Does Thinkpad T580 power adpater use USB Power Delivery?

Q: Does Thinkpad T580 power adpater use USB Power Delivery?

I've read in this post that Thinkpad T580 supports USB Power Delivery in both it's USB-C ports. Does this mean that the AC power adapter is also comaptible with USB PD? Can I use it to hcarge other USB PD devices?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Yoga S1 has contradictory, intermittent power issues that I'm trying to chase down. Culprits are bad power bric/cord/plug or power socket on mother board or power board that feeds into power button/led on. One day it blacked out and wouldn't restart to hard drive or windows stage. I did get an error code which I can't remember 5100 or 5500 poss?, that seemed to indicate the power board or ribbons to that needed replacement or re-attachment. So fiddled with it and it did fire up in windows all ok. Then ran out of power and died again. power button wouldn't light up. plugging in power unit did light up led as getting charge. Left it overnight and then it miraculously charged up. pushed power button light up twice then nothing. took out power board/detached ribbon, then it fired up to windows, fixed some hd errors and has been restarting without problems. Except now there is no plug showing on battery icon when plugged in. So not recharging but I'm sure the battery is good. And logically, the power brick and plug must be feeding electricity into laptop to get it to recharge enough to start up. So power socket and plug may be suspect with intermittent contact problems. Or the power board somehow is involved in this? I've ordered a new powerboard as easy screw in and cheap. My question about powerboard is does this control ability of plug to charge battery? power brick with new plug is next order from ebay. but the power socket, which see... First, are you still under warranty?  (Some are)  Check here:
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/warrantylookup

If you are under warranty, don't mess with things; call support.  In U.S. it's 1-800-426-7378

Assuming no warranty, if it were mine, I would try to reset things.  Pull the bottom cover and remove the main battery.  Disconnect the coin-cell (CMOS) battery and press the power button a few times to drain capacitors.  Put it back together and plug it in.  See if it is alive again.  DON'T DO THIS IF YOU HAVE A BIOS PASSWORD THAT YOU DON'T KNOW.

Hello, my T500 does not turn on, no lights are lit, battery not charging. I tried to turn in the dock, but nothing. I tried to insert a fully charged battery but nothing too. Will probably be something wrong with the motherboard, maybe some fuse, but do not know where to look. Thanks for help

I have mostly used the Lenovo T series laptops.  At times I would have to unplug the power cord, pull the battery and push down on the power button to discharge power.  When lenoved came out wid models like the T480s that had a built in battery, they added a pin hole on the bottom that would simulate pulling the battery.  I can not locate any pinholes on the Lenovo L580.  Is there a way to discharge the power or simulate pulling that battery on this model?

When reading the specifications for the P52 (not the "s" variant) Lenovo states that the usb-c port is power delivery capable. What does that mean for the P52? Has anyone tried to charge the laptop over usb-c?  I know that the usb-c power delivery spec has 100w as upper limit and that it therefore wont be able to charge the laptop under full load. However I frequently move between offices and on some places there are usb-c monitors available which means I could hook up my laptop and do some light work (and charge the laptop while having lunch). I know that Philips monitors can charge Dell XPS 15 (and therefore Precision 5530). I think those monitors outputs 60W or so. Right now I'm having a discusion with myself regarding which computer to get next and the convenience of not having to carry heavy power bricks with me is quite temppting.

I have a ThinkPad L480 running Windows 10 1803 with the latest update (KB4489894). It has the latest BIOS (1.31) and is in "OS Optimized" mode (i.e. Secure Boot enabled, etc.) When I power it on from a shut down state, the power and Fn key lights light up but nothing appears on the screen. The power and Fn key lights remain illuminated for 38 seconds and then turn off again. If I press and release the power button, press and hold the power button until the lights go off, then press and release again, then the computer starts up normally. I've tried re-loading the BIOS defaults but that didn't help. Any suggestions for other things to try?

A:ThinkPad L480 will not power on without a force power off

When you say you power up from a "shut down state:, are you referring to resuming from sleep (closing the lid, or pressing the power button (if power button is configured to put system to sleep), or had you previously done a complete shutdown using the Start Menu >>Shutdown method?     I ask because what you describe sound similar to what happens when a system fails to properly enter sleep mode, and thus requires a full reboot.     That is usually caused by a devices failing to enter a low power state and causing a BSOD, so if you think it might be sleep mode related, update all your drivers, including VPN software if installed, to the latest versions. The latest version of Windows 10 is also version 1809  build 17763.379, so are you running Windows 10 Pro, and not allowing Windows updates, or are you running Windows 10 Home and Windows Updates are failing. Best of luck,

Hi,I have tried charging my laptop with a 60W PD rated charger, supplying 20V at 3A, and with a Razer Switch 45W PD charger, but nothing charges other than the Lenovo charger. Theoretically, any Power Delivery charger supplying at least 2.25A at 20V should be compatible, just like the said Razer charges with all of the chargers mentioned.  More interestingly, my L380 Yoga also recognizes a 10W charger, when I charge it with 5V chargers.Could anyone tell me why PD chargers would not be compatible with the L380 (unlike 910, X1), even though it is clearly PD compatible in the official specifications?

