Unable to connect to network

Q: Unable to connect to network

Hi,

Since recently I am no longer able to connect to my router from one of my laptops. The connection is failing wireless as well as by cable. My other two laptops are having no problem at all so I think it is a problem with the laptop.

I check other posts and found I could do a TCP/IP reset so I have done that.
If have executed these commands on a elevated command line:
- netsh winsock reset catalog
- netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
- netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

I have restared the laptop afterwards but the problem remains: I am unable to connect to the router.

This is the output of the "ipconfig /all" command (command is ran while I've had only the adapter with the cable enabled, wireless adapter was disabled):

Preferred Solution: Unable to connect to network

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

i'm using a dell inspiron 8600, sp3. i've never had problems accessing the internet until a few weeks ago when i moved. i was slated to join in on my roommmates network, but for some reason I cannot connect. Or more precisely, I connect for about 2 seconds, and I'm immediately bumped off. My roommates tried to fix it, but in vain. the signal is coming in strong on my computer, so I'm not sure what the issue is. any help is definitely welcomed.

Hi,

I am hoping that someone can help me.
We have three computers at home two which are connected to router and working fine and my laptop.
My laptop was connecting to my home wireless network until my daughter used it last. Now it will not connect at all
I used to have to follow the steps below for some reason and then it would connect fine:
Wireless network connections
Change advanced settings
Wireless Networks tab
I would have to tick the checkbox USE WINDOWS TO CONFIGURE MY WIRELESS NETWORK SETTINGS
Then into properties for my wireless network and in association retype my password and then it would connect. (it seemed like to much work every time but it still worked)
There was other networks in the list which i deleted and wireless network connection shows that the network connection strength is excellent but it just seems to get stuck aquiring the network address. I have tried repair etc.

Can someone please help me with this as maybe it's just something simple!!

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help. We recently installed a new wireless router, and all the other computers in our house can access the internet. But for some reason I can only connect to the network, even though it says there's full connectivity.

I called the customer careline for our internet providers, and they said it was a problem with my computer settings, rather than the router. But they said they couldn't advise me any further unless I paid for it, hence my need to look for advice elsewhere....

Thanks!

I need real help. I had cable internet 12mbs installed last September (2010) in my one bedroom apartment. Before that, I was connecting to a spotty 1.5mbs network that was open next door (with their permission). I was able to obtain fast and efficient internet access for about 3 or 4 months and then it became intermittent. For the past 2 months I have been unable to connect through my home cable modem/router at all. I have been to the cable company and they have tested the cable modem/router and the signal which comes into the router and out at fast speeds. I have been to the place where I bought my laptop (purchased at Staples last summer). Others can connect though my wifi, but I cannot. It connects but gives me a DNS error. It doesn't matter whether I am hard wired or on wifi.

I am running:

I have been trying to connect to my university's network, but I am unable. I USED to be able, but now something changed and I can't. I am pretty sure that my Ethernet card is working properly, since when I plug in the cord I get a blinking green light, and it says that the driver is installed and working properly. Plus, when I run IPCONFIG, it gives me an IP Address and Subnet Mask. However, it does NOT give me either a Connection-Specific DNS Suffix nor a Default Gateway. I checked, and I am pretty sure that I have no firewalls (including the built-on XP one) running. Any idea why I can get an IP address and not connect to the network? My computer is registered with the university, and I used to be able to get online.
Thank you!!!!

I have set up a small network in my office - the computers included all use the same Workgroup Name = WORKGROUP. We use a combination of Vista and Windows 7 operating systems. I just set up the newest Windows 7 Professional pc and I am getting the following error when trying to access:

\\FISCHER-PC is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

Logon Failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.

I am setup on all PC's as an Administrator. I have confirmed that the Workgroup Name matches. I can see the PC when I "view devices on the network". I can't seem to even gain access to the computer to see if I can access the folders I've shared.

I followed the same procedures with a PC running Windows 7 and have had no issue getting access to the computer.

