Blue Screen of death

Q: Blue Screen of death

I have a dell precision m4700 with 32gig of ram. For some reason it will crash with the blue screen of death regularly. I get message about PRN LIST, MEMORY MANAGEMENT and things like that. I did a search on the internet and certain programs were recommended to fix it but nothing works. I alway update my drivers and use strong security software. Whats the problem? Hardware failure?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

In need of serious help.*
To begin, I am stupid and haven't backed up any of my files so for now a windows reinstall is out of the question. (unless it's completely necessary) okay, so the problem: I was using my computer as normal. Then while on Google Chrome, it started getting slow and said "not responding" this happens all the time, to everyone so I waited and then the dreaded Blue screen of death appeared. Didn't get a look at what it said because it shut down almost immediately. After that it loaded as normal? Which is weird, I think. But got stuck after startup on the black screen of death. All I have is a cursor. Can't do ctrl+alt+del, can't load any of the safe modes. When I go on startup repair, it says "no restore points" on system restore and "could not detect a problem" on system repair or whatever it's called. There must be something to fix this?! :/ I live in hope that the whole system doesn't need to be wiped clean because as I said, I stupidly haven"t backed up my files.*

Can anyone help?? Please?

this sounds like it should be a BSOD thread, post a seperate thread in the BSOD section following the posting instructions for BSODs, make sure you include the dump files, if you don't know how to do that, it should tell you in the BSOD posting instructions.

Hello everyone.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L450D-13X computer for the kids, and for the price it's a good laptop. Have had no issues with it until two weeks ago when the screen froze for the boys whilst playing a game and downloading a program from the net. Had to do a force shutdown and since then we have a BSoD on every boot-up. This is what we have tried:

On 'Starting Windows' we are given an option of either 'Launch Startup Repair' which ends up as BSoD or 'Start Windows Normally' which reverts back to the 'Starting Windows' option list.
Any attempt to enter 'Safe Mode' results in BSoD.
Attempting to boot an ISO of the Windows Recovery Disk on a USB key (we did highlight it and promote it to the top) results in BSoD. Borrowing a proper Window 7 installation DVD and highlighting this as an option results in BSoD.

In fact, the only option we used that threw up something different was using advanced boot options. On one of these options we got the Blue Screen of Death with the following information:

Disable Bios Memory Options such as caching/shadowing

I don't mind erasing the hard drive and starting again, there's nothing on it that's critical. I'd very, very much appreciate a steer on this. Checked the web for stuff and nothing seems to assist in any other options. I am not particularly tech literate but can follow instructions.

Last month, kept getting blue screen of death with various errors at bottom: MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Been happening sporadically before but amped up last month for a few days. Stopped until last night, this time I got an orange screen of death and the error was CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION (win32kfull.sys).

Today I booted my computer up to be promoted with a black screen, I gave it a good half an hour before forcing it to shutdown, to which when I booted it back up. Was then promoted with a blue screen about the video card not being able to lead, that happened twice.

I then booted it into safe mode, fiddled around with the drivers to see what was going on, after restarting it again, I got the same black screen, this kept on happening. I then concluded my best solution was to install XP, this worked the video card runs. So the card is not dead, but there are multiple blue lines going down the screen in 4 columns. After going into the device manager I saw that it claimed it was not installed, then I went to Google and downloaded the driver, after installing the computers goes to the same black screen that I got on windows 7.

I have no clue what the problem is, so any help would be most appreciated. Also I tried installing Linux, but after getting though then loading screen of the installer, it goes to the black screen. At the moment in am on my tablet so sorry if there are so many mistakes. I'll try and get some photos of how it looks.

PC Specs:

- Dell Dimension E520
- Intel pentium D
- 2gb Ram
- Nvidia Geforce 7300 LE

Thank you, any help will be hugely appreciated.

Sean Hall.

A:Geforce 7300 LE - Blue screen of death - Multiple lines down screen.

Hi Sean,

I don't like to say it, but it sounds like the graphics card is dead. I had the same issue on an old 8800gts, it would work until I installed the drivers, then I would get very bad artifacts/lines down the screen.
I tried it on 2 different PC's with the same end result once the drivers were installed.

Just today, I turned on my computer and got the blue screen of death, so I restarted my PC. Then a black screen came up saying "Windows could not start beacuse the following file is missing or corrupt : \windows\system32\config\system."

You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...

Now when i turn on my computer there is just a black screen showing, with nothing at all on it.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks very much for your help.

A:Blue screen of death, boot problems, black screen startup

It's a nasty error that requires some persistance and resourcefullness to overcome without a clean install.

If you have a Windows CD or have the recovery console installed, you might want to have a go at these directions.

Hi, thanks for checking my question. I haven't found an answer to my particular situation:

Dell xps m1430 laptop w/vista (32).

