Uninstalling Installshield

Q: Uninstalling Installshield

Hi Everybody, pretty much a noobie here, so I hope this is in the right place to post this.I have InstallShield pre-installed on my HP, and there is no uninstall for it, and it doesnt show up in add/remove programs, the programs it used to update, Sonic/WinDvd/HoyleI am doing myself, so I dont want it on my machine (and it is a MacroVision program)It runs on startup: issch.exe, ISUSPM.exe, agent.exe(this agent.exe is really from InstallShield){I need to add that to bleepings startup listing)http://support.installshield.com/kb/view.a...ticleid=Q106234This is what HP told me to do to get rid of it, after much back and forth with them.my Question is: does this method look ok to everybody, and where can a relative beginner getin trouble using this method of removal?ThankYougc

Preferred Solution: Uninstalling Installshield

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Varoom.I have InstallShield pre-installed on my HP, and there is no uninstall for it, and it doesnt show up in add/remove programsEvery windows system has it and there is not supposed to be an Add\Remove option, it's an integral part of windows. If you remove it you will no longer be able to Add or Remove anything. You might as well make a door stop out of your system. The MSI installer cleanup utility is meant to be used in case the current installer is screwed up. After you run the utility you must reinstall the MS installer engine.Unless I'm missing something in your post, just disable the startup items, reboot and remove the software you no longer want. Could you elaborate a little more on why you want to do what you're doing?

Just started installing software on a new Windows 7 64 bit box. I uninstalled a useless extra utility program that came with my mobo. The program was unisntalled however every time I boot windows, an empty instalshield window with a blank button appears. If I click on the button the window closes or if I close the window by clicking on the red all seems well. I found that the process causing this window is ISUSPM.exe*32 which is InstallShield Update Service Update Manager using task manager.

How do I stop this process from spawning a window every time I boot?

Hi All,

I created .msi file with InstallShield X Basic MSI package.
I used custom dialogs and custom actions. For this requires InstallShield Scripting Engine to run this file. And This file I got ISScript101.zip. This is manual way of installing the scripting engine.
This is working fine on systems where ISScript engine has been installed,

But I need to avoid manually installing scripting engine, ISScript engine should be installed as part of MSI installation.
I need to include .msm file with this package. I included installshieldscriptingengine.msm file with version 10.01.

But it's not working, when i am installing this package in, any Windows Operating System.

What should I requires to do? How to proceed?

case where DLG_ERR.--- showing error "Unable to display dialog box. Setup canceled",

I have NAV 2004 installed. Two weeks ago, updated it using LiveUpdate, and it has ceased to operate. Purchased NAV 2007, tried to install it, but NAV 2007 directs me to uninstall NAV 2004 using Add/Remove Programs. I have tried to uninstall NAV 2004 using Add/Remove Programs, to no avail.

I am aware that I could use Norton's Removal Tool, but I am assuming that this would also uninstall Norton Partition Magic 8.0 -- and I've lost the installation CD (moved twice since then) for Partition Magic 8.0. Does anyone know of a way to uninstall NAV 2004, but leave Partition Magic 8.0 intact? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

A:Uninstalling NAV 2004 w/o Uninstalling Norton Partion Magic 8.0

I would take a look at the 'tool.' You may be able to select what you want removed. S/N has changed itd recommended removal procedure many times. Below is the link to their currently recommended "tool.' It may or may not be the one you have in mind.

Having made a removal attempt otherwise may compromise the operation of the 'tool.' S/N has another 'tool' that is supposed to overcome encounterted problems with the primary 'too.'
So it goes with S/N!! They really don't want their "stuff" removed.

Background: As of yesterday I am on a fresh Windows 7 installation, prior to that any game/program that used installshield took forever to install. It would literally sit there for about 45 minutes to an hour before the progress bar moves anywhere.

Now that I am on a fresh installation of Windows 7 I figured all my problems would be gone, boy was I wrong. I started to install Crysis, then got up to do something, I come back an hour later, 0 progress. Same thing with Star Wars: Republic Commando. Both use installshield.

Note: I am not getting errors, the progress bar just sits there.

Edit: after about 40 minutes, Republic commando decided to start installing, but the issue still stands that installshield would want nothing more that to just waste my time

I have installshield on my pc. My inspector programme tells me that it will no longer be updated and, therefore, it should be uninstalled (as a security measure).

I have a number of options.

Use a programme that removes the registry entries, but leaves the programmes on disk. There are references in the registry;
Switch-off automatic updates in the update manager (installshield);
white-list installshield in the inspector program.

The programme cannot be uninstalled in Programs and Features (not listed).
Evidently, I should not manually delete the programs.

I don't know what to do.

Advice please.

