Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro boot problem

Q: Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro boot problem

we've dealt with these problems before, unfortunately this time we cannot find the onekey recovery for this particular model. ive scoured the net and come up null. basically the system image and recovery image is corrupted on the msata ssd. regular recovery media will not detect the ssd nor will the bios. the OS partition is intact and not corrupt. ive tried rebuilding the bcd to no avail. normally we can generally get a system image from the manufacturer and backup files and reinstall via image, but Lenovo refuses to issue a recovery as the warranty expired on Jan 1st 2016. So basically the customer is out a pricey computer because lenovo will not provide a recovery, even with serial and proof of purchase. Traditional reinstall will not work either as it needs to be flashed via an image. i find it to be ridiculous as the customer has no recourse to correct the issue. i have verified the ssd is functioning correctly via an external adapter that I use to work with msata/m.2/mpcie etc. Im at a loss here on what to do as Lenovo is zero help. Does anyone here have the recovery for the yoga 2 pro please and thank you.

I've been looking around and found a few people who are very displeased with the logo startup/boot logo (example1, example2), but no way to change it as of yet. Is it possible without too much hassle? I know it's not a big deal but the logo is simply terrible in so many ways. If nothing, then at least I'm raising awareness and maybe Lenovo will choose a better graphic designer for our collective startup screens. I mean, seriously? Is that the best you could come up with?

A:Yoga 720 Lenovo boot logo. Is there a way to change it? (should be the same for every new Yoga).

I do not know of any way to easily change it without hackging the BIOS, nor would I waste time trying to do so since it is just the boot logo, and I am just happy to have it boot up.

Last night I was working on my laptop and it suddenly came up with the BIOS screen and said No Boot Device Found.  I restarted it and the Lenovo logo comes up, it shows as if it's loading then the screen goes black with a cursor and that's as far as it will go.  I was able to get it into safe mode without Network but it wouldn't let me run any virus software.  I have tried today to get back into safe mode with networking no go.  Now it won't even come up in safe mode without networking.  I'm getting very frustrated.  I have my Windows 10 USB that I used to install the upgrade so I tried that.  No go.  I made a bootable USB with AVG on it.  No go  Has anyone got any other ideas other than trash it?Please let me know I appreciate any help you can offer

So, I have been searching all over the internet for this issue where the Yoga keyboard flashes and then nothing.  I have seen lots of YouTube videos of the problem, lots of forum posts describing it.  Sometimes, someone is able to do some sequence of hitting the reset button and holding the power button for over a minute that gets it up and running again, but the majority of the time, the problem still seems to be unresolved. Has anyone had this fix performed?  How much did it cost and where did you take your machine to have it done.  Mine is just out of warranty (figures!).  Thanks for your help.(Sent from a 12-year old Toshiba laptop that just keeps on running, sitting next to an 18 year old Lenovo that is useless.)

My Lenovo Yoga 720 only powers up if I press the power button and hold it for a long time (approximately 10 or 15sec). Otherwise it shows Lenovo Logo and freezes on that screen. I bought it recently and had this issue from the fisrt day. Can you please tell me what can cause this problem?

Windows 8 stops running that pointed circle, that shows somethings happening. Windows 7 brings a blank screen after the "Loading windows" bar.I've tried removing the battery, the WiFi card, the m.2 SSD, everything I could imagine was faulty, no change. Hi everyone, My laptop (Lenovo Yoga 710 Ideapad 15IKB 80V5) is not able to start up. I recently had an issue with my audio, so I uninstalled the audio drivers, reset my laptop, and tried to reinstall them. When I reinstalled Realtek, it did not launch or show that it was installed on my computer (and I tried this multiple times).I then went to restore my laptop to the point before I uninstalled the driver in the first place. The restoration did not work for whatever reason, and I received the blue screen saying something about my PC not restarting properly and that it would try to fix itself. I continued to get that same blue screen for a few times, and then it gave me a different screen with varying start up/restore options. I tried almost all of them besides ones that have to do with USB restore files (which I do not have). They did not work. I then got a black screen on start up with only my cursor. I tried stickykeys, ctrl-alt-delete, windows key-volume up, and any other boot up combinations I could think of. Nothing worked and the screen never changed. I'm stumped and I have no idea what to do and I need some advice and help. Thanks in advance.

Last night while finishing a word document I found my documents to be having issues saving. When attempting to auto save it would want to save to a separate drive. It then refused to turn off through the power off button in the start menu. Tired and getting fed up with it I hard booted it with the power button. This morning I attempt to turn it on, goes to a blue screen requesting a language for the keyboard then goes to another blue screen with troubleshooting options or shut off pc. After attempting the auto repair a message pops up saying I need to restart and try again. It's getting into the tip of assessment week and I need this laptop asap as it has all my documents on it. Any Help Would be appreciated. Thanks In Advance!