It all started with a blue screen w/scrolling text after the fated restart. The blue screen text said "if this is the first time you've seen this message..." and then comp restarted, again showing the blue screen, then restarted into windows repair mode, after repair mode tried to fix the problem comp restarted, then the screen went black / blank right after the little windows loading animation (where the bar keeps moving from left to right and there's a small windows logo).
It all happened fast, so there may have been steps I forgot, but that's the jist of it.

Now screen always goes black / blank during startup after the windows loading animation, so I can't start windows in normal mode.
I can start in safe mode if I manually force shutdown by holding the power button, so I'm not imploding with fear... ok I am.

Possible causes:
1. This occured right after installing 11 vista updates (that restart was when I saw the blue screen)

2. Also occured the restart after running a patch called "Vista TCP/IP and UAC AutoPatch 6.0" I downloaded it from softpedia, the developer was listed as defcon, and their website listed was securevista.net, but the site is down(I found this out after the problem occured). The patch had lots of positive reviews, and lots of people on other sites also suggest using it to re... Read more

I have a Dell Latitude 5175 (Core m5-6Y57, 8GB ram, 256GB SSD) which bluescreens during full screen video playback such as Netflix or Windows media player with a Driver_power_state_failure, it doesn't happen straight away but usually after around 10-15 minutes usage.

I checked the minidump file which suggested the Intel graphics card driver was to blame, I updated that to the latest one from Dell which made no difference, updated the chipset driver, bios and then installed the latest graphics card driver from Intel again with no difference, if anything it's worse now.  The issue also occurs when the tablet is docked or when it's not docked although in normal day to day usage, it seems fine.

I've found references to this problem on some other machines, noticeably the Surface Pro 4's but not really any solution.  The next step is to try a clean build but thought I'd see if there's anything else I can try first.  The machine is out of warranty and while it's always occurred I've just lived with it as I incorrectly through the PC had a three year warranty.

Before i describe the problem i would like to make it clear that i would like to recover as much as possible. This problem occurred playing a game called Empires V2.1. It is a steam half 2-death match mod. I had problems in the past however i didn't not consider them problems the screen froze when the game changed map. However when it froze it wouldn't respond to Ctrl+Alt+Delete or Ctrl+Esc or the start menu button. I pressed the power button and restarted it that way. However this is when the problem occurs and i can't over come it. It starts with a normal dell screen and the loading bar crosses at the bottom as normal. Then it goes to a black page with a blue line across the top with white writing saying www.dell.com. A line (programming maybe it appears and disappears rapidly). It then goes to a black screen saying something along the lines of We are sorry for the inconvenience but windows failed to start properly. It then gives you options and no matter which option I choose I still get a blue of screen of death saying the following;

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to you computer. If this is the time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this appears again, follow these steps;

This is what someone else wrote in another topic: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/741250-windows-warning-message-win32-adware.html

"I just got through fixing this (I hope). I have a computer running Windows 7. Last night the computer was running fine. This morning when I turn it on, i get a black screen. To fix the problem I conducted a system restore. After it finished restoring, the computer restarts and everything worked fine. To make sure if everything was in working order, I restart it again. After the "Starting Windows" screens comes up, I get the Blue Screen of Death. I can't even read what the error says because the computer just restarts itself. I did not connect anything new to the computer. I performed a hardware diagnostics to see if it was a hardware failure but no error was found. I can't even get into safe mode. The SFC.exe will be my next step.

Hi, I've been going through some problems with windows, I'll try to be the more clear and organized I can, let's start with my config and the symptoms I'm getting:PC Config:Core2Duo E6550GA P35 DS3 (rev.2.0)2x 1GB DDR2 800Mhz Kingston (in dual channel)GeForce 7200GS 256mb (512mb with turbo cache)HD321KJ Samsung Hard DriveSamsung SH-S203B DVD driveCorsair VX450W Power SupplyOS: Windows XP Pro x64 SP2 (I upgraded to sp2 just yesterday, before that I was running sp1)Symptoms: There are three types of symptoms, the most common is the pc simply restarting, note that I've already disabled the "automatically restart" in the system properties window and it keeps happening, other is the screen freezing, and then I have to restart it, and the last and less common is the famous Blue Screen of Death, also, but for only two times, instead of the freeze or the blue screen I got an empty black screen. All these types of crashes can happen independently of what I'm doing, It has happened while burning dvds with Nero, scanning with anti-virus, browsing the net, or even while I'm asleep and only the bittorrent client is up. Though, there is one peculiarity I think should be important, there's one program, the VirtualDubMod (build 2540/release), which is used for various kinds of video manipulating jobs, that every time I'm enconding a video with it, there is a crash, and I'm convinced it's not only coincidence, cause I have tried a... Hi guys.I'm new in the forum and I'm glad I'm part of the community. I would be very happy if You help me solve my problem

I have annoying Blue Screen of Death problem. Recently i was using linux but unfortunately i erased all my data on HDD with Gparted. Three partitions were gone and 500 GB HDD was unlocated space. Anyway I recovered them and formatted C drive which is 40 gigabytes. I installed windows XP SP3, drivers etc.

