Inspiron N4010 Memory upgrade issue

Q: Inspiron N4010 Memory upgrade issue

I purchased some memory today and installed it, once installed I wound up in an endless loop of restart and never got Windows to load.
Old ram was put back in and computer works fine.
The RAM I bought was kingston DDR3 1333 CL9 (4GB)
I have a core i3 cpu in this Inspiron N4010 - and I am running a 64 bit operating system.
Is there some reason that this RAM would not be compatible? what can i do to solve this issue?
thank you

Preferred Solution: Inspiron N4010 Memory upgrade issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is this Value RAM (KVR)? That's known to have compatibility issues with Dell and other systems.

is there a limit to the amount each one of the chips can be with the Core i3 (e.g. cannot be built off of 512mb but has to be 256mb)??

A:Inspiron N4010 Memory upgrade issue

Hi SeaNomad,
The Memory modules which you have purchased are compatible with the system. Please use the old Memory and update the BIOS using the link below.
Connect the Ac Adapter before updating the BIOS and do not use the system until it restarts after the update. Once the BIOS is updated please install the new Memory and check if the system is working fine.

I need to upgrade the RAM of my N4010,now I have only one slot working (the other is not working) with 2gb samsung memory.
My questions are?
Does N4010 support any 8gb module? If it does, which type of DDR3 module? (I have tried Kingston kvr16ls11/8 but did not work)
If it supports up to 4gb which type of memory does it need? (I have tried Kingston Kvr13s9s8/4 but it did not work either)
Thanks in advance for your help

Hi Ho Xu Zhe,
The Inspiron N4010 system supports dual-channel DDR3 SDRAM SODIMM with memory speeds of 1333 MHz.

Yes Kingston Brand RAM Memory ( KVR13S9S8/4) is compatible with your system. You can install both 2GB DDR3 RAM on slot 1 and Kingston memory on slot 2.
1600MHz clock speed memory is not compatible your system.

I have a Dell 1521 running Vista, I have had no issues with the laptop, it runs great. I wanted to added mmore memory just for and little boost and max out the system. I purchased some Kingston 2 gig ram modules which are compatible for the system and installed them. The Bios does not register that I have 4 gigs of Ram just the normal 2 gigs. I have updated the Bios incase this was an issue and this did not fix the issue. I have reseated the ram, still just the 2 gigs are registered.

Is there anything else that I need to do for my system to resgister the other 2 gigs of ram for the system.

I want to record from a turntable with RCA jacks (Audio Technica AT-PL50 with a pre-amp) but my Inspiron N4010 does not seem to have a line-in jack.
1) If I can find a RCA to USB adapter, will that work? any specific recommendation on adapter?
2)  if the mic input is some kinda combo jack (3.5 mm) is that preferable to USB?
3) can either of these options record in stereo? I'm not looking for audiophile quality but stereo would be nice
4) other options that are pretty straightforward? :) I'm looking for cheap & easy!
THANKS in advance for any suggestions, and feel free to laugh at my dated equipment! JB

A:record from turntable to Inspiron 14R N4010

jbkatcallmy Inspiron N4010 does not seem to have a line-in jack.
Hello JB. The audio input port of the N4010 is not a standard combo port, but it might have a dual function -- mic jack and stereo line-in. The Inspiron 14R N4010 Setup Guide, page 23, says the port "Connects to a microphone or inputs signal for use with audio programs." If you plug in a mic and then see a popup box that asks you whether you plugged in a mic or a line-in, then it is a dual purpose port. You would have to have the proper Realtek audio driver, for your model and operating system, installed for any chance of that happening. If you do get the popup, then you could use your pre-amped turntable with it by getting the the adapters needed to go from male RCA to male 3.5 mm.plug, and then selecting line-in on the popup.
If you don't get the popup, or can't find some other way to configure the port, then it probably just functions as a mono mic jack, which would not be a good choice for your purpose. If you already have the adapters on hand you could try making a recording through the port and see if the result is in stereo or not, and if you can set the levels properly (when configured as a mic jack, there will be a mic pre-amp in the signal path, which will boost the line-level signal too high, but you might be able to over-ride that with the level settings).
If you don't have the popup or some other way to configure the port, the best solution would be to get a usb audio d... Read more

netsh winsock reset
Try the computer at another wifi hotspot to see if it works there.

