M91p - Upgraded hardware, now won't boot (beeping)

Q: M91p - Upgraded hardware, now won't boot (beeping)

Hello everyone, I have the m91p and recently upgraded some hardware; ram, cpu, and video card. When I first powered it on, it booted fine and I was able to log in. Now when I try to boot it, I get 3 short beeps, followed by 3 long, and ending with 1 short beep. Does anyone know what this beep sequence means? I tried taking out all the new components and replacing with the old and the beeping still occurs. Could this be the power supply?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an m91p (i5-2400, 4GB, SFF) and take its components into a mid-tower case, and upgraded the PSU to 750W. I also purchased an R9-270X, but the machine won't boot with the graphic card. Just wondering: 1. if the machine is able to work with this card. If yes, what change should I make?2. if not possible, what is the best graphic card that can work on this machine? As you see, i have enough power supply. thanks, Z

A:Can m91p be upgraded to an R9-270X?

Unlikely anyone here has run a R9-270X in their M-series. The BIOS probably does not support that card. You could check that you have the latest installed. The ThickCenters are business focused PCs, and as such, support that class of graphics card, along the lines of a 7750 or R7 equivalent, or a GTX 750. A card that can support business apps on multiple screens.

hi all, I have a refurbished Thinkcentre m91p Type 4518 (i5 2400, 8GB DDR3, 320GBHDD, standard VGA Adaptor), which is working fine, except HD video playbacks are sometimes lagging, so i thought of upgrading to a decent video card.Recently bought an R7-240 low profile video card(Asus AMD Radeon R7-240, 2GB, DDR3, PCIe 3.0)and hooked up the card into the PCIe Slot.when turned on there was no display and the fan wasn't even spinning. Then i updated my BIOS to ver.LENOVO 9HKT58AUS, dated 06/10/2014.Now the video card fan is spinning, but system seems not booting and no beeps, power LED is on,but absolutely no dispaly, not even the boot spalsh.even the onboard VGA port is not responding when the R7-240 is hooked to the board.once i removed the card from the board, the onboard VGA is responding normally.the system seems not recognizing the R7-240 at all.in BIOS video setup, active video was set to both AUTO and PEG and tried, but still no display. Also tried with both HDMI and VGA ports.Could it be possible that the MOBO is somehow OEM locked, is it my R7-240 faulty ?or did i overlook something else, help appreciated.

Hello.

My computer does not boot up. Whenever I push the on button, it does not boot. Nothing appears on the screen, all I get is a continuous beeping.

Here is the beeping:

Please have a listen and tell me what you think the problem is and possible solutions.

Thanks to anyone who helps.

I did not download the file but I would make sure that the memory is reseated properly and also all of the other cards like video card is/are also seated properly. Do this reseating with the computer powered down.

PXE boot for 4518 & 4524 takes repeated attempts before accepting DHCP connections. Is there a BIOS or firmware release that can make network booting reliable?Unlike 8215(M52), 8810(M55), 6072(M57), and 7483(M58), the M91 takes multiple attempts to acquire a network connection and begin download of the image. When the units attempt connection, it drops to the cabling error message, but the ethernet port is displaying a solid orange led and blinking yellow led as if the cable is connected properly and will work fine once the operating system(Windows 7) is loaded. The issue is not effected by boot order or delaying when ?Enter? is press after the option is chosen.

Hi , I have some Lenovo ThinkCentre M91p dekstops which I try to boot over our network in uefi pxe boot but no luck so far. Our pxe network server is setup to work with uefi only so I set m91p in bios to uefi mode and tryed to boot over pxe but I think network is still in legacy mode, with other type of boot option I have two options to boot ( for example usb flash drive - legacy and uefi boot in submenu to choose in auto bios mode , in uefi bios mode it boot directly in uefi the usb flash drive ) but for the pxe boot its the same in uefi bios option and auto/legacy - connects to network pxe , try to boot and same error for too big size like we get if bios is set to legacy ot cms mode. So my question is it possible to boot in uefi pxe mode this desktop ? Or we will need to change pxe server to allow and working with legacy.Thank you for your answers.

My computer, starting within the past week, has started beeping at times when playing games. It seems to come once every 3-15 minutes, and is from the PC Speaker. I've checked various things...and my CPU is only running at 45 degrees Celsius when under load, and my GPU at around 65, both of which are cool enough and acceptable. My case is in the mid to high 30s.

