Lenovo V510-15IKB (Bios update issue)

Q: Lenovo V510-15IKB (Bios update issue)

Hey Ladies/Gents, I have a Lenovo V510-15IKB (Windows 10 64bit) which has been running well until there was a critical BIOS update version available (2WCN40WW). Since this available update my battery stopped responding now I have to keep my AC in to get power, battery will not charge and is on 0% (not sure if this issue related to BIOS update). I tried performing the update through Lenovo vantage and it says successfully updated (doesn't reboot by itself) but when I reboot it and scan it again it says I should update my Bios. I have also downloaded and updated my BIOS from the website (no automatic reboot again) and the same issue. Currently my laptop would switch off randomly and effecting everything currently. If someone can please help me/give some direction I would appreciate it a lot. (I am a newbie in this area.)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello guys, I have a big problem. Yesterday, my notebook started a bios update while starting. Unfortunately, the PC shutdown during the update process and now, everytime I start the pc, there is only a black screen and the fan spins heavy. Has anybody an idea how I can recover the CMOS/Bios? Taking out the CMOS-Battery and the Accu didn't work.  Thanks for your help, Olli

Hello,
I have a Lenovo V510-15IKB on which Windows 10 64bit had been running until I updated the BIOS zu version 2WCN37WW. It looks as if the update was successful. In the BIOS I can see the new BIOS version, but I can?t boot into Windows anymore. After I press the power button I get stuck in the boot menu. Selecting the HDD on which Windows is installed doesn?t help. I get pulled back in the boot menu.

in the BIOS under ?Security?>HDD Password? its value is ?Frozen?. I don?t know what that means.

Can somebody help me?

Hi,I bought a Lenovo V510-15IKB, the one that has an 256Gb SSD in it originally. I estimeted that it is going to be enough for me but saidly it does not. Is it possible to put a HDD next to the SSD? (I know there are models with 1Tb HDD + 128Gb SSD, I just don't know if the HDD plug can also be found in the version what originally comes only with an SSD).

A:Is it possible to put extra HDD in Lenovo V510-15IKB?

You will probably need the HDD bracket (FRU/Part Number 5B40M31704) to install the drive, and 4  "M3 × 3mm, flat-head screws" to mount the drive in the bracket (if not included with the bracket), but other than that you should be able to install the any standard 2.5" wide, 7mm or 9.5mm high HDD into your system.     You can usually find the screws needed locally from any decent computer repair shop, which normally have lots of extra screws laying around, but you can also order them from http://www.laptopscrews.com/ if needed. The bracket kit looks like this and can be ordered from Lenovo Encompass Parts here  (It does show that it is on back order).   You might also search for part number 5B40M31704 in your region as well. Cheers,

I just bought a V510-15IKB. The fan on this laptop is doing things that should be very unnecessary. It spins up very abruptly to something that sounds like max speed every second minute or so,sometimes it stays moderately active for a while and sometimes it goes silent. This happens when just browsing this forum or other light use aswell.I havent done anything taxing besides updates and installs. I would accept this if I was doing something that naturally would be a demanding task, but not just from browsing the web.. I know my way around computers, but I'm by no means a poweruser.Any suggestions?

So I have a Lenovo V510 and just as it came out of warranty I accidentally dropped it and my screen was broken, took it to my local IT to repair and waited two weeks since the first screen were damaged on delivery and finally came the call to pickup my lappy only to hear that none can be done for it. According to my local IT they fitted the new screen and it was very dim had to use an external monitor or shine a light from back to see that it is working. So I wanted to know can I still save it or is my lappy a goner. Opened it my self and saw that the cable to the screen might be damaged, can this cause weak backlighting. Currently using this as media centre on my TV but would like it to be portable again. Any help will be appreciated.

I bought a Lenovo V510 when it was on sale in Turkey about 4 months ago. Since I already had a laptop I did not setup that new laptop immediately till 1.5 months ago. When I started to use it especially at nights I noticed there is a very loud coil whine coming from the laptop when I leave it plugged in. I tried it with different outlet, bought a new adapter the coil whine did not go. Then I decided to send it to the Lenovo service. I was very disappointed with the quality of the Lenovo support. They are very unserious about the problem and very rude in the way they treat the customer. They are doing all kinds of tricks to prevent me from returning the laptop and ignoring the problem. In Turkey in the first 6 months if there is a factory problem I should be able to return the laptop and get a refund. My laptop is in the service for about 1 month. I have to travel for about 1.5 hours to go to the service (I did not want to use the shipping option since I did not want to deal with shipping problem like breaking the laptop). They are making me go there for the 3rd time in one month. Since coil whine is a factory problem I want to get a refund or get a new laptop. Can a Lenovo represantative help me with that?

Hello,I have a problem with audio over HDMI.I make fresh preinstall of Windows 10, update with drivers from Lenovo Support and was without result.I try without update of drivers, try with Windows 8 and again - in Sound->Playback devices you can't see HDMI.In the same time, the picture is fine, but just no audio. I try with drivers from Intel support site, but nothing too.At the final, to be sure that HDMI device like hardware is not defected or broken - I try with Linux Ubuntu Live from USB flash and it's working fine! So the problem is not physical. It's a software problem between Lenovo, Intel and Windows drivers and OS.Now is with fresh installed Windows 10 again and updated drivers from Lenovo Support site again and again is without HDMI audio.Any ideas?

