Problems generating a report with System diagnostics

Q: Problems generating a report with System diagnostics

Every time I run System Diagnostics it collects the data for 60 seconds and then I am asked do I want to open or save this file:

report.html.

If I save or open it I am greeted with a blank webpage saying navigation cancelled and the System diagnostic screen still says generating report

Any thoughts on why this is happening?

Preferred Solution: Problems generating a report with System diagnostics

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Check in event viewer by typing eventvwr in search. Look in windows logs, application tab.

You are looking for critical errors (they have red in the left column) that have app hang, app crash, or anything relating to the problem.

When you find them pplease note the event ID and source code and tell us what they are.

Let us know if you need help with any of these

Hi, After upgrading from vista to windows 7 i tried to generate a system health report. now , i never had problems with this before, i ran the windows scannow in cmd and all is fine , i checked the performance and logs service and that was started and manual , the reports are being registered in the perflogs folder but the tool used to generate the report in HTML seems to time out and is incapable of generating a report like in vista before the upgrade. By the way i'm running 64 bit home premium windows 7 , asus P5Q motherboard and an ATI Radeon 4850 graphic card, Thanks for any help in solving this y:

Well People, Just to give you some feedback, It seems that the in-place upgrade feature offered to migrate from vista to windows 7 has some flaws. This feature imports files which are somehow corrupted or modified ,which can result in a number of small "glitches".For myself i resolved this issue by doing a clean install and this was the fix.apparently some people do not think that the in-place upgrade should be available ,for this has created a number of small but annoying problems.Best RegardsGreg

Did you do an in-place Upgrade? Are there other performance problems?

You can try a Repair Install, but the cure for these kinds of failures of in-place Upgrading is a Clean Install.

I have a HP 630 notebook with win7 Ultimate 64 bit. When I tried to generate a system health report I am getting a time out error. So I went through many threads here about this problem but could not find a solution. Finally I made a clean Install and ran the perfmon.exe and found that I could generate the report. But when I installed the recommended driver Atheros Bluetooth driver(64) from HP's site, the report generation failed and gives time out error. My dilemma is that if I uninstall the bluetooth driver I can run system health report but bluetooth will not work. What am I to do to get both?

A:Perfmon.exe /report not generating after installing bluetooth driver

Here's something from the helpfiles

You can also create a new report for a data collector set by typing perfmon /report "Data_Collector_Set_name" at a command prompt. Typing perfmon /report without any other parameters will generate the System Diagnostics report.

Hello,

I am having serious corruption problems with my hard drive. I have reinstalled windows a few times now, but it always ends up being unable to boot. At the moment, my computer cannot even boot up in normal or safe mode, all my restore points have been deleted, and startup repair cannot do anything.

After backing up my data and running a test with the Seagate SeaTools diagnostics in DOS, it was reported that there were bad sectors found on my Hard Disk. But I actually can't use this software to repair the bad sectors tough since it's a Western Digital drive. Is there any software that I could download to repair these bad sectors, or am I going to have to replace the whole drive? Thanks.

If you have used SeaTools, and the drive cannot be repaired by it, you will need to purchase a new drive. If you need to get data from this drive, it is POSSIBLE to use Knoppix (free) to view data and copy it.

Not sure what it could be so I ran the diagnostics and I'm providing the results below.

Hi all,

First of all, before I get yelled at, I've looked around online and on the forums for similar problems, and I've also run the Hitachi Diagnostic Tool on both my hard drives.

Here's the problem:
Once in a while on certain programs - not necessarily the i/o intensive ones - my computer will just freeze for about 2-3 seconds with the hard drive light lighting up solidly. I will not be able to do anything at all but I'll still see the same screen that was up on the computer before the freeze. AFTER the 2-3 seconds, I THEN hear a click as if from my hard drive, and things resume to normal.

What I've Done
I've run scan disk on both hard drives, both hard drives passed
I made a maxtor diagnostic boot cd and tried it but the program failed to launch, even though on another computer the cd worked just fine
I then made a hitachi diagnostic boot cd and tried it w/ both the quick and advanced tests on both hard drives, and they both passed. I am told that even though one of my hard drives is hitachi and the other is maxtor that the hitachi one should work with most brands.

