Hi there,
I've recently up[down?] graded to Vista and I'm trying to install a program from a CD. The first time I installed it, it was fine - worked ok, no problems. Then my laptop crashed & I had to re-install everything. Now it won't work! I get to the point where I select the directory to put the program (Endnote) in, then I get the message that "windows explorer has stopped working" and will have to shut down.
Can anyone help me?

A:windows installer has stopped working...

You gave 2 different problems. Is it "Windows Installer" or "Windows Explorer"? If explorer is crashing, that should not prevent you from continuing with the installation. In fact, many installations with explorer hooks have to shut down explorer to complete.

When it "crashed", did you reinstall Windows from scratch to a blank drive? Do you have all the Windows updates and service packs?

This error seems to appear spontaneously, at least, I can't identify what is causing it to appear.

I am using Windows Vista OS.

Hi,

I have been having a problem attempting to update my computer. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad x-41 Tablet running Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit.

I have been trying to install the following update:
"Microsoft .NET framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86"

The update downloads and after waiting for around 15-20 minutes while the computer appears to be working and installing the update, a window opens that states "Windows Modules Installer Has Stopped Working."

It gives me the option to "Check online for a solution (recommended)" or "close."

I am getting the message "Windows Installer has stopped working" as showed in the attachement. I believe the problem is with Windows or some of its configuration. I tried in different PC with exact same Windows version (Win 7 64 bits) and exact same setup.exe with 100% success.
I have read several threads with similar issue. Some of them suggest to work in regedit (see Suggestion 1 below) but there is no MachineThrottling here. Other suggestion is to disable Windows Customer Experience Improment Program but mine is already disable. Any suggestion will be appreciatted.
P.S.1. obviously I am running the setup.exe as administrator.
P.S.2. the installer source is IBM - DB2 Express-C

Suggestion 1:
Click on Start > Run > type "regedit"
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions
Look for the "MachineThrottling" key and delete it.
Close the registry editor and restart your PC.

Since it is happening on multiple computers I do not think that it is Windows 7 but some kind of incompatibility with Windows 7. Perhaps there is a work around. Since that is specialized software I suggest that you try the ibm community. https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/c...0-000000000805

Hi everybody,
I'm trying to update my Windows 10 system to the Anniversary edition.
When the installation process reaches 100% and the system is about to reboot I always get the message 'Modern setup host has stopped working' . All I can do is press OK, quitting the installation.
After several google searches I tried to:
perform a clean boot, unplug all the USB devices, update from the .ISO,disable graphic and sound cards
No way. Modern setup host won't work properly.
I don't have any antivirus or firewall installed.

Any idea on how to complete the installation?
Thanks

Hi, have you seen this? Seems to offer more than you've tried.

On a more prosaic level, do you have any unallocated disk space on your system drive?
And around 20Gb spare, allowing working space + the creation of Windows.old in your Windows partition.

What Printer do you have?
Have you tried downloading the latest Drivers?

To download the latest drivers (if your printer is HP)
http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html

Tick this box -> Download drivers and software (and firmware)

Enter the model number (can be found on a sticker somewhere in the printer)

And find the latest drivers and software (to tell if it is the latest Look for the Version Numbers VX.XXXX (X being version number) and the date. Make sure you read the information section about what your downloading to make sure your downloading the drivers & or the software, If you want the latest software as well.

That’s the first thing I would try, Dose the Plug-in installer error offer any other information?

What type of errors are you having with internet explorer?

Remember the more information you post - Such as error messages and anything that may be relevant to the cause, even if its not. Will help the support users help you solve your problem =).

Toshiba tech help kept me on the phone 2 hours (11 pm to 1 am EDT) and only succeeded in screwing up my computer by having me turn off things that should not have been turned off.

It took me another 2 hours the next day to straighten out the mess, and I still have the error message problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions or idea what could be causing this and what I can do to fix it. Thanks so much.

