Can data techs see the individual files in a dmg file?

Q: Can data techs see the individual files in a dmg file?

The drive on my MacBook failed recently and I really need to get my data back. I am hesitant to take my hard drive in for repair/recovery for fear that, somehow, the techs will be able to see the individual files in a dmg file I keep on my laptop. They will be extracting data by taking my drive apart (to bypass bad sectors?), rather than by just using software. What do Dmg files look like from a tech's perspective? Can they see file names? Preview images? Or, will they simply see a dmg file? Thanks for your time!

Preferred Solution: Can data techs see the individual files in a dmg file?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My wedding photographer put all of the pictures she took on four disks, two of them are importing correctly, but two of them show data on the disks, but no individual JPG files. I tried importing through windows live photo gallery and finding through my computer, I also tried the open folder to view files, everything says there are no picture files on this disk, even though we have viewed them using another computer.

A:CD shows data, but not individual picture files

Welcome to the TSG forum.

Photographers own the rights to print the pictures .. And usually don't give you the readable Images that the camera took.
They probably have proprietary software to read the pictures ..
The discs you can't read are probably what you'd take to get them printed.
The images you can see .. Are low resolution copies that probably won't make good prints ..For previews only.

They don't want you to print them yourself or have anyone else do it ..They want to charge you.
What's the extension (file type) of the data files in the Disc that you can't view ???

I have a problem with a program not saving preset data. Possibly due to harlink extenstion with only one piece of software.

I use symbolic hardlinks on my system but I do not know if the following has any bearing on the issue with the software I am using.

The software is a plugin that works within a host digital audio workstation software (Steinberg Cubase and plugin Soundtoys V5) and uses presets for different settings.

All software is legit and registered. I have contacted the developer regarding the issue with no resolve so trying here as the issue may largely be to do with windows.

The associate plugin has been installed with admin permissions and the host DAW software is run with full administrative rights. I have double checked that there are no hardlink main or subfolders used in the installation path for the plugin software.

All other 3rd party plugins work fine when saving presets and using symbolic links of which there's about 60+ 3rd party plugins installed using the main host system, however this particular software is not saving correctly.

It will save the preset name as a zero byte file and reports unable to save at location.

All other plugins work fine even when using symbolic links when saving preset data.

The issue may have been to do with a previous install of the soundtoys software as a phantom install directory is being created during the installation

A:Data files not saving correctly [File names but zero byte files]

If you can select the save location, try saving to a different folder or on your desktop. It could be access right issue. I would find the specific folder, right-click on it, select Properties and then click the Security tab. To make sure there is no access restriction, I would add the user Everyone and give him (as well all the others) full access, just in case.

Here's my situation: I've been working on an Access 97 app to assist in finding various properties in an external database. It's easy to check all the fields in the tables and their properties (the better to spot inconsistent data types, etc) but I'm having trouble doing the same with forms. For any given field I want the user to see what forms use that field in a control, but I can't seem to find a way to iterate through each form's controls and check its record source the way I can iterate tables or queries (For Each thisField in thisTableDef.Fields, etc).

Can anyone help me out? I'm real pleased with the way the rest of the app is going, and this is kind of annoying.

A:Finding individual data sources for controls on a form

I have to experiment with this, but I believe that in order to view a forms controls, the form must be open. Once the form is open you should be able to go through it's controls using 'For each Thiscontrol in Forms!frmMyForm.controls'. In fact you could probably loop through all open forms using a nested loop.

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">code:</font><HR><pre>
for each ThisForm in Forms
for each ThisControl in ThisForm.Controls

If already know this and it's still not working, how are you trying to go through the controls? What happens when you try?

Good Morning guys,

This is my first post on Tech Support Forums!

I am not to sure how much help I can be to people here other than building gaming Rigs, so I will keep one eye on that forum to see if I can add value here.

Now, on to my question!

I have assembled an Excel spreadsheet with hundreds of lines of date. (Business Name, Address, Contact Number, Email, Website). We have a CRM system which does not allow me to enter new clients myself, so i have to complete a CRM Request form for each potential client on this list (over 600) The CRM request form is a Word Document with sections for each part of the data on excell.

