I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey guys,  I have the Lenovo Ideapad 520 (80YL00RXIN) and wanted to replace the CD Drive with the Samsung 850 Evo 250GB Solid State Drive  in order to increase the Boot Speed and over-all speed of the laptop.  So, the question is, Is the Samsung 850 Evo SSD compatible with my laptop? And will it fit in terms of size, in place of the CD Drive? Also, is it recommended to add the SSD? Any downsides to doing so?  Lastly, will I, someone who knows the basics about computers and the internal components of a computer, be able to install the SSD myself? Or would I rather outsource it to someone who deals in things like this? Thank you. Regards,Neel.

I've been looking at some of the features in Samsung Magician, and ran the Benchmark test twice. Both times I got very high scores, above the max listed in the program for all 4 tests. I have the drive set to MAXIMUM RELIABILITY. Just wondering about the scores reliability.

Scores in Parentheses are Samsung 's listed maximum high:

Sequential Read
549 mb (540)
Seq write
532mb (520)
Random read
97442 (97000)
Random write

Benchmarks are artificial at best [and a benchmark from the mfg is tailored to that particular piece of hardware] I would think you would get different results using a another benchmark program such as ATTO.

In short do not put too much emphasis on any given benchmark. Modern ssd drives are reliable and it should last for quite a while so I would not worry about the drive.

Hi,

Just purchased a new Samsung SP2514 250 gig hdd and XP can only see 32239mb.

Tried using samsung's drive overlay to install xp, but gave up + uninstalled it -(the drive overlay).

I booted from the Xp cd + installed but XP only sees 32....gig's.

I have enabled big LBA by using EnableBigLba from www.48bitlba.com to no avail.

From searching through the forums, I see that a BIOS update may be necessary.

Do I also need to update my motherboard + chipset?

If so, are reliable updates available free on the net?

Any step-by-step instructions would be greatly appreciated.

Thx in advance

This is just what is says. A fresh win 10 install on a new SSD. Do not explain to me about cloning.

To date I've upgraded the BIOS (UEFI) on a ASUS P67 Performance Gen3 motherboard. I've changed the SATA Mode to AHCI. I can see the drive in the BIOS.

The Windows installer the page where it lists the drive partitions. I only see one drive partio

Drive 0 Partition 1 239.9GB 232.8 GB Primary

I get the error
Windows can't be installed on drive 0 particion 1. (Show Detailes)

The New button is greyed out and when I select next I get

We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files.

Thoughts?

Hello hiltonr92 and welcome to the forums. See if this will help Windows 10 - Clean Install

Are you installed in UEFI Mode? If so, when you boot from the USB drive use the entry that says UEFI and the name of your USB. If not in UEFI, boot from the name of your USB without UEFI in front of it. Delete all partitions on the drive until it says unallocated and then click the 'NEW" button. The installer will create all the necessary partitions. I hope that helps.

Hello and thank you in advance for your help!

I bought a new Samsung 850 EVO 250GB for my old aging computer and this happened:

1. Cloned my old c: drive to the ssd, replaced it and everything went fine for a while until i started getting an infinite loop.
Windows wouldn't boot. Did a registry recovery via command line but my windows installation went to hell to forcing me to reinstall.

2. From this point everything went to hell, and after multiple windows reinstalls here's some of what happens:
- Windows installs but errors immediately follows;
- Some windows updates install but eventually start failing until windows update fails completely;
- Windows installs, updates install but eventually windows fails to load and enters repair mode claiming startup errors;
- Programs stop working for no apparent reason, some examples: Browsers won't run, file associations disappear (class registration errors), explorer;
- Driver problems with peripherals,
- File system corruption errors;
- I got situations where the computer would get stuck in a reboot/system restore/repair loop
- Automatic and manual restore points disappear making it impossible to restore to an earlier time;
- Changing the sata mode to IDE instead of AHCI seems to solve some of these issues but eventually the system locks up, the hdd light stays on, and after a reset the ssd doesn?t get recognized at startup. I have to power off to get it back but it?s the same all over again.

I replaced a Kingston 128GB SSD with a Samsung EVO 250GB SSD. Cloned Kingston SSD to new Samsung SSD using Acronis True Image.

Now, when I boot, it sits there for 30 seconds flashing the hard drive light blinking then proceeds to boot normally. All BIOS settings are default.

Hardware details in Specs.

