I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Windows solution permanent? You must be new to computers. A system restore was was a bit drastic for a DNS problem. Next time post the problem first.

Hello,

I'm having a problem with the wireless USB adapter TL-WN722N.

I have the proper drivers installed, and I get a valid IP address from the router.
However, I am not able to browse the internet because there is some sort of problem with DNS. I can go to websites by entering their IP address, but cannot when using a www address. The same thing happens when trying to ping them.

There have been no DNS problems on this computer with the previous wirelsss card (DNS has been flushed), and the card also works on a different computer on the same network.

Please advise.
Thanks,

This is the email my brother sent to tp-link, they told me to change the dns to 8.8.8.8 when i try to do that it never save it, i even tried restarting the computer and it does not save it.

Hello,

I will be buying a new computer soon and giving my old one to my daughter. I want to network both systems. I going to try to have both systems with Windows XP. I have DSL through Bellsouth. I want to know what router is best to use with firewall as well? Or what do you guys recommend?

Carlton

A:Best or Prefered router

Any brand name router has a firewall component, and all are very similar in capabilities. What is the make/model of your DSL modem, because many of them are already a router, and you can just add a simple Ethernet switch to share the connection.

Ok so recently bought I wireless card for my pc and I re-setup my static IP which I need for port forwarding, This worked fine for a while until I started getting DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN errors on my browser, So I check my DNS and my Prefered and alternate DNS Boxes are empty, so I type in 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and leave, I still get the same error so I go back and the boxes are empty again, this happens every time so people can't join my server and I can't use the internet. So I have to use a dynamic IP, which won't let people join either. Anyone know how to fix the DNS problem?

A:Prefered DNS Resetting

Are you setting the DNS servers in the device or in the router?

If you have the DNS server address in the router, (or the server if this is used for routing), then leaving the device entry blank should default to the Router/Server address

I have actually pointed devices to the local router which is itself pointed at the actual DNS server, where the device has to have an entry, so that I only have to update one location should I need to alter the server address in use

I have listed my network as the first one on the list of preferred networks. I have even removed my neighbours network from the list. Nothing seems to work.

I really don't like disconnecting from my neighbours network prior to logging on my own.

Hi,

I am having an issue with offline files created offline syncing back to the server. I have set up a network share to be available offline on a client computer. All files are available offline without issue. Here is the issue however. If I set the folder to work offline any file I create in the folder when it is offline just disappears when the folder comes back online, there are no conflicts or sync failures reported in sync center. If I create a new folder offline the folder does sync back to the server. Any changes made to an existing file are also replicated back to the server once the share is back online. So the issue is only with newly created files when the share is offline. I have not been able to replicate this error on any other file server in our environment, However I have recreated the issue with multiple shares with multiple Win 7 clients on this file server.

Steps taken so far.

Checked and reset permission levels on the share.
Recreated new shares from scratch for testing.
Disabled and enabled offline files on the client computer and cleared the offline cache.
Check various registry entry settings.
Disabled cashing on the File server.
Tested with XP the issue does not exist with XP.

I have spent hours researching this error online to no avail.

The clients are running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit
The File server is Server 2003 Standard 32 bit with SP2

Any help or ideas would be most welcome.

I've seen the complaints about this problem but with no clear resolution. There are some hot fixes listed that may help, updating to Windows 7 SP1 is supposed to help in some cases but nothing seems for certain.

No way for me to recreate this problem but apparently others have the same problem.

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.
On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.
When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.
Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.
In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.
It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.
Has anyone come across this issue?

Hi Dicki,
First, please try to reset the Internet Explorer. Some plug-ins may affect the proxy.
If it doesn't work, please try to perform a network capture on the client.
Please check if the client send the http traffic to the proxy server at the correct port.
If the client has sent the http traffic to the proxy server, please check if there is any warning or error in the proxy server.

My fps go from 60 which is where it should be to 10 or less. I,m not sure if this is the game card or a lousy connection to the game server as we do get discoed sometimes. Iuse winrar and need to know if there are any differences between the different compression formats ( zip, rar, tar) and if one of them is more robust than the rest?

