We have this problems with around 15 chromebooks and have reloaded. Any reason why it seems to be the same keys not working?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

we recently had a similar case here which conveniently solved itself. Are you able to test maybe one or two of the systems with an external keyboard to see if those letters and numbers are working and let us know please?

I have two HP ChromeBooks here, purchased in late '14, and recently both have had issues with their Trackpads, number one's Trackpad doesn't want to work at all, can only use the ChromeBook with a mouse connected. Number two's Trackpad works, yet it is difficult to click anything, it does click, if you hit it with the force of a hammer. Any suggestions welcome!

Is your chomebook still under warreny?  If ir is you can send it back to HP and they will send you a box to return the item.  If not I don't really know what to tell you.   You can try and manually rotate the keyboard and see if that will reset it otherwise you are SOOL  - sorry....

Hi thereThe touchpad on 3 of our 11" Chromebooks (11-2203TU)   has suddely stopped working this weekI have read every help sheet I can find on it and have restored the machines twice (tried powerwash as well)but have no luck.Mouse plugged in works.  Tried adjusting the touchpad settings as well. Any ideas please. Thanks Dave

I had my chromebook randomly shut off while I was using it, the model CB3-131.It wouldn't turn on until I hard reset it about an hour later, then when it turned on they keyboard would not work, except for the power button. Any idea on how to fix this?

We have 3 HP chromebooks for our business.  They all had an update done to them and now after a few minutes the mouse stops working and disappears.  We have to hold the power button to turn it off and when we turn them back on the same this happens.

I have had the notebook since Christmas but during the last 24 hours I began getting a faulty response on the y, u, h, j, n, and m keys.  Sometimes they would work on the first try, sometimes I would have to hold them down for several seconds before they would register.  Now they have all completely stopped working.  I looked on other forums but I cannot remove the battery from the laptop or do a hard restart since it operates on Chrome OS.   Is this just a cleaning problem or is there something possibly wrong with the technology inside? -Megan

Hello There, May I know if your webcam works or not? Because webcam and microphone share the same module, so it may be the cable got disconnected. If webcam works but Microphone fails, it might be other HW issue that requies HP's supports to check out; but no matter cable loosen or HW breakdown, both require tearing-down your device to do the repair. Thanks

chromebook not able to cast. Other devices like IPad IPhone OK. Windows 10 with firewall diabled OK. Chrome not able to cast. Chromecast tech support said issue with firewall on Chromebook. So it appears after doing some research that the 14"  HP Chromebook has a lot of issues with the keyboards not working. My daughters is a little over a year old and completely quit working today. I can't even power it off!  If this is a common issue why not own up to it and take care of this HP? I have a service plan through Walmart and they are sending me a package to mail it back in 5 days and then who know how long it will take to get it back from there. In the meantime my daughter will be so far behind in school and homework that she will likely never catch up this semester.  Ugh!  Extremely frustrating. My daughter is so upset and crying and she did nothing wrong!

I have had the HP chromebook for about 3 months and the numbers 6,7 letters m,n,u and sometimes random others do not work.  I cannot even log-in since my password contains one of the letters.  So frustrating and I do not think I am the only one.

Daughter's Chromebook is about a year or so old and the keyboard has stopped working properly.  Some keys work, others don't. Type the letter K and get Ki, type the letter s and get sxw, type the letter T and get nothing, and so forth. Tried the Refresh+Power thing but that failed to work. At one point thje keyboard began operating without being touched (!) which suggests a stuck button but couldn't tell which. We're wide open to suggestions.

I have a HP Chromebook 14-q070nr running ChromeOS version 35.0.1916.155.My touchpad has suddenly stopped working for no reason whatsoever. I've to use a mouse to work on my Chromebook now. When I unplug the mouse it says, "No mouse or touchpad detected."A few days before this ChromeOS received the version update but the touchpad was working fine right after the update. Try booting into recovery mode to see if the keyboard works when the OS isn't yet loaded. If that works then maybe a quick power wash will clear it up.

I have two chromebooks here with certain keys not working. One of the chromebooks is a 14-x000na, and the other is 14-x006na. On the 14-x000na, the 6, y, h, n, 7, u, j and m keys are not working, and on the 14-x006na the 8, i, k and , keys aren't working. I have reset to factory settings, but this didn't do anything. Any help would be appreciated, as warranty has ran out so HP won't help me. Thanks.

