i bought a student window 7 last night

how ever the problem is when i am installing window 7 .. it says i don't have or it can not find my dvd driver...

i do not understand why it needs my dvd driver when it already is using it ..

does anyone know how to solve this ?

i have a window xp 32bit
and my window 7 is a 64bit

Preferred Solution: Window & installation cannot find CD/dvdrom drive

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Window & installation cannot find CD/dvdrom drive

Sure... just extract the contents of the DVD to a spare drive/partition and run setup.exe from there.... Welcome to the forums!

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling, doing a complete re-formatt, and using MS "mr fix it" program, i have also tried going to the people who made the drive itself, nothing, and i also tried finding firmware for it, again 0

Can someone help?

Do I need to make any changes in BIOS?

Right now my laptop is without any operating system.

Hi -

Re-format the HDD with KillDisk then try XP or Vista install again. Which do you want?

KillDisk - http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm

Make bootable KillDisk ISO CD w/ ImgBurn -
ImgBurn - http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

KillDisk will find some areas on the HDD that "regular" formatting does not.

Hi there was wondering if anyone could help me.

I bought a new custom PC from ebay, a shop called FreshTech Solutions, so when it arrived I tried installing Windows 7 Home Premium (came with it). Obviously I need to do a custom install, as I'm not upgrading from anything, but when I get to the screen where it asks where I would like to install Windows 7, nothing is listed. I've tried loading from the disc that came with the motherboard, the Windows 7 CD itself, even the C drive (said it needed to format it, but couldn't).

I don't really know much about custom computers so was wondering if anyone could help me?

I have this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140816631147?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_6177wt_1186

The motherboard is a Gigabyte Z77-DS3H.

Thanks in advance

hi , i recently installed mac os hackintosh on my laptop , i format my hdd to mac os journaled so that mac os can work, but then i wanted to go back to windows , so when i put my windows installation dvd to install it , it says :
we couldnt find any drives ,load your driver and continue , i need help i cant install my windows .

my pc:

hp pavillion dv6 7080se
my hdd brand is toshiba ..

A:windows 8 installation we couldnt find any drive

that is because windows does not understand the mac os journaled file system you need to go into the mac installer and then when it says to continue or pick disc go into disc utility at the top and format your drive as one partition and pick ms fat as the file system to do it as then in the windows installer you can delete and resize as you need. in the pics in options you want guid not master boot record since its windows 8.

i have one old laptop with a dvdrom drive as its mounted bay device. i have disabled the drive in device manager and also disabled 'mounted bay device' at bios, but on every boot, the pc still reads it once and i hear this 2-3 second whirring from the empty drive. apart from this occurrence at boot, the drive does appear disabled during normal operation.

is there anything i can do short of physically disconnecting the cable to end this?

i don't want it to activate at all, at any time.

A:Whirring DVDRom Drive at Boot

That's just the BIOS checking devices (even if its disabled). If you don't want it at all, disconnect the power and data cables on the rear of the drive.

I'm having some niggling problems with my Afreey DD-4008E DVDROM drive, I hope someone can help me out.

About a year ago, it managed to rip 2 albums before giving up that capability spontaneously, though it always had been troublesome. A couple of weeks ago I reformatted and reinstalled Win98se and the drive has now stopped playing CD audio in most software - Media Player 9, Winamp, Mediasource, Sonicstage, dBPoweramp to name a few. The drive will spin for a couple of seconds then stop for a second, spin for a couple of seconds then stop for a second, and so on. This process will always cause the program to stop responding. The spinning only halts once the tray has been opened. This occurs with original cds too, not only copies.

Cds will play using 'CD Player' under Accessories in the Start Menu and they'll also work using just the hardware, ie just hitting play on the drive itself.

The drive doesn't rip at all - though it must have that capability to have done it before. DVDs work fine. Soundcard drivers updated.

Also, I tried obtaining the original driver from Afreey and updated with drivers from the computer's manufacturer. This has only served to make a mess of the startup and autoexec.bat! Here's those:

A:Solved: DVDROM Drive Problems

I have now solved my own problem and thought I'd post the solution for anyone who has a similar problem and comes across the thread on a search.