I've run some scanning tools on my harddrive, and it seems to be perfectly fine and possessing of no errors. I've not experienced any crashing or issues due to this thus far, but it has me quite worried. As a note...I had reformatted a couple of weeks ago, and had also disabled many windows services and similar things. This beeping has only started within the past week, however, and seemingly at random. Would anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be? It has been going on for days with no problem..

Edit: As a note, rather than being like a POST beep, it is higher pitched...but not always the same pitch. Sometimes slightly higher, and sometimes really high.

I just got a recent AMD Polaris card (RX 550) for Lenovo ThinkCentre M91p, and it simply doesn't boot with it. It doesn't even get to the starting splash screen with Lenovo logo. The monitor remains blank. I updated the BIOS to the last release I could find but it still didn't help. Can anything be done with it? It works with Nvidia cards, but I'm running Linux and want to use open drivers, so AMD is a much better option. I replaced the power supply by the way with better one.

I'd recommend going into the UEFI, which replaces the old BIOS standard, and resetting to optimal defaults, which will likely fix the issue. You also should update it, if you have access to a Windows system use rufus to format a bootable dos usb stick and copy the contents of the USB Drive UEFI BIOS Flash Package so you won't need Windows (or a CD) on the actual system to do updates. The current version is 58 vs the 43 you have on there now. By the way you can also use rufus to install Windows to a usb drive for 'Windows To Go' mode which is quite useful at times, especially if you don't want Windows on the system itself. You can download a Windows 10 iso directly from Microsoft's website and via rufus  'Windows To Go' mode isn't limited to just the Enterprise version. CHANGES for 9HKT58A/9HJT58A

Hello, Im sorry to say im in a urgent need for help.

I just upgraded my 1.3p4 256RDRAM to a New Biostar P4TPT motherboard, 1.8 P4, and 1 gig of DDR 3200 Ram.

I got the computer to turn on, and I get one single beep from computer, which i guess is a good thing. My overall plan is to get windows running, then do a restore disk to ME, then Run XP Pro setup from desktop since i don't have disk.

Well,,

It passes the biostar intro picture, then goes to Black background and white text.
It says....

Primary Master: IBM-DTLA-307045 Tx60AS06
Primary Slave: None
Secondary Master: None
Seconday Slave: LITE-ON LTR-24102B 5S54

I have a CD Burner currently installed, so im assuming Primary Master is my 40gig harddrive, and secondary Slave is my CD rom.
Not sure what Primary slave and Secondary master is....

Then it says under it...

Floppy disk(s) fail (40)

On bottom of screen it says...

Press F8 to enable system config
Press F9 to select booting device after POST
Press F1 to continue
Del to enter Setup

Well Im about 95% possitive that my Floppy drive is installed correctly, The wires seem to be plugged in snug.

well..
If I hit DEL it goes to this setup stuff, which im not sure what is what, but from what i hear i don't need to do that.

So when i hit F1 option This happens
I get black screen /white text

It gives me options such as Log in as Safe MOde, couple others i can't remember off the top of my head sorry.. THEN to log in as normal mode.

After trying all tips I could find in forums with no success I resigned to reinstall system yet again. So, I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 7559, and decided to upgrade it with another 8GB RAM and a 120GB 850 Evo SSD. Directly after installing these, upon boot I was taken to a white screen reading: "The amount of system memory may have changed" with the options of "Continue" "BIOS Setup" and "Diagnostics". When I continue, I am asked to chose my keyboard layout, and then am taken to a screen with an array of options, such as "Continue", "Troubleshoot", "Use a device", etc. I have tried many of the options and solutions I've found with some googling, but nothing is working. When I continue, I'm taken to a screen with a circular loading animation that reads "Preparing automatic repair...", and then I am taken back to the "Choose your keyboard layout" screen. I've ran the diagnostics, albeit to an extent (I have not completed the second part of the diagnostics reading the memory, which takes 5+ hours), but what was tested was a-okay. I have factory restored, and reset Windows 10. I am pretty certain that this isn't due to faulty hardware with the aftermarket installations I made, as the Samsung SSD and Crucial RAM both came from the manufacturer on Amazon, both products having 5 stars.

The beep codes tell you what the system can't find,or may be faulty.

I cleaned out an old desktop PC I had, a compaq presario (250G Hardrive and 512MB RAM with an AMD Sempron Processor 3400). It worked fine but when I went into the my computer section after trying to open the CD drive, the computer isn't even recognizing the CD drive at all.

