I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

It all started 3 days ago.

I am using a Lenovo Thinkpad R61i 8932-GCU with Windows Vista 32bits Business Edition (SP2).

Suddenly, the USB ports stopped working

I checked the Device Manager but everything was fine with the USBs. However, the Teredo Tunnelling PseudoInterface had this little yellow triangles. (Status: This device cannot start - code 10). When I tried to disable it, to see if there was any conflict, the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) became unresponsive.

That same night, Windows Update also became unresponsive while installing an update for the Ricoh SD card reader. When I tried to disable the SD card reader, the MMC crashed again. I tried to uninstall the USB drivers from the Device Manager...MMC crashed again.

I have tried another Windows Update, but it also became unresponsive while trying to create a Restore Point.
After reading this thread, showing how to isolate the problem using msconfig, I made a clean boot by disabling all non-Microsoft services. The USB worked but the MMC became unresponsive again when I tried to disable the card reader. The provided link doesn't show what to do when the problem is with some Microsoft service
I would really appreciate some help on those issues

Thanks in advance

Philippe

.PS:
1) The system came pre-loaded with Vista, so I don't have any CD
2) I have tried to use system restore, but it also failed

Thinking about upgrading the CPU on my ThinkPad R61i. It's the R61i 7650-D6G (15.4", without IEEE) dated 08/02. Currently has a T5450 @ 1.66Ghz and GM965/GL960 chipset. As the T5450 has an FSB of 667MHz, and it's 65nm litho - do I have to stick with Merom chips (and not go for Penryn)? (The GM965 should support an 800MHz FSB - but not sure if the board itself would). Am I limited to the T5xxx series (i.e. 2MB Cache), or could I go for a T7xxx? (even those were made after the laptop date?). Also - is the the unofficial BIOS (I forget what it's called now - Middleton?) upgrade(?) a good thing to do? Help, and more importantly experience, very much appreicated - thanks guys!

A:Thinkpad R61i CPU Upgrade

Welcome to the forum!

Middleton's BIOS is a must on any *61 system in my opinion.

As for the CPU, you could definitely go for a Merom CPU (T7300/7500/7700/7800). Depending on the board revision, you might or might not be able to utilize a Penryn CPU (T8100/8300/9300/9500).

The biggest upgrade will be a decent SSD and 4GB of RAM, though, even if you choose to go with one of the less-powerful but dirt-cheap CPUs such as T7300/7500.

Happy upgrading.

Hi, I upgraded my R61i 8932 thinkpad to windows 7 ultimate and now my CDRW/DVDRW drive is not able to read any CD's or DVD though there are no issues when I check status in device manager.  That was working with Windows XP SP2 earlier. What ever CD/DVD I put in the drive just spins for a long time and then is not able to read. While debugging I found that the DVD drive was able to read all the CDs and DVD's when I boot laptop in "Safe Mode with Networking"  I think that I need to update my driver. Tried searching in net , but couldn't find. Current installed DVD driver version : 6.1.7601.17514. Attached is the screen shot of the driver screen

A:Lenovo ThinkPad R61i UPGRADE

Welcome to the forum!

There's no hard drive size limit on your machine - so if you want to put in 500GB, go ahead. The same holds true for the drive speed - your choice.

Any 9.5 mm laptop SATA drive - including SATA II - will work fine, but you'd need a modded BIOS to utilize the SATA II speeds on your machine.

T9600 will not work. T7700 should.

Your machine can handle 4GB of RAM for sure. And yes, if both slots are populated, it works in dual channel mode.

You could upgrade the screen to SXGA+ (1400x1050) or UXGA (1600x1200) that were used on T60/p generation.

Enjoy the upgrade process.