Perfect uninstaller and revounistaller will both force an uninstall (by removing the registry entries) as well as remove the files however they must be used with care. I don't know what software you are using but before you start following it's advise and uninstall everything that it lists as some kind of security threat you might want to research what you are removing to find out if it should be left alone. Take installshield-a simple google search shows what it is used for. It is used by developers to aid in the installation and removal of their programs which probably explains why it doesn't show up in programs and features. Therefore if you force an uninstall of installshield you could mess up other programs and find that you can't remove or maybe even use them. My advice to you is to leave installshield alone. Also take care when using any registry cleanup software because if it damages the registry you could start having windows or program errors or possibly not be able to boot into windows depending upon the level of damage.

I can't install anything, and I suspect I won't be able to uninstall anything either.

I have searched the Internet for a solution and tried the suggestions, but it won't work.

What's happening is if I try to install a program the Install initialises, but when the progress bar comes up, even before it begins to do anything, i get an error saying "An installation support file could not be installed. Interface not registered."

I have tried:

Deleting the Engine folder.
Reinstalling the Engine from the InstallShield website - this obviously doesn't work because InstallShield doesn't work...
Deleting a registry key: "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00020420-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\InprocServer32".

Another reply here suggested reinstalling IE, but I can't, as when I try to run the install file it says there is a newer version of IE6 already on my machine.

Is there anything else I can do?

What even caused it? I can't even try System Restore because I don't know when it was... I haven't installed anything in ages.

I am using an otherwise well-behaved (and clean) PC running XP sp2. I am the sole user.

The last successful instalation of anything was Windows Update last week, and the last third-party program was FirefoxDeploy and that was about a fortnight or so ago, but I don't know if that used InstallShield.

Please help! And Merry Christmas!!

Hi all,

I had to go back to a restore point because of a driver issue with regards to my DVD Rom on my laptop. Now, however, when I startup my lappy2000 I have a new-and-improved problem. I had Napster (I know, stupid) and it came with Roxio Media 9 (evil). I Unistalled Napster a while ago and appearantly I did not get rid of Roxio completely. This was never an issue until I ran the system Restore...

So the problem:
When ever I startup my computer InstallShield starts to install Roxio9 Media Center. Well it is mostly gone so it is missing files and the install creates an Error. I don't want Roxio Installed but I can't figure out how to stop it. I have to Control/Alt/Delete to end the process otherwise it continues to loop. Even if I hit cancel it will just start installing again a few seconds later. I ran a file and registry cleaner and cleaned out anything and everything I could find pertaining to Roxio's software and yet once I reboot my PC it trys to install again. So I think there is some .exe files in InstallShiled Wizard (evil) that keeps running. How do I locate these and how can I stop this? I did notice a file C:/program Files/InstallShield Instillation Information but this files in here have no names and look like registry information so I didn't want to just start deleting stuff.

Is there any way to get this installation out of InstallShields 'queue' for lack of a better term? In addition this is preventing me from being able to install ot... Read more

fyi basically had to hunt and destroy every file relating to Roxio I could find and disable install shield in msconfig. Not sure if that is a bad thing but I can regularly check for updates myself I don't need installshield to do it for me. Programs seem to install fine sooo hopefully no problems.

Any help on how I can launch this file or find the missing dll would be appreciated.

One known cause of this run-time error is a missing setup.inx file in the built media files

Hi everyone, been having issues with this for a while, and I dont know what I can do to fix it, I hops someone on here can help fix my problems.

Okay, to start, I have Windows 7 Home Premium, had since December 2009. The problem is, whenever I try to install a program that uses InstallShield, it doesnt work. However, it is only the version InstallShield games from about 2003-4 to 2006-7 used, newer and older versions work properly. Its only this certain version that it doesnt work on. Games which use it include stuff like Chris Sawyer's Locomotion, and Roller Coaster Tycoon 3.

What happens is it loads fuly then it comes up with an error message saying, "Unhandled Exception.... Error Number: 0x80040706.... Description: Object reference not set.... Setup will now terminate."

I have tried running it in compatability mode, and all sorts of other stuff to fix it but to no avail. I'm really getting tired of effectively having wasted my money on the games that dont even install. If you need more information on this then just reply asking what you need to know.

PS. The appropriate people can move this if it's in the wrong section.
PSS. I have uploaded a screenshot of the icon of the version that doesnt work. The newer versions and older versions all work properly

Thanks to anyone who can help!!