I opened it up to blow out some of the dust out of it and maybe check if anything was not connected. Some bad advice later, a disconnect of the P2 cords going into the CD drive and a reconnect may have thrown the entire thing off of balance.

When trying to start it back up, black screen with a continuous beeping noise.

Which I vaguely recognize as a hardware error which could be related to the CD drive being disconnected and reconnected but I'm not sure.

Windows will not boot, just a black screen but all the lights are coming up on the tower and the fans coming on. When manually opening the CD drive I can see the laser light up but the green light on the outside of the CD drive isn't on at all.

After Disconnecting and reconnecting the cords the first time, I opened the CD drive and left it open. When the computer turned on the drive closed on it's own and the green light came back on.

Can anyone help? I hadn't used this PC in around a year or more and it was working until the whole CD drive thing.

Thanks.

removed the memory chips and cleaned the pins with a pencil rubber did help to get the system to boot. If the pins are to badly damaged with age invest in a new or good s/hand chips of the same value.

When I turn it on it makes clicking noises around the area where my cd drives are and the lights flash, then my keyboard lights all light up at once and blink together on and off. I have to press buttons on my keyboard to get it off black screen and make it boot. Once it logs in I can't use my mouse or keyboard, they won't work.

A:Won't Boot Right, beeping noises

Your title references beeping noises...when do thesse occur?

System manufacturer and model?

Before I get started, here are the specs of the problem PC: HP Pavilion, Nvidia 8400 series, intel viiv, on windows Vista home, service pack two. model number: m9040n, I'm pretty sure I have a 300-watt power supply, motherboard is unknown.

The story of is that a about month ago, my computer started having difficulty restarting. If you restarted, once it was back into the power up mode, it would almost immediately just start beeping. Now I know these are BIOS codes, but after tons of googling, I still have nothing. I have checked the bios databases of HP and here: http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm, but honestly, Im not sure what Im looking for. The code is beep, beep, beeeeeeeep. That repeats around 5-8 times, Im not sure. After that it goes into a series of quick beeps, finally a long beep, and just then just silence. While all this is happening, there is just a blank monitor, and thats just how the monitor stays. The whole system would remain unresponsive. And it wasn't just restarting, if I shut down, and then turned the power on within like 1 minute, I would get the error.

So I managed to make do by shutting down, waiting 5 minutes and then turning back on whenever I needed a restart. On other hand, I almost never turn my PC off, its usually just running. I only found out about this while uninstalling a program.

The reason I made this thread is because all the sudden things have taken a turn for the worse. Today the pc just sort of put itself into standbye ... Read more

my daughter has a computer that when she tries to boot it, it just sits there and continues beeping and don't stop. She tried a boot disk and it would not boot off that. Also apparently she can not get into the bios either. She is 200 miles away and want a good idea what to do before I go there. Don't want to waste a trip.

I cleaned out an old desktop PC I had, a compaq presario. It worked fine but when I went into the my computer section after trying to open the CD drive, the computer isn't even recognizing the CD drive at all.

Thanks.

I have a Dell inspiron 5000 running Win 98SE. Just got an external TDK velocd burner and a centon electronics USB 2.0 PCMCIA card.

After installing the driver for the card my computer began making an annoying, loud, two tone beep every time I boot up. There is a low tone followed immediately by a higher one. I'm sure I've heard this before but not sure where. I know my laptop wasn't doing this prior to installing this driver.

Any idea what could be causing this and/or if there's any way to fix it?

Thanks

O.K. i know this is only for Windows 8.I am stumped on an old PC's problem, wonder if any can help,ty.

I have an older computer that was not used for over a year.I recently hooked it up to use it.When i did i had no picture and continuous beeping from PC.
I tried dusting out inside of PC,cleaning and reseating the RAM and made sure all connection were tight and on.

Still the computer when turned on has no pic and beeps continuosly not in any pattern to tell you errors from the BIOS.

Some say could be video card,it was hooked to the integrated video card, but i also installed one in PCI slot and it does the same thing it beeps and no pic.
Also some say could be the battery or another hardware failure. If anybody knows what else i can try be much appreciated.

I am thinking of trying to sell it if i can get it working again it was working a year ago till i set it away because buying a new PC.