Yesterday I tried to install GTA 4. I mounted the first DVD with daemon tools. No problem. Then the second DVD. Again everything was O.K.. But then when it required the first DVD - error and BSOD appeared with error: fltMgr.sys

So, I cleaned the registry, ran CHKDSK on my 3 partitions and used mainly Advanced system care 5, TuneUp Utilities 2011 and AVG PC Tuneup 2011 to repair my computer.

I thought it will be ok from now on but again it failed on the end of GTA 4 installation. I thought it the problem was in daemon tools [latest lite version] and installed alcohol 52%. Again it failed on the end of installation.

I began "investigation" and found some clues to solve this problem.
1. I noticed when i right click on C: or D: ->> Security that special permissions checkbox was not active.

...and sharing was enable. I don't know if this is ok ?

2. I remembered in the past that after installation of GTA 4 other programs are being installed. One of them was microsoft c++ redistributable or something like... Read more

Not exactly as advanced with computers as I initially thought. Eariler today my computer was shutting off and on. The first time, I was surfing a sports news website(KFFL) and it restarted on me. Restart, come back on, restart, come back on....I don't know why.

Nevertheless, I went to turn off "Automactically restart" in the avanced properties so I could see the error. At that point I recieved this error towards the bottom of the screen:

I believe a stop error is a driver problem. The last time I had one I ended up reinstalling XP. You could try booting up in safe mode. If you can't boot up in safe mode try booting from your XP CD and doing a repair. If you do get into windows you may want to check this setting.
Disabling the restart on system failure feature:
Right-click on My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab.
Under Startup & Recovery, click Settings.
Under System Failure, uncheck the box in front of Automatically restart.

Then I went to play a video on Windows Media Player and I got a blue screen that said it needed to update and to download now. I clicked on it and immediately it went into a BSOD. Now when I try to boot into safe mode I get the Page Fault in Nonpaged area and when I try to boot up in normal mode or last known good configuration I get the IRQL Less or Equal error. Please help me!!!

Just bought a brand new Samsung RF711 laptop
Running on Windows 7
64 bit OS
Intel (R) Core(TM)i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20Ghz 2.20 GHz
Every so often i hear a series of click, the laptop then freezes and I get a Blue Screen of Death
I then have to totally switch off the laptop to start again

If it's new it should be under warranty, clicking sound is usually the harddrive failing. Backup any data that you want to save right away and contact Samsung.

The bugchecks from the 10 dumps vary.

Two noteable items from the software side -

1. This UltraISO driver is old. Remove the app -

ISODrv64.sys Fri Nov 24 22:44:22 2006 (4567BC16) - Ultra ISO
2. Remove KIS from your system --> KIS Removal -- jcgriff2.com

I saw another post with the same problem as I have, which is my computer will not start in normal or safe mode. I just get the BSOD and the error code STOP: 0x0000007B (0xB84C7524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). I assume this is a virus of sorts, but I have been getting the BSOD periodically for a while now.

I have taken a few initiative steps to help speed up the diagnosis process and make your job a little easier...I hope.

What I did was follow the instructions of the other BSOD post and created a boot CD with PE Builder and scanned my hard drive with OTLPE from a flash drive.

I have the two files (OTL.txt and Extras.txt) that were produced from the scan and will post them if they are what you are wanting. If not, please let me know what you would like me to do.

Thanks in advance for any help you are able to give.

Point #1: It is never wise...to take specific information given to and applied by one person...with malware...and try to use it as you attempt to correct your own malware situation. The variables are too many to enumerate and it is my opinion that it is dubious that your situation truly parallels that of the person for whom the advice was intended.

Point #2: All malware logs (DDS, OTL, HJT, CF) are not to be posted in any forum other than the BC Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum22.html .

If you wish to post a malware log, please read and follow Steps 6-9 of the Preparation Guide, Before Using Malware Removal Tools and Requesting Help - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic34773.html .

By doing the above, you will get the benefit of those who are trained and experienced in dealing with malware situations...while this is not possible here in the XP forum.

I currently can not start my computer without getting a (blue screen of death) stop error code: 0x0000007E. I can not even start it in safe mode. I believe this happened because I was on a site that tried to automatically download something but I could not cancle it, so I clicked yes believing that a box would popup asking if I wanted to proceed but it did not and the computer crashed and I have not been able to start it since.

If you have any ways to help I would greatly appreciate it.