Hello, I hope someone on here can help me with this issue. Ok here it goes... I just bought this used laptop. I bought it so I could speak to friends & family on Skype. Before buying the laptop the previous owner was attempting to connect to his wireless internet connection & it would pick up the signal and then loose the internet connection. The computer seemed as if it would freeze for a few seconds when attempting to open up the Internet Explorer browser. The screen was blank and a swirling circle would show next to the pointer. Seemed as it was a bad internet connection or at least that's what he told me. After a few tries we got it connected to the internet and I bought it.

I assumed Internet Explorer 8 was crappy so I downloaded Google Chrome. The speed on the laptop really picked up and it rarely gave me any slow or freezing issues only when I used Google Chrome.

NOW... I downloaded Skype and soon after I tried using it as the laptop comes with an integrated camera. When I double click the Skype Icon on my desktop the Skype window opens for a second and closes immediately. I have to try and open the program 2 to 4 times for Skype to open and get me to the sign in section. Once signed in I attempt to add contacts & not even 5 seconds into it the program freezes. It says program not responding & a screen pops up which says Skype not responding close window. I never get to use Skype and I'm not sure if it's a non sufficient space issue ... Read more

I have encountered the "8 beeps on start up" problem.
I've tried pressing "D" plus the power button to do the screen test which shows several solid colors flashing and then goes black after about 10 seconds. The power button stays lit but there are no "working" sounds coming from the computer. The fan runs lightly.
I've tried hooking up to an external monitor and there is no signal or display.
I've tried taking apart and reconnecting cables inside computer with no success.
Any other ideas? Could it be a hardware problem that I can replace myself?
Thanks in advance.

A:Dell Laptop New Inspiron 14R N4010 solutions

Hello greengtl and welcome to the forum. Windows 7 is quite a bit different from XP. A lot of things you might be used to doing in XP won't be applicable in 7. They are two completely different systems. If you're not sure what you're doing with the partitions you can turn your machine into an expensive paper weight.

Having said that, the first thing I'd suggest you do is make a system image of your 14R along with the accompanying system repair disk. A system image will allow you to restore your machine exactly like it was when the image was made ... the operating system, updates, all personal settings, files, folders, data, etc. You could use 7's built in imaging tool or a free program called Macrium reflect. Many people recommend storing the image on an external hard drive rather than using a lot of DVDs.

Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

Imaging with free Macrium

Once you have your image and repair disk you can be safe in messing around with the partitions and learning from experience. As far as dual booting XP, you might consider running XP in a virtual machine. A virtual machine is a software program that installs on your machine just like any other software. Then you can install XP into that software and run it as a separate program rather than creating an additional partition on your hard drive and possibly creating other boot problems. A couple of virtual machines that seem to be popular are VirtualBox and VMware Player.

Dear Sir / Madam,
When I power on Dell Inspiron 14R N4010, Dell Inspiron logo appears, progress bar stops in the 75% and long beep sound is coming.
I tried pressing F8 accurately several times, when the computer loads, but it is not working.
Even the boot option is given as F12, but pressing F12 not working.
I also tried pressing F8 separately and along with Function key. Similarly for F12.
Nothing works out.
When I tried pressing Esc key, the BIOS information appears. F2 for Setup appears. Pressing F2, just hangs by displaying "Entering Setup...."
Please kindly suggest what can I do? Looks like some malicious software cleaned up the whole system.
I also tried putting Windows 7 repair disk (generated from another system) into the drive, but not working. I think only after changing the boot option only it works.
Expecting your kind help in this regard.

