Blue Screen of death

Q: Blue Screen of death

I have a dell precision m4700 with 32gig of ram. For some reason it will crash with the blue screen of death regularly. I get message about PRN LIST, MEMORY MANAGEMENT and things like that. I did a search on the internet and certain programs were recommended to fix it but nothing works. I alway update my drivers and use strong security software. Whats the problem? Hardware failure?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

In need of serious help.*
To begin, I am stupid and haven't backed up any of my files so for now a windows reinstall is out of the question. (unless it's completely necessary) okay, so the problem: I was using my computer as normal. Then while on Google Chrome, it started getting slow and said "not responding" this happens all the time, to everyone so I waited and then the dreaded Blue screen of death appeared. Didn't get a look at what it said because it shut down almost immediately. After that it loaded as normal? Which is weird, I think. But got stuck after startup on the black screen of death. All I have is a cursor. Can't do ctrl+alt+del, can't load any of the safe modes. When I go on startup repair, it says "no restore points" on system restore and "could not detect a problem" on system repair or whatever it's called. There must be something to fix this?! :/ I live in hope that the whole system doesn't need to be wiped clean because as I said, I stupidly haven"t backed up my files.*

Can anyone help?? Please?

this sounds like it should be a BSOD thread, post a seperate thread in the BSOD section following the posting instructions for BSODs, make sure you include the dump files, if you don't know how to do that, it should tell you in the BSOD posting instructions.

Hello everyone.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L450D-13X computer for the kids, and for the price it's a good laptop. Have had no issues with it until two weeks ago when the screen froze for the boys whilst playing a game and downloading a program from the net. Had to do a force shutdown and since then we have a BSoD on every boot-up. This is what we have tried:

On 'Starting Windows' we are given an option of either 'Launch Startup Repair' which ends up as BSoD or 'Start Windows Normally' which reverts back to the 'Starting Windows' option list.
Any attempt to enter 'Safe Mode' results in BSoD.
Attempting to boot an ISO of the Windows Recovery Disk on a USB key (we did highlight it and promote it to the top) results in BSoD. Borrowing a proper Window 7 installation DVD and highlighting this as an option results in BSoD.

In fact, the only option we used that threw up something different was using advanced boot options. On one of these options we got the Blue Screen of Death with the following information:

Disable Bios Memory Options such as caching/shadowing

I don't mind erasing the hard drive and starting again, there's nothing on it that's critical. I'd very, very much appreciate a steer on this. Checked the web for stuff and nothing seems to assist in any other options. I am not particularly tech literate but can follow instructions.

Last month, kept getting blue screen of death with various errors at bottom: MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Been happening sporadically before but amped up last month for a few days. Stopped until last night, this time I got an orange screen of death and the error was CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION (win32kfull.sys).

Today I booted my computer up to be promoted with a black screen, I gave it a good half an hour before forcing it to shutdown, to which when I booted it back up. Was then promoted with a blue screen about the video card not being able to lead, that happened twice.

I then booted it into safe mode, fiddled around with the drivers to see what was going on, after restarting it again, I got the same black screen, this kept on happening. I then concluded my best solution was to install XP, this worked the video card runs. So the card is not dead, but there are multiple blue lines going down the screen in 4 columns. After going into the device manager I saw that it claimed it was not installed, then I went to Google and downloaded the driver, after installing the computers goes to the same black screen that I got on windows 7.

I have no clue what the problem is, so any help would be most appreciated. Also I tried installing Linux, but after getting though then loading screen of the installer, it goes to the black screen. At the moment in am on my tablet so sorry if there are so many mistakes. I'll try and get some photos of how it looks.

PC Specs:

- Dell Dimension E520
- Intel pentium D
- 2gb Ram
- Nvidia Geforce 7300 LE

Thank you, any help will be hugely appreciated.

Sean Hall.

A:Geforce 7300 LE - Blue screen of death - Multiple lines down screen.