From Start->Run->sysedit, I got rid of all the cdrom drivers after testing it was safe to remove them first by using the rem command. I then reinstalled generic device drivers which came with my system. The driver Afreey supplied didn't work but the readme file which came with it included advice on how to get DMA to work, namely by inserting /dma after the cd driver in config.sys. I then enabled DMA in Control Panel->System->Device Manager->CDROM->DVDROM 8x->Properties.

I can now rip and play CDs in Media Player et al.

Hope this ends up being helpful.

My OS is Windows XP Professional 2002. My PC is unbranded. Last month, I was watching a DVD when suddenly, the image froze. It just froze. Even after restarting several times, my DVD drive refused to recognize any disc I inserted: DVDs, audio CDs, mp3s CD... It couldn't even recognize the lens cleaner. I tried manually cleaning it but still didn't work. My old drive was Creative DVDROM DVD2240E. I bought a new drive which is a Toshiba DVD-ROM 16X SD-M1912. I plugged it into the CPU but I got a blue screen when I rebooted, saying that Windows has detected a problem that may have been caused by a faulty driver. I remembered that I hadn't installed any driver for this new drive so I downloaded the driver that came up when I searched for drivers for this model. cddrv224 was the driver file. At the end of the installation of the driver, I got a msg saying that it couldn't locate the MSCDEX.EXE file and that in order to use the CDROM, I had to copy that file into the C:\DOS\ directory. So i dowloaded the MSCDEX.EXE file and saved it in the C:\DOS\ directory and then restarted. But I still got the blue screen. And I can't get past it unless I disconnect the new drive and restart. I'm stumped at this point. Don't know how else to solve this problem anymore. I would appreciate any suggestions.

One more thing, please also let me know what I should do with the primary/secondary master/slave configurations. All of them are set to "Auto".

Do you have your XP disk?
Try deleting the drive, reboot.
Boot into the XP disk, run recovery console.
Copy the MSCDEX.EXE from the disk onto the hard drive.
Reboot and let Windows install the DVD drive.

Downloading the MSCDEX.EXE may have not helped you at all. MS tends to change alot of things in service packs and hot fixes, not to mention some one may have given you the wrong file all together.

Hi all, I joined the forum because I?ve been going around in circles trying to fix my computer. Apologies for huge first post. The post by "aristotletalks" about 3/4 down page 1 of this thread sums up most of the pages I've read and things I've attempted: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...3457b4a?page=1

I?m running:
Windows 8.1
Toshiba Satellite C55A-5300 (pre-installed Win 8 - no install DVD)
Intel Celeron 1.8 GHz
500 GB HDD

I?ll try to be succinct: I can?t boot my machine except with the Recovery USB I created from MS website, and when I do that I can?t get to System Restore points or Refresh because the ?hard disk where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock and try again.? I?ve spent about 12 hours the last couple days on all kinds of forums reading about this and think I?m just going in circles at this point. I?d really like to recover the data off the drive because my backup HD also just failed this week. I?ve tried:

EasyRE software (https://neosmart.net/EasyRE/) ? it says none of the drives are active or mountable

I ran chkdsk and it was estimating it?d take 60+ days to complete!? (I stopped it). C: was showing up fine.

I?ve run various diskpart commands and have been able to see the hard disk and that it?s ?Healthy?, so it looks like the drive is noticed, but it is not "active". When I tried selecting it and setting to "active" the message showed that "disk is not a fixed MBR disk".

Hi guys, i'm hoping someone can help.
I've recently bought a brand new Toshiba Satellite pro L650 running Windows 7
After a few weeks, things started to get really slow. Then I woke up one morning to discover it stuck on the first screen when I turn it on.
I thought I had a virus, so then decided to do a full re-format and re-install windows. After I formatted the correct partition, I went to install Windows 7 again
Only for it to say "windows could not detect a disc drive"
it asks me to install drivers for the hard-drive, which I can't seem to find.
it's a sata hard-drive (TOSHIBA MK6465GSX) I think is the model number.
I can not find the hard-drive drivers anywhere.