A:Do you have a prefered file compression software or file format?

Hi,

.tar is Unix-based and natively doesn't compress data (it was originally designed for tape backups in the 70's). If you use TCShell, Bourne, Korn etc. in a Unix environment, then you can use the gzip command line argument to compress a modified version of the .tar format.

There is little difference between compression ratios for .rar (propreity format) and .zip (now public domain) formats - both are extremely robust and support AES encryption.

Personally, I prefer the .7z format used by 7ZIP - it provides custom compression ratios, and on very large files consistently achieves about 10% greater compression, albeit it at a slower speed (greater compression = slower speed).

I regularly use the command line version of 7ZIP within .BAT files to compress data before using ROBOCOPY to backup the .7z files.

Golden

Our web people are in the US, India and Korea and are all having the following problem. They cannot FTP or HTTP to the ip address of the web site, unless they ping it first, if they ping it then they can suddenly get a response from the site and can access it for a period of time. I just have a quick question, I have setup a VPN using RRAS and L2TP shared secret, etc. From the client computer it connects no problem, and I can access shared resources on the LAN like it's supposed to work. The only problem is when I connect to the VPN, my browser doesn't work, can't get external internet to work and copying files from outlook 2007 to a shared resource seems to lock outlook up.

I'm not sure if this has something to do with sending all traffic over vpn or not. Is there any steps I can take to quickly resolve this issue? This seems to be the only thing affecting the users at the office.

Thanks,

A:Server 2003 VPN Issue

Is the VPN setup as a separate subnet example: if host 192.168.1.100 client 192.168.0.100.

Also depending on ISP and other possible settings you may need to use other DNS servers .

If so on the client try OpenDNS https://www.opendns.com/homenetwork/start/

Do this on the Client not on Server. Reboot let us know!

Both of the users were able to restart their machines and continue working. This morning when I got to work I went to check the server which is working fine, but the tape drive seems like it has no power. when I try to eject the tape in the drive nothing happens. I also tried to format the disk by using the server software and it tells me that the "cartridge is not in place" It is connected to a UPS so I don't see why this would quit working due to a power sag. Iam doing r& d on email headers,i want to trace an ip ad of the sender,so i change my firefox proxy server setting to 200.55.48.12 and port 8080 this is the proxy server ip ad, actual my public ip ad is 202.45.25.41.

But when i send an email ad from yahoo to gmail and when i check the email headers ,the ip ad of the sender is similar to my public ip ad even though i had change it to proxy server.

when we set our computer to proxy server and when we visit some website, the webserver see the proxy ip ad and not our real ip ad.

so then when i check the email headers it shows the real ip ad and not the proxy ip ad.

so what would be the reason.

A:proxy server issue

i have been caught in a scandal recently concerning all of this mess and what i learned is that whenever u send an email, it will ALWAYS show your public ip, meaning the ip that the isp has provided you with, and neeeeeever your browsers ip for security purposes. imagine if everyone could send an email using a randomized ip address in their explorer's settings, they would never be caught if they are harassing people by sendind emails!

Hi, I am running win 2000 Server as a print and licence machine, when accessing a domain through network places the error "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service". This has me baffled - when viewing task mgr system idle is 99%. all patches/service packs up to date, it's running on a 100MB link, no errors are showing in the logs. all drivers also up to date.

Hey all, got a stumper that needs fresh ideas!

At work this afternoon our proxy server stopped providing internet and email access.

End users can't connect to their email because they get a POP3 error, one of the protocols that the proxy server provides. Same thing with their internet access - "proxy server is refusing connections".

The network itself is fine - I can ping every segment (every router, every hub, every switch) and the proxy server itself. The proxy can also be bypassed - allowing internet access. Not a feasible solution though.

The email services are all running. Both network cards are sending and receiving. The proxy server itself is connected to the internet. Email is being collected, run through our filters, and supposedly sent on its way. On the surface, everything seems to be fine....Yet no end user going through the proxy can get outside onto the internet or access the server's email portion.