So here is how it happened,

My computer was destroyed by a virus and was no longer able to load the operating system. So I booted from disk and reinstalled windows xp. I got by computer back on its feet and fixed everything but now whenever I start any installer that uses installshield, it just won't work properly. It shows the original splash screen with: Starting InstallShield Wizard..... but thats it it just stays there I've even left that on for two days and it still didn't make any progress. I can't even completely close it from the process window, theres always one installshield process left that won't end.
I've tried googleing it, wiping my temp folder, clearing internet cache, turned of anti-viruses,I have followed the instructions on the install shield support page(deleting folders and installing new ones), and even rebooting. Nothing that uses installshield will work properly aside from the splash screen.
So if you have anything in mind or any solution that I haven't tried yet please leave a reply because this is really annoying. Since I am pretty good with computers the instructions don't have to be step-by-step, if I have any questions I will leave a reply. Thank You in advance for your help. Recently i tried to uninstall one of my program via add/remove program but it failed to do so. I believe its because of InstallShield problem from what i read in internet. I also face the same problem installing ANY applications/games using InstallShied Wizard. I went to this site and downloaded the ISScript engine for the version of the setup file and still failed to install the application. I tried to update InstallShield version last night, the installation was aborted because of same error.

Last night i tried to install C&C Generals, the version of the setup file is, so i went to installshield site and download ISScript7.zip. I managed to install the script without any problem, after rebooting nothing has changed tho, still cant install/uninstall anything.

Here's the error images.

After clicking OK, the installation failed to continue and aborted. Maybe my Tuneup utilities messed up with registry keys i dun know.

So what do you think ? OS is XP service pack 2. I googled for information for days and did all the solutions given still no avail. I tried Windows Installer CleanUp Utility but its only works with softwares that used the Windows Installer technology to be installed. I really blank now..

Thx !

In case you suspect a program messed up your Registry, you might want to actually see what it did.

The WinXP System Restore tool restores (among other things) the Registry to its previous state ( Frequently Asked Questions Regarding System Restore in Windows XP).

So, if via the System Restore tool you can reach an earlier state at which you do not experience this issue, then do the following:

1. Start Regedit.exe.
2. Select each registry root that you want to compare. (Example: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE)
3. From the menu bar, click Registry.
4. Click Save Subtree As.
5. Click Save as type.
6. Select Text files.
7. Save the file as Filename.old.
8. Follow the above steps for all subtrees.
9. Go back to your present, "problematic" state.
10. After having done that, repeat steps 1-6.
11. Save the file as Filename.new.
12. You are going to use Windiff from the resource kit and compare the two files, filename.old and filename.new. (In Microsoft Windows 2000 and later, Windiff.exe is included on the original CD-ROM in the Support\Tools folder. To install the support tools, run Setup.exe from the Support\Tools folder. Windiff.exe is also in the Support.cab file. Support.cab is included with every service pack.)
13. Start Windiff.exe.
14. On the File menu, click Compare Files. ... Read more

I've got a really annoying problem that I hope you can fix.

Whenever I want to install some new software the installshield starts and you can see the box saying that it is loading. Then however it just closes, no error messages or anything. It happens everytime I want to install some new software using the installshield.

If I go to event viewer there are 1001 and 1004 errors saying the source is MsiInstaller.

If I open the 1001 errors it says:

Detection of product '{90170409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}', feature 'HandWritingFiles' failed during request for component '{B05C6A77-8180-42FF-9C3A-ACC8C548F026}'

If I open the 1004 errors it says:

Detection of product '{90170409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}', feature 'ProductFiles', component '{66CD2C91-2A15-4DA4-BBD2-5EC1075F3C0E}' failed. The resource 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pip\' does not exist.

I dont know what is causing the problems but I know it is something to do with either the installshield or the msi installer. Can someone please help and come up with a solution to this problem.

Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to install a game to a WindowsXP SP2 system using InstallShield, and... well, it just isn't working. I keep getting a 1607 error. I've searched the internet for possible fixes, and they all direct me to files and folders that don't exist. I suspect the InstallShield software just isn't on this machine- I recently had a major crash and had to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the OS. But I also search the internet trying to find where I could download an end-user version, no luck there either. One site reccomended I go to Microsoft and get Windows installer 3.1- I got the exe, but when I try to install that, it crashes svchost.exe and returns an error: "Setup could not verify the integrity of the file Update.inf. Make sure the Cryptographic service is running on this computer."

I'm at my wits end here, and need advice.

I am having a major problem trying to install some s/w (Sansa MediaConverter) on my P4, Win XP SP2 PC.

Just as the s/w begins to install I get a fatal error - (something like) "Unable to create a file that already exists ... C:\Progam Files\Common Files\Installshield\engine\6\Intel 32\iuser.dll"

Since I was able to install the s/w on a friend's similar PC I think the problem is a compatability or bug with the Installshield appln on my machine.

I followed some suggestions (from the Installshield support site) and cleaned up my temp file, deleted the 'Engine 6' folder and reinstalled the Installshield 'ikernal.exe' but this hasn't helped.

Surprisingly when I tried to reinstall the 'ikernal' it also runs into exactly the same error! - so there is some issue with how the Installshield (Engine 6) is working on my PC.

