Mini DisplayPort cable won't fit on ThinkPad x260

Q: Mini DisplayPort cable won't fit on ThinkPad x260

I have a ThinkPad x260 laptop. I ordered the following two cables to connect to my monitors, but they don't fit: 1. Select Series Mini DisplayPort 1.2 to DisplayPort 1.2 Cable, 3ft. Product # 13372https://www.monoprice.com/Product?p_id=13372 Monoprice said this cable would work with the x260. 2. Mini DisplayPort 1.2 to DVI Active Adapter Cable, Mini DP to DVI (M/M), 1920 x 1080/1080p, 3 ft. Model Number: P586-003-DVI-V2http://www.provantage.com/tripp-lite-p586-003-dvi-v2~7TRPA2L1.htm The Mini DisplayPort connectors are 20-pin, but neither connector will fit on the port of the X260. It seems the right size, but it will not push on. Is the Mini DisplayPort connector on the x260 proprietary? Is it male or female? I would have ordered the cable from Lenovo, but my boss wants a 3-foot black cable, nothing else.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an ASUS MB169C+ external monitor that does not have an AC adapter and gets power through its USB-C slot. Digital input of this monitor is 'DisplayPort over USB-C' / DisplayPort Alt Mode. Hi.

I'm not sure about this since I don't have any of those device, but your question seems to be very interesting.

According to the cable you are listing it says "USB 3.1 Type-C to Mini DisplayPort" which may mean that from a computer with USB-C port you can connect a monitor with mini display port plug, but I'm not sure if it will work the other way.

Maybe someone with more experience with USB-C can reply this.

On my lenovo t530 I have a mini displayport adapter that I connect to my tv for home use. When I do NOT have the cable plugged in, I can play youtube videos just fine. When the cable is plugged IN, youtube videos do not load. They buffer, but they will not play. Netflix, hulu, and any other video software loads just fine. Picture is fine, audio is fine, but youtube videos exclusively do not work. What do I do?

edit: I have done some further research. When I close the lid on my laptop and the tv screen is the main display, youtube will not work. But if I have the lid open and my tv is the extended display, the same video loads just fine with the mini displayport cable in. I hope this helps!

I picked up a Skylake yoga 14 (model # 20FY0002US) and I'm not getting anything from the DVI or HDMI outputs on a mini-DP to HDMI/DP/DVI adapter. This is the particular adapter I tried:http://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-Thunderbolt-HDMI%C2%AE-Passive-Adapter/dp/B013Z71ZI0/ref=sr_1_9?ie... To be clear, the adapter offers DVI, HDMI, and DP outputs, only one of which works at a time. I'm not trying to plug three monitors into it. However, if I hook up a monitor via either the DVI or the HDMI outputs, the computer freezes for 15-60 seconds and nothing shows up on the external monitor. Drivers are all updated. I've tried the adapter on a Surface Pro 3 and it worked flawlessly. I've also tried it with multiple external monitors, so the problem is definitely with my ThinkPad. I've also tried DP1.1 and DP 1.2 versions of the adapter. Again, nothing out of the DVI or HDMI outputs.  Oddly enough, when I tried a simple mini-DP to VGA adapter, it worked.  What gives? This is a pretty important functionality to be missing...

I've tried two miniDP to DVI cables which neither worked.  I just bought an Apple miniDP to VGA adapter and that doesn't work either.  I've tested the monitors and they are good.  I'm assuming the cables are not the issue since I tried three.  I just read on another post that it is a design limitation that miniDP to HDMI or DVI do not work with this laptop.  I don't understand that.  However, it says that miniDP to VGA should work.  It clearly works for you.  Did you do anything other than plug the adapter in?

Hello! Im having a little problem with my docking station. ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3. Seems like the DisplayPort does not work. I use dual 1440p monitors from Phillips and want to connect both with DP as the DVI is single-link only. I have one of the monitors plugged in the MiniDP on the side of T430 so i got that working wich is nice.  Is there some kind of firmware or something i need to install to get the DP working on the docking station? Cant remember i have ever done this and as far as i know it ha never worked... Always used it with a single 24" monitor with VGA. Thanks.