Right now we're running a virus scan which will take hours to finish. Meanwhile, my shift ended and I went home - My manager can deal with it now.

I don't suspect it to be a virus or anything running in the background. Theres nothing fishy in the running processes and CPU and memory utilization appears normal. I was about to start powercycling network devices between the proxy and the rest of the network, but that seemed like a bad idea.

My server at the house has Windows 2003 server, I have IIS installed and have one of my web pages hosted behind my Linksys wireless router/firewall. My server has a fixed IP address and the router has the IP address open with port 80. I do not have a static IP address. However, Dynsite and Zone Edit take care of that and the web site works fine. Now the issue, I have a total of four web sites to host, IIS gives me an IP address error when I try to start one of the other web sites. It has to be something silly im missing.

I went out and bought a Linksys WRT160N V2 to replace my old wired router (which I had NO problems with, btw) and started having this problem on the XP computer that was hardwired to the router. My main computer (Vista) that was using the wireless adapter had ZERO problems.

The other day, I decided to switch the location of the router and modem to be closer to my PS3, so now my main computer is hardwired while my XP computer is using the wireless adapter. Now my main computer is having this DNS problem. It literally took me about half an hour to be able to reply to this thread because all I kept getting was "Internet Explore cannot display the webpage" and a "diagnose connection" button.

I noticed the pattern to this problem was right after I fired up my computer. What boggles me, is that it's NOT an internet connection problem. I say this, because my MSN Messenger will sometimes connect right off the bat, being able to chat with friends and whatnot, but when I try to check my email or go to any other page for that matter, "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." And if it's not not being able to display the webpage, I get a Google page saying "Oops! This link appears to be broken" and a thing in the upper right hand corner saying "DNS error - cannot find server.

Now, my PS3 and my XP computer are both having the problem loading webpages within 30 minutes of connecting to the internet. There's gotta be a... Read more

I am running Windows 8.1 RTM (with all updates as of 10/3/13). I have an unRAID server in my local workgroup at home, which was connectable fine when my machine was Windows 7. Now it appears to have some issues.

If I browse to \\HADES (the machine name) it fails saying it "Windows could not find \\Hades"
If I browse to \\10.x.x.x (the machine IP) it works fine
The first week I was still able to get to Microsoft Internet Information Services 8 to access to UI to unRAID, now that is failing unless I use Microsoft Internet Information Services 8.

My unRAID server is a static IP
My Windows 8.1 server is a static IP
My router is Actiontec MI424WR-GEN3I

I tried modifying my host file just adding a "10.x.x.x HADES" line but that didn't work.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated, I am totally lost.

I have a webserver that i was using comcast to host, then i switched to bellsouth dsl. The problem is i can get to the server which is at dailylol.dynalias.org only locally, if i type in the ip 98.64.192.--- it will not load same with the ftp server, any ideas, i have changed the dyndns account to forward so im lost as to what may be the problem, any help would be great thanks.

A:Comcast to dsl server issue

If bellsouth's terms of service do not permit running a public server on your account, they may be blocking incoming connections to common server ports.

I just tried a tracert to dailylol.dynalias.org and the reverse DNS lookup for that URL came back as 192.168.1.2 which is totally wrong. The whole 192.168.x.x range of IP addresses is reserved for private IP addresses on LANs, not public IP addresses on the Internet.

So, tonight all of a sudden my internet crashed. I waited a couple hours and it didn't come up so I googled the issue on my phone and was trying to fix it. Anyway, after running a diagnosis it said my DNS server might be unavailable. So, following some tips on a website I went to Wireless Network Connection properties and switched the option from "Use the following DNS server addresses" to "Obtain DNS server address automatically" and suddenly the internet came back up just like that. I'm confused, I didn't change any settings so what would have happened to cause this and how would the option get changed like that? I mean I never messed with any settings, I was playing WoW when the internet went down. Thanks for any help.

Edit: Actually I did turn on/off and reset my router/modem during the couple hours when it was down. However, it didn't fix the issue.