Booting from the 128GB SSD was fine, no obvious delays.

Any idea what might be causing this? Could the new SSD be defective?

Hey Rich,

Since it's for 30 seconds, it sounds like the time it waits before the default OS runs automatically. You might check to see if that may be it.

Hi guys,

I was going to do clean install Windows 10 but there was an issue of GPT so I decided to convert into MBR. I didnt selected the volume by mistake and clean the whole disk.

Before there was 2 partitions

C: 150GB
D: 88GB

Now there is only 1 partition

C: 238GB

I have very important data on D drive and I am very confused right now.

Moreover, its still GPT and I also checked on Lupu Linux maybe if its on RAW but its not connecting through usb case.

has anyone installed a Samsung 850 EVO in a dell 3542. ive seen older posts on net where people were unsuccessful. going crazy researching this drive. and if u did get it installed. was it WOW thats so much faster?

A:anyone install samsung 850 evo 250gb in 3542 laptop?

Whether you can use one depends on which version of the system you have.
One version has a Celeron CPU (N30xx) and an embedded 32G eMMC drive - this one CANNOT  be upgraded to a 2.5" EVO SSD.
The higher line model has an i3 CPU and comes with a 500 G hard drive.  That model CAN be upgraded to a 2.5" EVO SSD.
Yes, the EVO will be immensely faster than a conventional hard drive.

Hello,

I have the following:

- Asus X99-Deluxe/U3.1
- Intel i7-5820K Extreme Hex Core CPU Processor (3.30GHz, 15MB Cache, 28 Lanes)
- Samsung 950 PRO NVMe M.2 256 GB Solid State Drive
- Asus STRIX GTX970-DC2OC-4GD5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 Graphics Card

I have only the Asus Graphics Card in the PCIEX16_1 which is running at PCI-E 3.0 16x as expected. I have removed the USB3.1 card that comes with this motherboard for testing purposes so I literally only have the Graphics card installed.

The board has an onBoard M.2 x4 Rev 3 connector which the Samsung 950 PRO is installed into.

I believe this connector should allow 32Gb/sec bandwidth (since it uses PCI-E 3.0 x 4) - please note there is also an optional card where you can add the M.2 (or a second M.2) into a PCI Express slot - I'm NOT using this card, just the onBoard connector.

Samsung Magician says the following:
- Controller: Samsung NVMe Controller (Driver Ver: 1.4.17)
- PCIe Slot: PCI Express Root Port 1 - 2F03
> Link Speed Cur: 4Gbps, Max: 8Gbps
> Link Width Cur: x4, Max: x4
> Bandwidth Cur: 16Gbps, Max: 32Gbps

The performance data also suggests this - the read speed should be a lot higher but seems to be reduced, whereas write speed which is a lower number is over the actual "Upto Speed".

It appears as if my SSD is running at PCI-E 2.0 speeds? The bandwidth is being throttled. Any ideas how I make it go to 32Gbps instead of 16Gbps?

Thanks in advance!

A:Asus X99-Deluxe/U3.1 + Samsung 950 Pro (250GB) M.2 Speed Issues?

Believe it or not, I've just stumbled across the solution.

I am using high FSB Corsair Dominator sticks and had them using an XMP (Extreme Memory Profile) - essentially my memory was overclocked.

I thought I'd try running in "normal" mode ie. stock settings and when I checked, the Samsung Magician is now showing as 32Gbps!!

The motherboard must sacrifice something to run the Memory at the higher clock speed which means it can't run the M.2 at PCI-E 3 and has to drop it to PCI-E 2.

Worth baring in mind for anyone else trying to achieve these elusive 32Gbps speeds

Dear Community .
I am planning to sell and upgrade my Alienware to a newer model .
I want to perform a secure erase .
I have tried Samsung magician 4.9 ( 5.0 doesn't support the SSD)
I have tried parted magic .
I am able to create the boot USB for both tools but on each occasion I get " Drive Frozen state " message .
I have researched for hours and all I see is cycle the power on the disc by unplugging the power and replacing it .
My questions are: 1a how do I power cycle on a Samsung SSD PM851 M.2  2280 as I don't see any power cable/lead  1b is there another way to unfreeze/unlock the drive . I DO NOT want to pull the whole module out and push it back in and end up with a dead piece of electronics .
2 Is there another way for me to secure erase and do I need to do this at all ,  would a format and clean installation of windows ( halting at the country /language stage and powering down for the new buyer ) be secure enough ?
To be honest I have fallen behind on HDD technology and couldn't believe the SSD was only a PCB  with 4 chips . when I opened the cover I was expecting to see a 2.5 drive .