Hi Bala,
Do you get any error message on screen?
Could you please let me know the series of beep code that you hear when you power on the computer.
You can drain out the residual power of computer and then try using the computer:

Power off your computer.
Remove all the external peripherals connected to your computer.
Please remove the AC adaptor and battery of your computer.
Press and hold the power button of your computer for 10-15 seconds to drain out the residual power.
Release the power button.
Insert the battery in and connect the AC adaptor.
Then try powering on the computer.

I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request by clicking on my name highlighted in blue and then click on “Friends” tab at the top and then click on “Request to Review” and finally click on “Accept” button.
I am sending you a private message as well. Click on “Inbox” to respond to the message and provide system’s Service Tag and contact details so I may access your system records and check for further course of action. You could also click on Start Conversation to send a private message.

Hi there!

I have a Dell Inspiron n4010, and recently my speakers stopped working. At first, it was just one of them, but later the other stopped working too. Everything in the OS seems to be right, the drivers are installed, etc... So I decided to open it so I could see if the connection on the motherboard is alright. And they were, so couldn't solve that.

Anyway, the big problem came later. When I plugged the three ribbons attached from the top panel to the motherboard (one for the powering button, another one for the keyboard, and the last one for the trackpad), and put all the screws back in, the laptop didnt boot up. So after playing around a bit to try different possibilities, I realized that is only when I connect the trackpad ribbon that the computer doesn't boot. If it's unplugged, there is no problem.

Searching for a solution I found this on another post on /vb/topic37680 (Add techspot.com at the beginning and .html at the end, cause I cannot post links).

But that works for a different model, and implies breaking a sensor, which I'd rather not doing. So I would like to know if anyone knows the solution to this, or if there is anybody out there with the same problem and had success fixing it. Thanks and regards!

A:Inspiron N4010 won't turn on if trackpad is connected

You have probably shorted or damaged one or more of the ribbon cables wires. Did you release the ribbon cables properly by releasing any plastic clips, or just by pulling on them? A Windows re-install might have brought the sound back to life. An errant Windows update might have caused this loss of sound. Now you have really messed things up

Hi vinatex,

You have to access the boot menu by pressing a special key (ie, F key, Del, etc) when the splash screen first appears. It should display a text menu that identifies which key you need to press,. Once there, select the UEFI USB boot option and it should boot from the USB drive but "only" if it is recognized as a valid boot drive. However, if it is not, see this tutorial for help:

Hi amlan.dell,
Please share from where are you trying to install the Intel Media Accelerator drivers. Is it from the Dell website or from the Intel website? Also if the the Windows 7 Ultimate installed is 64bit or 32bit.
Please update the BIOS to the latest version from here. Make sure the ac adapter is connected and the battery is charged 10% or above to update the BIOS. Also, disconnect all the external peripherals before updating the BIOS. All the programs should be closed and documents saved.
Try updating the Intel Media Accelerator drivers from the Dell Website.

My Inspiron currently has an Intel Pentium CPU [email protected] and i was wondering if there is an upgrade available? Maybe an i3 or an i5.

A:Upgrade for the 14R(N4010) processor?

Sorry to bring old thread back to life.. But FYI I upgraded my Dell 4010 14R to an i7-640M Dual Core 2.80GHz and it's working great.. No bios upgrade (A13), no overheating issues and fan isn't coming on too often..  Also I put in an SSD drive and 8gb ram (4gb x 2).  Runs windows 10 quite comfortably.
Ps. 16gb (8gb x 2) did not work - caused windows to crash before getting to install screen.
I am very happy.

I am in the process of upgrading the Inspiron 530 for my mom. It was running great but has started to show it's age.  I want to snag some new faster memory, was contemplating upgrading the processor but at this point not going to bother cause of the fact that it's an older machine, she mainly uses it for emails and the occasional web surfing session.
I see that Dell is silling RAM but feel it's a little more expensive side and was trying to find it elsewhere but see there's different speeds...So rather than get the wrong speed and have it not work, can someone point me in the right direction so I make sure I get the right memory?