This issue is driving me crazy!  I bought new DisplayPort Monitors for T430s ThinkPads using the Mini Dock Series 3 dock.  I have 4 identical laptops.  Same software and drivers with two Monitors.  One on the Dock DisplayPort and the other Monitor on the PC Mini DisplayPort.   Three laptops work perfectly.  The forth one blinks! I do have a newer T430s with the Invidia Graphics card that has the same symptoms, but I have come to the conclusion that Lenovo does not support multiple monitors with that version.  Lenovo, Please tell me there is a firmware update for the Type 4337 Mini Dock Series 3 dock.  I saw the link for the T540 dock firmware update.  Will it work on the Series 3 dock?

I recently bought an HP Envy 32 monitor and hooked it up to my Mac mini using a mini DisplayPort (i.e. Thunderbolt) to DisplayPort cable. The video works fine @ 2560x1440, but I have no sound. The sound output in system preferences mentions "The selected device has no output controls" for the Envy 32. The sound works fine when I use an HDMI cable, but then the resolution is limited to 1080p. The Mac mini is a mid 2011 model, which is capable of transferring audio via DisplayPort, as far aas I know. Any suggestion on how to solve this?

Are there any adapters to do this or ways to do this? I can't seem to find any.

I am buying new monitors, the dell u2414h. Now, while this does have hdmi, I will be connecting multiple monitors together to extend the display from the laptop to give me multiple screens. The problem with this is that it only works if you use displayport and not hdmi, so I need a way to convert the hdmi to displayport or mini displayport.

I will primarily be using these monitors with my laptop that has displayport, so that is why I am getting these monitors and that won't be a problem. I will most likely hook up other laptops to the monitors and hdmi is way more common from what I have seen on laptops than displayport and is why I need a way to go from hdmi to displayport or mini displayport.

Any ideas? Thanks.

A:Hdmi to Displayport/Mini Displayport

You can't, HDMI does not support daisy chaining in the manner that DisplayPort does and you can't use a simply adapter to go from HDMI to DisplayPort and get the features of DisplayPort.

Hi

Im new to this but I joined as I needed some help with a problem i'm facing when trying to connect my laptop to an external monitor using a mini display port to VGA adapter.

When I try to connect my laptop to my external monitor with the adapter, my external monitor does not detect anything however when I connect to the external monitor with the adapter and the laptop connected with a dvi to hdmi cable the monitor detects the signal. I somehow managed to get to work once but don't know how

The problem i'm facing is that the mini display port to vga connector wont connect to the display on its own it needs the laptop to be connected with the dvi to hdmi cable aswell as the adapter but the hdmi cable needs to be plugged in to the back of my playstation.
My laptop is a Dell Xps 15 with nvidia graphics and intel

Any Help is much appreciated
Thanks

A:Mini Displayport to VGA problem

VGA is analog only and I'm not sure if DisplayPort can do analog and digital, but it's primarily intended for digital. DVI and HDMI (which is just DVI plus audio on a different connector head) can do both analog and digital. So assuming that DP can do analog, you'd probably need to find a way to make the GPU specifically output an analog signal. You'd probably be better off either A) getting a new monitor that can handle DisplayPort or at least DVI/HDMI and using that or B) checking a place like Amazon for an active signal converter, which is what the laptop is doing now. You can't passively convert a digital signal to analog, you need a powered device. Plenty of people will be quite happy to sell you an adapter that just connects the different pins, but it won't do you any good because you're just sending a digital signal over a cable where the device on the other end is going to be expecting analog.

Hi, Last week I got an L570 as my first Thinkpad, and directly tried to connect it to my main screen, a 4K display. Unfortunately, I only get FullHD resolution, not 3840x2160.The display is attached to the mini Displayport using an adapter to HDMI. I have tried 4 different adapters now, and all of them only provide FullHD. The Intel Graphics Settings tool detects the external display and also detects that higher resolutions such as 4K are supported. However, I cannot select any resolution higher than FullHD from the options. When creating a custom resolution, I always get the error  "The custom resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity". This is not only the case for 4K resolution but any other one as well. I hav used a Surface Pro 3 before, and connected the display with the same adapters without any issues. The Surface has an 4th gen i3, and now the Thinkpad's i5-7200 does not manage to output 4K. Hi