The other strange thing, is every now and then, it finds the hard-drive, but states that windows can not install onto that drive (even when I format it, try to add a partition and so forth)

I have been into bios, I don't really know a great deal of what I am looking at, but it sometimes states my hard-drive is there, and other times it does not.
I am so desperate to get this fixed. Does anyone have any ideas?
I live pretty remotely so taking it back and getting it fixed is not ideal.. but maybe necessary.
Thanks in anticipation..

- Gavin.

Hello All,

I built my new machine over the weekend:

Core Duo 2 E6600, MSI Neo 965 (775), 2x512Mb Geil PC6400 (DC), MSI rx1950xtx, LG DVD burner DL (at work or I'd put down model number). I can list more details when I get home from work

After installing windows, drivers etc...I noticed that everytime I accessed the DVD drive my system would slow down, mouse would jitter when moving and sound would stutter (bad digitising noise).

The system would never crash just become very slow until I ejected whatever was in the Drive....then everything would speed up again.

Iam getting this slowdown at no other time. Iam using the onboard sound card.

One thing that might be worth mentioning is that the 1950XTX is a big card and covers the IDE slot and in order for this IDE port to be used required some manipulation of the IDE Cable including some bending.

I was hoping someone had come across a similar problem before I open the case to change the IDE cable and/or cry

Daniel J

A:Accessing DVDROM drive causes system slowdown

Just a quick update:

Seems to be a problem with the JMicron Raid drivers. As I was not going to run a raid I did not choose to install these drivers. This was my mistake. The JMicron drivers are required to be installed because even if ur not going to run a RAID the IDE port is controlled by these drivers and is needed.

Problem No 2 was that I encountered is when you try to install the drivers after windows has been installed the installer package crashes. After a bit more searching I found that this may be because The JMicron drivers need to be installed BEFORE windows is installed (the ole F6 at the beginning windows installation).

Problem No 3 is that unless you can be bothered SlipStreaming the JMicron Drivers with ur windows install CD...you will require a floppy drive in order to install them....In my case this meant digging up a case with a working floppy disc drive....and more importantly a floppy disk

So unless I hear other wise tonight when I get home I will be doing a new windows install WITH the JMicron drivers installed b4 windows.

Okay, so let me first tell you that I am in a state of panic. I have very important data on my HDD and am unable to boot any OS on it now.

I initially had Vista and 7 on it, working, until I decided to uninstall 7 for XP. I deleted the partition 7 was on (C; my primary partition) and installed XP onto it. That went smoothly and all, but after booting it up I noticed it wouldn't let me specify which OS I wanted to start; it would just auto start XP. I went into the bootup settings in XP and changed the time operating systems are displayed from one second, to ten, yet it still just auto-booted XP. I was able to access the data on the other partition in the XP explorer, but seemingly wasn't able to boot from it. So I "backed up" all my data onto a third partition I had created as a failsafe in case something went wrong and I couldn't boot either of my OSes.

It then came to my attention that I had installed Windows XP Professional instead of home edition, so I made a bootable CD with the XP iso and restarted the computer for reinstallation. According to the program, the setup files copied over fine and all, but when it auto-restarted to continue the installation process it would just loop on and off at the BIOS screen. After trying 4 different versions of XP to no avail, I stuck my Vista Home Premium disk in and booted from it. Again, I got to the setup screen and all that jazz, but when prompted to select the location I wanted to install Windows in, I go... Read more

I should have came to this conclusion sooner, but my current re-installation of Windows has some problems that I haven't had the time to address until now. What I need, though, is access to the repair function on the disk. However, herein lies my problem...

When I boot up, media in the drive or no media, bios does not show the drive in its list. I can still open and close the drive as if nothing is wrong there, but I cannot "boot from CD". I've reset my bios back to defaults and while the drive appeared on IDE Channel 1 in the settings, it still would not recognize ANY media while booting up.

I have the latest version of my bios. I have also tried changing cables. The drive is on an IDE channel by itself.

Once my system boots into Windows, however, the drive is recognized and acts normally as if nothing happened in bios. Media operates fine. I have checked the event viewer, and there are no entries anywhere that states my optical drive has been experiencing problems, and yes, in fact it operates just like it always does.

