I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey guys, I just had a Dell Inspiron 15 5559 delivered to me yesterday and I noticed there wasn't a backlit keyboard installed. At first, I thought it was just off, but after looking around this site and doing some research to first make sure I wasn't just not able to turn it on, I've arrived to this conclusion.
I've tried doing Fn + F10. I've tried Ctrl + F10. I've tried going to Mobility Center and changing multimedia/function key.I also have all my drivers updated and made completely sure everything was updated in case it was just a software issue. I also updated BIOS and went there and checked if I could change keyboard settings there; no luck.
The thing is, my laptop is the touch model and to the extent of my knowledge, all touch models are equipped with a backlit keyboard. So what's going on...? Do I have to pay out another $50 for a backlit keyboard?
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hey!I ordered Dell Inspiron 5567 laptop from my local retailer and it did not have backlit keyboard. I have seen the same model with backlit keyboard in Dell's official page. So I was wondering that if I order new backlit keyboard from ebay is it possible to replace it. The main question is does every model of inspiron 5567 has a backlit keyboard connector. If it is possible, is there a manual how to do it?
Thanks in advance!

A:Replacing Dell Inspiron 5567 non-backlit keyboard with backlitted on

The connector will be there.  That said, this model is one of the growing number where replacing just the keyboard is far from a trivial exercise -- the keyboard, touchpad and palmrest are essentially a single, partially glued together assembly designed to be replaced as a single unit.
The service manual details the replacement process for the palmrest assembly -- but not just the keyboard, which isn't designed to be replaced separately.

Hello all, I've recently purchased this laptop (Just out of best buy direct return policy) and It has remained docked at my desk since.

I used the keyboard briefly during setup, but otherwise have been using my mechanical - well the other day I decided to use it and the backspace key popped up. Saw that the clips on the key itself were broken on one side.

I don't want to have to wait without my computer in hopes that this may be covered by warranty repair if I send it in, but I cannot find this keyboard anywhere but Ebay.

I would purchase it from ebay but the only sellers are located in hong kong and it would take quite a while and not be an assured fit.

Any ideas? Part number, etc? Basically I would just buy a new keyboard and take the backspace key off of it.

I saw that theres a website for laptop replacement keys, but this particular model isn't listed. Is this keyboard shared with other models, just with either no backlight or with white text instead of red? I would accept a different kind of key if its the right size.

Thanks, sorry for the wall of text. Just wanting to get my keyboard back to new :-(

I just got a T470. Excellent computer! I got the Core i7-7600U model with 4gb of memory and a 500gb non-SSD hard disk (T470 20HDCTO1WW, ordered directly from Lenovo). The 2TB SSD and 32GB RAM I got from Crucial work without problem (yes, I ran a memory tester) ? although, yes, it?s a moderate pain to take off the back panel (even if you have a special plastic tool for doing so). It?s a really great laptop; I like how clear and bright the display is as well as how fast it runs. That said, on to my question: I got the model with the non-backlit keyboard. Is is possible to upgrade this model to have a backlit keyboard? Here is the information I have gotten from my research: * The dealers selling T470 backlit keyboards warn that it may not be possible to get the backlight to work if the motherboard does not support it (for example, https://www.amazon.com/ThinkPad-01AX569-SN20L72890-Backlit-Keyboard/dp/B0727S1H14/ where they claim ?Please check whether your laptop can support backlit keyboard or not before placing the order, if can not, the backlit function of our keyboard will not work!? or https://www.amazon.com/CHNASAWE-Replacement-Backlit-Keyboard-Thinkpad/dp/B071KWWW21/ with a similar ?If your original/old keyboard does not have the backlit, this keyboard backlit will not work.? warning) * There is nothing in Lenovo?s T470 service manual at https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/pubs/t470/html_en/index_en.html#Replacing_t... A:Can I replace my non backlit keyboard with a backlit keyboar...