Since I had a new PC built using Vista Home Premium I have been struggling with some of its "quirks". One of these has been a failure to get a webcam to work with Skype. I#ve tried the 2 I already had, a Logitech Fusion and a cheapie Technika (made by Sonix) and then 2 new ones, supposedly both fully Vista compliant, a Microsoft VX3000 and a plug 'n play Technika. All have failed to install properly and lock the PC as soon as Skype starts video capture and audio. I uninstalled the Logitech and Microsoft ones using the programs' uninstaller but neither of the Technikas will uninstall either through their own uninstaller or through Control Panel uninstall, in both Normal and Safe modes. Whenever/whatever I try I get the message "Setup.exe has stopped working./ Windows is searching for a solution" and then "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available" - but no solution is forthcoming.
I hope that I may find one from one of you guys!

lets start by going into event viewer. type event viewer in search. go to the windows logs, appications tab. look for errors (red"x' in left column) that say app crash, app hang, etc and have setup in the app name. there will be alot of them. look around teh time when you last tried to uninstall it. copy the event ID, and source codes down and let us know what they are

A:setup.exe has stopped working

Hello frankiedi

Welcome to TSF

Unfortunatley PowerDVD has a bad reputation for staying power. This is the best way to get rid of the application.

1. You need to find the installer (you can find the correct path to the uninstaller by clicking the More details on the permissions box when you try to run the uninstaller)
2. Create a shortcut to it.
3. Then you need to set the compatability mode on the shortcut to Win XP SP2
4. Make sure you've got it set to run as Administrator.
5. Then Uninstall the program

Weird i know but this has proven to work. Failing that you can use tools like CCleaner which will remove thrid party software

Are you downloading an .iso and then going to setup to install it? That doesn't work. You need to download the .iso and burn it to a DVD. You can then install by inserting the DVD. == What are you trying to install?

What game is it? It could be a outdated Version, the company shut down, hosting problems. Check your graphic Card to see if it can handle the game. Make sure you have the System Requirements And programs to run the game.

I am trying to reinstall Microsoft Office 2007 Student Edition and I continue to receive the following error:
Microsoft Setup Bootstrapper has stopped Working.
"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available".

Microsoft support informed me to try installing on a clean boot but the issue occurred. They provided me with a new download of Office 2007 and when attempting to install I continue to receive the error. I do not have any other versions of Office installed. This is very frustrating. I believe a lot of this began when I uninstalled "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition" from my Laptop due to not working properly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really need to get Office installed so I can complete my college courses.

Thank You
Ian

This is starting to really piss me off. I had an error like this on one of my Command & Conquer games (Yuri's Revenge I believe) and now it's happening with my old Rage of Mages 2 game. It gets all the way to the end of the install bar and then gives the message shown in my picture.

What do I need to do to run my older games in Vista? Some still work, I know of Diablo 2 for sure and Halo.

A:[SOLVED] setup.exe has stopped working during install

Wow, I got a quick response on another forum and the solution to this problem is this:

"Find the install installer, Right Click -> Properties

Select the Compatability Tab, and then select Run in Comp mode for Windows 98

This may fix the issue." -benniemc

Maybe the next time someone searches this problem this will help them then.

Hey all, I am in desperate need of help.

I just got a brand new, gorgeous gaming computer, and it has been running beautifully for two weeks. Last night I put the computer to sleep and came back to it 14 hours later, it turned on but was frozen solid. The mouse moved but nothing more. I tried to open the task manager and was given a "no permissions" error. Reluctantly, I did a hard restart, at which time I was informed that the Symantec Service framework had stopped working.

This confused me as it has been working perfectly well since installed 2 weeks ago. I ran Registry Genius with no issues, can go online, however Windows now gives me error Code 80248015 when I try to check for updates. I've followed steps to make sure my BITS is working, but still no luck fixing this.

I attempted to uninstall Norton through Programs in the Control Panel but again received an error that Systematic had stopped working. Inserting the CD allowed me to uninstall it, restarted and re-installed. Put in my product key, and then the install errored again.

Setup has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Needless to say, no solution has been suggested by Windows. I did a Clean Boot, disabling everything that was not a Microsoft Service, and received the same errors upon trying to install Norton. After the error, attempting to install it again prompts a Remove All comm... Read more

I have postd this question before and am still looking for an answer.

I have a Dell Inspirion 530 running Vista with service pack 2. When I attempt to install Quicken, I get 'Setup.exe has stopped working'.

Here is what I have tried.

1) HOURS on the phone with Quicken Help Desk.
2) Use QcleanUI to uninstall Quicken, remove all Quicken folders, etc from desktop, and reinstall Quicken.
3) Used uniblue.registry booster to run a registry scam and clean up errors, and have defraged my registry.

I am at my wit's end. QuickBooks Support deleted my Quicken when installing QuickeBooks. I have lost the ability to view 10 plus years of financial history.

Please help!