The problem is, I am too lazy to copy and past all of the lines of data into individual CRM Request Forms (Word Documents)

So in short... correct me if I am wrong. I think I need to create some form of macro to do this for me. (copy data from excell, open up the word document, paste the data in the specific places, then save it, then repeat for the next line of data)

It would be greatly appreciated if you could point me in the right direction on this one people.

Kind Regards,

Hi All,

I have a workbook consisting of 10 worksheets. First three worksheets contains Pivot Table, which gets the data from 4th, 5th and 6th worksheets. 4th, 5th and 6th worksheets gets the data (using a web query) from an external CSV file. I want to have a "Refresh Data" on the fist sheet, which is when clicked, refreshes the external data and the pivot tables in the following sequence :-
Refresh the data on 4th Sheet.
Refresh the data on 5th Sheet.
Refresh the data on 6th Sheet.
Refresh the Pivot Tables on 1st sheet.
Refresh the Pivot Tables on 2nd sheet.
Refresh the Pivot Tables on 3rd sheet.

I used "ThisWorkbook.RefreshAll", but it refreshes the data in one go, not in the required sequence. I also tried "Sheets(index).Calculate" for different sheets, but it does not refreshes the external data.

Any help in writing the macro/subroutine to achieve this functionality would be highly appreciated.

I recently bought Star Wars the Original Radio Drama on audiobook. I want to copy/rip this into mp3 files so I can listen to them on my phone and/or mp3 player. I have windows 8.1 and using media player to rip them. However, the problem occurs when I insert the second disc and media player starts ripping the cd without changing the names of the tracks. I didn't notice this until I was on the third disc. Now I have multiple versions with the same title and haven't been able to tell them apart other than deleting them.

I'd like to do this with each disc its own titles, etc. I don't want to do this via iTunes, which every online website gives as the way to do this. I also don't want them in one large file. I'd like to find a stopping point now and then. Any help, including ink to different programs that will work, would be helpful.

Where can I get specific individual .dll files? How difficult is it to update a .dll file?

I have been downloading and running various .dll repair programs that claim to fix everything. Unfortunately, none of these programs have fixed or replaced the .dll files my System File Checker lists as corrupted and not reprojectable.

I am looking fo these specific files used by Windows Defender in Windows 7:

I have never manually installed a .dll file, but I learn quickly and know how to follow directions. Can someone point me to a "how-to" instruction list for replacing corrupted .dll files? Is it a relatively simple task once I have good .dll files? I would rather not have to pay $200 to someone like the Best Buy Geek Squad just to make what hopefully are minor system changes. Any advice is appreciated.

A:Where can I get specific individual .dll files?

You can extract them from the win 7 install media,

Extract Files from Windows 7 Installation DVD

If you don't have one you can download one here,

Windows 7 Direct Download Links, Official Disk Images from Digital River

I just used 7-Zip and found those files in the install.wim, you have to grab the right folder once inside but it's all explained in the tutorial.

Is it possible to assign individual files to a library? So far, I have only found a way to put a folder in a library and when I do that the entire file list for that folder appears in the library.

Libraries are virtual folders not virtual files so to answer your question, no. Instead maybe use a symbolic link (made with mklink with the command line) and link the file in a certain folder. Or just put it in a folder already set to the library.

I have many .wpd document files which I need to prepare for transfer to an Apple computer. Corel, the word processing program I've always used, gives me a number of options for changing the file format. Does anyone know which format would give me the best chance for Appleworks to open these files after I transfer them? Apple is running OS X, and the PC I am transferring data from is running Windows 98 first edition with a Corel program that's about ten years old. Or am I dreaming here, and need to accept that these files are history?

A:Converting file format of wpd files for data transfer

Not sure about this, but OpenOffice (openoffice.org) may be able to assist. It gives you plently of different formats to save/open as. I am not a Mac user so I don't know for sure, but it may be worth giving a look.

Also, if these files are not something you need to change you could always convert them to pdf's and keep them.

And what about rich text - do Mac's read that?

I have played around with the backup functionality; I know how to backup a system image. What I cannot figure out is how to backup individual files; when I configure the backup and drilling down into the folders, the individual files are not shown.

