make sure the remote computer is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled."

I have established some sort of VPN connection through the browser with work (sorry I am not very technically inclined, icon says "network connect" in the taskbar and shows I am conected), our techie guy said then just run Remote Desktop and type in my computer name and should connect, which it is not.

I phoned a work buddy who is working remotely who said he can ping my work machine no problem.

I tried disabling the firewall but this has not helped.

Any ideas?

A:Unable to establish Remote Desktop Connection Windows 7

Weird, just dawned on me to ping the work machine myself and it worked. Still can't remote desktop to it though.

A couple of weeks ago I installed Windows 8 (fresh install from scratch, not an update) on my computer. I do a lot of web browsing and over the last couple of weeks I've been using Windows 8, I could swear the web browsing wasn't as fast at it used to be on Windows 7.
I then noticed I was having major issues bringing up my router's control panel (ASUS RT-N56U) so thinking it was my router I upgraded the firmware. Turned out, the Avast Anti-Virus I was running has issues with Windows 8. I removed AVAST and turned on Windows Defender (which in Windows 8 is also an anti-virus program now referred to MSE - Miscrosoft Security Essentials). MSE has gotten fairly good reviews so I decided to use it, for maximum compatibility with Windows 8.

However, although the router control panel would now come up okay, browsing still seemed to not be quite as fast as it used to be. I sat down at the old 5-year old Dell Desktop next to me that is running Windows 7, both computers were connected to the router via Gigabit Ethernet. I tested network speeds with Speedtest.net to make sure they were both getting the same Internet speeds (which they were.) I found a couple 'heavy' web pages to test:

Epicurious.com: Recipes, Menus, Cooking Articles & Food Guides (home page)
sports.yahoo.com (home page)

The browsing was MUCH faster on the Windows 7 machine!! So I decided to do more of a controlled test.

Often, when I reboot my machine for whatever reason, it boots up normally, I log in, it shows my desktop, loads all the icons and then takes upwards of 5 minutes or longer for the networking icon in the taskbar so show that I have network access (shows that
little blue ring).  Now, normally I wouldn't think this is much of a problem since I've found a blog at one point detailing how to change the address it's using for that confirmation.  However, in this case, I'm unable to use (m)any other windows
services until it decides I'm connected.
For instance, I'm unable to open the registry editor - I'll open the start menu, search for regedit and run it, but will no longer be able to use the search tool in the Start menu until the registry editor appears and that won't appear until the network
configuration decides I'm connected.  If I open a browser (doesn't matter if it's Firefox, Chrome or IE), I'm unable to visit any sites - they say I'm not connected.  I'm unable to open the Network and Sharing center at all - if I try to left or
right click the network icon in the taskbar, nothing happens.  If I try to visit the Network and Sharing center by typing the address in a folder window, it simply never loads until that icon shows I'm connected.
In other words, my computer is pretty unusable until Windows decides I do have an internet connection.  A little about that - I've had this problem for about a month now and have experienced it while c... Read more

Hi,
Have you tried to boot in Safe Mode with Networking? Does this still occur in that Mode?
Also, perform the following actions.
1. Turn off all your firewalls and anti-virus applications.
2. Update the driver of your network adapter to latest version.Juke Chou

Every time I try to open the internet, I get a message saying that Firefox can't find it's own server. My parents were the last ones to use my computer, but my mom works with them and knows about them. They didn't down load anything they were just looking at travel sites. That was four days ago and my internet hasn't worked since.

I am not a computer tech type person, so please reply in non-technical terms.

Hi,

Sorry for not seeing you post. I would like you to run all your scans first to see if you have anything on your computer that might be blocking FF from connecting to the net.

If you aren't sure if you have the right scans then you can look at this. It has a lot of good information in it.

Cheers!

Hello guys, my web-fu is awful and I'm useless with computers so....

Someone sent a trojan to my PC, and then said they'd "hidden a server in my firefox.exe" . They were able to control all sorts of stuff on my computer, move my mouse etc, as if they were using my pc.

