I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

go into Programs and Features and double click Windows live Essentials like you are uninstalling it, but instead it will ask you if you want to uninstall or repair. Do the repair and see if WLM gets fixed.

If not back up WLM with the tutorial on here and uninstall it and reinstall it and see if that works and fixes it

a. Installed "System Update Readiness Tool" (Windows6.1-KB947821-v12-x64.msu - ~ 320MB)
b. ran "sfc/scannow" - it found few errors and fixed automatically.

hey guys! I am having a problem. I just installed windows xp over windows 7 (don't ask) and it worked, but it was on sp1b, and there weren't any drivers. anyways windows realized how old my version was and started getting all of these updates, and a bunch were securities patches blah blah...

If you used the Magic Jelly Bean to "make it genuine" by changing the Product Key to one that is legit, then your XP is not "pirate". It's legit, although the data that you used might be infected, etc...Hopefully that saves your thread from being closed.I think it's possible to repair a Windows Genuine function, but don't know how to do it. It looks like your "pirated" software has the copyright protection disabled, and you need it working to validate your legal Product Key.I'd suggest doing a Repair Install with a basic OEM Installation Disk. Hopefully it will accept your Product Key. If that fails, and you have a Product Key it will accept, you can change it via MJB, and then pass the Genuine Advantage check.Maybe.Good luck. You know you are WAY out in the weeds, right ?

I?ve tried for weeks to upgrade my computer to Win7 SP1. My current installation is Win7 Ultimate x64 (Norwegian). What happens is that the installation seems to proceed OK until ?configuring Service Pack? has reached 99% after the last reboot. Then I get a message telling that ?error configuring SP1? (freely translated from the Norwegian text ? don?t know what it will be in the English version) and the OS is restored to previous state. The error code is 0x80004005 which seems to be a tricky one. I believe I?ve tried every trick in the book; updating every possible device driver, running the update readiness tool (v.14), checked for system file errors using the sfc-command (no errors), ran chkdsk, made a copy of the SoftwareDistribution folder and deleted the contents of the original, upgraded the Windows Update Agent, ran installation of the Service Pack manually from a downloaded exe-file, reregistered the WU-files using a freeware utility (Fix WU Utility v 1.0) and so on. Most of these tasks are ran as Administrator and with my security software (ZoneAlarm ISS) disabled (I haven?t stopped the Windows Defender service though?). I?ve even pulled out a video capture card (Pinnacle AV/DV PCI 100) that I believed could be the cause of trouble because I once had trouble installing this card into the 64-bit environment. I probably did a lot of other things too but I can?t remember it all as I?ve messing around with this problem since last year?

When I launch Movie Maker on my relatively new laptop (just a few months old) I get a flash on the screen as if Movie maker is about to open then a pop-up with this error message: "Sorry, Movie Maker had to shut down unexpectedly. Please restart it, then try again. (Error 0x80004005)"
However, I cannot restart the program and try again as Movie Maker was never open in the first place. Since the first time I tried launching Movie Maker on this computer I have received this error message. Movie Maker came preinstalled on this computer but has never worked.
I have researched this error multiple times but I have found no real answers, and nothing that actually worked.
I have already tried the following:
Restarting the computer
Uninstalling and reinstalled Movie Maker (in windows live essentials)
Running As Administrator
Using the system file checker tool (which was recommended in another thread posted by a user who has the same problem as I do. It did not work for that user either.)
I would appreciate any help with this. Thank you for your time!

I work in a large enterprise environment and we have been having trouble getting
ANY of the Windows Quality Rollups to install on a substantial number of systems, going back to the April rollup - KB4015549. All logs are indicating error "0x80004005" Unspecified error (gee, thanks
for specifics MS). I think our problem has something to do with whatever transaction occurs when a newer rollup is installed that supersedes a previously installed rollup (overwriting the previous, removing the previous KB, etc) due to the fact that we are
getting the same errors when we simply try to uninstall the April rollup. These systems do not have the AMD processors referenced in the KB article for known issues, nor do they have any problems installing any other Windows updates including the monthly 'security

A few months ago I got a new laptop (MSI GE Series GE70 Apache Pro-012) and when trying to run the Windows Live Movie Maker that came with it, there's a flash shown on the screen as if the program's about to open, then an error message pops up with the text:

Sorry, Movie Maker had to shut down unexpectedly. Please restart it, and then try again. (Error: 0x80004005)

I have tried:
*Rebooting the computer
*Uninstalling Movie Maker & Photo Gallery then reinstalling
*Updating graphics drivers (NVIDIA GTX 860m)
etc, etc.

to no avail. I couldn't find any good answers when googling it, and while some people offered general fixes like running the troubleshooter, they still didn't work.