Yes, I'm <that> stupid, so please take it into consideration. I manage a server that has a RAID 5 on it. Not knowing what I was doing, I removed the hard drive in Slot 0 and then put the same drive back in to the same slot. Now the server won't boot completely.

After booting, I see this message "Slot 0 HP Smart Array 5i Controller Initializing" for a good amount of time. Then is says 1784 Slot 0 Drive Drive Array Failure. Then it tries to boot Cd, floppy, hard, and NIC. It ends up with Non system disk or disk error. Replace and strike any key when ready.

It's a HP Proliant DL380.

So, how screwed am I and what can I do to repair the damage?

A:Server RAID issue

Do you see a message to go into your scsi controller and configure the Raid? You need to force the raid to rebuild that drive... if raid 5 is fault tolerant, remember its always best with servers to not touch if you dont have to

The office is running Windows 2000 server and MS Exchange server with approx. 6 machines connected. When anybody in the office e-mails, the recipient is getting a different looking e-mail address than the one it is coming from. For example, if [email protected] sends an e-mail the recipient sees the e-mail coming from [email protected]. When the recipient tries to reply to the e-mail they get a "non-deliverable" message. What could be the cause of this and why would it be happening to everybody in the office at the same time? Thanks.

Look at your user settings in Active Directory. Generally, email accounts are the same as the user name unless you set it up manually or set up a policy that creates email accounts in the format you mentioned.

Hello All-Emails have been sent to numerous, if not all, of the addresses in my address book belonging to [email protected] to protect from spambots. This would have been a simple problem I thought, until I was unable to discover the cause.I am running Windows XP SP3, have two computers on the network typically, and have a number of email accounts. Four email accounts are sbcglobal.net accounts, and only one has been utilized to issue spam/viruses and so forth. This is done through a hypertext link with no message attached. On these two machines Norton 360 runs at start up. Scans reveal no malware. After these messages began being sent as if from [email protected] I did the following:Ran an additional Norton comprehensive scan. I upgraded the NT 4.0 server domain controller to a Windows 2000 server and immediately noticed that the XP client machines took a VERY long time to logon to the server. The server is running DHCP but I modify the DNS setting so that the XP clients have the IP address of the 2000 server DC as their DNS. This corrected the problem with the logon speed but it created another little problem.

When the 2000 server DC, which is designated as the DNS server, goes offline, all the XP clients are unable to access the Internet. Once the DC is online again, connectivity to the Internet is restored.

I do not know what options I have to designate the ISP DNS information so that the clients do not have to rely on the availability of the DC for Internet.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

PS..we are small automobile dealership that does not have a large IT budget. I try to do the best I can but it explains some of the older technology i am using.

Greg

A:2000 Server DNS issue

First, your config to point the clients to the server DNS is the correct choice.

The symptoms resulting from an outage of that server are normal - -
and should lead you to the solution that the DNS & DHCP servers need to be
replicated (ie two of each).

However, you can configure the clients with two DNS addresses:

the first one (being the primary) should be your internal DNS address
and the secondary might be any public DNS server like 8.8.8.8 (which is google)
DNS processing is to issue a request to BOTH dns addresses and to accept
the results of the first one to reply.
That then creates the situation (a race condition) that if YOUR server gets bogged down, the secondary is more likely to reply first.

You should really attempt to avoid all outages of your DC and to schedule all maintenance to 'off-hour' periods to reduce the impact to the clients

Hi, I use firefox as my browser because of multi tab feature. Lets say I have a tab with 4 browsers to open say espn, cnn, SI and foxsports. I sometimes get an error of "server not found". The Firefox forum seems to think it is not an error with firefox but I think it is. I don't think it's an firewall issue because sometimes the site will appear and sometimes it wont.

What else could it be. I appreciate any positive responses.

We have a terminal server which we currently use and it seems to be bluescreening quite frequent. I know it's a issue related to the Plug and Play driver (PNP_DETECTED_FATAL_ERROR) but I haven't found any clear indication online on how to fix it.

I've attached the BSOD data. If anybody could have a look and advise would be greatly appreciated. Just stumped on how to fix the issue.

Cheers,