Hello - I am looking to standardize on the new HP Spectre 13-v-21nr at my company.  My question relates to the USB Type-C port and power delivery.  When the Spectre is in UFP mode (Power source, powering an external USB type-C device), which power delivery profiles are supported?   The new USB 3.1 power delivery spec provides the following profiles and I am most interested in understanding which profiles are supported by this new laptop.  The power-delivery spec allows for a maximum voltage of 20 V (4 the previous 5-V spec) and a maximum current of 5 A (more than 3 the previous max of 1.5 A). The power-delivery spec also classifies power sources in terms of profiles:? Profile 1 (Default Startup): 10 W (5 V @ 2 A)? Profile 2: 18 W (5 V @ 2 A -> 12 V @ 1.5A)? Profile 3: 36 W (5V @ 2 A -> 12 V @ 3A)? Profile 4 (Micro B/AB limit): 60 W (5 V @ 2 A -> 20 V @ 3 A)? Profile 5 (Standard B/AB limit): 100 W (5 V @ 2 A -> 20 V @ 5 A)

Hi,I got and AUKEY PB-XD20 with USB PD (Power Delivery) 12V 1,5A - 18W.When I connect it to my yoga it charges it for few seconds than disconnects. Repeating the cycle over and over. The thing is - when I turned Yoga off and leave it connected to this power bank time the % of the battery is going up.When Yoga is up, after few cycles it gets crazy and hangs - forcing me to restart it. Can someone at Lenovo take a look into it and allow to charge it with some lower wattage while off? I do not want to break anything, but this cycle is probably worse than constant power delivery.

Hi there,  I've been experiencing issues with both Thinkpad T580's and 5th/6th Gen X1 Carbons. Basically any model that has USB-C/Thunberbolt connectivity.  I have had users report that their laptops either connected to their docking station or power adaptor  do not charge. Windows reports "Plugged in, Not charging", and power drops. The dock does not appear to work, external screens, network etc.  When disconnected from the power source or dock, the orange power light on the left site where the USB-C connector is stays on. This is the light that comes on when charging. When the laptop is shut down, the same orange light stays on.  The work around I've found is to go into the BIOS, Power settings, Disconnect the internal battery. (External battery needs to be removed for the T series). After selecting this, the laptop powers off and the orange charging light goes out. Once reconnected to a power source, the laptop will power on, work with the dock and properly charge.  I have encountered this on multiple T580's and multiple X1 Carbons. I've attempted to run the System Update utility (excellent app btw) and made sure BIOS and Thunderbolt firmware etc is up to date, yet the issue still persists. Logging into the BIOS and disconnecting the internal battery is not a viable solution.  Is there a solution for this, and are Lenovo aware of this issue?  Thanks,Adam

My T580 suddenly one day stopped reading my external USB-C hard drive, I tried updating the drivers and several other suggested repairs with none of them working. The power light on the drive would come on but the computer didn't read it, verified with a second drive and they both work on my other computers. Looking at the timeline, I realized that this happened while the computer was still within it's warranty period, but I was busy and just let the problem go. Then two weeks later the computer just shut down on me and after letting it sit with the lid closed for a while, it was able to restart and I got a warning message at the BIOS screen that "The Power Adapter is of lower wattage than the one supplied with the machine" or something along those lines. Once booted up I was able to see that battery nuber one was fully depleted to 2% and the 2nd battery was at 99%, it then shut down on me again. I ordered a replacement power adapter to test and got the same message and the same symptoms, the computer would basically trickle charge at a rate slower than it consumed power, at this point I finally called customer service and started a repair ticket, this is when they told me that the computer was three weeks out of warranty....I send it in and a week later recieve a repair estimate of $589 to replace the whole motherboard. I called right back and complained that this computer was having problems before the warranty was up and was simply told it was out of warran... Hi geminihc!

Thanks for posting in our community

As per checking, this model Yoga 720 does not have power delivery (a protocol specification which supports power delivery up to 100W of power while transmitting data in a single cable. It's designed to be a more universal charging standard that allows a range of devices (not just smartphones) to charge quickly over a USB connection) reason why the phone will not charge. You may check the product specifications in this link as well https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/Lenovo%20Tablets%20_%20Convertibles/Yoga%20720%20(15_)/Yoga...

My T580 won't wake from sleep mode if I close the lid, press the power button, or tell Windows to enter sleep mode. The power button and lid lights pulse like they do when in sleep mode, but I can still toggle the mute/caps lock/num lock/backlight lights on my keyboard. The fan is usually at full speed too. In order to get the laptop to turn on, I have to either use the reset button on the back, or hold the power button for 20 seconds. I haven't observed the issue while the laptop is plugged in. I can't afford to lose any work that I have open, or wait for all my programs to load, but I've never enountered this behaviour so I can't fix it. If it's a Windows 10 issuse, then I have to re-install the OS. I'd like to avoid doing that if the issue is with the laptop. What do I do?

