Q: Ideapad 300 Freezes

My new Ideapad 300 frequently freezes while web surfing - most often while in Facebook. I have to shut down the lid and open it again to get it operating again. Sometimes I have to shut and open the lid a couple of times. Is this a hardware problem or a software problem?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I have a Lenovo Yoga-3 Pro and it does the exact same thing. It arbitratily STOPS. However my computer stops while doing anything, browser, Word, Excel, anything. I have done all the hardware checks and contacted support. They really had no solution that I did not already try. The number of problems I have had with this machine in 14-m of ownership have been so overwhelming I have ordered a new non-Lenovo laptop. I cannot take it any longer.

Hey. I've owned my Lenovo Ideapad 310 since black friday and since then I have had issues with my PC freezing itself, like a bluescreen without actually getting a bluescreen. Sometimes when I push it with alot of tabs and programs and sometimes when I not even using the pc.I need to do a force shutdown and restart it again. Anyone here with the same problem and knows how to fix this? This is REALLY annoying...

Just bought an Ideapad 520-15IKB.After installing Win 10, I noticed a stange problem : if i leave it open, after 30 mins - 1 hour of inactivity, the laptop freezes ( no high CPU load or hard-disk activity), just freezes. If i close the lid it goes to sleep, when I open the lid, the system resumes... What can I do to get rid of this problem ?Thank you.

My Y700 is less than 2-month old. Recently, I was facing the following issue. I am able to repeat the issue by only boot up the laptop and leave it without running any other applications. 1. First, the keyboard becomes non-responsive after sometime. At this point, the mouse from touch pad still works, and I can continue the applications (if any) I already started. However, trying to launch any new application, even as simple as "cmd" or "taskmgr" will fail. 2. Some time later, the laptop totally freezes. Sometimes, it will reboot and enter the "Nova button mode" - but still, the keyboard freezes and I can't select any other options (once I tried to attach an external USB keyboard before it freezes, then in the Nova button mode, the external keyboard works, but any option, "normal boot", "recovery mode", or whatever, simply fails and hangs). Sometimes, it simply hangs. In both cases, the only thing I can do is keep pressing the power button to force shut down. This is really annoying. Anybody has similar experience? Any solution? (I could try factory restore, but come on...it is only 2-month old!)

Hi; i ve just bought a brand new ideapad700 laptop 3 weeks ago and after one week the it started to freeze without giving any sign of cautions( even cursor is not responding) and needed to be shut down by holding the power button every time. I've read some suggestions from net and changed some power settings from control panel (just to give it a try), and it worked well for a while. But now , i am facing with the same problem again and thinking of returning it back ,but still i cannot explain the situation because it happens randomly. Maybe the win 10's power settings causes it, or an uncompatible screencard driver issue i don't know... But i am stucked right now.... Does anybody have the similiar problem with their ideapad? And any solutions? Thanks...

Hi all, I have just received an Ideapad 310-15ISK with Nvidia 920M graphics card.The operational system is Windows 7 Enterprise.  I have installed the latest Nvidia driver: "376.33-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql".The problem is if I want to run an application that uses this video card (and not the default Intel), I receive a blue screen with graphics card problem and the machine freezes.  Is it a hardware issue and should I send it back?? Thanks!

I wanted to find the solution for my issue on my own by researching it on forums, however I almost tried everything and I got very tired of that so decided to write a massive post about, somebody might have experienced the same issue(s) and could help me out.
 
I purchased my Lenovo Ideapad 305(Processor: Intel Pentium N3540 processor(N3540): : Memory: 8GB DDR3L 1600 a year ago. Had WIN 8.1(64bit) on it, I have recently upgraded to WIN 10(64bit), the issues was present at 8.1 system as well, basically thats why I have upgraded it.But also done factory reset before upgrade. On WIN 10 the experience destroying situations are less, however most of them pretty much remained.
 
I only can guess my issue might be CPU related, could caused by the current driver (which is updated to latest version). CPU is massively overwhelming when I play games(10 year old: Call of duty2, on minimal graphics) Did once Dust Cleaning at Integrated Lenovo app. Issue remained.. Downloaded latest drivers from Win update, and Lenovo support site. CPU usage jumps top 100% randomly, when happens the situation below: Most of the apps are not responding when I use them.
 
