BSOD Enabling 2nd Core(Processor) in BIOS crashes Startup

Q: BSOD Enabling 2nd Core(Processor) in BIOS crashes Startup

Greetings Everyone,

My laptop suddenly shut down and sometimes showing Whea_Uncorrectable_Error(BSOD) on loading while logo shows up but when I disable the second core and set it to "always low" my laptop boots normally. I tried to reinstall the heat sink with new Thermal Paste(maybe this is low quality TP) but still no luck

Some relevant info:
System specs: Toshiba Satellite L505-S6959, Windows 10 x64 Enterprise, Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6500, 4GB RAM DDR2, Insyde Bios 1.50

Blue Screen View has red highlight on hal.dll and ntoskrnl.exe

I think the cpu over heats or some software error
Please don't expect my reply immediately
Thanks for the reply in advance

Preferred Solution: BSOD Enabling 2nd Core(Processor) in BIOS crashes Startup

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Okay so Windows 7 64 bit system...has started acting weird (odd freezes, shuts down, etc) tried to run Malwarebytes and this causes system to crash. Checking event viewer shows a "processor core" error. Tried running jv16 to clean up some registry issues (there weren't many, like 11 registry issues) but that seemed to work fine.

System is still crashing and I can't figure out why, not getting a BSOD report just shuts down, I've left it running without doing anything and it has been on for 20+ minutes. However, if I try to do Windows update, or Malwarebytes etc it crashes almost immediately. I'm stumped anyone with any guesses or help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I'm going to post a couple pictures, if I can, of the error report in event viewer...If you cannot read the details of the attached image I can post them separately.

I unlocked my amd athlon II x3 445 to a phenom II x4 b45... I ran hwmonitor to see the temps, and my computer blue screened. I figured it was unstable because of this and reset the cmos in order to set it back to an athlon II x3. I set the bios settings to fail safe defaults and loaded up windows. I ran hwmonitor again to test it out, and a blue screen still occurred. Before I unlocked the 4th core I was able to use hwmonitor on a regular basis. I included the dmp file. I'm using windows 7 64 bit if that helps any. The dump file date will probably be wrong since resetting the cmos set my clock to 2001 XD...

A:hwmonitor causing bsod after resetting cmos/unlocking processor core

This one related to hardware. If we had more than one DMP we might be able to spot trends, etc.

Stop 0x124 is a hardware error

If you are overclocking try resetting your processor to standard settings and see if that helps.

If you continue to get BSOD here are some more things you may want to consider.

This is usually heat related, defective hardware, memory or even processor though it is"possible" that it is driver related (rare).

Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint.

Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress.
Generic "Stop 0x124" Troubleshooting Strategy:

1) Ensure that none of the hardware components are overclocked. Hardware that is driven beyond its design specifications - by overclocking - can malfunction in unpredictable ways.
2) Ensure that the machine is adequately cooled.
If there is any doubt, open up the side of the PC case (be mindful of any relevant warranty conditions!) and point a mains fan squarely at the motherboard. That will rule out most (lack of) cooling issues.
3) Update all hardware-related drivers: video, sound, RAID (if any), NIC... anything that interacts with a piece of hardware.
It is good practice to run ... Read more

I am looking to build my own PC as I can't afford 1,000+ to get someone to make one for me, I will be using it for gaming and communication and a little college work, I will probably be using Bullguard to protect it and OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Office with a Win 7 64bit OS.

Bearing this in mind what would be the best Processor for the Intel Core i5 3.4 GHz Quad-Core (BX80637I53570K) Processor and what would be the maximum Memory and Storage I could attach to it? ( I preferably want 8GB of Memory and 1tb of storage ) but I can be flexible.

A:What would be the best motherboard for a Intel Core i5 3.4 GHz Quad-Core (BX80637I53570K) Processor?

The CPU you want is the i5 3570K. That runs on the socket LGA 1155. When you are on a budget, any mid range mobo will suit your needs. Use the savings from the mobo towards a better HDD or even an SSD. You will also need a GPU.

I would recommend the ASUS P8Z77-V LK motherboard. As for RAM, 8GB is enough. As for the HDD, 1TB is great. I recommend the WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD.