Recently I switched ISPs to Qwest, after switching I noticed a severe lag in my wireless internet feed to my PC. I was able to connect to my network and access my internets as I pleased. Recently after that my mum had her laptop's wireless card fritz out. She called a gent from Geek Squad to come out and he re-worked the wireless set-up and updated the firmware for our router and everything. He was unable to get to my computer in time to set me into the network and as usual with them, their directions on how I am to set it up were forgotten and then never written down.

So, that night when I went to access my network it did not show up in the list of available networks. My wireless card is 2 weeks old and works fine, it's just a matter of integrating myself into the network. Any help would be very much appreciated.

A:Unable to connect to network on my PC.

Well first off, don't go to Geek Squad, they seriously don't know anything.

OKay and 2nd, I need more info, what is the wireless router model, what kind of secruity, what is your new ISP and if it comes down to anything, you may have to install a new update onto your ISP or for your router. My mother had the same problem when she got her new Vista laptop.

I've been trying to help a friend fix her computer. I seem to be stuck and can't figure it out.

I scanned it with AVG and the only infection that shows up is Trojan horse BackDoor.Generic14.BZSZ. I also scanned with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and quite a bit more infected files showed up. It crashes whenever I try to repair anything. The computer is running Windows 7 32bit. The only obvious symptoms I can see is it's not able to connect to any network.

Any help would be appreciated!

I moved your threat to the Networking Forum. Has this pc ever connected to your home network before?

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then:

Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again.

How to Remove Stored Wireless Network Profiles for XP, Vista, and Windows 7

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found here's how.

Then:

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

then please Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error a... Read more

Windows XP Pro

On-Board NIC

Let me run down the spiel of this network saga:

Power surge happened Sunday afternoon. Sunday morning, I was connected fine. The orange light on the NIC shows it's on, but no connectivity. I have Comcast. Comcast modem is showing 4 lights - Power, Receive, Send, and Online. There is also a PC/Activity Light. That is suppose to show orange and nothing is blinking there. I also have a wireless network setup. The wireless router is responding and it seems to be getting activity from the LAN. I have a laptop that is setup wireless, but it won't connect to the internet since my modem doesn't have LAN activity.

I was on the phone w/ Comcast trying to figure this out. Replaced out network cables, reset modem numerous times, reset PC numerous times, hard-wired modem to the PC, hard-wired modem to my laptop with LAN enabled, still nothing. Comcast said to replace out modem. Replaced it out and still no connectivity. Brought my PC up to work to determine if it's a bad NIC or not. I had a live connection and I notice the orange light on my NIC is still on with or without any ethernet cable. Powered the PC on and still no connectivity. Uninstalled NIC and the PC detected the NIC. Still no connection. Checked in BIOS to see if on-board LAN is on and it is on. Reset BIOS and still no connectivity. Any other suggestions or bad NIC?

Thanks in advance for the help.

A:Unable to connect to the internet, only to the network

Hi tessiermaurice welcome to the forums.

Couple of questions to help us troubleshoot:
1. Are there any other machines on the network? If so do they have an Internet connection?
2. Is it on ALL networks, or one network in particular?
3. If on one network in particular, how is the network set up? is it a router or a modem?
4. Please open command prompt and type "ipconfig /all" and post the results back.

Also, please fill out your System Specs it will help us enormously, both now and for future problems.
Thanks

Good day!So, this laptop always connected to a LAN cable, and we've rarely brought it away. We're rarely connected to the internet via wireless router, since I don't bring it much. In instances like that 2 years ago, we can connect it seamlessly. But lately, I've been bringing it to school, and it cannot connect by wifi to any router or hotspot.I tried the suggestions from HP Support, like the modifications done in device manager, installing an updated driver for the wireless adapter, restoring the BIOS to its default setup, and others. Still, I can't connect to the wireless networks.Any suggestions?PS: The wireless network adapter in this laptop is a 'Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter

Hi All,

My friend has Windows Vista and a couple of days ago he was unable to connect to a wireless network.

He has a HP laptop. The "Blue wireless light" comes on (at the front of the PC). Windows can't start the wireless service and the HP connects to the broadcom wifi thing but doesn't find any networks.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I am also trying to create a "Recovery CD" from the HP built in CD creator. However, the Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-851S ATA Device (in Device Manager) has an exclamation mark right next to it.. meaning it will not work!