Thanks

I am trying to decide what type of HD to put in my computer...a 250GB SATA or a 320GB RAID 0 (2 x 160GB SATA HDDs)...and would really appreciate hearing your thoughts.

I will be using it mostly for everything from statistical analysis, writing, etc. to music, pictures, DVDs and flight simulator work. The bottom line is data preservation is important. I have lately been hearing that RAID 0 does not provide any real performance improvements and carries more risk of data loss. I have also been told by the folks at Symantec and Norton that some programs such as Go Back will not work on RAID disks.

If what I have been told is true, RAID 0 carries little in the way of performance improvements, but an increase in data loss risk and more limiting in some program availability making the 250GB SATA sound more appealing.

Could you please tell me if this is true...what are your experiences/thoughts?

Thank you very much!

i have downloaded sata driver from toshiba website and installed via F6 during boot, windows asks which driver, windows 2000 or XP, i click XP and enter, windows continues until then advising no hard disk found

i have also tried downloading intel drivers after searching other threads and this also does not work via the floppy route.

i have also added toshiba drivers to XP iso using nlite to create a slipstream disk and while xp loads from disk, i noticed "toshiba raid driver" being installed. Same result no hard disk found.

According to the specifications on this page:

Your laptop has Ide interface, as far as I know on old IDE interface there is a 28bit LBA limitation that means the notebook can only handle HDDs up to 128GB.

I was reading threads about installing drivers for Raid.

right now I have a single WD SATA 250GB corsair harddrive.
as of right now I don't plan on installing a 2nd hardrive

so going without a raid set up will Vista recognize my sata harddrive and allow me to install Vista on to it?
I have the driver CD that came with the hardrive. but I didn't plan on installing a (A) drive.

I remember with IDE drives XP PRO used the drivers off the Windows install CD.
then once I was finished installing XP Pro I went back and used the cd that came with my
WD80GB hardrive to update the drivers /utilities .

is it only Raid drivers that are not on the Windows install CD or is it that SATA drivers are not on there either?
do I still need to make a sata driver disket and install a (A)drive?

A:installing single WD SATA 250GB with Vista Home Premium?

SATA should be supported by Vista natively, so if you have no RAID set up, it should install normally.

Vista will have drivers for most everything else, but you may still need to download a couple, like graphics, from the manufacturer.

The Acer C: drive is now full and the Data D: drive is empty, but it is not recognizing it automatically. This computer is my brother's, he bought it new and has it at my house. It came formatted with no disc's and I'm not sure where his books for it are. Can anyone tell me how to activate the second hard drive so I can use itunes and download video, etc.

It would be very much appreciated. My brother uses the computer here but it has been here for at least 3 years maybe and the book is misplaced. He mostly uses it for youtube, facebook, and stuff like that and is less computer educated than I am at tech stuff, which isn't saying much.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:Aspire AST690-UP925A 250GB SATA hard disk first drive full and won't go to 2nd

Boot into Bios, usually by hitting F8 as soon as the POST screen appears and see if the hard drives are both recognised. If the spare drive does not show in the Bios it either has a fault or it is not correctly connected.

What OS is on the PC.

I've been getting this "Windows - Delayed Write Failed" error for quite some time. It's strange though, because it seems to be happening totally randomly.

Here's what happens:

I could be using firefox 2 mins after I start up my computer or be playing a game 4 hours after I start my computer and then a delayed write failed error (or several) suddenly appears from the taskbar in the lower right corner of the screen, failing to write either a system file of some sort or a file related to whatever program I happen to be using at the time. Then everything becomes extremely choppy and eventually totally freezes up. I then have to manually restart at which point it will either work normally or be slow and then freeze up during startup. For some reason, moving my HDs to different SATA ports (since my mobo has 4 ports) tends to fix the problem for a while before it starts happening again.