Example: IE11 or Edge are not responding for 15-20 seconds when I log in to various sites. Some times the browser is running nicely and fast, but still randomly keeps not responding.. Its also affecting event viewer. When I launch and want to check for System log files it takes ages(30 secs) to load 500 event... Read more

My Yoga Ideapad 13 often freezes (no warning or indication) and then will shut down after about five minutes.  There's no frequency or activity pattern that I can work out, sometimes it happens soon after I start up the notebook and at other times I can be working for days without incident, and I don't think it's related to overheating or processor demand either. I have tried all the updates I can find but still have this problem.  It seems to happen more when I am connected to my docking port, but that may be just coincidence as I use it more than just the notebook on its own. Although I have my Office Apps autosave set for 1 minute I still lose work, or have to waste time recovering the data back to the working file.

I installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on my Lenovo ideapad Y430 (which came with Vista Home Premium 32-bit). It worked fine for a few hours. However, it now freezes up within 1 minute after I sign on after rebooting. The cursor stops moving, Task Manager won't come up, no disk activity, etc. Booting in Safe Mode works fine, so I'm thinking it's an issue related to a driver or service that doesn't load in Safe Mode. Event Viewer doesn't reveal much of use; only the fact that I needed to power off without shutdown. Vista still runs fine on another partition.

Has anyone seen anything like this, or have any ideas on how I can get Windows 7 running again (e.g., by identifying and removing/updating the offending driver/server, if that's what's causing the problem)? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

The fact that it seems fine (as it's never happened - not even once?) in safe mode is A Good Thing, because it suggests that the causes are software-based. Something that loads in normal mode but not safe mode is presumably the culprit.

One way to start troubleshooting is with the MSCONFIG utility. Start off by choosing the "diagnostic" startup mode and rebooting. If that works, as in there are no hangs, go to "selective" startup and disable/enable the various optional components until you zero-in on the culprit.

If "diagnostic" mode doesn't stop the hangs from occurring in normal mode, uninstall your anti-virus and any 3rd-party firewalls (disabling them is not enough). Test what happens when running without them.

Good morning, I've entered dozens of websites trying to figure out how to change this. If i'm pressing any button on the keyboard, the touchpad freezes. My OS is windows 10 home, the notebook is the ideapad 310 15ISK, i've tried to go into sinaptics conf of the touchpad, but there isn't the menu as there are in others notebooks, there are only a few options about rotation, zoom, scrolling, movements with multiple fingers etc. I noticed that on the configurations of the system there is an option where I select the delay of the touchpad after typing, and I've chose no delay, so after less than 2 secs it comes back to normal, but it still freezes while typing, and I'd really like to change that. How can I do that?Oh, and I believe it's worth mentioning that I'm from Brazil. I've put a print from the configs.By the way, there is this bar... "Controle da palma" that would mean "Palmcheck", but it is disabled... I belive it would solve this situation, how could I manage to turn it on??

Hello.Why my previous post was deleted?I bought my laptop in April 2018. I had to replace it because HDD usage was always 100% and too noisy. Another one was better but still 100% of HDD usage. I've replaced it with SSD drive and upgraded memory from 8 GB to 12 GB. Then fan was replaced on warranty because it was too noisy also so I had some struggle with this machine...Finally, it works silently but then I've noticed that it freezes almost every 5 seconds for 1 second constantly.  I can further use my laptop but the issue still occurs and it's really uncomfortable. It stops when I restart my laptop (sometimes twice). It's strange because sometimes I can run my laptop without any issue.Installed drivers:1. BIOS2. Chipset3. Intel ME Firmware4. Intel MEI5. Intel UHD Graphics6. NVIDIA GeForceI've checked my machine using Lenovo Solution Center and everything seems to be ok.Any pieces of advice what can be wrong? Last month I already had this problem 3 times, before I did not. The problem was when I started the laptop, the LENOVO screen appeared, but it freezed. The dots normally running in a circle below LENOVO did not appear. Last week was even worse, because my screen freezed when using, then I got a message saying that the laptop needed to restart but when it did it freezed again.  I already tried restarting by the power on/off button or waiting a long time before it kept on with the starting process, but both did not work. The only solution seemed to be waiting a few hours with the laptop shut down and then starting it, but that is of course not the best solution I guess. Is there any way I can fix this problem?

Sounds like you got a driver from Microsoft update that is causing you problems. Try a system restore and then turn off automatic updates so you can then choose which updates to install. Watch out for driver updates and do them one at a time till you find the one messin' you up.

NOTE: Just because it's from Microsoft doesn't mean it's the best choice.

Now I don't actually know if this is the correct subject to put this on, but when I looked for it the settings it said my laptop is an Ideapad 120S-11IAP, so this is close enough. Essentially the title. Usually happens when I'm playing games set in a Google Chrome window (likely HTML urls). Help would be appreciated, as it's annoying as hell to want to peek at a Youtube video and then go back to the game to see my progress has been lost.