Your BIOS is only updateable through the windows platform. Are you stating that you can not get into the BIOS settings?  Page 27 of the user guide shows how to access BIOS setup, using the Novo button, from a POWERED DOWN machine.https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/v310_14isk-15isk_ug_en.pdf

Hello, I just bought this laptop 3 days ago and after 1 day of use it's already not working. After the normal updates of windows 10 an official bios update was shown by lenovo which technically was correctly installed. Then while I was transferring a folder from my local network windows 10 crashed. After reboot it crashed again untill it became stuck in boot menu. I tried everything from changing uefi to legacy but it kept going to boot menu and then I noticed the hard disk wasn't recognized by the BIOS, but the weird thing is that sometimes it loads up untill windows recovery menu so it partially reads the hard disk and then dies again since I can't access c drive from command prompt nor see the hard disk with diskpart list disk command. I also hear a click noise every minute or so when this happens. I don't know what to do. Does anyone know any solution? In case it's a hard disk failure does warranty cover this?Extra info: when I got it out of the box the screen frame was a little bit open on two sides, so could it be that the laptop got damaged during shipping and the sata cable is partially loose? Thanks in advance.

After i upgraded to BIOS 2XCN30WW(V2.05) dated 2017/06/21 i started to experience lags and temporary freezes (for 20/30 seconds and it would recover) while using windows 10 creators edition. The lag/freeze can be described as a period of time every 10 minutes or so in which the computer stops responding to keyboard input and eventually to mouse movements, if you had a youtube video or audio playing in the background it starts coming out distorted, everything makes you think there is something hogging the CPU or RAM, it recovers itself after 20 or 30 seconds, sometimes less than that.I first blamed Slack Client but quickly found that it didn't have anything to do. It didn't seem related to load as the CPU/RAM usage in Task Manager remained low during these periods.I then blamed a recent Windows Update patch , which i rolled back prompty without noticing any changes. My last option and what ultimately resolved the issue is the rolling back the BIOS upgrade that i applied at about the same time of the windows patch.I enabled the Allow Back-Flash option in BIOS setup and rolled back to version 2XCN29WW, and the problem dissapeared for good, and just to confirm that the BIOS was to blame after a few days of happy computing i decided to give the new BIOS another try and TADAH! soon after the update the freeze/lags started again.I just wanted to share this with you guys in hopes that if you are having similar issues you can resolve them using this message. And since Lenovo doesn't seem... Hi Nawaid,1. Does your systems have other symptoms? Such as slowing down, application crashing, etc.?2. You may try to perform a memory scan to see if there is any issue on the RAM.

My Lenovo ideapad suddenly crashed and no longer loads properly. Now, if I try to turn it on, it no longer shows the Windows start up log in page, and instead shows a black screen with a blue box "Default boot device missing or boot failed. Insert recovery media and hit any key  then select 'boot manager ' to choose a new Boot Device or to boot recovery media." If you press enter while on this screen, it takes you to a grey page that says 'Boot Option Menu'. It shows 2 choices, both saying EFI PXE Network. When either choice is selected, it takes you to the initial default boot missing page.  Any idea on how to fix this? Especially if there is no reboot disc available?

I recently bought a Lenovo Ideapad 310 about a month ago, shortly after installing all reccomended updates on the Lenovo companion app, including reccomended BIOS and Windows 10 updates my laptop has started getting semi random freezes. When a freeze occurs the entire system locks up, the sound makes a very short interval constant loop, and I have to preform a full reboot. It seems to happen more frequently when playing certain games (CSGO, Left 4 Dead 2) Less frequently when playing less demanding games (Starbound, Minecraft) however sometimes it feels like it can happen at any time as it has happened a few times just browsing the internet or once while idle and downloading something in the background.Sometimes I can tell when it's about to happen. In the case where the computer is about to freeze while playing CSGO I lose connection to the server, the game tell's me it's attempting to reconnect, every time I see this the computer goes into the freeze 5-10 seconds later, This morning I was fast enough to alt tab before the freeze and noticed that my laptop said it was still connected to the internet just before it then froze and I had to reboot I have no idea what could possibly be causing this but wanted to know what my options are or wether anybody else was experiencing similar constant and seemingly random freezes

Hello, I bought a V130-15IKB (81HNA00CGE) a few days ago. It's a model with a 128GB NVME SSD and preinstalled with FreeDOS - perfect for a Debian Linux Laptop. One important reason to buy was the seller's specification which said a second SATA drive (SSD or HDD) could be added while keeping NVME and DVD-RW. As I'm using other Lenovo products (Thinkpad T530, ThinkCentre M83z), I expected good documentation. So I was surprised to find out, that it is not documented in the manuel nor as a "Parts Removal and Replacement Video". So my first question:Is it possible to add a 2nd SATA-Drive - SSD or HDD? When I installed Debian Linux to the Notebook, I had to deal with the UEFI-Bios. I was hoping for a password securable boot menu, but I wasn't able to configure this separatly. Only activating a poweron-password did the job. So I hoped a bios update could help. But I realized, only Win10-based BIOS-Updates are provided. This leads me to my second question:Is there any way to update my BIOS without using Win10? Thanks for your (even partly) answers! Regards