I have just bought this laptop a week before.  I've had this message saying "display driver stopped responding and has recovered" and the screen started working abnormal. I have been looking for and tried many solutions (from Lenovo Forum, Microsoft Support Site, Youtube) as listed below: 1. uninstall and update the drive from Intel. 2. Uninstall and update the drive from Lenovo Support Site3. Set TdrDelay to value 8 / 10  However, all methods failed.  Plus, a message " Application has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware" sometimes, and my application froze for 11-2 seconds.  Could you please suggest a method to solve this critical issue?  My  GPU is Intel HD Graphics 520, and current driver version is 20.19.15.4404

I've been having a strange problem with the battery for my Thinkpad laptop. I noticed the other day that it wasn't charging when I plugged the AC adapter in. Eventually it ran out completely and would not charge at all. This happened very suddenly...it was working fine a week ago. If I have the battery installed and AC attached and hit the power button, the system will start up for a few seconds and then shut down. Sometimes it will randomly start AGAIN for another few seconds and then shut down. The only way I can get the computer to run is with the battery removed and AC adapter attached. If I start the computer up with the AC adapter attached and then insert the battery the computer immediately powers down.

I really want to get this problem resolved. I'm hoping that it's just the battery itself, but it seems strange that it would stop working so suddenly. From my experience, laptop batteries tend to lose their power over time. And even if the battery was no good, shouldn't the computer still work as long as the AC line is connected? I have no problem replacing the battery, I'm just not certain that this is the real issue. It seems that the AC adapter works fine.

Is this likely just a battery problem, or is it possible that the motherboard is damaged?

A:Thinkpad Battery Suddenly Stopped Working

Hi Dan and welcome to TSG.

I assume your Thinkpad's warranty has run out.

It could be a problem with the motherboard power circuitry but that would be expensive to fix.

As the charger looks ok the easiest and cheapest thing to do is to try a new battery.

Sorry I can't be more specific.

Hi, I just bought a ThinkPad Yoga 460 and I have a strange problem. The internal keyboard does not work any more across operating systems, so this isn't software specific. However, the keyboard *does* work in the beginning a cold start until the operating system boots - I can enter the BIOS settings, navigate around there, I can enter the onboard diagnostics utility, everything works fine - until an operating system boots. If I just reboot without turning the computer off, the internal keyboard doesn't work. I even restored factory settings, so I am writing this from an Ubuntu Live USB with an external keyboard until I have figured out how to restore EFI, but the keyboard still isn't working. The problem occured after a long time of using only the external keyboard, so I can't exactly tell what I was doing when it happened. I'm guessing it has to do with the rotation sensor being stuck, but what would be the point of disabling the keyboard if it's physically impossible to press any buttons in tablet mode... Also, the touch pad keeps working anyway. I removed Windows from the laptop and I don't think there'd be an easy way to get it back, so I hope any solutions would work on Linux too. Best regards,Malte

I updated my Helix to Windows 10 shortly after it was released, and the pen worked great for several months. Then it just quit one day. I have tried everything I can find across the forums to fix it. I've tried updating to the Windows 10 wintab driver, I've tried rolling back to the Windows 8.1 wintab driver. I checked to make sure the firmware was up to date. Nothing is working, and if I try to install the wacom isd driver I get the error a supported tablet was not found on the system. If I go into device manager I can see a driver with a yellow exclamation point pop up under universal serial bus controllers when the pen is removed from its silo. Does anyone have any other suggestions I could try? Or is this most likely a hardware problem?

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Hello.Maybe someone can help me. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga with Win 10 running and in the past weeks it all worked fine. I used the Touchscreen and Tablet mode a bit and also used the pen occasionally. Since my flight back from Spain last weekend, the touchscreen stopped working. I do not see an error message in the device manager, but am also not able to identify which device the toughscreen should be - I see no "wacom" device listed there. Wind 10 Hardware problem solver did not find anything. I also let the automated Lenovo driver updater run and it did some updates, but none regarding the touchscreen and it did not change anything. Now I first need to find out if it is a hardware or a software error - how can I do that?

Today my digitizer stopped working for the first time since I purchased my Thinkpad Yoga several years ago. Touch screen still works as normal. I don't think it's software related because I dual boot Windows and Ubuntu and it doesn't work in either operating system. Before it would work in both operating systems, and I haven't had any updates since it was last working. Is it possible for the digitizer itself to be broken somehow? I haven't dropped the device or spilled any liquid on it. I've read elsewhere on the forum that the digitizer is powered by a capacitor that is charged within the laptop. Is this still true for Thinkpad Yogas? Are there steps I can take to diagnose the issue?