I have tried "uninstalling" and "reinstalling" but with no luck. I think that if I could create these CDs, I could recover the system and get the internet working again.

I just had to format my hardrive and reinstall Windows XP.

Now I am trying to connect to the internet via my already establisched Cable -> Router -> PC network but no matter what I try the 'Wizard' doesn't seem to do what I need.

I obviously have a connection at the cable modem and router since I was able to use the other PC in my house to post this.

The PC I just formatted IS connected exactly the same way it was before I reinstalled XP (with a hard line directly to the router).

I am frustrated that this is so non-intuitive.

Can someone PLEASE walk me through getting the PC to be able to connect to the internet again.

Thanx in advance to any help cause I'm sorta baffled.

Ok, I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 running WinXP that I just recently reformatted. I have a Linksys Wireless-G Notebook adapter (WPC54G ver.3) that I installed. XP picks it up and sees my wireless network(along with my neighbors) but I can't connect. I put in the correct key and it still doesn't connect.

How I got to where I am now:

The guy who own's this laptop had spilled on it. I cleaned it out thoroughly and it was working fine for him for a few months. Then the screen started flickering and typing anything wasn't working right.

Any ideas?

I have a computer, obviously not this one-that can not connect to the local network, and from this can not connect to the internet.

It's on windows xp sp2

recently had to allow MAC authentication to prevent certain neighbors from stealing our internet.

In the device manager nothing has a ! ? or flagged red.

but in the network folder it says that all the network connections are disabled, I've tried to figure out how to enable them but to no avail.

The computer is using a linksys wireless-b usb network adapter, and previously has worked.

what can I do to solve this problem.
sorry if you guys get this sort of question a thousand times per day.

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum so please forgive me if this question has been asked and answered before-i'm not "techy" so I don't really know all the correct terms to do a search by.

I have a "new to me" laptop. Its a Dell Inspirion 9300. I am unable to log on to the wireless network. I see that there's an excellent connection and my computer is telling me that I am connected but when I try to access the internet, via Chrome, I get nada. I get a message telling me that the DNS look up failed, I'm using Windows XP, have Norton Internet Security and am using the Wise 365 Registry Cleaner (it was acting funky before I downloaded the registry cleaner). Is there anything else I need to include? I know the computer's old, but I never had a problem accessing the internet before.

Thanks in advance!

Specs:
2Gig RAM
300Gig HDD
512Mb Geforce 7500 LE
Intel Core Duo 2.13Ghz
Marvell Yukon 88E8056 Gigabit Ethernet Controller

Okay, so here's the status. I can't connect to my network at all. There are no connections listed in the Network Connections menu in the Control Panel. The ipconfig /all results in the message 'Internal error. The request is not supported'. In the Device Manager, all the network adapter components are listed (mainly the Marvell Yukon controller), however they all have exclamation marks next to them. When checking their status they give the message 'Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)'.

I've tried reinstalling the controller drivers, as well as uninstalling the controller completely and reinstalling it.
I've also tried a few solutions (mainly from this site, actually), including the regsvr32 netshell.dll/netcfgx.dll/netman.dll commands in the cmd menu, as well as resetting tcp/ip using the netshell command.

I'm at an utter loss.
Tomorrow, I intend to open up the computer and take a look at the controller.
In the meantime, anyone have any other ideas.
Any help will be hugely appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Update:
Okay, opened her up, found that the NIC is integrated so I can't replace it or remove it. Searched the Acer site (PC's an E560) for any other controller drivers, but ended up with the same ones that won't work.

I am now completely stumped.

I've warned my gf about letting her 11 and 16y/o use the computer, as well as them, explaining that when they "accept" some offer..it's always, at best spyware, and at worst malware.

Periodically I clean it up, occasionally finding malware. The last one I found was located with the suffix .ru which is Russia. I suspect it was a trojan. When I removed it, all of a sudden, the computer which connected to the verizon modem, stopped connecting.