This is the model this site was no help.TY Gateway Support - 1009566*Gateway GM5472 Desktop Computer

A:computer won't boot and beeping

Could be one of many problems , RAM issues , CMOS battery dead , more than likely a hardware issue , unless there is a pattern to the beeps (long tones , set number of tones followed by a pause and then repeats) it's difficult to say for sure what is causing the issue...

All I can suggest if there is no pattern is try and re-seat all the hardware , try a new CMOS battery and replace the hardware with equivalents (if you have spares lying around) one by one till the issue is resolved.

A few weeks ago the mouse pad on my laptop froze. Pressing the key that brings up the start menu would unfreeze it, as would switching off the pad and switching it on again. After a few minutes it would freeze up again (but the system was still running, music was still playing etc). The first time this happened I tried rebooting the laptop, which is when the bios screen popped up and started screaming at me (continuous beeping, beeps all the same length). I had to hold down the power button to get it to stop. I tried removing the power cable and battery and holding the power button down, and I took out the RAM and put it back in again just in case it had magically dislodged itself, and after several attempts the laptop booted up as normal. It worked perfectly for weeks. Then last night the same thing happened again, mouse pad freeze, bios on startup. Except this time no amount of poking around is making it boot. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

This laptop is around 4 years old so it's pretty ancient and it gets a lot of use with graphics and videos, so I'm thinking it's probably just knackered. But since reseating the RAM worked the first time I'm wondering whether upgrading the RAM to 8gb would help? Or could it be the graphics card that's dying?

I'm using Acer Aspire 5742, Intel Core i5-450M, 4gb DDR3 ram, Windows 7

I have an intermittent failure to book. When this happens, the computer beeps constantly but does not turn on. If I turn off the back-up power and wait a few seconds, the computer boots OK when I turn it on. What is going on? Is this a serious problem? If so, how do I fix it?

I am using an HP Pavillion 8755c with Pentium III and 384 MB RAM. My OS is Windows XP Home Edition.

THANKS!

replaced the keyboard on an old laptop and annoyingly as soon as I turn it on, I get a horrific bleeping noise. It ends when the OS starts. Maybe BIOS is pissed off about the hardware being from another model? Maybe keyboard is screwed up? Otherwise, it works fine. I was considering ripping out the internal, motherboard speaker just to shut it up. What do you reckon guys?

My Mesh pc has a boot problem. When I switch it on there is a series of beeps ( five I think) in place of the normal one beep, the computer appears to start i.e hard drive activity light, power light OK but there is no output to the monitor. Sometimes if I press restart it will reboot OK other times not, sometimes i have to power down on the start button ie hold it in, then restart and it is then OK. The m/board is asus A8N SLI processor athlon 64 x2 dual 3800+ . I have 1GB ram in 2 seperate modules. I tried changing the keyboard and reseating the memory, no different.
There is a sequence to the beeps it is hard to make out but I think 2 quick then 3 long may describe it.The BIOS is a Phoenix AWARD type.
Any ideas anyone? Thanks

PC is a Dell Optiplex 330 running win 7. Problem is I start the computer,  and it goes through the series of beeps during the boot process, there is no display on the monitor.

I tried to decode the series of beep codes using dells chart, http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN143065/EN but can figure it out.

I made a recording, if anyone can figure out what this beep sequence is, I would appreciate the insight, I can't make it out. TIA- Kevin

A:Beeping Dell Optiplex at Boot

Those beeps are confusing. First, I need you to take off the side panel and inspect any boards with capacitors that look like any of these. (video also explains how those capacitor failures happen). If you see any, you need to replace your motherboard or solder some new ones on. If you don't see any, take the button cell battery out of the computer with the PC unplugged and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. If none of that works, I suggest it is a RAM or motherboard problem of some sort.

Daughters computer, MOBO Asus psa-b, Amd K6-2 500mhz, 128mb ram, Diamond stealth 3 s540 32mb ram, WD Caviar 172AA replacement, win98se.

She said it was making a chattering noise, she bumped it and then nothing.
I have it. Checked to see if all cables were not loose. The cpu fan runs, case s/w will not turn it on or off. the PS s/w turns it on in conjunction with the case s/w next, have to turn it off with the PS s/w.

3 fast beeps first then cantinous beep. Boot disk and WD Liftguard disk will not bring up any thing. just the continous beeping.

I just tryed it again to make sure of the beeping. It booted into windows.

Have not turned it off, am running Norton AV and repair now.

What do I do now?

Thanks Paul