As the title indicates i'm on the lookout for a new mini displayport equipped graphics card to fit in my Win 7 desktop pc to connect to a 24" LED Apple Cinema display (on order) which obviously uses a mini displayport connector. I won't be gaming, just 2D CAD work and would prefer a low power, quiet GPU. After a lot of research decided on the single slot 1GB XFX ATI HD 5770 GDDR5 card but just read a review on newegg which mentioned that this card causes the 24" Apple Cinema Display to flicker in Windows 7...so now a bit hesitant Also came across the 512mb AMD FirePro 2460 but this is about $300!!! Any other recommendations?

Thanks

A:Looking for a basic GPU equipped with mini displayport

Stick with the 5770 or go to the 5870. The screen flicker you refer to has to do with the refresh rate not set correctly. When you have all you parts up and running try the different refresh rates...that should fix it.

But... when I plug the camera and the laptop together the camera doesn't show up as a webcam. Does that mean that the mini displayport is output only, or can it also accept input and something else is wrong?  Thanks for any help on this, Chris PS, connecting to usb to use the camera as a webcam not an option for some reason, according to Sony. Everything worked fine until in the middle of watching TV (notebook was connected to the TV via mini displayport to hdmi adapter) something went wrong and since then the port is not identified... the vga port works fine but the mini displayport just stopped recognising whenever a cable is plugged into it...

How can I reinstall the port itself?
I tried reinstalling the display driver but it didn't help, I thought of maybe reinstalling the chipset utility but I don't know what it means and what's the danger...

I used another cable, still does not work. I know that the screen DP is OK, since I am using it with my older laptop (Lenovo X220), and I get a perfect high-resolution display. Also, I know that the mini DP on the X1 is not completely "dead", since when I connect it to the screen HDMI entry with a dedicated mini DP to HDMI connector, it works OK. I followed the instructions in the user manual re updating the monitor driver, etc. The problem still exists. I will appreciate any help with this problem, Thanks Ben

Wondering if anyone else has/had this problem?  I have a Lenovo Twist Ultrabook.  I believe it is also listed as a Thinkpad S230.  It has both a displayport and an HDMI port.  I have the displayport connected to a monitor using a DP-HDMI cable, and the HDMI port connected to an older monitor using an HDMI-DVI cable.  Either one will work on its own, but when both are connected both screens immediately go black. I also tried using an HDMI splitter cable on the HDMI port.  It works, but the display will only show mirror mode - not extended mode. When I look in the BIOS for display settings, it gives me 3 options: the local screen, and then to select either of the ports (but not both!) when docked. Anyone have any ideas? any feedback or suggestions greatly appreciated!

I just bought a used graphics card (Radeon HD 6870) because it has mini displayports for the sole purpose of connecting to my Apple Cinema Display (LED version).

I've tried inserting the mdp that comes out of the ACD into the graphics card and nothing happens. At all.

The graphics card itself works just fine when I use the DVI to my dell.

I'm not sure if it's the ACD not being compatible or the ports being inactive/dead. I'm not sure how to test for the latter since I don't have any other mdp devices.

I'm really stumped. I want to clear up my desk and just use my ACD alone.

Hello. I recently bought a StarTech MDP2VGA Mini Display Port to VGA Video Adapter Converter for my laptop, as I had a perfectly good monitor sitting in my closet that I had the idea to use as a second (extended desktop) monitor, but no VGA port built into the laptop.

Everything seems to be working great with good quality results, except for one thing, which is Sleep Mode. 9 Times out of 10 whenever the laptop goes to sleep, be it by a set time of inactivity, closing the cover, or manually telling the machine to go to sleep, when I wake it up, I get the ?blue screen of death? on my primary (laptop) display, which most of the time displays a heading of ?BAD_POOL_HEADER?, with the only way out to force the computer to shut down.

My specs are:

Computer:

? Dell XPS L702X

Display Adaptors:
? Intel (R) HD Graphics Family

? StarTech.com MDP2VGA Mini DisplayPort to VGA Video Adapter Converter

Second Monitor:

The Graphic card seems normal, and the mini displayport works, but how can a mini displayport connection makes the CPU usage high? Thank you!