Can anyone help me get my bios and cdrom back together again? The problem is I just do not know where to start to solve this. I wish I could say how long this has been happening, but I really don't know as of today. There have been no hardware changes in the past three months, and my current installation and configuration began back in late April.

Thanks for your time...

A:CD/DVDROM drive - not detected by bios, detected by Windows?

What is the boot sequence in the bios? should be CD or optical drive first, then Hard Drive or IDE-0 second if you want to boot from the cd-drive. Many computer manufacturers set the computer to automatically boot off of the hard drive by default so setting the factory defaults might not be what you are looking for. Look for the screen that has the boot order or sequence and just change it, exit and save settings and restart the computer with the boot cd in the drive. I hope that helps.

Tiling and Cascading etc from the taskbar also doesn't seem to effect the mixer. I also tried a little program I found called 'borderline' that brings all widows onto one screen which did not work either. At present only a reinstall works of Kristal.

Download and run Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel and look for any app that's starting with the system with which you aren't familiar. Uncheck it and reboot. Does the message still appear?

I recently wanted to reformat my acer aspire m1201 32 bit but accidentaly ended up doing a recovery. I used the 2 discs that the store where I purchased the pc gave me. When everything was done it ends up that I have vista home basic instead of premium. I have no idea how to get my premium back which was on my pc originally. Now I've also decided to try reformatting again but have no idea where to find the code for windows vista (the 25 digit code) I've checked every sticker on the pc and it's no where to be found. Any help would be appreciated tks.

I'm back here in the forum with another trouble.
Recently due to my corrupted hard disk, I replaced my hard disk.
Its a brand new hard disk with no windows installed. So when i put my disk, made the BIOS to boot from cd/DVD and it started showing me, wwindows loading files, then I proceeded to select my language and clicked install now. I did a custom installation.
So I made 2 partitions, one is 465gb and other is 100mb system reserved partition.
I clicked the 465gb part it on and clicked "ok", it started the installation.
First, windows copying files completed 100%
Then windows expanding files 0%, it ain't increasing from there, it is stuck at 0% and never goes up. After I kept some minutes it showed me that.
I got an error code too, here it:-
Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the application. Error code: 0x80070017.
Also I have 2 windows DVDs and both are kinda scratched, many scratches.
I don't know what to do, and also shows bootmgr missing if I don't boot from the windows cd

If you make a copy of the dvd, it should be fine.

It`s a shame we can no longer say, just download the iso file and make a new dvd.

Okay, I download the file, after that, I'm stuck. How do I install the Window Blind on my computer? Everytime I run WinAce, or WinZip with it, it just shows the images and TGA files. Any help here?

A:Help with Window Blinds installation?

Been using Windowblinds for several years and it comes in an file that when you click on it, it installs itself and the first thing it shows is a screen where you put in the serial number. I remember several years back I was having a problem installing it and it turned out I had another copy on my computer, so run a search and see if that might be the case, if not E-Mail them and explain in detail what the problem is, they have a good support group.

I'm trying to put windows 7 home premium on a pc that has Vista home premium. Bought windows 7 on dvd and during installation this error occurs - 0x80070017. Did research, decided best bet was to copy files onto usb to install. Here's the problem, during
copying I get an error that install.wim is unreadable. This also happens if I try to copy from disc to desktop also. There are more files that are unreadable. I tried to copy to usb using a different pc with windows 10 on it, and the pc is only about 3 years
old, it originally came with windows 8 and I recently did the 10 upgrade.
I'm not a computer geek, so I have no clue what is going on. Can there really be corrupt files on a brand new disc?

i m having problem in installing window xp, when i insert window xp cd and reboot computer, it tell me to press any key to start installation, but i am having USB keyboar it stop work unless it start windows

A:window xp problem in installation

Id take a guess that you are using an old version of XP with only SP1 included or no Service Packs at all. That will only have minimal support for USB devices. You could try a USB/PS2 adapter for the keyboard or slipstream the XP disc with SP3 which will also save a lot of time downloading all the updates after the installation.