Will be very appreciative for any ideas and advice on how to resolve this.

Many thanks.

P.S. I have had no other problems installing and running programs on this PC!

The thing is, I dunno how to reinstall installshield (I'm using XP). Installshield is automatically installed during windows installation right? Could someone kindly tell me how to go about re-installing it please ?

People need to research before just removing files and folders, I know from experience. Anyway, You can use your OS disk to recover default files if you have one, or if your system has a recovery partition already on your drive, even better, or just go into your browser and type in (download installshield), should give you a pretty good selection to choose from. Most will cost you though. The recovery disk is the best way to go. Remember to research before doing a recovery. Use this forum for advise on how to recover lost or deleted files from recovery disk. I am a novice player. I would possible take you down the wrong path as far as explaining the steps involved. It is easier for me to do it, then explain it to you. But then again that doesn't help you much now does it.

I recently had to get rid of of my slave harddrive, and therefore had to reinstall a few programs:

A problem occurs when i try to setup software using setup files that worked perfectly before:

---- 1607:Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime.

I check this out on net. Download the required isscript.msi, which should automatically install the required installshield again. But then i get it automatically pointing towards my old hd

---- Error 1327. Invalid Drive: G:\

Can someone please help me understand whats wrong and how to find a solution?

I seem to be unable to install anything which has an installshield installer. Whenever I attempt to run an installshield installer, the program will run for 10 seconds or so and then exit abrubtly with no error message. Exiting isn't tied to the installer being on any particular phase of the install - if I hit keyboard shortcuts quickly then it exits during the file copying phase, if I do nothing it exits on the initial screen, etc. This has happened with three different installers so far - a patch, a game demo, and another program. Does anyone know how I might fix something like this? I've tried googling and haven't seen any solutions, and since there's no error message and (as far as I know) no logfile, I don't really know where to start. Any ideas?

Sometimes you have to delete the setup1.exe file from the Windows directory. Why this is, I don't know. I program as a hobby, and have had to do this in the past. Especially for programs written in Visual Basic. Give it a try, it can't hurt. If it worries you, simply cut and paste the setup1.exe file to another location until you are sure this worked.

My gf has an Acer laptop running Vista. She has recently run into an issue where she cannot install anything whether it's a Windows update, Quickbooks or anything else (Windows or third party). InstallShield always comes up with this error: "The Windows Installer Service cannot be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed.".

It's my understanding that every program has an installer of some sort, so why would this error come up and not allow her to install anything? I go through Prog Files/Common Files/InstallShield, but none of the apps install InstallShield. I've even gone to the website to dl the latest/greatest version of InstallShield, but of course, it errors out and will not install.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello geno368

It just means you should uninstall the mouse and all the software for it.
Then use the CD to reinstall it all again.

hey guys I have been trying to update my itunes but everytime I try and run the setup I get this weird window from installshield and the setup ends. I have looked on the itunes troubleshooting page but none of the errors they have solutions to match mine. the message reads:
"Command line parameters:
/L language ID
/S Hide initialization dialog. For silent mode use: /S
/V parameters to MsiExec.exe
/UA<url to InstMsiA.exe>
/UW<url to InstMsiW.exe>
/UM<url to msi package>"

i have tried a number of solutions to no avail, and I just wanted to know if anyone could tell me what to do before I spend 4 hours going through everything, and probably end up reinstalling windows in frustration. thanks for the help.

Greetings coldcig, and welcome to TSF.

Do you have a third party firewall installed [i.e: Zone Alarm etc.]?

You might need to do one of two things..either give permission for the iTunes installer to run, or disable your firewall and try the installation.

Whenever I try to install ANYTHING that requires installshield, it gives me the following error.

The installshield engine (iKernel.exe) could not be launched. The RPC Server is unavailable.
I've tried everything that it came up with on my google search. Ikernel.exe is not in processes, the RPC service is "Running" in services. I've even tried to uninstall/reinstall via Command prompt, with no luck there.

I downloaded the ikernel update, and the irony in this is, the file requires installshield
Anyone have any fresh ideas I can try? I'm going mad here, it's downloaded programs, and even games I've purchased, and own original CD copys of. Nothing seems to want to install.

On a side note, everytime I want to use "Windows installer", I have to go into the damn services, and start it. Even when I set it to automatic, after reboot, it isn't auto anymore. Not sure if that could possibly tie together or not, but I figured I'd mention it in case.
Thanks in advance for any help, or advice guys.

Hi Mandika, welcome to BC.
Are you the only user (admin) of this computer?
Go back in to your services and make sure "DCOM Server Process" is set to Automatic and running.
The "Windows Installer Service" does not need to be set to Automatic in XP Pro SP2, manual is fine.