Hello, Today morning after utilizing my laptop, all of my programs froze. I decided to shut down my computer after everything was frozen to try to reboot it, but I received the error Windows Boot Manager Failed. I tried utilizing many of the commons solutions to try to fix this problem such as changing the boot mode from UEFI to Legacy, but that did not work (also my hard drive was detected while I was in the BIOS menu).  I also tried to do a reinstallation of Windows because I thought something was wrong with the operating system, but every time I get past the Windows Logo (I put the Windows installation files onto a USB and set that as the priority when opening up the laptop), I get a blank screen after the logo finishes. This also happens when I tried to switch it back to Legacy. There I would get  a black screen. I was wondering what was wrong with the laptop? Is there any way for me to fix this? I also really need the files currently on the hard drive as they were not backed up. Please let me know if there is anything I can do. Thank you. I apologize for the very blurry screenshot, I just wanted to show what screen I get after getting past the Windows Screen. I cannot get past the Lenovo Screen if I try to access the USB from the boot menu.

Hi Guys.Need help.I have Lenovo Yoga 2 11 ( 2years old). There was no issue till 2 days back. Have given the issue details below.Details :1. Laptop went into issue - " Windows is not responding" and then got shut down.2. Tried to restart. After booting, the screen did show that "Windows is attempting repair". It was in the same state for more than 24 hours.3. I did a hard shut down and tried to restart. But then it displayed "No Bootable device, hit any key".4. I downloaded Windows Recovery media (Windows 10 X64) to USB and booted from there to fix windows start up issue repair.5. After repair, tried to reboot. Faces the issue (point 3) again and again.6. Looked into the BIOS set up and found that nothing is there under 'EFI section'. The Boot mode is 'UEFI' and not allowing me to edit, so can't change it to Legacy.7. Browsed through Lenovo support forum and other web help for a day, tried everything, but not able to change boot set up or boot from harddrive.8. I thought Hard drive may have been disconnected, but on BIOS Information section, I can see Hard disk information. So it seems hard disk is good. Can anybody help me with valuable input please ? When I try using the nova button it directly goes to attempting automatic repair and BSODs, bypassing the nova menu. I made a usb drive with windows 10 but I'm unable to get the machine to show a boot menu or neverless boot from the flash drive. Hi community,

I am hoping that someone can help me get my laptop back to life.

I wanted to do a clean Windows 10 install on my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, which I have done once before without any problems. However this time when booting from the Win 10 boot USB drive nothing happened for a long time (several minutes), so I restarted and tried again, still the same. This was weird because I knew the boot USB was fine, as I had used it before for this purpose on this laptop. Next step was obviously making sure the USB device and boot files were good, so i tested on another PC and everything worked fine - now here comes the really weird part...after this I was not able to boot from the SSD (or the USB, or any other boot device) anymore, as soon as anything not related to the BIOS was booted, the screen would just be stuck at either the Lenovo logo screen or a blank screen. Boot failure also includes the Lenovo recovery option (accesible via the Novo menu)

I have tried a lot of things, but nothing seems to work:
- resetting the BIOS
- trying out any BIOS settings that would make sense in a boot context
- hard resetting the BIOS by unplugging the CMOS over a night (which worked, but didnt solve the issue)
- trying different USB boot images and formats (all working on similar PCs)

these are the facts/findings:
- BIOS seems to work fine
- boot devices are discovered in the BIOS boot manager and appear as they should (they're detected as intended)
- the boot devices tested works fin... Read more

Hi, After couple of years of work my laptop ended in a boot menu. I see both windows boot manager & hdd listed. None of those options works. It just returns me back to the same selection screen. Diagnostic splash shows BIOS and GPU as shadowed. In a BIOS I cannot see the version. (All the settings are default). I tried to play with BIOS settings enabling\disabling legacy support, changing boot order, now I am trying to reset the BIOS by drainiing the battery.Yesterday my spouse was watching some movies and fell asleep while leaving laptop unplugged. After attaching power adapter it did not start up. However keyboard light worked. I did a hard reset and now I have the issue described above.I did not update neither the bios nor drivers. SSD seems to be working. I have an assumption that automatic update of the OS could start but then I should see Windows Logo at least. Please help to resolve this. Best regards,Dzmitry

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

My laptop showed a bluescreen earliert today " something went wrong" and then rebooted but hung up when the Lenovo Logo shows up. I tried to use the novo button to reach BIOS because three days ago I activated virtualization and thought maybe that causes trouble. However, when I pressed BIOS Setup, I got a black screen instead of BIOS and decided to turn it off after a while. Then I tried to get into BIOS again and it did not work anymore. I can't get in.  I can start the laptop, it shows the Logo, but that's it.  Tried all sorts of button-pressing without success. The only thing that changes something is ctrl+alt+del which makes the logo blink once and then it's back to being hung up.  Please- if anydbody has an idea, I don't wanna send it somewhere for two weeks and lose all my data.  Does anybody know if I lose warranty if I open it to safe my data btw?