Does anyone happen to have any idea how to resolve this problem or what is causing it? Is my HD failing, does it have to do with my drivers/firmware/bios, or is it some sort of software bug or conflict?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

(btw there don't seem to be any problems with the disk when I check it with chkdsk or the seagate disk checking utility)

A:Windows - Delayed Write Failed error with 250GB SATA internal Seagate drive

Ooh, my task bar and desktop just disappeared and I just got a message saying:

Windows - System Error
Unknown Hard Error

And when I clicked OK, it just reappeared. When I tried to shut down, my computer locked up, so I had to shut down manually.

Restarting failed, but my computer seems to be working again now that I have switched the HDs to different SATA ports again. For now...

This can't be good...

Cheers Folks

I suffered heavy lost of data creating a mirroring (!) RAID-1 on two different Silicon Image SiI3112-SATA/150-RAID-PCI-Controllers using a pair of Hitachis 7K250 harddrives (250GB, SATA/150, 7200rpm, 8MB Cache).

The BIOS detects both HDDs without problems, Windows XP Pro can be installed completely without problems but if i copy bigger files (>xxMB) from other drives or via LAN, the files are sometimes damaged.

-> 4 seperately copied WinXP SP2-Files from CD or vianetwork to any partition within the RAID-1 using the cmd "xcopy /v".

-> 2 damaged files while trying to extract the files anywhere i could.

I can run Prime95 24h+ without problems.
Both harddrives are "OK, return code 0x00", tested with the latest version of Hitachis Drive Fitness Test.

Here is the complete config:

AMD Athlon XP 2000+ with Swiftech MCX-462-V
EPoX EP-8KHA+ (VIA KT266A-Chipset)
3x 512MB Kingston HyperX, DDR3200
two different SATA/150-Controllers with different BIOS-Rev's (but even the latest one from Silicon Image won't work)

I recognized a tiny difference on the HDD firmware-revisions ... could it be that simple and that strange

Oh please, make it ending ... I spent maybe 50 hours or so on copying files, rebuilding RAIDs and installing Windows XP...

Bye bye and nice to read you, with nice greets to the www,
Kai Schwab aka "WaxMo"

I have just purchased a new Dell XPS 8920 that comes configured with a 250GB NVMe M2 drive as the boot drive and I?d like to replace this with a Samsung 1TB 960 Pro MVMe M2 drive however I can find no way to load the Dell OS Recovery in a way that it can see the new disk and load Windows 10.   BIOS sees the drive, but not the recovery tool.   Has anyone got any suggestions or tried to do this?

Hello,

I am thinking of purchasing a new HDD that is SATA 3G. My motherboard is about a year and a half old, and does not specify whether or not it can support 3G. I was just wondering if 3G is i guess backwards compatible? or if it is even worth getting a 3G drive if my MOBO doesn't support 3G.

Thanks.

Hello guys,I need some help.. I'm planning to buy Samsung SSD Pro 960 M.2 NVMe. Is it usable on my HP Z820 /the BIOS is J63 v03.91/  ?I know that there is no M.2 slot on the motherboard, so I would need to use some adapter like Asus Hyper M.2 x4 Mini.I've read here that some people succeeded with adding Samsung Pro 950 via Asus  Hyper M.2 x4 Mini on HP Z620.I won't use the SSD as OS boot drive. Just I have heavy projects and need much faster loading.Thank you in advance, folks!

I have an 8 year old PackardBell which has been enough for my limited uses (I don't play games or other high power needing programmes). I do use it for connecting with my microscopes, and as it has USB1 ports that makes imagery a bit slow etc. Now, the
monitor caught on fire, which I replaced with a Samsung 2233SW, which I have no trouble with. I need to buy a new PC tower, as it really has had its day, which I guess will be Windows 7, but I need to buy one that is compatible with the Samsung(I don't
want to buy another screen when I just bought one a year ago) which has VGA connection. I need a sugestion as to which PC Tower I need that is compatible, and one that has at least 5 USB2ports - with  two or three USB2 ports preferable at the front
(the USB leads from microscope cameras seem ridiculously short). My budget is about $A600. many thanks,

Hello,
I am using WIN2000.

I read that there are some issues with A,C or S Samsung 226BW displays, that can be fixed with a special file that can be downloaded online.

I see that the file download comes with instructions on how to install in Vista or WinXP. Would I be able to use the monitor, and maybe the file if necessary on my Win2000 machine?

I am comfortable with Win2000 and don't want to go through the upgrade.

Thank you very much.

Here's the to the article on the subject:

Hello,
normally the drivers which are built for WinXP are working fine under Win2000, don't you want to give it a try?