A:Inspiron 530 Memory Upgrade

You can get an E8400 CPU on eBay for a modest sum. You can get four GB of lifetime warranty memory for $50, including shipping.
The biggest improvement you can make will be an SSD boot drive; it will make the 530 seem like a whole new computer, faster than some new entry level models.

"Driver IRQL not less or equal"; Page fault in non area - RDYBOOST.sys"; Attempted write to read only memory - TCPIP.sys"; then get black Dell screen "Preparing Automatic Repair"; "Syatem thread exception not handled -USBHUB.sys; "Driver IRQL not less or equal - TCPIP.sys; "Driver IRQL not less or equal - Netio.sys": "Page fault in non page area"; "Kmode exception not handled" and more. Have only been able to get to Windows 10 start page twice when I was presented with an option screen to "Exit and open Windows 10; shut down; continue; open BIOS". Went to BIOS once and saw that speed was 1800, all other peramaters seemed to be OK.  When I replace the original 4GB memory I got the first opening screen saying that if I had not replaced memory that I should reseat memory. The computer went through a few reboots and then the Windows 10 screen came up.
Any idea why my computer will not accept this memory? Do I need to overclock the AMD E2 processor? If so how? Do I need to return 8GB memory chips and get a set with slower speed?

I suppose you might need to return those modules and order the 1600 MHz and it should work fine. The system supports up to 16GB memory.

I currently have 6GB and I'd like to increase to the max which I believe is 8GB.
Since N7110 has 2 slots i probably have one slot 4GB and another slot 2GB.
Can I add 2GB to slot 2 or i have to replace the 2GB with a 4GB?

I need help to find a proper ram module for my old dell n5040
Now it run with this module:
DIMM1: Nanya NT4GC64B8HB0NS-CG 4 gb DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM (8-8-8-22 @ 609 mhz) (7-7-7-20 @ 533 mhz) (6-6-6-17 @ 457 mhz) (5-5-5-14 @ 380 mhz)
I was try to find another one, but it out of stock at local markets in Russia.
Help me to find alternative module please.

A:Inspiron n5040 memory upgrade

Below are the system specs for the Memory in your Dell Inspiron N5040. Unfortunately, I have no information to purchase Memory in Russia except for contacting Dell Sales in your area.
Memory Specs:
Memory module connectors Two user-accessible SODIMM connectors Memory module capacities 2 GB, 4 GB and 8GB Possible Memory Configurations 2 GB, 3 GB, 4 GB, 6 GB and 8 GB Memory type DDR3 1333 MHz SODIMM (Operates at 1066 MHz) Minimum memory 2 GB Maximum memory 8 GB
The Inspiron N5040 system supports dual-channel DDR3 SDRAM with memory speeds of 1333 MHz. At 1333 MHz, the memory offers a significant increase of memory performance over previous platforms.
NOTE: Since the Front Side Bus on the HM57 chipset is 1066 MHz,the memory on Inspiron N5040 will be operating at 1066 MHz

The memory solution is implemented in a dual-channel configuration, allowing the system to have twice the memory bandwidth while using the same memory technology.
Memory modules must be installed as a perfectly matched pair to take advantage of the dual-channel memory bus. If not a matched pair, the system's memory bus operates in a single-channel configuration.

Memory Configuration
Inspiron N5040 has two user-accessible SODIMM sockets, both slots can be accessed after removing the keyboard  . Basically, when both DIMM connectors are populated, the system has optimum dual-channel performance unless channels A and B have different amounts of memory.

Hi, this may seem like a stupid question, but I recently got the entry level Inspiron 13, 5000 series (i3, 4gb Ram). I want to upgrade the memory as it's a bit sluggish. Dell's site said this model only has one Ram slot. I've been told it actually has two. I'm a clumsy oaf and don't want to open the case unnecessarily (and break those awkward little clicky 'lips'). Can anyone tell me if there is one slot or two?

I ask because, if there is just the one, I'll go for 16, if it's two, I'll go for an 8 to make a total of 12.