A:Lenovo Yoga 910 - crashed and does not boot properly

Hi ld4795,

Greetings.

Removing the hard drive for backup or even for upgrade should not void the warranty but it would still be best to call in technical support to inform them of your need to back up your files.

As you remove the hard drive, you can take the opportunity to perhaps remove the battery (AC charger unplugged) and press the power button to drain remaining flea power.

Connecting the charger without the battery and hard drive to press the Novo button (12 seconds) to turn on and access the BIOS menu can be done. Check if display for BIOS to appear so you may set it to defaults ( F9) and save and exit (F10).

You can confirm these steps with tech support as this would help them identify the point of failure and parts needed for service. Check on the hardware manual for disassembly guide likewise, the service module here for visual reference.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Hi, I have a Lenovo Yoga 211 laptop which I purchased 3 years ago. Two days ago I turned it on, & the Lenovo logo came up as usual, & the little circle, but i never got past that screen. I tried some function keys, & wound up with the screen saying Preparing Your Automatic Repair (or something similar). After a while, the screen went to Repairing Your PC. Then the screen said Repairing Your Disks. This May Take Over An Hour. Over an hour later, the screen said the automatic repair couldn?t repair the disks. I searched Google for answers, checked some videos, wasted $47.00 on some answer site, & now I?m here. Has anyone else had this problem?Thank you in advance for any help!

I recently updated my computer through Lenovo Vantage there I specifically remember a BIOS update being one of them. I've also downloaded a Windows store program called ReadAloud. My computer usually boots up within 10 seconds, but for some reason it takes 3- 5 minutes to get to the login screen. I had originally thought I was stuck on boot. I've called Lenovo customer support. They had me completely power off my computer. Then press the little reset button that has a arrow next to it. We discovered that my SSD was being recognized. Employee had me press F9/F10 to load and save optimal BIOS/Boot settings. While I was messing with these settings the menu loaded terribly slowly. I would press the down arrow or side arrow to traverse through the menu and the inputs were regestering 10-15 seconds later. I tried opening Lenovo Vantage today and there was an error. Windows store reccomended that I reinstall it which I'm doing now but the download has been stuck at 444.1 kb. This computer is still under warrenty, but the abnormaly long boot times is starting to affect my productivty. Lastly I will point out that the computer sometimes shuts off when I close is which isnt normal, instead of waking when opening the computer I have to wait  roughly 5 minutes for the loginscreen before I can do anything. I truly loved Lenono products until now.  We bought a Lenovo Yoga 3 14. 2 weeks into the  use, it went to sleep or died and would not come back. We could nto reset it, hard boot it or anything (even tech support was stumped).  Our replacement was shipped and two weeks later, again it wont boot. So the questions. It said 63% battery at night. We plugged it in over night. In the morning, the power button would not start the machine. When plugged in, the battery light is a constant white. When unplugged, the battery light goes out. The power button, when plugged in, stays light but the power button light flashes and goes off. no combination of anything will get it to boot (like the last one).  1. Has anyone experienced this? 2. Is there a real hard boot/reset option?3. What in the heck could we have done to have the same thing happen to two machines? I am calling Lenovo tomorrow to get my money back, but I have searched google and here and have not see anyone with this problem (exactly) and even the close ones are not the same.  Help?!?!?!Don

Hi, I recently purchased the Lenovo Yoga 330-11IGM and I would like to install Linux because of work. Created a Ubuntu USB Live Stick, tested it in my previous laptop, disabled secure boot and fast boot, enter bios, set boot priority and ready to go. After setting the boot priority, the laptop restarts and when it's going to show the UEFI Ubuntu Menu just like how it's supposed to be, it's not. All I got was a Lenovo logo, and an underscore cursor in the top-left edge of the screen. Tried typing something, didn't work. I thought this was probably because of BIOS mode, so I thought I can change it to Legacy. But guess what? Only UEFI is available.  Can somebody helped me through this because my work is relying on Linux, and I hate how Windows Subsystem Linux behave. Thank you

I have recently purchased a Yogo 500 which has been refurbished by Lenovo. Everything seems fine once it's up and running but it seems to take an age to boot up past the Lenovo logo. I end up with a black screen and my curser shows a blue circle. This can last a good 3 or 4 minutes. I have the i5 version with 8gb RAM and a 8gb SSD alonside a regular HDD. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolved this? I do have a spare SSD I could pop in but I'm not exactly sure how I go about doing that... or if it would help? Many thanksStuart

Hi jimmisavage ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

On slow booting system , testing how it behaves on safe mode can help check if add on programs are causing this along with running diagnostics.  If no hardware issue detected on the test , then you may proceed checking with windows update if there are any process running in the background like installation and update.