Make sure you can get in a GPU.

about 2 years ago I have upgraded my computer with a new motherboard, rams and a processor and since we moved in between I cannot find the boxes or bills from that time.

The problem:
I am 90 percent sure, that at the time I wanted a quad core processor and my computer properties say that I have Intel Core i5-3450.
I googled around and all retailers as well as Intel list this processor as quad, but I whenever I use aplications where cores are displayed (i.e. playclaw or some kind of benchmarking), it only ever shows core 0 and core 1.
When I go to task manager > processes > and go to select affinity on a random process, once again only 2 cores are aviable to choose from.

Any ideas what might be causing this? Because if I am not mistaken I have had my computer on a leash for 2 years...

Okay, here is the scenario.
There are 2 laptops.
One has a 3.0GHz single core.
The other has a 1.5GHz dual core.
The thing I'm asking is: When you buy a laptop that says it's 2.66 GHz triple core, does that mean there are 3 processors each clocked at 2.66 GHz? Or does it mean that there are 3 processors and in total they add up to 2.66 GHz?
Also, is it better to have a 3.0 GHz single core or a 1.5 GHz dual core if you want to run games?

Secondly, in device manager, there is only 1 core with no option to select 2 or box for detect HAL.

I have processor box unchecked and have uninstalled my CPU from device manager in hopes a restard would re-detect it. I have also updated my mobo & vid card drivers from the site and updated my bios to the latest.

I'm having an issue with my CPU. It seems that it is only using one of its cores. This issue first became apparent to me when I was trying to run Blacklight Retribution. It popped up a warning message saying that my computer does not meet the minimum requirements of have at least a dual core. And indeed the game was unplayable, with single digit fps constantly.

However when i go to the performance tab of my task manager it shows 4 graphs, meaning that 4 cores must be running. Then I go the boot tab of my systems configuration, click on advanced options and underneath the "Number of Processors:" check box (which is unchecked), it shows 1 as the number of processors.

My processor is an Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.60GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.6GHz.

These seem to be conflicting and I'm not sure what to do. Please help me.

First and foremost thanks go out to anyone and everyone who can help me with this.

I've recently installed 7, clean install, not an upgrade. I have an Amd Athlon X2 3800+ installed and I installed 7 as a 64bit OS as well. I had this problem before 7 and could never solve it. The core doesn't show up in task manager and I've tried installing drivers from AMD, which say they are the incorrect version for the windows 7 Operating system so i installed them in compatibility mode which didn't seem to solve anything. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the processor and frankly I just don't know what to do! In Pc Wizard 2009, It tells me the number of cores is 2, but then only one core is enabled.

If anyone has any help for me that would be fantastic. Thank you! If you need any additional information please let me know.

Hey all,
I have some proprietary software that works great on a single-core processor. When I try to run it on a dual-core or above, the software loads, works once, and then messes up.

The software uses modems to dial out to our payphones. We found a work-around by turning off one processor in the bios, but then, what's the point of having a dual-core processor.

Please help. The software is doing this on Windows XP.

Can any body tell me the main diff between the core 2 duo processor and core 2 duo processor with centrino.

A:Diff between centrino processor and core 2 duo processor

In a word nothing, the centrino branding does not refer to any specific additions to the processor, it is simply a label that is attached to laptops which use intel branded processor, integrated graphics and wireless chips.

Centrino is more of a marketing tool that Intel use to boost sales of their graphics and wireless chips, so you can pretty much ignore it

Just as a heads up, if you find that thing from notebookforums.net or .com or something, don't link it plz, cause I tried it 3 times, and it left XP in a non-boot-able state and I had to run Ubuntu to undo everything. Or maybe I or the instructions are wrong, and they actually do work. Either way, help will be greatly appreciated.

I am not very smart with computers and I don't really know much about them, so if anyone requires any info please kindly tell me how to give you that info. My desktop is running windows XP professional and is pretty old. Lately for a while now, my computer tends to crash suddenly a couple minutes after starting up. Sometimes it crashes after 5 to 10 minutes, and then when I turn on the computer, it will just stand at a black screen and I am have to force shutdown by holding the power button. The crashes sometimes give me a BSOD, but the BSOD's are different almost every time. I may get Page_fault_in_Non_Paged_area, Irql_not_less_or_equal, driver_Irql_not_less_or_equal, and sometimes it may show some .sys files such as atapi.sys and etc. And sometimes it decides to crash during the startup. Also, after my computer crashes...lets say.... 7~15 times, it will then stop and I can use the computer normally.