In XP, I backup my Outlook .pst every day (I work from home so this is important). I had a NTBACKUP job set that would backup only the .pst file every day...no problem to set up.

When trying to configure W7 backup I can drill down to C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook but the only thing that's shown in the Outlook checkbox window is "Accounts."

The .pst is not in Accounts, it's in the root of the Outlook folder.

How can I configure the backup utility to be more granular? Thanks for the help.

I have a shortcut to my HOSTS file on my desktop for ease of access because I edit it regularly.

However, little mischievous people may go into this if I am not on my computer and be a pain. Therefore, I want a way of protecting it from opening up in it's main application.

I don't really need it to be sophisticated, it is not to prevent hackers etc, it is merely to stop people having instant access to it from my desktop.

I doubt there is any built-in feature of windows, therefore what third-party applications can do this?

A:Password protect individual files

just create your own account and keep them in your documents folder. nobody will have access as long as they do not have admin privileges. or keep them on a flash drive. I would strongly urge you not to password protect individual files because you could forget the password and lose access to the files. this forum is full of locked threads because of users wanting help with forgotten passwords when they were trying to protect files.

I have been working on this for YEARS, and still have not found a way to fix the file.

FACTS ABOUT THE FILE: I STILL can't repair this file... here are the details....

~ The file is from a camcorder using mini-dvd's, of my wedding. All other dvds work properly, this one doesn't play through the file.

~ The mini dvd is in physically working condition, and I have no problem copying the .vob file.

~ the .vob file is about 1gb

~ If I try playing it in any video player (tried many) it never gets past the first 2-3 seconds, and then freezes.

~ In VLC media player, it recognizes the video is 14:12 long... but still only plays the first 2-3 seconds.

I will do anything to get this fixed!

I uploaded the entire dvd to google drive.

The main file is VTS_01_1.VOB You can see it plays the first few seconds in VLC player, and then freaks out.

A:Vob file data/video recovery help!?! (link to files in thread)

Does the disc play properly in a DVD player or in the PC itself?

If not, the disc/files are toast. Depending on file type, basic file information such as length, is stored in the file header. So just because VLC knows the playtime, doesn't mean the file is useable.

Also, in my experience, if it doesn't play in VLC, 99.99999999% of the time, the file is toast.

having said that, I will take a look.

I can't get rid of CyberDefender or MyIdentityDefender. I don't like it because it severely limits the information that comes up on the web to choose from. +backups for my primary hd
+tv shows

+personal movie collection used for editting
I have found that certain files cause windows explorer to crash - be they movies, tv shows, installer files, files on backup, etc. - when highlighted and cause Dr. Watson to go bonkers. There seems to be no connection: files with similar sources, extensions, sizes, use dates, names, pathnames, etc. seem to work fine. In all there are just over 20,000 files, of which maybe 30 cause this problem. It is possible in transfers they were just simply improperly transferred (causing pieces of the file to be lost forever), but there is a file I KNOW that happened to and Dr. Watson never went bonkers and Explorer never crashed when I selected it; it was an .avi of "Beetlejuice" whose transfer was terminated before completion, and all it does when selected is simply not play in WMP. I just joined and looking forward to learning.

I just realized today that there will be files I have now or will be creating, consisting of "Office" Kingsoft Office, digital photographs, etc., files which I would prefer not to have my name showing in the file properties information, such as what's shown in properties>details>author. System administrator, PC's model name administrator, etc., include my name. My name is spelled there the same as what's shown during the windows 7 logon screen when it asks for the password.

I've had this PC for a few years and I assume I set what my administrator name is when I first set it up. I also assume every file I ever created since has my name shown in it that way. Security issues being what they are today, this may not be a good idea so I want to change my name in the file properties or even better, not have any name at all. I'd also rather be able to do this individually on a file by file basis for some files I may send to people I don't know well or their security habits.

How do I change or remove my name from file properties information?

Thank you.

A:How to rename author in individual file properties.

In the properties under details there should be an option that removes all that information...