A:ThinkPad hangs on boot - stuck at Thinkpad screen

You might have damaged the power circuitry on the motherboard.  If that is the case, the only solution is to replace the board.  There is an array of power transistors that handles the switching back and forth between AC and battery.

I have had this notebook for a few years and it has performed well. Today however I brought it out of hibernation mode, and it beeped. The keyboard and touchpad were not working. I restarted the computer and it beeped as it was loading, giving a message that said "Keyboard not detected." Once windows booted up, same problem. I shut down and restarted, same problem. I then unplugged everything, took the battery out, put it back together, and now it works fine. I'm a little concerned about this. Is this an indication of a possible hardware failure, or could something else more innocuous be causing it? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.

As I understand that you are facing issue with your display in T450s.
Looks like you have a bad LCD panel & it needs to be changed so better contact Lenovo & replace under warranty.
Also you can try moving the LCD lid at certain angle whether display is coming or not.

Got new X1 Yoga 2nd Gen OLED, having problems with the display settings.  The screen colors are incredibly rich and the colors are borderline neon and strain the eyes after more than 15 minutes of use.  I finally found a way to reduce the neon glow by going to the Intel Graphic Settings and adjusting the color gamut option slider from vibrant to one step down toward natural colors.  The problem, is that after a the computer is put to sleep or restarted, it goes back to the neon colors.  Is there a way to get these settings to stay without having to change it every time I open up the computer?  The display is amazing for viewing movies with super vibrant sharp colors, but when it's in vibrant factory settings its very bad.  The colors on webpages and onscreen keep increasing and decreasing in brightness randomly.

Dear community,

maybe you can help. I just made aquisition of a thinkpad yoga S1 (DXdiag here attached) DxDiag TP-Yoga S1.txt

I am very happy with it, except when I want to use an external display with the mini-HDMI-VGA dongle delivered by Lenovo:

The extended desktop on this external display is quite bad quality. This is happening on different external monitors which are very good when attached to my other computer.

What problem can it be? Graphic card? Dongle? driver?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Elwood

A:Bad display quality on externel screen / Thinkpad Yoga S1

I'd say the dongle is where you want to start. Have Lenovo send you a new one. You've already demonstrated that it's not the monitor, so that leaves items supplied by Lenovo and you'll have a significantly easier time getting them to agree to send you a dongle that probably costs them very little to produce compared to anything else. Plus it's easier for you to test and the most likely scenario to fix your issue. If there were something wrong with the GPU on the unit, you'd expect it to affect the internal display as well as external and do so equally/uniformly. The driver idea is possible, but highly unlikely, but if there's an updated driver and you want to install it while waiting for a new dongle to show up, knock yourself out.

I collected data on the various versions of the OSD utility; see below (I have used the overall package version as a reference, although the OSD program itself has a different version). Here is the fix: 1) Install the latest Hotkey Features Integration package. This gets the latest other packages, plus a broken version of OSD.2) Manually uninstall the OSD program (in Control Panel:Uninstall); reboot.3) Download and install the Hotkey Features Integration package version 3.85.0000. This is last version which works fully with the W700. Run the package installer, the run the installer itself. Make sure that only the OSD component is selected; run setup; reboot. That should fix it. It appears that the bug also exists in Win XP. Here is the info I have on the various versions: 3.33.0002 - OSD Works with W7003.81.0100 - OSD Works with W7003.84.2000 - OSD Works with W7003.85.0000 - OSD Works with W700 <&l... Got my first thinkpad x1 laptop 2016 Type FB20 and unfortunately touchscreen is not working. It does not show touch device detail under Device Manager > HID. I tried to find touch screen driver in lenovo support portal but not able to find any such driver. Please let me know if any of you faced similar issue.

As the X1 Carbon 4th Gen isn't available with a touchscreen, that's no real surprise. If you want a very similar device that has a touchscreen, have a look at the X1 Yoga.