Using another account such as local administrator  instead of a microsoft account isolates any Microsoft features and software usually synched with Microsoft Store applications can help.

Clean boot can make boot up faster by disabling non essential programs everytime you restart. Some would even disable hibernate to speed it up and likewise increase data space specially if you do not really need to use such feature.

Hope this helps answer your query.
Update us how things go.

Regards

Was prompted to update the bios.  During restart the system never rebooted.  It's now in a state where no screen or sound comes.  Just a flash of the keyboard backlight, red i light, and green fn light.  Any suggestion how to bring it back to life?

My Yoga 14 ( Type 20FY) cannot boot anymore.  It was fine in the morning, but refused to boot afternoon after being shipped around on a luggage cart.  Now it only lights up the keyboard after power on, and then does nothing, no Lenovo logo, no beep to signal any error. I had tried the following methods to no avail, draining out onboard battery, pushing the emergency reset hole, disconnecting onboard battery and CMOS battery.  Every time it failed to boot after reconnecting it with AC power.  I also connected it with external monitor over hdmi, but nothing to show up after boot it up. The machine is configured with multi-boot to several Linux flavors and Windows 10, so I am knowledgeable to be quite sure it is not a software problem.  Please help me!

My Yoga was powered on, I was logged in, and the screen was locked. I left my office for a minute and when I returned, it was at the "Lenovo" boot screen (white text on black background). I don't know if it auto-updated or something, but now I can't get it to do anything. I've tried various combinations of holding down the power button and hitting the "Novo" key, but the only two things I can make it do is power completely off or show me this screen. It won't get far enough in the boot process to allow me to boot to my recovery USB. I've had it less than two weeks.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hey Guys,Im trying to get a laptop working for my brother. He has a Yoga 500-14IBD. The laptop works perfectly fine with the current hard drive running windows 10.He has been sent out a new hard drive which has been preloaded with windows 10 but adapted with specialised software (which shouldn't be too important for the issue).I installed the new hard drive into the Laptop and it won't boot past the Windows Boot Manager. The laptop does recognise the Hard drive and see's it is connected but wont boot into it. Where it gets weird is that I tried this hard drive in my other Lenovo T420 Laptop and it boots into the hard drive no problems. This rules out hard ware issues. Is there something which needs to be adjusted in the BIOS to allow the Yoga to boot up into this hard drive? I have tried switching from UEFI Mode or Legacy BIOS mode but this didnt make any real difference. There was an error showing in Legacy mode regarding PXE-E61 Media Test Failure Error but this occurred when the laptop worked in my T420 so it shouldnt be related.  I have tested another Windows 10 installation Hard drive on the Yoga (the one from my T420) and it worked. Just a note the hard drive that isnt working is not and SSD but the ones which are working are SSD'sAny advice would be appreciated

We're trying to re-image all 250 of our Lenovo Yoga 260's using SCCM. Since we're not sure if our previous captured image is clean, we're imaging with the Windows 10 1803 WIM file from the ISO. This works on all of our Dell's and the Yoga 12's, but not the Yoga 260's. We try to add the tp_yoga260_w1064_201710 SCCM driver pack, but either way, after imaging, it blue-screens on the first boot after imaging, then when starting up with logging, it says:"The operating system couldn't be loaded because a critical system driver is missing or contains errors:File: \WINDOWS\System32\drivers\AtiPcie.sysError code: 0xc0000359" I'm also getting a red X when trying to import the entire driver pack, but when I leave out the camera driver, it imports fine. (I've tried imaging without the camera driver--same result.) Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.

Hello. I'm having a substandard issue with my Lenovo Yoga Laptop that I will try to explain in complete detail. First I'll summarize what's going on, then I'll list all  the details that could be related to this problem, no matter how small, in order of most likely related to least likely related. I'm an IT technician so I have some grasp of computer troubleshooting, just keep in mind. Alright, so the issue is that my Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga (can't find exact model, label only days Yoga and its dated in 2013) will not boot into Windows 10 after I have done an upgrade from Windows 8.1 using Microsoft's media creation tool. More specifically, I was able to do the firat time setup and boot on once but after searching for Windows updates and restarting, the computer will not boot on. The most likely reason for this I believe is that the laptop doesn't recognize the SSD with Windows 10 on it. It can detect it in some ways but not others. In Lenovo diagnostics I'm not able to run a storage test, which is an option I know is usually there because I've troubleshooted these before, which leads me to believe it doesn't recognize it. However, boot menu and BIOS recognize the drive. Attempting to boot to it from boot menu gives a long black screen and then it takes me back to boot menu. Letting my computer boot up normally also gives a long black screen after the ThinkPad logo and the automatically goes to boot menu. The other diagnostics for Lenovo hardware all pass. So some...