Hello everyone, ? It's been a year since I bought a ThinkPad X280. Yesterday night, I plugged my phone to charge and close the lid before going to bed, while forgetting my phone still left plugged. The only problem is that: it does NOT charge! I tested on this USB port another phone, and on a different operating system : same problem.I tested the second USB port on my laptop, everything work just fine.I believe that this is a hardware problem. Has anyone encountered this probkem before ? How should I solve it ? ?? NB. As a personnal note, I may say that I am highly disappointed by ThinkPad products. My first ThinkPad was a X1 (1st gen.) and every year, something just suddenly broke: keyboard press key, fan, motherboard, SD card reader. I had hoped that this was due to this product line and decided to buy a brand new X280 to give a new start of my opinion on this product. I must say that I am highly disappointed as my laptop is just 1 year old and that I barely use it anywhere else than home. The product quality is bad. I am not sure I will continue buying ThinkPad in the future...

A:IBM Thinkpad sometimes won't power up

Does it not power up at all or is it just not loading? If it's not starting up it could be your battery or your ac adapter is going bad. If it is just not loading it could be several things, the first one that comes to mind is your HD may be going bad.
I have a TP 600e and I've been through alot with it but it has been pretty easy to fix.

I am thinking I may have shorted something when I removed the battery. I have another practically identical laptop and have tried swapping hard drives, etc. to no avail.

Hi, I read this blog post regarding Power Bridge.  I have the X250 with an internal 3-cell battery and an external 6-cell battery.  Windows 10 recognises both batteries.  The Lenovo Settings application recognises both batteries as well and indicates that both are in good condition.  When I take out the external battery, the laptop switches off.  The internal battery definitely works, because I tried the laptop on the internal battery only.  The thing is that one of the battery latches (not the one where you have to keep holding it to release the battery but the other one) broke, so the battery is not secured correctly.  It still works and mostly stays in but sometimes some movement might disloge the battery just slightly from the connector which results in the laptop switching off.  So if power bridge worked, this would't be a problem I think. Updated the bios to version 1.17 from 1.15. Thanks The X250 Specs:Core i7-5600U1920x1080 display8GB RAM256GB SSD

Good Afternoon,
I have an IBM ThinkPad laptop that I have possessed since 2006. I am satisfied with it. I like to take it to internet cafes or bars that have WiFi etc. It has by & large served me well.

However, I have a recurring problem. I am not PC savvy so bear with me. From time to time, it powers out by itself sometimes after a mere few minutes. I don't understand this phenomenon. My battery seems fine. There is a power indicator so I don't think it's the battery. Maybe it needs replacing? But, while that is frustrating (seems the only way I can power up again is by removing the battery and reinstalling it) then it takes another 10 mins or so to operate. Anyway, the real frustration is at home when I have the PC powered by AC. It powers out while the plug is in! Granted, it is rare but it happens and I think it shouldn't. That, I can't figure out.

Now I think I take care of my PC and don't overuse it. I don't spend more than 2 hours on it a day. I spray air into the orifices to "dust" it. I have installed anti-virus software into it. I think it works well.

Anyway, any advice on first, what my problem is and how to remedy it, is most appreciated.
Cheers,
Larry in Seattle

First off, I am an Electronics Technician by trade.  I have 25 years of experience with all kinds of electronics.  This one has me scratching my head.  This all  started because I had an issue with my touchpad so I changed it out.  During the process I removed all power including, power cord, external battery and internal battery.  Replaced the mouse pad and put everything back together.  When I went to power it up I got no response.  Here are the things I have tried. 1. Hold the power button for a minute.  Tap it 10 times then hold anothe minute.2. Remove all batteries and press the power button for 1 minute.3. Remove all batteries and the RAM module and press the power button.4. Press the reset button through the cover on the back of the machine.   5. Lastly I disconnected the CMOS batter along with all other power.  The last step actually let me me boot up my machine and everything was working like normal.  I was happy I had fixed the problem, but I didn't.  Once I shut down the machine it still will not power back up.  I have to disconnect the CMOS battery again in order for me to powe up the machine.  Once the machine comes back I updated the BIOS to the latest version and that didn't help either.  I am stumped!  Any advice that anyone can give me is greatly appreciated.

A:Thinkpad T440s won't power up

It sounds like the power button.  Make sure the little cable is inserted all the way and is straight.  Also, the little board with the actual button might not be mounted correctly.

My ThinkPad yoga 12 turned off suddenly, and now it doesn't turn back on. Despite being plugged in the led doesn't light up to show that it's charging, but does flash 3 times occasionally after being plugged in. It's almost certainly not a dead battery.W  I hold down the power button for more than a few seconds and release the power button the LED lights up for 3 or so seconds and then turns off, but no other response from the computer.  I've disconnected and reconnected the battery and the hard drive with no luck. The other thread in this forum with this problem just says that they returned their computer for a warranty repair and it was marked as solved, not very helpful.