My specs
1 320GB Hitachi HDT725032VLA360 V540A7EA (master, sata, channel 3)
1 200GB Maxtor (slave, ata)
Intel core 2 quad 6600
2 GB 800MHz DDR2 RAM
Nvidia 8800 GT
OS: Vista
Additional Notes: My hitachi is split into a partition for vista, and one for linux

I don't know what to do now. Can anyone advise?

A:Hard drive stalls with click sound but diagnostics report ok

Because Diagnotic programs don't have human ears.

As long as the drive performs within spec - the software won't give you a guage on its actual health. Usually, when the software notes that the drive is dead - is when its telling you the obvious. Like when its clicking every 2-3 seconds and other interesting sounds. Hmmm.. thats not good.

About 3 months ago i started noticing that when ever i open certain sections of control panel and some start menu items that they try to start up and then close immediately with no error report at all. They just seem to go away. It seems to be the programs that usually end up opening into a modified explorer window:
(i.e. Control Panel: "Backup and restore, Default Programs, Ease of Access Center, Fonts, Network and Sharing Center, Parental Controls, Performance Information and Tools, Personalization, Power Options, System, User Accounts, Windows Slideshow, and windows update)

So i did some much needed computer maintenance hoping that that would fix the problem.

Ran AVG virus scan slow search full system. Found a few problems and corrected them. The problem persists.

Ran a hijack this and compared online and fixed a few minor issues. The problem persists.

Started a Process Explorer (from sysinternals) and found that when i try to launch these specific programs dwm.exe is the last thing to be working before it crashes.

I told it to put the process into debug mode but im not to familiar with the program to get some definitive results.

Also tried opening the before mentioned items in safe mode and it still does the same thing.

If anyone can help i would be very great full.

Hi rjordan393 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Either that the LSC is not ok or it has encountered issue during the test that was not able to verify.
Try to uninstall it from programs and features under control panel and download a fresh updated copy from the support site and see if that would work.

Likewise for differential comparison you can also use similar test software such as this and this .

Hello,   I have an Envy 15t laptop, and the original battery seems to not be functioning properly (the initial charge is quite low and the laptop does not last a long time).  I bought a new battery to remedy this issue, and I was hoping to do a calibration test.  While doing this, I ran into a strange problem.   For some reason, when I try to access the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (by pressing ESC on bootup, followed by F2), it looks different now than it did before (I don't think it's because of the new battery before though, since I still had the old menu even with the new battery at some point).  The old menu used to be more of a GUI style, something like Figure 9 in the following link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467259 Now though, under HP PC Hardware Diagnostics, it doesn't look like a GUI (it's more text based), and I only have the following options: Memory Test, Hard Drive Check, Language, Exit.  I no longer see a "Components" option, and I certainly cannot access the Battery option from within Components (since the Components option is missing).  Any ideas about why this is the case?  Thank you.

Is there a diagnostic program that can tell me what is going on inside my notebook? Also is anyone aware if win10 update can be turned off. I have totally had it well and truly that every update totally trashes the machine each and every time the download installs. I am sick of losing my 3rd party software and my data. This laptop will go into orbit on the end of my boot if it doesn't stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought this because MSI like to play funny buggers with that machine. It has now gone back for 3 warranty repairs and now is back there again as they damaged it last time they had it and who knows when I'll see that machine again!

I was wondering if I should be concerned over those failed tests. I would like to know as the end results report state that my computer is 100% functional, even though it doesn't display the one storage 'device' with the two failed tests. Any help/suggestion/advice on the case would be appreciated!