My laptop model is Lenovo ThinkPad T440. I am currently running Windows 8.1 64-bit. I've searched in the User Guide ThinkPad T440 for the "displayport" keyword and unfortunately didn't find any information about the DisplayPort version. I would like to know what is my mini DisplayPort version ASAP.

I can't get my W540 to output more than 1080 x 1920. It has a K1100M in it, it is driving teh external monitor accrding to the Nvidia Control Panel. I am trying to connect to a Samsung 4K TV.One active adapter from Startech works, but it seems to be limited to 1080 x 1920. The Nvidia Control Panel only shows drop down choices up to 1080 x 1920  at 60 Hz. I tried 2 other adapters that claim to be able to go to 4K at 60 Hz, but when I hot plug them into the W540 the screen goes black and starts blinking on and off. If I start it up with the adapter connected, the flashing black screen starts as soon as I log on.Any ideas?

Hiya. If I connect a monitor to my W541 mini DisplayPort, I'm able to use multiple monitors- everything works as expected, and the system is stable. If I connect first a firewire device (I've a few- a Belkin Thunderbolt dock and a Promise Thunderbolt RAID array) and daisy chain the monitor on THAT, I get bluescreens (error often seen is VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR and no dump file). The Lenovo supplied driver won't allow Factorio to start, so I've upgraded, but I can demonstrate blue-screens with modern software or the old drivers Lenovo supplies. Is this a limitation of the Thunderbolt/mini DisplayPort on the W541? That I can only connect a monitor directly to the mini DisplayPort? I've tried Advanced options, reducing the RAM for the Intel card, but always, the NVIDIA drivers error (even when they're not supposed to be "used."). I run the same configuration on my P70 and have no issues related to video on that machine.

I have a Dell Latitude E7440 ultrabook running Windows 10 x64 version 1607I bought a 3-port mini DisplayPort adapter to allow me to connect up a DVI-D monitor or a VGA device.I find that the adapter only works if I connect a VGA monitor and that its DVI (A or D) and HDMI outputs produce nothing - no device is detected under any scenario - hot-plug/re-boot connected/connected on driver re-installThe support matrix of the Intel HD4400 graphics on this model is unclear - I can't find any support info that describes exactly what type of monitor the mDP port can drive and under what connection scenarios.I presume that it must support DisplayPort monitors without an adapter and that it also supports VGA via an adaptor to meet the requirement to deploy to older projectors. However, it is marketed and badged as having a dual-mode Display Port, so should support single DVI-D and HDMI lanes to be compliant with the DisplayPort spec. - yet it appears not to.I have the latest Dell version of the Intel video driver installed - which, at the time of writing, isVideo_Driver_G7Y13_WN32_20.19.15.4531_A05I tried to install a newer vanilla-Intel version ofwin64_154036.4703but the installer failed with an error message about the manufacturer requiring modified drivers, so I did not pursue the matter further. I don't want to lose functionality by trying a non-Dell version. The separate HDMI port will drive an HDMI monitor (LG W2261V)I have the latest BIOS.

Does the mini displayport on the Satellite Pro S500 also carry audio?

A:Satellite Pro S500 - Mini displayport also carry audio?

Hi buddy,

Which display port you mean exactly?

The only display port that carries audio too is the HDMI port.
For all other display ports like VGA, DVI, S-Video, etc. you need an additional cable for audio.

Assuming your monitor has speakers and you want to play sound through them, you have to set "Playback Devices" to the nVidia HDMI device that connects to your speakers (i.e. your monitor is shown as the connected device).

Right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray and select "Playbackevices" to get the dialog. The miniDP connector is considered "HDMI" in the dialog for device selection.

I use a miniDP->DP cable, since my Eizo monitor has DP but not HDMI.  But it does have speakers.  And DP, like HDMI, carries both audio and video.

Note that I do not use internal HD graphics, nor do I use Optimus. I have "discrete graphics" selected in the BIOS and Optimus disabled.  I also have the latest 332.50 nVidia driver installed, not the Lenovo Optimus driver, for my K1000M.