Hi Sean,

I don't like to say it, but it sounds like the graphics card is dead. I had the same issue on an old 8800gts, it would work until I installed the drivers, then I would get very bad artifacts/lines down the screen.
I tried it on 2 different PC's with the same end result once the drivers were installed.

Just today, I turned on my computer and got the blue screen of death, so I restarted my PC. Then a black screen came up saying "Windows could not start beacuse the following file is missing or corrupt : \windows\system32\config\system."

You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...

Now when i turn on my computer there is just a black screen showing, with nothing at all on it.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks very much for your help.

A:Blue screen of death, boot problems, black screen startup

It's a nasty error that requires some persistance and resourcefullness to overcome without a clean install.

If you have a Windows CD or have the recovery console installed, you might want to have a go at these directions.

Hi, thanks for checking my question. I haven't found an answer to my particular situation:

Dell xps m1430 laptop w/vista (32).

It all started with a blue screen w/scrolling text after the fated restart. The blue screen text said "if this is the first time you've seen this message..." and then comp restarted, again showing the blue screen, then restarted into windows repair mode, after repair mode tried to fix the problem comp restarted, then the screen went black / blank right after the little windows loading animation (where the bar keeps moving from left to right and there's a small windows logo).
It all happened fast, so there may have been steps I forgot, but that's the jist of it.

Now screen always goes black / blank during startup after the windows loading animation, so I can't start windows in normal mode.
I can start in safe mode if I manually force shutdown by holding the power button, so I'm not imploding with fear... ok I am.

Possible causes:
1. This occured right after installing 11 vista updates (that restart was when I saw the blue screen)

2. Also occured the restart after running a patch called "Vista TCP/IP and UAC AutoPatch 6.0" I downloaded it from softpedia, the developer was listed as defcon, and their website listed was securevista.net, but the site is down(I found this out after the problem occured). The patch had lots of positive reviews, and lots of people on other sites also suggest using it to re... Read more

I have a Dell Latitude 5175 (Core m5-6Y57, 8GB ram, 256GB SSD) which bluescreens during full screen video playback such as Netflix or Windows media player with a Driver_power_state_failure, it doesn't happen straight away but usually after around 10-15 minutes usage.

I checked the minidump file which suggested the Intel graphics card driver was to blame, I updated that to the latest one from Dell which made no difference, updated the chipset driver, bios and then installed the latest graphics card driver from Intel again with no difference, if anything it's worse now.  The issue also occurs when the tablet is docked or when it's not docked although in normal day to day usage, it seems fine.

I've found references to this problem on some other machines, noticeably the Surface Pro 4's but not really any solution.  The next step is to try a clean build but thought I'd see if there's anything else I can try first.  The machine is out of warranty and while it's always occurred I've just lived with it as I incorrectly through the PC had a three year warranty.

Before i describe the problem i would like to make it clear that i would like to recover as much as possible. This problem occurred playing a game called Empires V2.1. It is a steam half 2-death match mod. I had problems in the past however i didn't not consider them problems the screen froze when the game changed map. However when it froze it wouldn't respond to Ctrl+Alt+Delete or Ctrl+Esc or the start menu button. I pressed the power button and restarted it that way. However this is when the problem occurs and i can't over come it. It starts with a normal dell screen and the loading bar crosses at the bottom as normal. Then it goes to a black page with a blue line across the top with white writing saying www.dell.com. A line (programming maybe it appears and disappears rapidly). It then goes to a black screen saying something along the lines of We are sorry for the inconvenience but windows failed to start properly. It then gives you options and no matter which option I choose I still get a blue of screen of death saying the following;

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to you computer. If this is the time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this appears again, follow these steps;

I have a computer running Windows 7. Last night the computer was running fine. This morning when I turn it on, i get a black screen. To fix the problem I conducted a system restore. After it finished restoring, the computer restarts and everything worked fine. To make sure if everything was in working order, I restart it again. After the "Starting Windows" screens comes up, I get the Blue Screen of Death. I can't even read what the error says because the computer just restarts itself. I did not connect anything new to the computer. I performed a hardware diagnostics to see if it was a hardware failure but no error was found. I can't even get into safe mode. The SFC.exe will be my next step.