In case it might have relevance to this issue, I had created a thread re: new hard drive and XP Pro SP2 at http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=108869

I have had the Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) pop up twice this morning. I rebooted in safe mode. Restored and the laptop works fine as of now. But I would still like to know what caused this and what should be done.

The error code/message:

*** STOP ERROR: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xEF8B3B52, 0xF8956400, 0xF89560FC)

Hoping someone can throw some light (not blue, pleaaase!!) on this.

On my 2nd computer Im getting an unrecoverable Blue Screen of Death...Ive googled some info about the error (tbcspud.sys) and found that it could be from the Santa Cruz sound/video card.
But I cant get past this screen (photo attached)
First it runs ChkDsk then the B.S.O.D.
If I try Safe Mode It just stops as its loading
During ChkDsk,it says I can skip it by pressing any key, however that doesnt work at all...no keys stop the process
I suppose I will be told to boot from my XP disk but i dont have one...Is there anything else I can do?
I have been inside pc's to rebuild and install different components so Im not afraid to go in there if necessary

A:Blue Screen of Death!!!

If you suspect an add-on card is the problem, remove it and anything else that`s not essential for startup including multiple RAM sticks obviously leaving one in place, then try booting up. If it works okay, replace one card at a time until it doesn`t boot.

Hi, lately when ive been playing a game for about an hour my pc displays a bluescreen and the reboots. When it starts up it shows, error reporting. i go to it and it says that the errors caused by a driver, but im not sure which. Despite this i am suspecting it is due to overheating. I would appreciate it if someone would help me.

A:Blue screen of death!

try lowering settings of your graphics card and update drivers. Use a program that shows the tempreture of the components. It could also be your fan; its probably not working. Post more info...

Hi:I have an HP HDX 16 premium notebook (64 bit), which I purchased in August '09. Have not had any trouble till now. Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit is installed. In the last few days I have gotten 3 blue screens for no apparent reason -- ie no new hardware or software installed. (I did install a new M310 logitech mouse about 2-3 weeks ago, but it is working perfectly.)The first two were 'page fault in non-paged area', the third was 'bad pool header'.I have attached the mini-dumps as I can't read them (or perhaps interpret them).I ran 2 virus scans (Malware Bytes and Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool) and nothing came up.I generated a system health report, and discovered 2 errors and 2 warnings. I don't know if these have anything to do with my problem, but they are below. I could not address any of them (my explanations are in parentheses). Symptom: Device is disabled. Cause: A device is disabled preventing it from working properly. Details: The device, #UNKNOWN#, is disabled. If this device is no longer used it may be intentionally disabled. The Plug and Play ID for this device is USB\VID_138A-PID_0001\5-29152909-0-1. Resolution: 1. Determine if you need the device. 2. If you need the device, enable it in Device Manager. 3. Hello and welcome to Bleepingcomputer.First off lets cover this item here.Symptom: Device is disabled. Cause: A device is disabled preventing it from working properly. Details: The device, #UNKNOWN#, is disabled. If this device is no longer used it may be intentionally disabled. The Plug and Play ID for this device is USB\VID_138A-PID_0001\5-29152909-0-1. This is the finger print scanner driver for HP laptop computers.Next lets cover this part of your post.Symptom: The Security Center has not recorded an anti-virus product. Cause: The Security Center is unable to identify an active anti-virus application. Either there is no anti-virus product installed or it is not recognized. Resolution: 1. Verify that an anti-virus product is installed. 2. If an anti-virus product is installed and functioning configure Security Center to stop monitoring anti-virus status. Related: Anti-virus (I use Kaspersky Internet Security. It functions without any apparent problems. I have both windows firewall and defender turned off). The programs you listed above are NOT anti-virus programs. If you want a free Anti-Virus program that works, try Microsoft's Security Essentials from this link here.MS Security essentials http://www.microsoft.com/SECURITY_ESSENTIALS/As for your minidumps.I will make another post with possible fixes shortly.Bruce.

So I bought a new computer, say about 5 hours ago... Things were going well, until it crashed and when it restarted I got this..

****'s already busted. I'm trying to get my DoD on, and then it crashes and now it won't turn back on.. It goes to this menu that says ..

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

Technical information:

***STOP: 0x0000007E (0xc0000005,0x81010cf0,0x8A54BC4C,0x8A54B948)"

Now I tried to restart in safe mode, but it ends up crashing again. I'm an absolute novice when it comes to computers so give it to me straight.. I can always return it, and threaten to annihilate everyone at Best Buy, but I wanna see if there is any other solution. PLEASE someone help me.

had the same problem: im guessing you have more than 3gig ram. take some out till you got less than 3, reboot there you go, windows starts. install updates, especially one named kb(randomnumbers). cant remember it, but you?ll find it if you google the 0x0000007e error. once installed reboot again so system can get used to being patched, shutdown, put ram in again, everything should work now.
stupid vista, took me 2 days to figure that out...