Hi. I have a problem with the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 15D. I was using it normally one day, using Google Chrome, when it suddenly stopped responding. The whole PC stopped responding (although I could still use the mouse normally) and I had to manually shut it off. When I tried turning it back on, it took at least 10 minutes, and froze again about 5 minutes later. Now, the computer freezes after 10 minutes of use, even when I'm not even logged in. I bought this laptop about a week ago, and for the most part I love it. Unfortunately though, I've been experience an annoying black screen freeze for no apparent reason.  Some days the laptop will work fine for several hours and other days it'll keep turning black and freezing up for no apparenent reason every 15 or so minutes. I did open it up to add an SSD to the available slot and move the operating system to it, but I don't see how this would cause a problem, ive even been through every device in the device manager to check for driver and bios updates too. Does anyone know a solution? After updating my Ideapad 520-15IKB with 8th Gen Core i5 I've noticed regular freezes almost all the time. Also the temperature of the CPU gets quite high and CPU has max. frequency almost all the time (even on battery) which means poor battery life.  At the end I had to revert my laptop to 1709. Now I'm waitng for more stable update.

Hi everybody, I have issue with new 520S-14IKB. I bought it 5 days ago.Installed Windows 10 and updated to latest version. Installed all drivers from Lenovo support site. Laptop freezes randomly few times a day. I can't get patternt, because it sometimes crashes while watch youtube, sometimes when swithcing windows, sometimes just by using some text editor. It just stucks, I can't click anywhere, cant switch windows with alt+tab, can't open task manager. I can move mouse and that is it.No any message, no "not responding" message.When I put it on sleep by pressing power button, and turn it on again it runs normally, as nothing happened.It is becoming really anoying because I can't find out what causes the problem. I tried everything I could find on web, also installing intel graphic driver from Intel site manually, turning off Link state power management for PCI express which I found on internet as solutions for windows 10 crashing. I am getting really desperate about this and thinking about returning laptop to my seller back. Can anybody help please?Thanks in advance.Kind regards

When I first had this problem it would only freeze once a day. Now it happens everytime I try to play a game. I have seen some other posts on this forum to try to fix my problem but I still haven't found a fix. I have reinstalled windows, moved some games to my ssd, updated BIOS, updated graphics card drivers / downgrade drivers, etc and the problem continues to happpen. This it what actually happens: Im like 1 min into the game and then all of a sudden the whole laptop freezes and the audio from the game keeps on repeating. The laptop doesn't let me alt + tab, alt + F4, the mouse and keyboard doesn't work at all, I'm forced to do a force shut down. This problem only happens when I'm using the AMD grahics. If I play a game on the intel graphics it won't freeze but the game is barley even playable.I really want this problem fixed!  Please help me.

Hi all, Three years ago I replaced my y510p's hard drive with this SSD.  (Ik this is not a Lenovo product, but hear me out). I've been having some strange issues with my laptop in the past half year, including random BSODs, freezes, and crashes. Sometimes I'd start up the computer and all of a sudden the screen would go black, with just the cursor showing (and it was huge and unmovable), so I'd have to force restart. A couple months ago I started getting massive lag spikes trying to play a video game and in the past week or two, games crash unexpectedly after 10-20 mins of gameplay. Now, this has always seemed like something being wrong with the GPUs to me (I believe they are SLI'd GT755s or 780s). I've had plenty of graphics issues related to NVIDIA rolling out bad drivers, etc. However, on doing a Lenovo hardware scan, I got a WARNING result for the SMART Short Self Test of my SSD, which is my main drive holding Windows and many of my programs. This is my result code: WHD400000-DN7Z5J. I can't find anything online about what it means and the Lenovo app isn't telling me what it means, so could it be that the SSD is behind the freezing and crashes? I did some research and many people are complaining about this SSD suddenly dying, and supposedly the SMART Short Self Test failing/warning means imminent failure. I bought Lenovo Ideapad 320 15-IKB few days ago and I installed new windows 10 and updated it, also installed Lenovo Vantage and made all updates for said laptop, even the BIOS update. Since then, my ideapad freezes randomly, keyboard and trackpad doesnt respond until I shut down by power button or close and open screen. I read on link below that problem was solved by backflashing bios to previous version. My laptop freezes regularly (a couple of times a day). The freezes are completely random and not dependent on any installed software (according to my testing). When the computer freezes I have to hold the power button to shut it down - no other functions are responsive. I ran a hardware scan and nothing showed up. The BIOS and all drivers are up-to-date. I installed CoreTemp and monitored the temperature at the time of freezes and the computer did not seem to be overheating. I have sent it in to Lenovo twice already for repair. The first time they said they found a defective component on the mainboard and replaced it. But in doing so, they disconnected all I/O ports on the right hand side of the computer and didn't test it before returning it to me. The second repair was to reconnect the stuff they disconnected. However, now the freezes are reoccurring and I would like to know if anyone has a solution to this that works before I send it back to Lenovo for a third "repair". This problem is very difficult to reproduce as it's random and so it will be hard for Lenovo to fix it and I have little faith in them to do so.

