Start button / Quick launch buttons / Task bar Buttons - Problem

Q: Start button / Quick launch buttons / Task bar Buttons - Problem

Several times now, when I start my computer, everything seems normal. But when I try and click on the start button, a quick launch button or a task bar button - NOTHING HAPPENS. I just get a ping sound from my speakers.
Sometimes a restart fixes the problem and sometimes I have to turn the computer off and then on again to get it to work correctly.

Does anyone know what could be wrong and what I can do to fix it.

Preferred Solution: Start button / Quick launch buttons / Task bar Buttons - Problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Pavilion dv7-3165dx with win 7 home premium factory installed, and recently I noticed that my mute button in the quick launch buttons has quit changing to white when the speakers are unmuted. Hello, I recently upgraded to Windows 10 using my Elitebook 8540w. However, the quick launch buttons seem to be working incorrectly. When I open the quick launch buttons menu there is no 'programmable buttons' tab and I cannot adjust the function of my quick launch buttons even though that should be the case. When I uninstall the quick launch buttons driver the buttons do use my preferred programs for my internet browser and e-mail program but the functionality keys on my keyboard, i.e. for adjusting screen brightness, stop working (Fn + f8-f11). Is there any properly working driver for the HP Quick launch buttons for Windows 10 at the moment or do I just have to pick the lesser evil? Thank you in advance

Hi, All F* buttons are all ready programmed such as F1 for Help, F2 for ...... F12 for wireless... . If you wish to overwrite, you need to use other software. For example: I use a software called ISPF everyday and the program itself gives me F2 for Spit, F3 for End, F5 for Find, F7 for Up, F8 for Down, F10 for Left, F11 for Right .... up to F24. Regards.

Hi everyone,

Can someone help me on my small problem I'm having with Windows Quick Lauch Buttons...

As you can see from the picture below, the background blue color is missing and every icons have a white background instead of the original blue color. This happened after the computer was shut off due to the power wall plug being switched off accidentally while the computer is still on. After I booted the computer up, as usual Windows will do a scan check. But on completion of the boot up and scanning, I can see the Quick Launch icons are missing their blue background color.

Anyone knows how to get this fix? Any ideas and thoughts would be welcome

Hi all,

My Quick Launch Button LEDs (the ones at the top of the keyboard, not the fn+Fx keys) stopped working, so I contacted HP support. They asked me to uninstall the Quick Launch s/w from "Add/Remove Programs", so I did. Then they gave me a link where I should have been able to reinstall the s/w plus a new security patch, but that didn't work. Now, they have no idea what I should do.

I've searched around the HP site, but can't find the s/w to download the function for my nc2400.

Google gave me a post from this site from 2006 where a link for a different model was posted. Can anyone help me find the right place for me to download the Quick Launch s/w for my nc2400. I'm running Windows XP Professional.

didn't install a new hard drive, but i am having nearly the exact problem?
I went to the device manager; says everything is up and running fine, but i uninstalled two different drivers (not sure which ones really managed the buttons them selves?)

1)Human Interface Devices\HP Quick Launch buttons
2)Keyboards\HID keyboard device

rebooted (though it did not ask me too?)
still nothing - went to HP (as stated above) and Downloaded the SoftPaq.exe file to a directory on your hard drive. (c:\SWSetup\SP27082) - the first time, it got 3/4 through the install, and then "crashed" my computer/rebooted automatically, but to no avail.
tried it a second time, made it through the complete install, (no crash/reboot) but still doesn't work?

I have a HP Compaq 6715b - quick launch are not really buttons, rather touch sensitive, and they 'work' in that i touch them, and they light up, but thats it?

this started about 1 week ago, and the only thing i did prior to this failure was on the programmable buttons window i changed the settings from "presentation" to "Q menu"

Any suggestions?