It's as though something within the computer has changed...? I eventually, in frustration, reformatted and reloaded win98se, expecting that to fix it. It did not.

I have tried multiple network cards, different slots, and different modems, both her dsl modem, and then at my place, via my network that feeds into verizon dsl. My other comps work just fine.

Could the malware have changed the networking somehow? Computer works just fine otherwise, but will not connect via any of three network cards, even though two work just fine in my computer.

I'm lost...any thoughts?

Thanks,
Steve

A:Unable to connect via network card??

First we need the systems specs. Hd size, Ram amount, cpu chip. Second try this. It's been awile since I used 98SE but I think there is an icon on the desktop called My Network or My Network Places. Double click on that. Then if you do not see the local area connection look for a link called View My Network Connections. Once you see the Local Area Connection icon make sure it is enabled. If it is not right click and click enable. If it is enabled then right click and click repair. Try to connect after that. Hope this helps.

I have recently formatted my laptop because it didn't work properly anymore.
Now that it's working again, I find myself unable to connect to my wireless network.
I believe I should only have to enter my SSID code and network key while trying to access my connection.
This doesn't work.
When I try to repair the connection it hangs at connecting to wireless network.
Anybody have an idea what's wrong?

Thanks in advance

Did you install the wireless adapter drivers?
Look in device manager to see if there are any Yellow Marks indicating missing drivers.
You should be able to get your drivers from the maker of the laptop.

also, may sound like a dumb quetion, but have you accidentally flicked a wireless switch or pressed a button on the laptop that turns it off?

I have an Acer IconiaTab W500 with Windows 8 developer preview installed on it and I cannot get it to connect to my Cisco 1142 APs. I have a Guest network that is for b/g speeds only and requires [WPA2][Auth(PSK)]. I type the password in and Windows comes back and says something is wrong with the adapter or the access point.

I have taken the tablet over to StarBucks and was able to connect to their wireless network easily.

Of course Acer is no help. Since it came with Windows 7, that is the only support they can offer.

I have an Atheros AR9002WB-1NG wireless adapter. I have tried to install the Win7 drivers and it will not allow the installation to run. I can see all the wireless SSID around me, including my Guest network.

I have disabled the MS Kernal Debug Netwrok Adapter. I left the MS Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter enabled.

Any ideas?

Switch off your router, leave it for 10mins or something, try connecting again. First try without the Athros adapter.

I recently bought a new HP V6000 laptop. I am having problems connecting wirelessly to my local security-enabled network in my new rented accomodation - I display the network when listing the available wireless networks. It cannot be the laptop as i have connected to many other similar networks with ease!

I did manage to connect once the other day by connecting it using the cable instead of attempting to connect wirelessly and then when switching back to wireless connection it was still working. However i had the same problem again, tried the same solution but it does not work anymore???

I just cant seem to pick up the signal. The 2 other people in the house do not have this problem and have full signal from the network.

Any ideas how i can sort this problem - i no expert with computers!

Hello! First post here, probably won't be my last

Here's the situation... I'm trying to connect to my wireless network, but when I do, it simply says "Windows could not connect to (my network name)"
Then I go to troubleshooting, and I get to a loading screen that says "Detecting problems, looking for problems in adapter, resolving problems, ver... etc" and then another window pops up when that's done, that basically tells me to reset the adapter, wait 10 seconds, yada yada you know how that goes.

I reset my modem, and then press "Check to see if the problem is fixed."

Same loading screen comes up as the one I posted above. Then it comes to a screen that says "Windows could not resolve your wireless connectivity issue."
There is a backstory to this. Last weekend, my mom's computer crashed (not exactly sure what happened, she is much less computer literate than I am and just credited the crash to a virus, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't it... long story short she just had a friend re-install windows 7 and whatnot.)
She needed me to her re-connected to our wireless network.. At the time, I was able to (and was) connected to our network. I ran into the same problem with hers, but ended up doing something to get it to work. I didn't meddle with any of the network options, I don't think (I can't remember... I didn't change any passwords, I left it on WPA-2 Personal, all that).