Hello, so I bought this laptop( specs are as it goes: Intel core i7-6700HQ, 8GB of RAM DDR4, SSD (windows is here only+HDD(here are games) (not hybrid), Geforce GTX 950M - 4GB of RAM) with preinstalled soft and after making the laptop comfortable for my own usage, I started playing some games (lol/diablo 3/Rohan online), and here is where to problems occur... In Lol I have random fps drops and after some minutes random freezes (up to 3-4 seconds with fps going down from 144 to 09 fps) wherever I am (in team fights or just wandering around on the map). In diablo 3 I have random freezes for few miliseconds and also the drop in fps. So now here is the list which I tried after reinstalling the windows by making it clean to get rid of lenovo 3rd apps;-fresh win 10 home 64 bits - didn't help at all to get rid of the problems (no matter if it's lenovo's preinstalled or clean) (win 10 is on SSD while games are run from HDD)-Bios is the latest I could get from lenovo site -In bios I have disabled everyting I could (virtual technology/secure boot/uefi/legacy mode and so on)-Latest drivers I could get for nvidia/intel and so on-Changed using nvidia panel graphics everything I could to get the best performance - failed...-Battery is set to the maximum performance (everywhere)-In battery settings I did the "turn off hdd after" to 0 to make it turned the whole time - failed. I got a 2nd hand Lenovo Ideapad 100S. It came with Win10 installed but had someone elses profile and data. 
(I am not sure if it originally had Win8.1 when it was shipped, there is no rollback option anymore)
 
My preference is to wipe the current installation completely by downloading Win10 and installing a clean copy off USB. 
 
I also usually prefer to delete all partitions, including recovery because future reinstallations can be done from scratch via USB. (I don't need the option of reinstalling from recovery partitions , the extra space is more important)
 
I see a warning in the user guide however .....
"Do not delete or modify the Recovery Partition on a WIMBoot-enabled computer. If the Recovery Partition is deleted or modified, you may not be able to restore Windows to the factory status. For computer models on which WIMBoot is enabled, deleting the Recovery Partition may cause Windows to fail to start. How can I determine whether the Windows running on my computer is WIMBoot enabled? WIMBoot technology is normally enabled on copies of Windows 10 Update running on SSD (or eMMC) -only computer models."
 
What is the best way to do this?

Install a clean copy and remove the partition by booting off a USB, or should I not do this?

It's a good thing you posted first before proceeding with any clean installation. 
Not sure what the Machine Number is to verify the details and specifications of your system.
 
But if you have a pc with a Windows Image Boot (or WIMBoot) you may not want to choose a clean installation. 
This new deployment of installation is compressing part of a big OS file so that you can have an operating system that can only take small spaces intended for small storages (SSD).
 
Best option to wipe out previous owners profile is a have a fresh out of the box image is using the Puch button Factory reset (Novo key similar to Item 7 page 1). Simply shutdown the system and use the button to turn on, System Recovery option would provide One key recovery from initial backup to do it. 
 
WIM boot are usually created thru OEM depot authorized by Microsoft . DIY for WIMboot maybe a bit complicated.

Hi,
I have Lenovo Ideapad 300-15ISK type/model 80Q700DRSC.
I want to update BIOS, so I downloaded D5CN47WW. In text file it is written that this is BIOS for my computer.
Everything seems fine but when I execute BIOS exe file it says that this is BIOS for Lenovo Paris 300 notebook!
What Paris now? I tried to google but only can find Paris in France.
I am user of Lenovo notebooks for many years (from IBM ThinkPads to this days) but when txt Readme file said
this is update for your computer, it was! This is confusing for me so I cancelled update.
Can anybody explain this mistery?

So one of my friends is running Vista 64-bit with her DXdiag attached.

I also have attached her Windows 7 (today, a more recent Dxdiag).

Her computer was fine about two months ago and shes had it for 13 months. Then these "freezes/lockups" started randomly throughout the day. She'll be gaming or just browsing the internet with a few AIM/MSN windows opened, random programs will lock up and freeze while others stay perfectly functional. Windows seldom freezes along with the programs, but it does happen occasionally where she can't use task manager and the windows button is forced to freeze for about 2-10minutes. She hasn't had freezes above 13ish minutes because she manually shuts down her computer about that time.

