Hi all,
I recently purchased an Inspiron 15 7567 gaming laptop from Dell and have encountered a few issues.
Computer Specs:
OS: Windows 10 Home 64 Bit
CPU: Intel Core i7 7700HQ Kabylake
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB
Memory: 8GB (1x) DDR4
Storage: 1TB Hybrid Drive
The rest can be found here
Upon first setup there were issues installing the NVIDIA drivers where the install would fail multiple times - eventually I got the driver to install. Then I had some issues with the graphics card enabling when I would play games so I just changed the setting in the NVIDIA control panel to always use the dedicated GPU. After playing some AAA titles such as GTA V and Arma III, I am experiencing what appears to be throttling. On low or ultra settings, my FPS remains around 45-50 (sometimes a little higher before stutter) on most games which surprised me because the dedicated GPU is a 1050 Ti which has higher specs than what the games need. After playing for maybe an hour, the game starts to frequently stutter, dropping frames for a couple seconds then boosting back and so on. I have monitored the temperature of both the GPU and CPU which reach ~56 degrees Celsius and ~70 degrees Celsius respectively. I have also monitored the usage of the CPU and memory during play, the CPU not reaching full usage and the memory reaching about 90% usage. I have also monitored the GPU performance through GPU-Z and will attach the file below. I have virtually tried everything that I can thi... Read more

Hello,Why does the 2017 Inspiron 15 Gaming 7577 model have no Windows 8.1 support?

A:2017 Inspiron 15 Gaming 7577, no Windows 8.1 support?

Starting with the seventh generation Intel Core platform (and AMD Ryzen/R9, R12 APU) only Windows 10 is supported.  It's Microsoft -- not Dell -- that is locking out older Windows on newer CPUs.
Dell is following Microsoft, as all OEMs must.
if you want to run anything older than Windows 10, you must go no newer than the Skylake (6th generation) platform.

I am from National Insruments, we have a software product called Lookout, when we install the update 2017-06 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4022719), there is a problem for window to pop up.
In our software, there is a control panel(panel 1), in panel 1,there is a button(button1) which is connected to another control panel(panel2).
If we click button1, panel can pop up. Before we install the update, the normal action is panel can pop up on the top layer, which can been seen in the following picture.
But after we install the ipdate, the phenomenon is strange, when clicking button2, panel 2 can pop up, but under panel1, we have to click on the button for another time, then panel 2 can show up in the front, this phenomenon is not expected.
I wonder if there are some changes causing this reaction. For example, modifying register key of fixed value of windows parameters , anyone has any ideas or recommendations?

I've had it with this laptop.
Every 3-5 days my bluetooth stops working and device manager shows the device as unrecognized. Updating or rescanning has no effect. Re-booting has no effect. In Bluetooth settings the option to turn on/off bluetooth disappears. My laptop stays closed to the side of my desk in a hard to reach place so then I can't use it at all.
The only remedy so far has been (1) reflashing the bios, or (2) going into the bios and re-saving it. (Mostly (2) doesn't work and I have to do (1).
Either way, my work is interrupted and I have to re-open all my apps and re-set everything up.
I guess I have to send it back, and then I don't have a laptop to ship my current project at work.
Tech support just gets me to reflash the bios.
Is there any other solution????? Anyone else seeing this issue?
Very frustrating.

I started this thread at the beginning of November: Virus help

since then I haven't had the time to fix it but now I've been considering just reinstalling the OS but my problem is I'm not sure how to. The computer with the virus is an Alienware bought from Dell so it didn't come with a windows CD though I have one from building another computer. I was wondering if it was safe to use the other cd or will that not be able to register windows on two computers? And I'm not sure if the Alienware computers come with an internal CD for reinstallation or anything like that.
I would prefer to not have to deal with Dell since they are a hassle and I don't trust them to not charge me for services.

Hi guys, thanks for any help in advance!
I'm beginning to get super frustrated. My PC is fine while doing regular things (usually), but when trying to game it constantly freezes. I can be gaming anywhere from 5 minutes to a few hours before a freeze happens, and happens regardless of how demanding the game is and even on the lowest settings. The screen freezes, I cannot tab in or out or ctrl/alt/del, any game or voice chat sound stops, but the PC remains powered on with all fans still moving. I initially thought it was overheating as the hotter my apartment got the more often it would freeze but that seems to be a coincidence. I've cleaned up and reapplied thermal paste just to be sure that wasn't the issue. I've reseated and reconnected everything. Tried changing which slots the RAM are in, and using one RAM at a time to eliminate faulty RAM is an issue. I have also tried plugging in to different outlets on the off chance it was a power issue since I use a backup battery. I have tried doing a clean install of windows 10. All drivers are up to date. System is not overclocked.