OK here is the Service Manual: Manual The keyboards are not sold by HP as a separate part: only sold with the whole top cover. See p. 20 The Manual does not list any keyboard/top cover as having a backlight. However, the keyboard map on p. 15 shows the f5 action key as activating a backlight on "select models".  From this I gather that there is a place on the motherboard to connect a backlight cable if the keyboard has one. However, extracting the old keyboard from the top cover and replacing it with just the replacement keyboard is not easy and there are no directions in the Manual for that procedure. I would want to see one of these alleged backlit keyboards. Bottom line, it is possible, but I would be leery. Do you have an f5 action key with the backlight symbol on it? Have you tried it to see if maybe your keyboard is backlit? If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Also, I've been reading that people have problems setting the time for M6800 backlit kb (as there is no app for it) and they were using older version of Dell Enhancement Pack intended for M6700. If a replacement for my situation is technically possible, I would also appreciate a solution for controlling/configuring the light on the keyboard.

First a gripe - the option for a UK backlit keyboard at build time is buried deep, not adjacent to the UK non-backlit version.  I thought they were all backlit.  So for the sake of 20 I got a dull one.  Come on Lenovo - show us that you have two choices at the menu level, not deep down in the list. Second a disclaimer - this worked for me, but others (including a Lenovo tech who came to replace my dead (new) batteries) advise that your motherboard may not support backlighting.  Perhaps I was lucky, but it does work in some cases and you can even use the T460s backlit keyboard (with caveats). The process of looking for the right part number is tortuous, so I wanted to share what was several hours of work so save you the hassle. There are two UK version backlit keyboards for the T470s - there are interchangeable.  They are part numbers 01EN752 and 01EN711.  Either will work.  Both are Lenovo original per se, but 752 is made by Darfon and 711 by Chicony.  Copies are available on e-Bay and other such places, but as Lenovo Thinkpads are renowed for their keyboards, do you really want to save 20-30 on a non-original?  I cannot comment on the Darfon vs Chicony debate. They are easy enough to fit - you should disable the internal battery in the boot up menu before you take the old one off.  After fitting you have to be connected to a power supply for this to auto-reenable.  Finding this may be the h... Hello all!
Thanks in advance for the help, as I have done my research but I can't seem to solve my problem.
So, I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 Series (actual model is I3558-0954BLK). The model did not come with a backlit keyboard. Should have checked ahead :)
I found that apparently the 3558 model supports backlit keyboards, therefore I purchased a compatible keyboard that should fit models 3551 and 3558.
When I followed the proper procedures to detach the original keyboard from my laptop, I could not find a slot for the "extra" connector that the backlit keyboard carries. After scratching my head for a while and doing some research online, I resolved to ask for your assistance. Here's a picture of what my laptop looks like without a keyboard. Could anyone be so kind as to point out where do I plug the other connector or help me understand why the laptop doesn't carry one? :)
PS: In the picture, the green arrows I added show the standard keyboard connector & slot. The red arrow I added shows the extra backlit keyboard connector.

I have purchased a Dell Inspiron 5567 and wish to upgrade the keyboard to a Backlit one. The keyboard I have bought is compatible with the laptop, and the laptop also has the connector on the Mainboard for the backlight flex cable. The problem is that the present keyboard does not seem to come off. It is under the Palmrest and secured from the back with a sheet metal which is moulded into the body of the laptop. I have contacted some people and they said that in order for the keyboard to come out I would have to break these seals/moulds. Is this recommended or should I just stick to the normal non-backlit keyboard the laptop came with? I am also concerned about voiding the warranty if I do this modification. Thanks in advance,Alex.