I am trying to uninstall a program called PCStitch. I get the error message "installscript setup launcher has stopped working". The program closes and I can go no further. I have notified the PCStitch techs and they have never heard of the program doing it and seem to have no answer how to fix it. I get the same message when I try to download the latest version of PCStitch. Does anyone have a suggestion how I can proceed with this? Thanks.

Hi there,
I am getting a repeated "Windows Module Installer has stopped working" message which says that the file that describes the problem is:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportQueue\AppCrash_TrustedInstaller_5480538538f23ac44dfcd994b 3e5d340663098_cab_670b9c43\WER9B8A.tmp.hdmp.

Windows Update hangs and gives no error message but says no Windows Updates have been carried out (ever). Have tried to run SURT but it just hangs on the first step, searching for updates (left it for 3 hours or so). SFC Scan gives error message "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service". I attach CBS folder.

Be very grateful for any help.

Best
Miguel

A:"Windows Module Installer has stopped working" message constantly

There's a fairly critical error in the last CheckSUR that ran -

Code:
(f) CSI Payload File Corrupt 0x00000000 cmiv2.dll amd64_microsoft-windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17592_none_672ce6c3de2cb17f
this file is central to the servicing capabilities of Windows, so the fact it's missing may be causing all your other problems.

The CBS log however is more interesting.
SInce early November, almost the only activity recorded has been repeated installations of the same software at boot.

Hello all. I hope this is the right place to post this support thread.

I am trying to install Open Office, but every time it is crashing during the installation process. This has happened the same way for three different .exes from their website - 4.1.1 en-GB, 4.0.1 en-GB, and 4.1.1 en-US.

I run the .exe, click next on Installation Preparation, select a location to unpack the files, and it extracts them. Once it reaches the Installation Wizard window, it works on 'Computing space requirements' for a second or two, and then crashes, saying "Windows(R) installer has stopped working".

I have looked around a couple of help threads, and tried a few things. I have been into regedit, but there was nothing except '(default)' under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions. I ran 'sfc /scannow' in the command prompt, but got "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations". Can anyone suggest a fix? Thank you

While not a solution to fix your problem, here is something you could try to get a free Office suite.

I have Libre Office Portable, similar to Open Office, and the portable version doesn't install Libre Office.

Hi there,

I have been happily using Windows 8, until today. Out of nowhere I cannot install/update anything (I always get "windows installer has stopped working error", I cannot run any metro apps (they simply crash), and windows itself seems unstable. Is there any other solution, other than formatting harddrive and re-installing everything?

Thanks for any advice!

Hey.

I have exactly the same problem. There seems to be no info on this anywhere on the internet. Maybe we can find the solution by comparing installed software and hardware? I'll list mine and you can let me know if anything is similar on your end:

I had this problem on Windows 7 too, which is what prompted my Windows 8 purchase in the first place. Sadly, the problems stuck with me, making me think it's tied to some hardware, driver or software I'm using.

Hi guys,

I have got a laptop with a fresh instal of W7 Pro x64 on it. When I try to install Office 2007 Enterprise or Office Pro Plus 2010 on it the setup tries to start but then crashes with "Microsoft Office Setup has stopped working". This occurs when it actually tries to install, I can go through entering CD key, choosing install location and what to install no problem.

I have tried installing from a downloaded ISO as well in case the disks were in bad condition but exactly the same issue occured.

Any help much appreciated.

I'm new to Vista and this is a brand new computer, although I know it has problems. Something is up with the motherboard. I've already called to get it replaced. The network card just stopped working. I've got a usb wired card until HP service can get this fixed on the 29th.

I get this error immediately after trying to install. It pops right up and says "[program name] Setup has stopped working" "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

I got this with at least the following programs:

PeaZip
TomTom Home (it's the software that updates my gps)
7zip (I finally got this one working by installing an older version, but had to try a few files first).
Yahoo Widgets

That's all I could think of for now. It's getting really frustrating. And I've already had the BSOD once. I've only had the computer for 4 days! ouch.

Any advice is appreciated. This is Vista Home Premium X64 SP1 and I ran all the updates right away. I also took off the Symantec software. I'll use some, but I'm gonna use the one I get from work. It doesn't have all that extra phishing junk. I just want it to keep an eye out for viruses.

A:"Setup stopped working" with Lots of installs

I would not try and do any software fixes until you replacemant hardware arrives. If you have a motherboard issue it may be contributing to all of your other issues.