Sometimes when she freezes, she gets past bios and while windows was loading it sent her to a black screen that didn't load anything. She had to keep restarting a couple of times and waiting 10ish minutes and eventually her windows loaded up. She says this doesn't usually happen either.

She wiped about a month ago and it didn't really do anything. At all. She did a clean format/reinstall of windows and these freezes still happen with the same occurrence rate/severity/duration.

I also have the event viewer logs of her system, and programs. They were taken right after the freezes. Not sure if these help, they seem like a bunch of crap to me, but just incase? I can't tell anything for certain from it but it does say there are some errors.

Have no clue as to patterns - genuinely seems random. Previously had IE6 latest service pack loaded and it would freeze on average - 6 times a day - with no *.dmp file even though the Drwatson registry key was installed! Switched to Firefox, and immediate improvement - it now freezes randomly once every 2 days or so - often occurs when zonealarm receive green lights are on, and sometimes when many apps are open at once. Also no blue BSD would show - it just stops working - no mouse response, no keyboard response - not even Ctrl Alt Del - wait 5 minutes still nothing. I am running windows XP home edition SP 2, accessing internet via Road Runner. I upgraded Internet Explorer. It froze so I killed it and restarted again. It finished properly the second time, or so it seemed.

IE7 ran OK the first time. The 2ns time it froze on a blank window. No toolbars, no status bar, no nothing, just the frame and blank inside.

Other symptoms: Internet Options opens up OK from the control panel, and every tab seems OK, but when I go connections, LAN settings, the button shows depressed, and the thing freezes.

I can access the WWW without a problem via Firefox. Outlook sends and receives email without a hitch. But any program that checks internet options to see about proxy settings or similar, freezes. Example Intellicast and the Zinio reader. Example the setup program for Max Registry Cleaner and Registry Mechanic.

I ran a virus scan with AVG. The machine was clean. I cleaned up the registry with RegistryFix. There were a lot of lose ends, now it is clean. I ran AVG Anti Spyware. It has a residue of 45 tracking cookies, nothing else. I uninstalled Intellicast and the Zinio reader. Nothing made a difference.

Here is the log from Hijack This. I will be most thankful for your help in figuring out this one.

Sounds like the hard drive. It may be corrupt. Download Ubuntu and save your stuff, first. If you cannot, it is most likely hardware or hard drive, which is hardware.

I got a rather irritating Virtumundo problem earlier and while i did manage to remove it or so the virtumunodbegone program claims, my browsers are not working properly so i would like some help in fixing them if possible. Hi all,For several months my PC has been frustratingly slow. However, I have dealt with it. Now however, when I click on "start" my PC will completely freeze, not allowing me to access anything. When closing programs, the desktop slowly scrolls back onto the screen instead of instantly appearing. I wish there was more details to share but there is none to my knowledge. Operating system: Windows XP pro (sp2 ?)
2 physical hard drives, each with 2 or 3 partitions.
C: 1st partition, mainly used for program files, although some important data is also located on that partition
Mallware/virus attack included the following:
- Multiple advert windows opening up.
- Various warnings (about 17 infections) from AVG Free: Quarantined most, remainder needed restart. Unfortunately I did not take note of the specific virus id's.
- Windows security warnings popped up, although these got very confusing, as malware/virus was impersonating the Windows alerts, and produced a duplicate security shield in the taskbar.
One warning indicating AVG as unauthorised virus software with option to remove! I did ignore that one!
- Mallware/virus installed some (rogue?) malware/virus software on the infected PC
- I tried to perform root scan with unhackme but machine froze (1st time)
- On restart warning window pops up: Google update not accessible? On both options (debug or close) machine froze.
When totally ignoring the Google warning box, Windows does appear to finish loading, however when going to my computer, the windows warning appears to the effect that on proceeding I will be accessing the system files. On proceeding all files and folders (including data & program files) appear to be system files, and the machine freezes.

I've an Asus f5sl laptop with Vista Home Premium (32bit) but it's been freezing on me lately.

When I boot up, it gets to the black screen with the green bar but after a few seconds, the green bar freezes and I can't log in. Occasionally it boots up after around half an hour but then Vista periodically freezes for a few seconds before resuming (which is annoying when trying to write out something etc)
I don't see any problems in Safe Mode so is possibly a driver? I've updated all my drivers, completely updated using WIndows Update, ran antispyware, used System Restore etc

Only problem is; I've moved to a new country, and like a fool, I left my Vista start up disk back home. Which I would otherwise have tried.