I have an original series HP Spectre x360 13-4003dx with Windows 10. I cannot connect a vga display to the x360 Mini DisplayPort. I am using a miniDisplayport to vga cable from CableDeconn. Typing (Windows) + P, I try to switch to dual displays, either mirrored or extended, and also try to click on "detect display" but get the error message, cannot detect. i have rolled back the graphic drivers to the original install, and also updated to the most recent. Neither works. I also removed pin 9 from the VGA side of the cable (15 pin cable, reduced to 14 pin).  I removed the pin because I heard that some cables send voltage thru that pin, and shouldn't. Nothing works. i have tried it on a Planar vga only monitor, a Samsung VGA monitor, and an LG TV (vga connector), all of which work with other equipment.  The hdmi to hdmi connection works just fine. i have spent hours and am very frustrated.  Any hints or help is  greatly appreciated.  I'm about to go to the dark side (Apple). Please don't let me do it! Everything works so much easier (but with less flexibility and sooo much more money).

Good morning,I have a DELL XPS 15 laptop for photography, with a great Ultrasharp U2713H (not HM).I have to use a mini-DP to DP converter cable in order to connect them together, and it worked very good until I upgraded my OS from Windows 8.1 to 10 last year.Since this upgrade, the communication between my computer and the monitor is just completely not working. The monitor says "entrer en economiser puissance" (I'm french). The HDMI connection works just fine, but is unable to give me the full WQHD resolution.I tried 2 differents mini-DP to DP cables with the same results. My laptop doesn't even show the external monitor on the display settings window, and the "fn" quick launch for screen sharing options doesn't solved the problem at all.I have updated the Intel HD4000 driver, and the Nvidia GT630M driver, but the problem is still here.At the begining I thought this problem will probably be solved quickly by a DELL driver release, but nothing happened, and I'm stuck for almost one year now, trying to solve this apparently "tiny problem".... And apparently I am not the only DELL user experiencing this issue, almost all the people with the same problem have downgraded to 8.1 or 7 and the problem was solved, but I don't want to go back to 8.1  because I really don't like this windows version...

And a side question is "Only Laptop" mean there is no adapter ? Could anyone please help me to clearify what do these tag names mean? Thank you.

A:Thinkpad x260 TS FD meaning

Hello and welcomeI'm not a Lenovo representative, but definitely TS means TopSeller, FD in the short lsptop specification means the type of display - FHD. "Only laptop" might mean accessories (like additional cable) missing. Of course, AC charger should be in the pack.Original laptop specification is below:http://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/ThinkPad_X260?M=20F60093US

So on On the monitor side, Its a displayport 1.2...but on the graphics card side it's a displayport 1.4a. I was wondering if I could use any displayport cable to connect the two...basically if they are backwards compatible with each other.

Thanks

A:DisplayPort Cable

Yes, they are compatible, just use any DisplayPort cable.

Having received a brand-new P51 directly from Lenovo, i am facing major issues attaching external monitors.Win10 image from factory, all windows updates, all driver updates as recommended by Lenovo companion. Manually reinstalled graphics drivers, driver update using windows does not detect newer ones. Latest BIOS (1.15). Upon suggestion of lenovo changed BIOS mode from hyprid to discrete.I have these two issues from day 1:When i attach a monitor using the right hand side mini displayport, it is not recognized. Monitor stays in stand-by, no sound played, nothing happens. Inserting the same cable into the port of a W540 (Win 8.1) monitor immediately wakes up and can be used up to its full resolution (3440x1440).inserting laptop into ultradock (230W) it only recognizes one attached monitor. BIOS password entry lock was not shown on external monitor when lid was closed, needed to enter "blind" and press enter, only upon windows boot the monitor (Lenovo 27") was recognized. i think after changing to discrete mode now it showed the lock symbol when starting with closed lid. but still no second monitor is recognized. This is the first thinkpad in my history where such basic things do not work at all.I noticed once i had Intel and Nvidia context menu items when presing right mouse botton on desktop screen, now i only have "Nvidia Control Panel" and "nView Desktop Manager" shown. Which may or may not be ok. Lenovo seems not to be able to help - they are quite anxious to get it so... Read more