Try using the System Restore, choose a date prior to the start of this problem.Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Restore. When this opens make sure that "Restore my computer to an earlier time" is chosen, and click on Next>.The dates appearing in bold are the dates that you can restore to, click on the date that you want and then click Next> to start the System Restore, you may get the message telling you that you will have to restart your computer to start, click ok. Hey all,

I just bought a new keyboard. Along the top there are a whole bunch of buttons. The ones I'd like to ask you guys about are the media ones. Currently they all work for Windows Media Player, but I was wondering if there was anyway I could get them to work for my SonicStage Player which I use more often. I can get the one for launching the media player to work for SonicStage, but the play/pause, stop, skip forward, skip backward ones don't just go to *.exe files (I'm assuming) so I'm not quite sure what I would do, if it's even possible.

It's a Labtec Media Keyboard (See: )

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

I keep 'losing' my quick-launch icons on the left-hand side of the task-bar. The icons first become inoperative, and shortly afterwards vanish altogether. Hovering the mouse pointer over the quick-launch corner does briefly produce the outline of buttons, and the "tip box", but nothing further. They do return if I re-boot, but are soon gone again. If I right-click-Open Folder, Win explorer opens the folder containing the links, and clicking on those links does work. Any ideas folks?

Any help greatly appreciated. Helping a friend to fix her PC, but this exceeds my own (limited) technical know how.

The machine will start up fine, but once all programs have loaded, there is no start button or quicklaunch (yet the drag bars on the bottom bar are in place to suggest that they are there). The desktop icons are visible, but once something like My Documents is opened, the names of the files are there, but no icons. Pressing ctrl alt del has no effect.

The PC won't recognize any wireless networks, and can't connect to the internet.

I also tried installing some malware and spyware removal tools from a pen drive, but get the message "The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

Tried to bring up device manager and got this message:

You might have to remove the hard drive from this computer and install it in another computer as a slave drive and after it is able to be accessed by Windows on that computer you will have to manually backup all of your important data that you have to another media like CD-R's, DVD or Thumb drive. Then when this is done return it to the original computer as a master drive on the primary IDE cable and do the following:

Not a major problem, just did or undid something I'm used to and want it back.

My browser is pinned to the task bar, I have the task bar set to 'never combine', so if I have a lot of browser windows open I have a LOT of browser tabs to look at. No matter how many browser instances were open, I still had the browser icon showing in quick launch.
Yesterday, I had several browser windows (not tabs) open when I moved one to get it closer to another it was directly related to and the quick launch browser icon disappeared for some reason.
Now, whenever I open the browser, the quick launch icon goes away, so the only way to open a new browser window is to right click a 'tab' and select the browser.
The same thing is happening with everything on my quick launch.
I know how to work around it, but it isn't the way I'm used to working, so it slows me down.

The icons are there 'til I open them, then go away as soon as I have one instance running
What did I do and how do I get it back to my normal?

A:win 7 task bar/quick launch mini problem.

You may have inadvertantly clicked something, but more likely you had a glitch come in from the Microsoft Tuesday Patch udpate that affected your desktop. This could also be from a virus such as a spyware, worm, or rootkit virus. They all like to go after the Windows desktop and scramble it. Lastly, it could be what we call a "random coincidental hardware failure". Read this linked post I just did tonight for a similar problem: Desktop looks like explorer.exe is not running

Specifically take a look at Spunk's Post #3 for instructions on how to reset explore.exe from your Task Manager. This often will fix your problem.

If it doesn't you'll have to go through a series of troubleshooting steps in order to isolate whether or not you have virus/malware, a coincidental hardware failure, or just a random corruption in your Windows/Registry. Read my Post #4 for several things to try if you get to this point. *PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE VIRUS SCANNING!* *If you get stuck on what to do here, please visit our VIRUS/MALWARE HELP FORUM see link in my signature below for how to get there; and it's manned by our experts and best it's FREE!!

If SAFE MODE: LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION, SYSTEM RESTORE, or WINDOWS REINSTALLATION still do NOT work, you'll need to begin hardware testing and troubleshooting steps. Post back here, and I can give you another link to read for how to do that and what is required.

Let us know how it goes.

Good luck to you!

A:My laptops launch buttons NOT WORKING

There should be a driver for those buttons that may have been messed up by a Windows Update. Try looking for the drivers manually or even just scanning for updates with builtin-windows/hp software.

A less likely possibility is that they are disabled in the BIOS, which as far as I know is the only place they can be disabled or enabled.