In my event log I of course have event 41 Kernal power as I have to force restart, under error tab there is Event 69 AppModel-Runtime, Event 7000 and 7009 service control manager, in the last hour I have 4 instances of Event ID 10016 DistributedCOM. Not sure if that is helpful or not.

I have 2 Dell Optiplex GX260s I purchased used from a university. One is a slimline, the other is a mid-tower. Both hard drives were wiped by the university. Both will not install Win XP. When the install CD is inserted, "Press any key to boot from CD..." is displayed. Then "Setup is inspecting your hardware configuration" is displayed for about 5 seconds. Then the display goes blank and the HDD light remains on steady. The PC will remain in that state and not install. I have left the machine on overnight to see if anything would happen.

Here is what is strange:
1. The WinXP install disk works fine on another machine. (home built)
2. Fedora 7 linux installs and runs fine. (Ubuntu does not)
3. BOTH PCs have the same issue which leads me to believe that it is not a hardware issue with the machine.

Any suggestions? I suspect it is something with the Dell hardware configuration but what? Thanks.

When I use Windows Media Player, it says "encountered a problem while playing the file."
When I use vlc player, it opens the audio file, advances the time elapsed, but the speakers are silent
I updated Windows.
I ran Windows diagnostics.
Windows diagnostics detected conflict with sound card enhancements, so I disabled them, then rebooted.
I uninstalled the only recent Windows update, which was Feb. 21 windows update of Adobe Flash player.  I re-booted.
I ran AVG anti-virus and Malwarebytes.
I am trying to run on dell.com the online diagnosis, but it is stuck.

I downloaded Dell System Detect and installed it.  It is running, and appears in the system tray.
The I selected a sound card test.
However, the process is stuck at step 2. Install System Detect

A:alienware R3 13,3 inch the latest 2017 ram upgrade and nvidia upgrade

Yes, the RAM can be upgraded to 2X16 = 32 G.
The internal GPU cannot be upgraded - you'd need to buy an external Alienware graphics amplifier and use an external GPU to upgrade.

I can't remember when/how the problem started occuring...

It basically happens when I'm gaming (which is what I use my laptop 90% for), hasn't ever occured when I'm not gaming.

When I have a fullscreen game application running and I try to tab out, i will have a 99% chance to BSOD. It also occurs sometimes just randomly during gaming.

attached is my minidump file.. Please help.

"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.

Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures ... Read more

Hey guys! (and girls )

I would just like to ask, which operating system do YOU think is more for gaming? As in, which one works better, faster, and more reliable?
To me, I think Windows XP is much more for gaming/hardcore gaming because of it's simplicity.
Windows 7 has too much theme options (Aero, transparency, etc) and animations.
I mean, that depends whether you want those features or not.

Windows XP is simple, not too much of theme options, animations are simple, less lag, less technical problems, but doesn't have compatibility with the newer versions of Direct X. If I'm not mistaken, the latest version of Direct X for Windows XP is Direct X 9. That isn't much of a big problem to me.

Those are my thoughts.

Just recently, my Inspiron 5150 laptop has decided that when I turn the power off, it wants to run the fan! Sometimes it runs on an almost idle-speed, but most often it is running full blast.

The moment I power up the laptop, the fan returns to normal operating speeds. If i plug in the power cord and charge it all the way, the fan turns off...but the moment i unplug it, the fan goes back on!

I have absolutely no clue what is causing this. It's extremely annoying, as the battery dies quite quickly when I take my laptop with me and the loud fan is extremely, extremely annoying. Any ideas?

Over the past year i have had a problem on and off with my alienware 17 laptop. While playing games with the power adapter attached i usually have a problem with the game freezing causing me to have to hard reboot my computer but when i play on my battery it works perfectly fine. Even when i run on battery mode while playing games and plug in the adapter the computer still seems to freeze up on me. The strange thing is that i can do school work and surf the web while the adapter is plugged in.

Okay so I am getting a new laptop. it will have windows 8.1, my friend has windows 7. does it matter? can we still connect in games either online or tcp/ip games. not necessarily mmo but rpg's and such. Thanks!