A:Memory upgrade for Inspiron 13 5000 series (2 in 1)

Check the service manual at dell support. Go Here for memory configuration.
Adding memory to a laptop will work better if you match the ram. If it has 2 slots replace both or match the one it has.
Here is the service manual for the Ins 13 5368 2 in 1--

Hi !
I have a Dell Inspiron 1750 LapTop with 4Gb installed. 2 x 2Gb working fine.
I bought 2 x 4Gb DDR2 6400 800Mhz, once I installed the 2 memories the laptop didn't start, only the white light shows on. No fan, no hard drive running.

I installed only one memory on slot 2 and the computer works fine.
I switched the memory to slot 1 and again the laptop doesn't start.

Seems that slot 1 is faulty. But it used to work fine before I tried to install the new memories.

Now I can only use slot 2 with a 2Gb or the 4Gb. If I put both 2 Go like it was the laptop won't start.

Any idea how to make it works?

A:Upgrade memory dell Inspiron 1750

Unplug the system, remove the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Be sure both modules are firmly seated - try powering up with both of them.  If the system won't, but both modules work in one socket but not the other, the only thing you can do is replace the mainboard.  While it is technically possible to replace just the socket, the labor alone for that will exceed the cost of a replacement board.

I received a Dell Inspiron 600m for free. Has 1.6 GHz CPU and 80GB HDD.

Installed Windows 7 x86 and have all the correct drivers. Everything is working fine.

It is slow but not too bad with hard page faults high and CPU usage hitting 100% depending on activity.

Currently has 768GB memory @266MHz (it actually uses 333MHz but has a one 512GB stick @266 that reduces the overall speed).

I can upgrade the RAM to 2GB @333MHz for $46. (It also needs a nes battery but that is a secondary consideration.)

Intended usage is web-surfing, email and Word. Can anyone who has this model comment on whether the $46 will be worth it in terms of performance boost? It seems to be a pretty solid, though older, machine. A bit more "snap" in web surfing would make it fine for the intended usage....

A:Is memory upgrade for Inspiron 600m worth it?

I'd say don't bother. What you should do is Install XP, or the original version of Windows that came on it using the License key on the COA sticker.

Win 7 take a lot of resources, much more then XP, and really isn't meant to be run on that model notebook.

XP will work just fine for your intended usage of that system.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1750 Laptop with 4GB installed (2 x 2GB) which is working fine. I bought 2 x 4GB DDR2-6400 800MHz SODIMM,, Micron Technology part number MT16HTF51264HZ-800C1.  I installed the two memory chips and the laptop doesn't start, only the white light shows on. No fan, no hard drive running.  The screen is blank and then after a couple of minutes you hear four beeps every couple of seconds.  What's wrong?
I thought the memory that I bought, MT16HTF51264HZ-800C1, had the exact same specification the the original Dell memory.  Did I miss something?  (By the way I read that removing the battery and holding down the power button for 30 seconds might solve my problem but that didn't help.  The posting never explained what this action would solve.)
Thanks for you help.

Put back the old RAM.
If your old RAM works then your new RAM is incompatible.
Also practice ESD protection when handling RAM.

According to the Dell web site, there are three memory modules available to me for my Inspiron 17R (7720):

2GB Certified Memory Module - DDR3 SODIMM 1600MHz LV
4GB Certified Memory Module - DDR3 SODIMM 1600MHz LV
Dual In-Line Memory Module,2GB,1333MHZ,256X64,8K,204

The site also tells me the maximum memory is 16GB, with "Number of slots" equal to two. When I click the Windows start button and select "system" I see my laptop currently has 8GB of RAM.
It's been a while since I've added memory to a computer, but never on this particular one. What I seem to remember when I did this on a desktop, about ten years ago, I had to use two matching memory modules to add up to the max that I desired...I couldn't just use one module. If this is the case, and there are only two slots, looking at my choices from the Dell site, I don't see any way to total up to 16GB of memory if I wanted to upgrade.
Any other solutions I'm missing here? (Please don't say buy a new computer...I gotta get some other stuff paid off first).