I've never run Movie Maker before on this laptop without an error, but shouldn't it be able to work as it came on the computer originally?

I have a Lenovo R60e ThinkPad laptop running Windows XP Professional 64x SP3 and It's giving me some trouble. It runs a Intel Celeron M @ 1.4gHz, 2GB DDR RAM, has no fingerprint scanner, 3 USB's, and a basic Intel Graphics card (I apologize for not having the information on-hand). I'll try to list the problems in order as they occurred. I hope not much of this is irrelevant, because I want to give you guys all of the information you need.
Computer started off with a couple of basic Trojans. After cleaning them off, it didn't want to boot on me properly. Safe Mode, here I come.
Safe mode was working well off, but not with networking. After restarting the computer numerous times and finally selecting "Last known good configuration", the computer booted back up promptly. Just to verify, I ran a chkdsk /f in command prompt, restarted the computer and it was okay. This is where I went trigger happy.
Instead of leaving it be, I wanted to make sure it was okay. I proceeded to run a sfc /scannow in XP, and make a OEM .ISO of the corresponding OS to use. It told me to insert "Windows XP Prof CD 2". I have a legal copy of Windows 2003 (stating this right out so I don't get the slams about geting something legal due to the error I am getting).

Here is how everything went down. My W2K3 server is a DNS, File, Print, and FTP server, and has my only scanner attached to it. All of this rolled into one server since there is such a light load (only 12 users). I only log onto it about once a week. Last week I accessed it just to do some scans and that was it. It was not rebooted. Also I will indicate my userid has full Domain Admin rights. This week I went to log in and I got the following error -

A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error Code: 0x80004005

This is right after I type in my password and hit enter. Okay I figure I will log in with the original Domain admin account this too gives me the same error. Rebooting to Safe mode I can log on to either of these 2 accounts so I do have PC access.

The other strange thing is the Restoring Network Connections portion of the standard logon is now taking about 20 minutes (when it used to only take 5) but the funny thing is it is acting 100% correctly even without anyone being logged on. I can access its shares even \\Server\C$ with my admin accounts. I can print to the print que. I can even resolve the DNS from the internet through my server. So its obvious that the server still has 100% capabilities and function. Even other users without Domain Admin rights have access to... Read more

settings on your "normal" wireless adapter also need made on this one.  For me, this included enabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP (under IPv4 settings) and ensuring IPv6 was disabled.  Again, THE INTERFACE IS DISABLED, but these changes still
"magically" made my sharing work immediately.

I am getting this error when I am install Windows 7: Windows could not format a partition on disk 0 - error code 0x80004005 during a new install of Windows 7. I have tried both Home Premium x64 and Enterprise x64. Both falling into the same error: I've removed all partition using gparted, and created a single primary partition, but I keep getting that error. Here is what happens:

After days of chasing this, I'm, baffled and would appreciate assistance.
I have been unable to install SP1 since it came out, and finally committed to solving the issue. Fail occurs at 80+% completion with the error 0x80004005.

CBS.log Error line says:

The installer seems to get stuck dealing with the Windows Mail msoe.dll. Two years ago I had followed the manual steps posted in this forum to restore Windows Mail in place of Windows Live Mail. Once the issue was identified as Mail-related, I restored the original msoe.dll files in the two Windows Mail folders. (see attached screencap.) I then switched to/uninstalled/reinstalled Live Mail (which works) to try to get SP1 to find the files it is expecting to find.

Hi,

I would like to suggest you try the following steps to see what the result is:

1.
Disable the firewall temporarily for a test.
2.
 Try to disable IP v6.
How to disable IP version 6 (IPv6) or its specific components in Windows 7, in Windows Vista,
in Windows Server 2008 R2, and in Windows Server 2008
3.
disabled Requiresecuritysignature on Windows 2008 under lanmanserver:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Lanmanserver\Parameters\Requiresecuritysignature registry value is set to 0,

and on Windows client under lanmanworkstation:

Hello, before let you know about my problem, sorry about my english.
I have a serius problem with my Windows XP (not authentic). A few days ago something happens with my MSN, forced me to update my XP to Service Pack 2. Big problem because as I told you, my Win is not authentic (a copy). I found a program to validate my XP and I could install the service pack2 without any problem, but when I restart my pc gives me this fatal error, "One problem not allow Windows to check the validation of the licence on this pc. Codigo de error: 0x80004005". Of course, I don't want to format the hard disk. I can't restart in a safe way eather.