After much talking with them, They claim to have taken the server away from it now, but i still get 2 lots of "firefox.exe" running in my Taskmanager. I'm just worried it is still there and they can access private information.

Please help.

Lately, at least five times in the last six days, I have clicked on Mozilla Firefox, only to get the window that says, "Server Not Found",with the advice to "'Try again."

I do that to no avail. The only way I can get my computer to go to Firefox is to Restart it. Then it will work.

Any tips on how to avoid the "Server Not Found" window and get to Firefox right away?

Thanks.

Hello,

I come to you asking for help. I am a man in need.

I went out of town for a couple days and the only person left in the apartment was my roommate. When I got back he said something about a virus and the internet not working anymore. So I go ahead and start up FF. and it says the server could not be found. FF is the only thing that doesn't work.

I asked him for what he did and he said he was trying to download porn lol.

I ran spyware/malware and virus scans and I found nothing so far.

Please help!

The error message is as follows..
"Failed to Connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.aol.com.
Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection.
* Could the site be temporarily unavailable? Try again later.
* Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network connection.
* Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing."

I tried a lot of other sites all with the same problem but when i run IE (Internet Explorer) everything is fine...
I completley shut down all firewalls to see if that was the problem and no change.. tried a reset, etc.. any ideas?

A:Firefox cannot find server but IE can?

Check HERE for the most common things, especially the firewall.
Make sure the Firefox version you are running is the one that has permission. Even though you think the firewall was shut down, it may actually still be active.

Why not? You'll lose functionality if you don't. Not all servers are bad---just the ones that shouldn't be connecting in the first place.

I'm a computer illiterate. Please spell out your response in the most simple way possible. Don't assume I understand computer lingo or procedures. I have a Compaq Presario SR1610NX desktop running XP. My computer is running a little slow but I have eliminated all start-up programs. I have used CCleaner recently. My Microsoft Defender Pro antispyware software and Avast Antivirus software claim there is nothing negative on my 'puter. My main concern at the moment is the message I SOMETIMES get "Firefox Can't Find the Server". I would appreciate any suggestions. And yes, I have sent in a donation to Tech Guy. THANK YOU.

Firefox can't find the server at p.
From the url bar at top I type in FIREFOX:

adultfriendfinder.com
or
www.adultfriendfinder.com

in the status bar at the bottom it says:
looking up secure.adultfriendfinder.com
then see it change to looking up p...
then looking up us.yhs.search.yahoo.com...
then it ends up at this page:
http://us.yhs.search.yahoo.com/avg/search?fr=yhs-avg&type=yahoo_avg_hs2-tb-web_us&p=p
which says: Search results secured by AVG

If I use Firefox and a google link page i get:
Server not found
Firefox can't find the server at p.
* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
www.example.com
NOT A TYPING ERROR I CHECKED.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
I am able to load numerous pages. NOT THE PROBLEM.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
FIREFOX IS PERMITTED TO ACCESS THE WEB.

NORMALLY I USE FIREFOX and I get.
Firefox can't find the server at p.
It doesn't matter if I paste it in URL BAR AT TOP OR use GOOGLE.COM or yahoo.com

When I try IE 8 to go to AdultFriendFinder.com it says
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

So for some reason, Firefox just simply cannot connect to the server. I use the Windows Firewall, and I use the Symantec Antivirus program as well. Ive tried disabling the IPv6 option when I enter about:config in the location bar. Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program as well. The last thing I did before this started happening was update it to version 2.0.0.12. All other programs that require the Internet, such as IE and Trillian work.

Any help would be great

i have installed firefox, but cannot connect. I get a screen saying that the proxy server is not connecting. I do not know how to check proxy settings on Windows 7/Vista. Please advise and thank you in advance.

A:firefox and proxy server

Proxy settings for Firefox are configured from within Firefox, regardless of which Windows version you're using.

Open Firefox, click on Tools >> Options.
Click on "Advanced" then click the "Network" tab, then "Settings".

Choose the option "Use system proxy settings" by clicking the radio button next to it.

With that setting enabled, Firefox should work even if you don't use a proxy-server.