A:Question about memory upgrade for my Inspiron 17R (7720)

The memory is designed to run in matched pairs, but that's not required -- you CAN use mis-matched modules with a slight performance reduction.  That said, going beyond 8G isn't going to net you any performance boost unless you're running an unusually memory-intensive application.
.If the system is running a  conventional hard drive, replacing it with a solid state drive will net you far more of a performance boost.

I'm planning for the RAM upgrade for my DELL INSPIRON 14 N4050 laptop & the current configurations are:
1. 213-14765 : 2nd generation Intel(R) Core(T M) i5-2450M processor (2.50 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3 .10 GHz)
2. 370-18553 : 2GB (1 x 2GB) 1 DIMM DDR3 1333Mhz
My question is:
1.How much capacity of the RAM is supported ?
2.What if i use 1600Mhz module rather than 1333Mhz ?
Thank You.

A:Memory upgrade for DELL INSPIRON 14 N4050

1. 8 G total, 2x4 max.
2.  The memory will run at 1066 MHz max -- to run 1333 you'd need an i7 CPU;  the system cannot run memory faster than 1333 even if 1600 is installed.

This forum has given me alot of advise on speeding up my laptop. I have upgraded my chipset driver and tried to configured my Internet security (Kaspersky 7.0) so that it would not scan on startup and stopped my mail and spam watch since I don't have Outlook. This helped some, but I still have issues when I'm on the internet and downloading files or multi-tasking with other windows open. I also have received what you call the BSOD 3 times in the last month when I have had multiple windows open and the internet running for a long time. I do not know what the screen said, and after seeing the forums on the BSOD I know to see what the problem is when or if it happens again.

I was thinking of upgrading my memory. Right now I have 2 slots with 128mb in each. I was going to upgrade to 1G. After looking at my system configuration I found that I only have 11.37% of memory left. Do you think this will help my laptop run faster? It was also reccommended to upgrade the BIOS - I did this from A21 to A32. I would eventually like to upgrade my Windows XP Pro from SP2 to SP3. Should I do this now or get the memory upgrade and then do it. Any advise would be appreciated and please I'm not that computer savy so be specific.

One more thing I was trying to spell check this, but found that I needed to download iespell. I tried to do this and it would still not work - so I uninstalled it. I then decided to go to the iespell website and try again. When I tried... Read more

I figured since I started here I would keep going...I've decided that since I'm upgrading the ram and might as well go the HD too...I have a Toshiba 30g ATA and I'm thinking about going for a Western Digital Scorpio 120G ATA. I read reviews and think this is a good product, but a trust you guys here so I would like your opinion.

I'm also going to clean the Cooling Assembly while I'm inside the computer...This will be the first time I'll do this all myself so if there is any tips or advise that anyone has it would also be appreciated. Thanks again

I have replaced memory in other computers in the past but this new INspiron seems to have an additional step in the process: temp. removal of PCI cards before new mem. install. What"s up with that?
The instuctions are straightfoward enough but is the procedure necessay? Also, the sticks must be installed in a certain order?
Thanks, Doc...

I purchased my Dell from Staples and the description said that the memory is 8GB, 2400MHz, DDR4. Am I able to put in a 16GB 2400MHz, DDR4 with the 8GB or do they both have to be the same GB?

A:Dell Inspiron 15 (3567) Memory Upgrade

You can install up to 2x16 = 32 G, yes -- but check to see what you have now.  It's likely 2X4, meaning one would need to be replaced for a total of 20G.

I have upgraded my laptop from 4GB to 12GB (4+8). After the upgrade, the laptop boots and runs very very slowly. My laptop came with 4GB ram 1600 single stick. I upgraded the RAM by adding another stick of 8GB same bus and same manufacturer. The BIOS shows the total memory as 2288MB instead of 12288MB. Windows detects total RAM of 12GB but boots and runs very slowly.I have updated the BIOS from A06 to A07 trying to resolve the problem but with no luck. When installing each RAM stick alone (4gb or 8gb), everything works fine, but the issue comes back again when both sticks are mounted together even when switching the places on the sockets.Looking for your kind support!