Newbie here, I usually just looking at the forum to solve my pc problems or my friends'. I considered myself as someone who at least know generally what to do to fix pc problems. But for this case I give up and hope the good folks here could give me some clues.

There are 2 major issues here:

1. BSOD during Windows Startup
The problem
So after the loading screen loads up for some time (where you see the windows logo) it will then go straight to BSOD. This happens in random occurrence and happens like 70% of the time. Sometimes it won't go to windows at all, just keep on restarting for like 4 hours.
The error message is 0x101 "A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor..."
Some of the monitoring tools like hwmonitor sometimes also caused the same BSOD.
I think all the minidump files come from this error.

My solution
What I usually do is either let it reboot and pray that it goes through to windows
or I go through safe mode, uninstall the NVIDIA driver (using Display Driver Uninstaller), reboot to normal windows (it always reboot when the display driver is uninstalled), re-install the display driver and reboot. The 2nd method usually has increased chance of successfully going in to windows.

Possible root cause
- something wrong with GPU (bad copy), although I have used it around couple of months without problems whatsoever
- old PSU, unstable
- old processor

Possibly dismissed root cause
- This first happened when I started to try windows 8, thou... Read more

Go on opening out further until you get to the device itself. click on it and itwill highlight. In the right hand window there will be a very detailed descriptionof that device as in brand, speeds model number etc etc These are very detailedand are just what is needed for searching for drivers etc.

To get the PSU volts you need to select the Sensor button circled in yellow inthe pic for PSU testing do the same and scroll down the readout as in my pic towhere it has Nuvoton = yours might be a different section name / title. Postback apic of that please.

Ok so I have 2 laptops, the one mentioned here Supervirus and a new one. I was trying to see if swapping the hard drives would fix it, but it didn't. So I swapped them back and when I tried to turn on the new working computer I keep getting a BSOD flash for a split second before it crashes the laptop. swapping hard drives from one computer to another will 99% of the time never work. Drivers can cause all sorts of compatibility issue.

Hi there, I'm having issues with my Dell Inspiron 545MT. No matter what mode I start up my computer in (safe mode or regular settings), it'll have a BSOD during or after the Welcome screen. The BSOD seems to vary with each, ranging from IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL to SYSTEM_SERVICE_ERROR and sometimes doesn't display any. The STOP errors are also never constant. I can get into Safe Mode sometimes, but it's extremely random. Took around 20 tries to get in without getting BSOD'd.

The BSOD happened randomly one day while I was surfing the web. I haven't installed anything new within the past week or so or updated any drivers. Perfmon /report simply gives me an error so I can't include that in the zip file.

I've tried to narrow down the problem but my luck hasn't been too great. I tried testing my RAM one-by-one and they all seem to work fine. I removed the videocard and tried the built-in chipset and BSOD still occured. I disabled Hamachi and several hidden drivers but no luck.

My specs are as followed (in the bold)

? x86 (32-bit) or x64 ?
? What was original installed OS on system? Windows Vista
? Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? Received complementary Windows 7 upgrade disk with order of my computer

About 3 weeks ago, the computer started crashing with BSOD's, and frozen screens which would turn into a jumble of blue and white. Quite often, after these crashes, I couldn't even boot into bios for 15 minutes. The Memtest86 tests I've run show no errors. although I didn't run 10 passes like some here recommend. I ran about 2.5 passes for 3+ hours. I also have used a video graphics memory test from a Hirens boot CD and that also showed no errors. A WD HD diagnostic of the old WD disk didn't show any bad sectors.

Eventually I decided to use the HP recovery disks (burned from the old hard drive with the HP utility several months after I first started the computer), but after choosing recovery, I realized that their recovery meant reformatting the entire hard drive and wiping all my files. I stopped it after 4% and lost the boot record in the proces... Read more

Hello, new to the forum.