Note: I have another partition on this hard disk, with windows installed and running normally, so I can see the other part with my Windows Explorer.

If someone can help me, I will very happy.
Thank you very mich for your time

Hi everyone,

I was just helping a friend update their newly installed system running a Windows 7 Ultimate x64bit OS and have completed all Windows Updates. The Windows installation was from an image which I used to reimage the hard drive with the OS. When checking for software updates using Ninite it resulted in an error.

I honestly don't know if this could be a Windows problem, a Windows Update problem (something that could have gone wrong during/after) or could it be due to software?

Not sure if this is a normal error occurance. I've never encountered this kind of problem from a newly installed and updated system before. Any help and advise would be greatly appreciated.

A:Getting an 'Unspecified Error' - 0x80004005 for

Do you mean that attempting to install Ninite, it threw this error, or do you mean that it's installed already, and throws this error when attempting to install an update?
I don't see WU being in the list of offered 'clients' - although .NET 4.5.2 is, as are some other things possibly probably best left to WU.

When I try to use Windows Update I get this error code. What does this mean and how can I fix it!?

A:Error Code: 0x80004005

Hi

A 0x80004005 is a typical warning indicating you have no Internet connection (while you may have) because the update service is having problems establishing a perfect two-way communication with Microsoft servers.

There are reasons, but first some questions:

Is your XP genuine and validated?
Do you run a proxy?
Any malware/viruses that you've scanned for recently? (best to do so)
Do you have a good network connection or is it patchy or with problems from the ISP side?

I have a problem with windows validation and would really like some help.
I built a computer about a month ago, and installed a copy of Windows XP Professional. It is a legitimate disc not a pirate copy. I have also installed many software programs including AVG antivirus, Office etc

*

When I turned my computer on today it boots up but when I try to log in I get a popup saying:
*Windows Product Activation* This copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can log on. Do you want to activate Windows now?
I have the option of Yes or No. If I click No it goes back to the Log in Screen and I don’t get much further. If I click yes I get another pop up window saying:
*Windows Product Activation* A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for the computer. Error Code: 0x80004005.
This only lets me press okay and then I am back to square one. I can’t log into my account.
(I know I should have activated before)
*
A quick browse of the internet told me that maybe some of my registry files might be corrupt. After booting up the Recovery Console from the Windows XP Professional disc I renamed the following files:
Wpa.dbl
Pidgen.dll
Licdll.dll
Regwizc.dll
Licwmi.dll
Wpabaln.exe
To:
Wpa.old
Pidgen.old
Licdll.old
Regwizc.old
Licwmi.old
Wpabaln.old
I did this with the hope I could log into the CD, and do the following:
• Expand licwmi.dl_ C:\WINDOWS\System32
• Expand regwizc.dl_ C:\WINDOWS\System32
• Expand licdll.dl_ C:\WINDOWS\System32

i need help!! i'm at wits end with error code 0x80004005

im working on a Dell Inspiron 1150 with windows XP Home. basically, the product key files got removed in the process of cleaning up the hard drive. i did the steps shown on the website http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914232
when i got to the part where i had to type the expand commands, i kept getting an ACCESS DENIED message after each command. (for example: EXPAND licwmi.dl_C:\WINDOWS\System32, then id press ENTER, the message would read: ACCESS IS DENIED)

i went ahead through all the steps but i still cant log on to normal mode. i get to the logon screen, put the password, and it gives me an empty message box (it just has a red X). after i hit OK on it, it begins to start up but immediately logs me back out.

i can still get onto safe mode but thats about it. i run the registry cleaner on CCleaner. I get an ActiveX/COM Issue on regwiz.dll, licwmi.dll, licdll.dll, licwmi.dll, licwmi.dll and a Missing MUI Reference on LaunchPad.exe. the fix for these is to delete them, but i dont know if i should.

well this is my dilemma. i hope somebody can help me. i really need it. thanks.