However, not currently at a computer to see myself.

hi. ive done a bunch of digging on my own and found some applications which let you do this. (third party, apparently windows thinks allowing their users to color code files is HORRIBLE. **** knows why). im currently about to check out xyfolder, but im not sure if it will be the same as rainbow folders (another i checked out). rainbow folders only lets u change the color of your folders. i dont care about that i want to change the color of the text of individual file names.

the reason i want to do this is because i dj. it will make selecting different songs out of a collection of a few hundred MUCH easier. i can color code the tracks which are stand out amazing as a certain color and different styles of music another color and etc. it will help me SO much.

what kind of ap can i use to do this? (unless theres some secret way anyone knows of to just let win7 allow u to do this on your own?)

A:Color Code Individual File Names

There are easier ways to organise; you could use multiple folders.
Change the icon to different tracks- your most popular tracks could use a star as their icon, and so forth.

Different genres would be better suited in different folders?

I haven't run into this problem before, but honestly, this is the first time I am attempting to transfer files so large (I was able to transfer files labeled as .99 gig with no problem). There is about 14 gigs of space left on the external drive. I tried some other large files that I had, about 2 gig, and they wouldn't transfer either. I am thinking there is a size limitation for an individual file? Any quick ideas? Thanks!

A:Individual file will not copy- size limitation?

FAT32 has an absolute file size limitation of 4gigs, so I suspect that's how the drive is formatted. In My Computer, right click on the drive in question and select Properties. It will tell you if it's formatted FAT32 or NTFS.

Windows 10 Bug Causes Data Loss on Android When Copying Files with File Explorer

A bug in Windows 10 causes files copied from one location to another on a PC-connected Android device to vanish completely if the built-in file manager File Explorer is used for the operation.

The issue affects only files that are being moved or copied from an Android folder or storage device to another location on the same Android phone or tablet using an MTP or PTP USB connection, and doesn?t seem to impact copying data on a Windows 10 PC.

So basically, if you connect an Android device to a Windows 10 PC and try to move files with File Explorer from the phone to an SD card or vice-versa, this will result in your data vanishing completely. The transfer appears to be working, but the files do not end up being moved to the destination folder, with no recovery possible for the time being.

The bug has already been confirmed on Windows 10, with both Windows 7 and Windows 8 working correctly. Also, several Android phones appear to be affected, including OnePlus and LG models, Google?s Nexus and Pixel, HTC U11, Nokia phones, and several Xiaomi and Sony models. On the other hand, Samsung?s and BlackBerry?s devices are working correctly, user reports indicate.

Just copy data to the PC and you?re safe
While Microsoft hasn?t yet acknowledged the bug, the easiest way to avoid any data loss is to create a backup that would allow you to restore files at any given time.

And since the issue ... Read more

I have an old album that I copied from my original cassette tape. The tape was showing signs of wear. The software that I used at the time copied the entire album into one long file. Is there any software that will recopy this and break the album up into the individual songs on the album. The album is an old Golden Earring album. Am I going to have to use NERO 8 and copy the entire album one song at a time to a new folder?

I'm using Windows Home Premium x64, and I want to delete a single file from a backup created by system protection. When I open a restore point, It takes me to an address like "\\localhost\C$\@GMT-2012.03.14-xx.xx.xx" I can see and open all of the files on that folder, such as like play videos from it, but I cannot delete anything from it. When I try to access the folder through disk management, access is denied. how do I go about deleting individual files from the backups?

A:How do I delete individual files created by system protection?

Hello Bhootnat, and welcome to Seven Forums.

A restore point is different than a backup. You will not be able to delete a specific file included in a restore point. Any attempt to mess with a restore point like that would most likely end with the restore point no longer able to be selected to be used when doing a system restore.

Instead, you could only delete specific restore points if you like.

Is there a faster way to password-protect folders than the ones I already know, such as AxCrypt or putting in a zip with 7Zip? I have a lot of huge files and it would take too long.

I do NOT need powerful encryption for these particular files. No hacker is ever going to get them; it's only to keep out my roommates who use my account on my computer. For various reasons setting up separate accounts is not an option.

I"m wondering if there's some way that's not as secure as AxCrypt because that's overkill for me but would still add a password and do it quicker.