I've been having increasing problems with my Asus g73jh. Love the performance, but been having random crashes concerning video i assumed. Updated the graphics drivers as well as ran a bios flash on the laptop. The unit always has a problem with being moved and I just moved it for the first time in around 6 months (been using it connected to my screen in living room) to bring to class and it crashed with a page fault error when I arrived at class, then again with another bsod when I got home and unpacked it.

I recently replaced and upgraded my memory from 12GB to 32GB (using Cruicial.com)

Since then, I've been having all sorts of inconsistent problems ranging from Startup issues, BSOD, crashes, memory errors.

I ran it through MEMtest and it passed. Ran it through startup diagnostics and it passed.

Still unclear if i have the right drivers since Dell's web site for my PC is so poor with info.

It may be faster to do a clean install. So, I guess I'm here to ask how to prepare for a smooth clean install that won't take 3 days of wrestling with my PC. Any tips would be appreciated.

I'll post what info I think you all might need to know about my comp and I'll include the crash logs for the different types of events that I can find. It's really a mystery to me as to what driver or program is causing the issue. These are just a few of the crashes that I have on my computer it seems to contain errors with avg often in there I've been noticing and some driver. I manually went in and updated all of my drivers a few days ago and still nothing has fixed the issue.

1) What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?
2) Download BlueScreenView:
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply

Hi Please help. I have just replaced my motherboard on my computer to a asrock g41m-vs3. Using the existing hard drive as soon as the windows logo starts it will crash bluescreen for 2 secs.
Now the problem with that is by looking up on the net, I need to change the sata mode. But with this asrock motherboard I have no sata mode, Cant find it. Must be just been a cheap one. So I put that hard drive in another computer did the exact thing so I changed the sata mode From AHCI to IDE and it starts works perfect.

So there noway off getting it to work on the other computer without reinstalling everything. Problem is that I need all the programs to stay installed because I am a real estate and wont be able to get a new cd key till monday.

So I tried backing up on my other computer to an image. Then found another hard drive and went into recovery mode to install the image. I have got it on a USB external hard drive. So it finds it all I click the image and it straight away says system imaged restore failed. No disk that can be used for recovery the system disk can be found.

Starting to get very annoyed. Any suggestions would be great

I have a HP Envy 15 laptop, and I have recently upgraded to windows 10. After upgrading, I have experienced two BSOD failures, both with the same error code, which was a "VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE ". It also made reference to a .sys file, although I can't remember exactly which. After each of these crashes, I've needed to restore the BIOS using the HP_TOOLS utility. While I do have a fix, I would rather solve the problem causing these crashes.
Thanks in advance

Did you check the bios to see if the cpu was detected correctly? Check what the cpu temperature is showing as well. If it's too high check that the cpu cooler is on properly.

Lately there are weird things going on with my computer.

Firstly, on the 07/01/2014 I had a BSOD. Details below :
71d3160702ca3f91376bc753df0c5547.png (unfortunately my MiniDump folder is empty, so this is all I can provide)

And ever since then every time I come home, and turn my computer on, I log in and after approximately 5-10 minutes, the computer shuts it self down, or freezes and I have to boot it.

Usually, my computer shuts down when I start playing a game, and freezes when I just sit on the desktop, writing on skype etc.

I have completed a SFdebugFiles and I am attaching below (It doesnt let me upload msinfo32 file)

A:BSOD, Then random computer crashes when playing, freezes on startup.

Also, would reinstalling windows system be a solution ? I was thinking about doing it anyways

I had my laptop out for repairs, and when I got it back they had enabled the auto log on at startup. I don't like this because that way anyone could get into my computer when they turn it on.

How do I DIS-able this? I've found plenty of sites that enables it, but I don't want it on. Undoing the checkmark in the place that does it on Vista doesn't seem to do the trick.

Hey, I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but I really need some help. I recently purchased an Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 processor, and I haven't really had any problems or anything, but when I ran some online hardware scans, they listed my processor as an Intel Pentium ||| Xeon.......the E7200 is a 2.53 GHz device, and when I check my computer properties, it shows 2.53 GHz, so that seems to be alright. I don't know what to think, because I wasn't home when the technician assembled the computer, so I don't know what he installed. The packaging is all right, says Core 2 Duo and what-not, but these online scans are making me wonder....how can I check to see whether or not they're right?
Any help would be much appreciated.