Hi, I've been going through some problems with windows, I'll try to be the more clear and organized I can, let's start with my config and the symptoms I'm getting:PC Config:Core2Duo E6550GA P35 DS3 (rev.2.0)2x 1GB DDR2 800Mhz Kingston (in dual channel)GeForce 7200GS 256mb (512mb with turbo cache)HD321KJ Samsung Hard DriveSamsung SH-S203B DVD driveCorsair VX450W Power SupplyOS: Windows XP Pro x64 SP2 (I upgraded to sp2 just yesterday, before that I was running sp1)Symptoms: There are three types of symptoms, the most common is the pc simply restarting, note that I've already disabled the "automatically restart" in the system properties window and it keeps happening, other is the screen freezing, and then I have to restart it, and the last and less common is the famous Blue Screen of Death, also, but for only two times, instead of the freeze or the blue screen I got an empty black screen. All these types of crashes can happen independently of what I'm doing, It has happened while burning dvds with Nero, scanning with anti-virus, browsing the net, or even while I'm asleep and only the bittorrent client is up. Though, there is one peculiarity I think should be important, there's one program, the VirtualDubMod (build 2540/release), which is used for various kinds of video manipulating jobs, that every time I'm enconding a video with it, there is a crash, and I'm convinced it's not only coincidence, cause I have tried a... "I just got through fixing this (I hope). Hello experts. I'm not sure if anyone here will know or not, but hopefully someone can give me a point in the right direction.

I got a new 8GB RAM chip a few days ago for my ThinkPad. I found it on Amazon. I know this is the right one for my machine (T430). After I popped the chip in, I've been seeing the Blue Screen of Death about 2x per day. I don't know what to do to prevent these catastrophic outcomes. I know the chip is the right one for my model and I know it is installed correctly. Is there any way to run a diagnostic on the chip, or something like that? Do I just send it back to the guy I bought it from? This makes my laptop run so, so, so much faster, but I don't want to deal with twice-a-day crashes. Any thoughts?

As always, thanks.

Okay there are a couple of options which will help. First of all, please download and run the System Information Utility, and then post the specs back to this thread. Secondly, I'd like you to glean more information from the minidump file by downloading and running BlueScreenView. This will give more information for debugging, and also provide details of any faulty drivers (if applicable).

I am running Windows XP on my Acer Aspire 9300 and I keep getting the BSOD. I do not have the entire error written down but I know it has the ever popular Kernal_Stack_InPage_Error 0x and I think it ends in 77. I know this isn't a lot of help. Is there anywhere I can go to check to see what it is? IT's the same everytime.

Can you help me??

I have had this error for quite some time now and now it is happening almost 3 or 4 times a day when I play games or listening to music! please guide me through the process to find out the problem. Thank you

A:Blue Screen Of Death

Okay, you are getting BSOD multiple times a day. How do you know it is the same error code? Maybe you have seen the error code(s) but you have not provided any information.
If you have not set your computer up so not automatically re-start after a BSOD appears, the error code will flash past you too quickly to record it. You must set your machine up to not automatically re-start.
No one will be able to assist you if you do not provide an error code.

My computer started running slow and then locked up for no reason. Upon trying to reboot, I got a boot disk error, then a ntldr error. After running my setup disks I get the blue screen " Stop: 0x0000007f ( 0x00000)....

Any suggestions or ideas? I've done everything I can think of.

I should note, I am running win2k with all the updates, hot fixes, and service packs

Believe this is the same poster: http://www.vistax64.com/general-disc...een-death.html

This STOP error points to your RealTek networking drivers. This is the most likely cause, but isn't the only thing that it could be. So...