A:Faster way to password-protect individual files/folders

I have installed software that can encrypt/ decrypt individual files/ folders or multiple files/ folders. It's pretty easy to use via drag/ drop folders/ files that you want to encrypt (accepts multiples) or select via right click context menu.

Right click a file/ folder to encrypt/ decryptDrag 'n' Drop multiples to encrypt/ decryptEncryted files have .pcr extensionIf you use the main program window to decrypt files or multiple files it totally and permanently removes encryption and restores the default file extension.

If you decrypt via click and open - you are asked for a password to open the file and it remains encrypted when you close the file.

Is it possible to resotre individual files from a full Image Backup? I Created a System Image. If this is possible, how is it done?

A:Can you restore individual files from Full Image backup

You certainly can with commercial products like Acronis, but I don't know about the Windows product. I would guess you can--if you can't, that would be a major shortcoming.

My Mom just got a new HP Desktop computer with Windows Vista Home Premium installed. It has been fairly easy for me to figure out how to delete all cookies, temp internet files and history. My Mom wishes to be able to select which cookies and which temp. internet files to delete and which to keep. How does one do this in VIsta? She would also like to get to this point via clicking on a cookies icon set up on her desktop. How can I set this up for her? I know XP to some extent not Vista. Help! Please! Seriously!

I also found a Vista compatibility listing ( find.pcworld.com/56584 ) in PC World magazine relating to a patch that will allow the running of older software and games within Vista. Do you have any experience or tales relating to this? My Mom has a number of older Mah-jong games.

Thank you!

Currently on my Mac laptop I have Mac OS X Version 10.6.2 and FireFox 3.6. I'm currently taking temp video files which I find at this location (Users>Library>Caches>FireFox>Profiles>v7ecbfka.default>Cache) and change their name and add a .avi suffix and save and play them on my Mac providing the file is under 20 megs. If it is over 20 + megs the files goes back to about about 37K bits when it finished downloading? Why does this happen and is their a way change FireFox so I can save larger than 20 meg video on FireFox Temp files?

Evening folks. I've got a problem with my niece's laptop which I think is probably too far gone to resolve, but I'd appreciate any advice from you experts as to whether it really is the end of the line for the data. She contacted me a few days for advice as to whether her machine was totally broken as it she couldn't do anything with it, the screen was black and reporting disk failure etc. I asked whether she had experienced any other problems before this and she said it had shut down a few times due to overheating. At this point I assumed the black screen was a boot screen so something actually wrong with the HDD or config etc.I arranged to get hold of the laptop, and pretty quickly found that the disk failure etc messages were the result of the File Recovery virus and set about cleaning it up.Managed to boot in safe mode, but this didn't get past the little tinker as I couldn't browse to any security related sites. Just about managed to copy RKILL from usb drive, but couldn't copy or use any other tools from USB as it seemed to spot what I was up to so I had to resort to booting up from Kaspersky Rescue Disk on DVD.This ran okay, but very slow so I left it running overnight (after going back for a final check at midnight when it said it had about an hour left to run), and of course by the morning it had done a thermal shutdown. At 6:45am I wasn't at my brightest so I just booted it back up again. KRD had by that time found some 9 issues so I to... Read more

My question is similar. I'm new to Win7-64. I want to back up the entire system but will System Image Restore allow me to identify and restore individual files? Win7's normal back up function does that, but it doesn't save the OS and programs.

A:System Image Recovery allow me to identify & restore individual files?

Hello Mark, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Sorry, but when doing a System Image Recovery, you will not be able to pick and choose individual files and folders. It's an all or none deal.

However, you could use the tutorial below to manaully extract individual files and folders from within the system image if you like.System Image - Extract Files Using Disk Management

My bookmarks are a huge mess. When I used IE, I would go to the folder on the drive to organize them. Now that I use Firefox, I can't do that. I would like to find a program that gives me ease of organizing and will export the bookmarks as individual files, instead of one.

I'm interested in this: http://bkm.sourceforge.net/en/vbbkm.html but it's old and dead I think. Also I don't think it worked with Firefox.

I'm not interested in online managers and I don't have a real need for portability. I just want to sort and burn the folder.