My Chromebook 13 isn't working without the charger plugged in.  The battery is charging fine, and currently is sitting at 100%.  I did a battery test and it came back at 100% health, and discharged 0.00%.  Anyone know how to fix this.  If I unplug the charging cable it immediately turns off and wont turn on unless the cable is in.  Thanks

I had a problem with my HP Chromebook's keys intermittently not working--the y, m, n, etc.  They would work, then not work, and it was very frustrating esp to log in b/c I could not get my password typed in. I thought I would need a new keyboard, but my wonderful ex husband thought we should try clean and reseat the keyboard connector to the motherboard.  The top panel assembly was removed (after removing the bottom case screws)..   ----see http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Chromebook-14-x000/7277301/model/7547744/product-info?lang=en... HE cleaned the keyboard connector with isopropyl alcohol, and re-connected that connector and it worked. This may not work for everyone, but try this b/f you buy a new keyboard.

I'm fixing a Acer Chromebook 15 Monitor Screen. When I boot up..the background is very dark and I have to use my phone flashlight to see that its been fully booted up. So I thought it was the screen that needs replacement. So I just replaced the monitor screen and its giving me the same thing, very dark. Do you think its the connection that needs to be replaced. By the way I did a full reinstallation of the operating system, so everything is brand new on boot up. Any suggestions what needs to be done to get this fixed. Thanks in advanced.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad 13 20GL Chromebook. The numbers on the keyboard, except for 5, are not working. I have done everything the forums suggest... and finally just did a Powerwash- Factory reset. The keys are still not working. My computer is only a few months old. Is there anything else I am not thinking of doing? It is currently under warranty. Should I just take it to a Lenovo authorized service provider? The closest one to me is an hour away. I would appreciate any help.

Okay, I'm sorry if this isn't the correct section for this question, but I'm in urgent need. The HP Chromebook I have currently isn't working. When I try to log in, whenever I type my password, it always puts in different characters then from what I typed in. Also, it will randomly shut off and has a struggle turning back on. To make matters worse, the up arrow key keeps glitching up. Please help.

I have a Chromebook that has suddenly disabled the use of the power button on the side. Because of this I am unable to reset to factory, enter developer mode, or Powerwash. This is a managed device. I have the ability to deprovision it throught the google console but I am afraid that once I do the power button still will not work but I wont be able to powerwash it to get it re-enrolled. Is there some way that a student could have disabled this button somehow?

I just received word that it's available.On the Chrome Recovery app, I'm able to see that it is there.

Hi there.

I'm doing this thread to once & for all find the ultimate answers to my PC issues. Before i bought my Lenovo Yoga 8 laptop i was thinking of buying a Google Chromebook. Specs might not be as high-end as a Windows PC but it loads a lot faster (having no such apps or enough background process to load in the background), apps load a lot faster, updates come automatically (and no need to download/intall like a PC), straighforward OS and no complicated hundreds of settings to tinker with unlike a PC. And besides a Chromebook is virus and malware-free forever.

I also happen to come from a Macbook Air and i found my PC is that slow. Downloading & installing apps takes a lot longer, opening or closing an app or browser or tasks also takes longer. But in the course i have made some research to improve the speed & performance of my Windows 8.1 laptop mainly:

1. Turned off bluetooth
2. Set Windows Update to automatic
3. Updated Windows Defender
4. Defrafgging my hard drive monthly

5. Choose Selective Startup (under msconfig) and made sure no apps are enabled under Startup, selected apps are running under Services, choose a higher number under Processors and maximum memory set to at least half of what my Lenovo is capable of (under Boot)
6. Set performance to High Performance.

So, What else have i missed?

A few weeks ago, my Chromebook began spontaneously powering down. I originally thought this was due to low battery, but after a few days I couldn't log on at all, even when battery was fully charged, or machine was plugged into the AC. Would get the password prompt and be able to enter the password okay, but then the machine would lock. Cursor still worked, but nothing responded, not even the onscreen "Shut Off" button. Only way to turn off the machine was to close lid or use the keyboard power button. Is there any way to fix this, or is this machine now dead? Thank you!