- Please download the latest version of the driver for your system and OS from http://www.realtek.com.tw/DOWNLOADS/
- Uninstall your current networking drivers from Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program
- Check in Device Manager to ensure that the networking device has been removed. If it hasn't been, right click on it and select "Uninstall"
- Reboot the system.
- Install the freshly downloaded driver.
- Test for further BSOD's

I built myself an expensive rig, and I am overclocking it. I've had the blue screen of death allot lately. I've always been able to figure out the problem, so there are no worries. All I'm wondering is if the BlueScreen will hurt your hardware or damage the code in the operating system, or is it just an incident that in no way affects the computer later?

so a brief description of how it happened, i had something make my norton antivirus program go crazy and constantly warn me about malicious attacks through some java 9 program, and after i started getting attacked by something called cloud 9 something, idk what it was but anyways, to decided to use the norton power eraser tool to see if it could get rid of it, well anyways after running the program, or should i say during, i got my first BSOD, after that it kept getting it constantly, even if i just left my computer it would crash.... anyways here are the 5 last minidumps , if someone could look it over and see whats up, that would be really helpful, i want to know if i should do a full system restore or something else.

I installed the latest updates for my Windows Vista (Sony VAIO) laptop (not sure exactly what I installed, how do I find that?), and ever since that (this morning), I can only use my computer for less than an hour before I get the infamous "Blue Screen of Death." I'm not sure what the cause is--can someone help me with this please?

Thank you!

Also, it happened twice in the same day, each time I used my computer today.
But I ran a scan while my computer was in Safe Mode, and my computer was fine the entire time I was scanning it (5+ hours).

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard dirve configuration and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption and then restart your computer.

My laptop crashed with the blue screen of death. I then attempted to run in safe mode, which failed. I then tried to recover Vista which also failed.

Next I tried to re-install Vista from fresh. The white bar loads (which I believe is the drivers loading, then a blank black screen appears and the fans stop running (which indicates the processor has stopped). I get the same problem when trying to install windows xp. I am also unable to boot knoppix or Barts PE.

I have run memtest 98 which was error free. The hard drive has been switched for a new one which didn't help and the cd drive seems to works as it at least starts the reinstall process with vista and xp and also successfully boots memtest 98 from CD.

Is this a motherboard issue and if so how can I be sure before forking out for a new mother board. What tests can I run? What else could it be?

Your help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

A:Blue Screen of Death!

You can't be sure of motherboard issues. Manufacturer's don't have anything other than basic tests for them.

We use PCCheck at work (about $400 - $800) and it rarely catches anything. We evaluate motherboard problems by removing all other problems (through Windows reinstallation with WHQL certified drivers and replacing parts with known good ones).

I am a newbie here and i am having trouble with the BSOD on a Dell PC running Win7 Professional 64 bit. I have been searching all over the internet trying vaious solutions to fix it. The PC is networked with others connected to it. What happens when turning on the PC is that it starts the blue windows screen with no icons on it then goes to the BSOD showing IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
As I can only log on in safe mode I am very restricted in what I can do.

A:Blue Screen of Death - Everything seems ok though..

I see a lot of games and Wild tangent game app. Free game sites often load you up with a lot of unwanted junk. I also see Utorrent, it's very dangerous to download torrents. I'd uninstall it with Revo Uninstaller and be sure to let it scan your HDD and registry for leftover parts and delete them.
Please download Farbar Service Scanner (FSS) and run it on the computer with the issue.
Make sure the following options are checked:
Internet Services
Windows Firewall
System Restore
Security Center/Action Center
Windows Update
Windows Defender
Other Services

Press "Scan".
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
Please copy and paste the log to your reply.
Thank you and good luck.

Running vista home preminum on hp m9100t. after installing a java update got the blue screen. Can go to safe mode, run diagonstice, go to boot menu. Windows stalls while trying to load and blue screen comes back. Tried to innstall recovery disks and got same results. Replaced the hard drive and get the same results.. Has anyone had this problem before and is there a fix. Makes me want to get a Apple MAC

A:Blue screen of death

If it boots to Safe Mode, but not to normal mode, then it's likely to be a driver that doesn't load in Safe Mode, but does in normal mode.

You state that you've replaced the hard drive. Does Windows still behave the same way (goes into Safe Mode, but not normal mode)?

Try following the instructions here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/1871981-post2.html

If it doesn't work, then post back and we'll go about it a different way.