A:Solved: Operating systems and online gaming

Operating system makes no difference. As long as you have enough memory and a graphics card that can handle your games - preferably one with dedicated memory since a number of games really need it. Besides if you ever decide to get into the mmo games, you'll really need it. My daughter plays WOW and has 6 or 8 gigs of memory and an upper end graphics card with dedicated memory - it even has its own cooling fan built in.

I have a Dell 1525 Inspiron laptop..i believe is about 3 years old. I got it as a hand-me-down from my BF's mother, who took excellent care of it. Ive only had it since February, but it has always run fine, until this past month. 3 times now it has done this to me. The first time, it was just after I unplugged it to take it to a friends house..then tried to power it up about 1/2 hour later and nothing...let it sit for 2 days or so, and then it was ok..now it has happened 2 more times..but these times, it froze up and wouldnt unfreeze..then when I got it powered down and tried to get it back up..nothing...the second time it again took a few days then it was ok..this last time it has been a week and nothing yet. This time, the only thing that is different is that the 3 lights to the left of the power button are blinking, the caps lock, numbers lock and scroll lock icons.. It powers up, then shuts down within 5 seconds or so...but the power light and the one fan keeps running...Ive been told multiple things so far..from a bad battery to bad power cord to bad connection in the lappy where the power cord connects.. I just dont understand why it powered up those 1st 2 times and it wont this time..unless it was just a fluke those times. I dont have alot of money to fix it, or replace things unless i know for sure what im buying is going to work. I dont want to lose whats on it either!! help!

I been looking at some extreme systems online, and the pretty cases they come in, and was thinking i could build a system that could compete with alienware/xps systems for way way less.

I hand picked components that look good and will get the job done, the same or nearly the same specs as the xps/alienware and other gaming systems.

1. Really cool case, blue lights, see through side panel w 450w power supply $39.99
2. 256MB Radeon ATI X1950 pci-express $225.00
3. Asus extreme gaming mobo M2N-MX $84.99
4. 2Gigs of DDR2 $200.00
5. Intel duo-core w' fan 2.13 GHz 239.00
6. XP pro new in package/pricegrabber.com under 100 (reliable/stable) / or vista upgrade around 100. (recommend to wait a few months)
7. Quality laser mouse and keyboard $75.00 or less
8. 250 GB SATA Hard drive $60
....and last but not least the
9. L12-1128 1. Lite-On LH-20A1P SuperAllwrite / 20x DVD±R Burn / 16x DVD±R Read / 8x DVD+RW / 6x DVD-RW / 8x DVD±R DL / 12x DVD-RAM / 48x32x CD-R/RW / Black / DVD Burner for $40 bucks.

(the only rebate item was the SATA HDD.)

Amazing sys for just $1064 maybe add 30 bucks for shipping (just under 1100)

Extreme Gaming is within reach after all!

Ive seen many similar pc's that are selling for 3500 to 4500 dollars.

I believe that major vendor systems are fine indeed, but mainly just interested in what some experienced pc gamers have to say abou the subj. Thanks for any feedback.

A:Extreme Gaming VS. vendors overpriced systems & your opinions!

Unless that case comes with a name brand power supply, which I doubt, scrap that one and buy a solid name brand one. The power supplies they sell with the cases are usually junk.

Also, if you are planning on using Vista at any point, now or the near future, get a graphics card that supports DX10.

I have a Dell Dimension 3100 that I have recently had to power up, hold in the power button until it shuts off, then power up again before it starts. I had a hard time finding an aftermarket PSU that would work with a Dell so I found a used and tested Dell PSU and installed it and I have the same issue. I ran SeaTools which said I had no hard drive issues. Someone suggested that it might be a BIOS issue and/or a BIOS battery but I have no idea what to look for.

So recently, after the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (I think), I turn off my Dell Inspiron 15-5547 at night fully charged, only to find it drained by the morning.  Yes, I turn it completely off, not to sleep or hibernate.  Fast Boot is disabled.  When I turn it back on in the morning, the screen displays the "Battery Critically Low" error message and the battery indicator is orange, which means it is low.
The battery life itself is fine.  Lasts at least 2-3 hours while working on the laptop.  Even my 10 year old laptop with a 30 minute battery can last for weeks without being turned on.  So the battery couldn't have gone bad.
Samsung EVO 500 GB SSD, 8 GB RAM, Intel i5 4th Gen Processor, Windows 10 Anniversary Update.
Any suggestions?