Hello
I have recently purchased a lenovo thinkpad x230 tablet from ebay. The seller specified that the laptop supports both touch and pen input. But only the pen works, the touch screen doesn't work.
After searching online quit a bit, I discovered that some models of x230t are only pen input (no touch).
But I don't know if that is the case with my laptop or is it some hardware or software problem, and I wasn't able to find any online documentation about the models that support touch.
My model number is: 3438-2S1, and my serial number is: XX-XXXXX.
Also attached is a photo of my laptop screen, if it helps in anyway.
Can anyone please help me?

Hi,I suddenly noticed that my touch screen is not working. I have tried to update driver for HID-compliant touch screen (however best driver was alread used). Also tried to disable/enable the device but still no function. I checked the "Events" for the driver and the last event was "Device not migrated" with the following message:"Device HID\VID_056A&PID_504A&Col06\6&2fac5222&0&0005 could not be migrated.Last Device Instance Id: {DEA5AE2A-D1FD-438A-A091-CBD484788436}\Vid_0000&Pid_0000\5&18534b98&0&02Class Guid: {745A17A0-74D3-11D0-B6FE-00A0C90F57DA}Location Path: Migration Rank: 0xF000FFFFFFFFF122Present: trueStatus: 0xC0000719" The pen driver seem to work though. I noticed that outside the visible area on the screen there is a small crack in the glass. Can that cause the touch screen to not function? Regards, Torsten

I purchased this computer in February and I've already had to take it in to get serviced because it stopped turning on. Now the pen and touchscreen have stopped working. Is there something I can do to fix it or would I need to take it in again?

Been going back and forth and can't seem to find a screen that can replace my Thinkpad x1 carbon 3460 1f4 screen. Have found one for the 3448. Don't know if they use the same screen and pins?  See photo for description of the replacement screen I'm looking at.

I am installing updates on a T400 system running WIndows 7 Pro 64-bit. The system has been freshly factory restored and all features work properly... After running System Restore to update to the latest drivers and recommended software, I find Thinkpad Hotkey Features Integration 3.89.0000 breaks features. I am able to use Hotkeys to change brightness up/down, Fn+F5, Fn+F6, etc. The volume up and down keys work to change volume. The mute button does not work at all! There is no On Screen Display to show the adjustment settings for any Hotkeys. I have found that installing the older 3.88.0000 (8jvu40ww.exe) version of ThinkPad Hotkey Features Integration works successfully with mute button functionality as well as the On Screen Display features. Comparing what is different between the 3.89.0000 and 3.88.0000 versions, I find On Screen Display version and Full Screen Magnifier have advanced. The version information table at the bottom of the software download page is inconsistent compared to what is actually reported from the 3.88.0000 setup.exe: Setup shows:On Screen Display 6.71.00Full Screen Magnifier 2.40 The table shows:On Screen Display 6.72.00Full Screen Magnifier 2.41 The System Interface Driver is 1.05 on all the recent versions. With the 3.89.0000 version installed, I cannot uninstall and go back to the older version to get it working. Instead, ... Read more

A:ThinkPad Hotkey Features Integration 3.89.0000 On Screen Display and Mute Button Fail

I have three T410 laptops. Two of them have intel graphics and one has an nvidia graphics chip. I have the exact same problem as RChesley with the two that have the Intel graphics. The latest Hotkey Features Integration driver 3.89 from system update has disabled my on screen display. Removing it with windows system restore brought it back. Uninstalling it and installing an earlier version would not work. My T410 with the Nividia graphics chip does not have this problem. It has the 3.89 Hotkey Driver installed and the on screen display works fine. My two T410s with the Intel graphics do have the latest Intel graphics drivers offered by Lenovo System Update. Lenovo System Update indicates that the 3.89 driver is required in order to install the latest power manager driver which enables the CPU turbo boost. I would like to have turbo boost working. I just figured out how to correct the corruption of the Lenovo Toolbox from an incorrect driver that was pushed by Lenovo System Update, now I have this to deal with. I would appreciate it if Lenovo would look into this and report back on this thread.