I have a new Dell XPS 13 Linux edition (this one) and immediately installed Linux Mint 18 on it, wiping the Ubuntu 14.04 which was shipped with the it.
I am really confident with it, only the backlight for the keyboard is not working. I have a keyboard light symbol on my F10 key but when I press it, nothing happens. All other features and all other media controls/media keys/screen brightness keys work. When clicking the battery icon in the Linux Mint taskbar, I see 2 controls, one for the keyboard lights brightness and one for the screen brightness. When I drag those bars, only the screen brightness is working again.
I also see the settings in /sys/class/leds/dell\:\:kbd_backlight/ (I think that's the config folder for it). The brightness file in this directory contains "1", so as I understand this correctly, this should theoretically work.
As I noted before I immediately installed Linux Mint on it, so I can't say whether it worked before. And this is really the only thing which is not working on the laptop.
I have obviously checked that my ultrabook has backlights with the product number on its back.
Do you have some tips so I can get this to work? Thanks in advance!

Hello Everyone!I bought an open box Dell Latitude E5470 today at a very cheap price. Unfortunately this laptop had a non backlit keyboard and a TN (1600 x 900) panel but it had the much needed 6300HQ, so I went ahead and bought it thinking that I can always buy a backlit keyboard later from aliexpress. I looked at aliexpress again today and noticed something I had overlooked before purchasing the laptop and that is that all backlit keyboards available for E5470 have a different shape thanks to the two stupid top mouse buttons that are not present in my variant of E5470. I now have to find a new top panel with frame that has the cutout for those two extra mouse buttons. This is a nasty situation for me as I am not even sure if the required top panel will be compatible with my variant of E5470. Any advise on what I should do?

Hi Everyone,
I recently just purchased a Dell Inspiron Gaming 7567 and I mistakenly purchased it without a back lit keyboard. Returning the laptop is currently not an option. I was wondering, is it possible for me to replace the none back-lit keyboard with the back lit equivalent for the device and for it to be full functional (i.e. a fully working keyboard + toggle-able back lit keys), or will replacing the part just yield me another keyboard without a back lighting. Minor inconvenience, however I would be extremely happy if I could change that on my laptop. I hoping someone has the answer.

I recently purchase a Dell Laptop 15 3558, awesome deal touchscreen and many additions. Only thing it didnt have was a backlit keyboard, so I went and purchased a (refundable) non-Dell backlit keyboard on Amazon.
I know a backlit keyboard has 2 connections, one for data and one for the light. When I opened up my laptop the light connector had something plugged in (not sure what). I went ahead and disconnected it and plugged in my new non-dell backlit keyboard...here is what happened.
1- Key board lit up and worked.
2- Back lIght never shuts off, even when you shut down its always lit. (The Windows Mobility Center doesnt even have a keyboard light feature.)
3- Laptop will not restart unless I unplug and replug the laptop in again.
Any ideas whats going on ?
Lastly, Does Dell make a backlit keyboard that would be compatible?

A:Purchased Non-Dell Backlit Keyboard - having issues

This system model is not designed to support a backlit keyboard and hence there are no backlit on /off toggle function keys as seen on other models - see the specifications here - http://dell.to/2gryrMy
Does the backlit stay on when the system is powered off and the power adapter disconnected?
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/2h6A06p - restart the system and check.
If the issue is not resolved, then I would suspect an issue with the keyboard installed.
In that case you would need to reinstall the original Dell OEM keyboard on the machine.

When you start the notebook and before Windows loads does the keyboard light up?  You can also check in safemode, start the system while tapping F8 and choose safemode.  Log on to Windows, at any time in this process is the backlit on?  If not then there is likely a problem.
If you aren't able to get the backlit on anymore no matter what you try please shoot me a private message.  On the Private message please include your name, address, phone number and the service tag of the notebook.  I will be happy to research possible service options.  If I can't help personally, I can certainly get you in contact with someone that can.

On my laptop above, I have just installed a new backlit keyboard to replace the old (non-backlit) keyboard.
The good news is that the backlighting works perfectly.
Once the laptop has been placed on the docking station, one can still type with the new keyboard. However with it on the docking station the backlighting is not working at all. Please does anyone have similar issue with solution or can anyone provide some advice or solution. I would like to be able to use it on the docking station with backlighting operational
With thanks,