My hard drive failed and I've taken it out to prevent further damage to the data. I want to keep using my computer with a Linux live USB while I wait for a new drive. When I turn on the laptop, I can press escape to bring up the startup menu and F9 is listed as boot device options and F10 is listed as BIOS. If I choose any option, no matter which one, the computer opens System Diagnostics. If i press F9 or F10 during boot, I see the text pop up acknowledging the action, but still get System Diagnostics. I bought this computer new from Amazon, it has never been configured by any kind of IT department, it is simply locking me out of the BIOS and boot order for unknown reasons. I do not have anything the computer came with, so I'd need a link to an ISO if your suggestion involves a disk. Ideally, there is some inane secret combination of button pushing and holding that will either allow me to change the boot order or boot directly from USB. Thanks in advance for your help.

I need to change the boot order of my laptop which is running Windows 7. It is an HP/compaq laptop. I have tried pressing F2, F4 and F8 on startup. The only thing I got to was the "HP Advanced System Diagnostics".

How can I change to boot order to boot from CD? Also, can I change the boot order to boot from a USB drive?

Thanks!!!!!!!

It would help if you were to post the model of this Compaq.

Try F10.

The Reliability and Performance Monitor found in Vista keeps a heap of data sets for response times, processes, configuration data, diagnostics, debug logs, registry keys and performance counters. This tool will help you diagnose windows errors, slow performance or anything else you would like it to help you track down.

1. Open the Start-Menu and search for Performance Monitor.
2. In the performance monitor there is a folder called "Data Collector Sets" found in the left open it and click "System"
3. Here you will find some default diagnostic tools to run on your vista machine, just right-click the name and click start, scroll down to the Reports folder to view your results.

You can also add your own customised monitors under the Data Collector sets folder for a more complete view of the systems performance handling, Just remember too many sets might slow your system down and vista allready runs a Reliability Monitor every hour.

This tool will point anyone in the right direction to solve issues they are having with vista or the hardware, Include the report in a support request and it can help diagnose the problem very quickly. Its proberly the most usefull feature found in vista.

Hello, I'm the process of trying to de-brick this EliteBook 8640p that was working just yesterday, but I decided it was time for a re-format.  I went into the BIOS settings and noticed an option called 'Safe Erase'... and I decided to perform it. After the process was complete, understandably there was no OS found. The next step (I thought) was to add bootable media (DVD-ROM or Flash Drive, I tried both) to install a new OS. After tweaking the 'Legacy Boot' settings by putting USB Flash Drive at the top, I rebooted -- and it didn't load from the removable media. I tried checking the BIOS settings again, but every time I press ESC, F9, etc. during the POST, it redirects me to 'system diagnostics', which has been extremely unhelpful since all it offers me is a few diagnostic scans (they all pass, by the way). I'm not ever able to get back to the BIOS settings. This would be day 2 of my adventure, yesterday I tried updating/reinstalling the BIOS using a Flash Drive, but the utilities provided by HP all crashed when they were about to create the BIOS update drive. I tried moving basically every .bin file I could find (there isn't a single Phoneix Bios file that I could find) onto a freshly-formatted (FAT32, 4MB block size, 2 GB capacity) Flash Drive. Booting normally with the flash drive in keeps bringing me back to the 'system diagnostics' screen, over and over again. Something quite odd happens when I try initiating the BIOS recovery routine with Win + B -- when ... Good morning all,

Let me start by thanking you guys at bleepingcomputer for fixing my computer when i had an infection yesterday morning. A trojan (i think) named windows diagnostics was to blame which hid all of my computer files. All i had open was an internet explorer which through google led me to your iexplore.exe/unhide/malwarebytes solution which i followed.

My problem as of now. The last two times i booted up windows it showed my background and the mouse cursor, nothing else. I tried ctrl-alt-del which worked but i am too noob to understand every process. After a power button reset all was back to normal and i ran malwarebytes once more. It asked me to reboot (found 2 more worms) and the above happened again. Not really a massive problem but it is annoying and it did not happen two days ago.

Also my internet explorer sometimes (not always) redirects a search result to askjeeves, a redirect to redirect to a random website and it generates popups (they appear in random intervals or only when i use iexplorer). This is also annoying and it seems a leftover from the windows diagnostics trojan.

I tried using hijackthis to kill abnormal processes (as far as i can tell) but some still stand out and i can use a professional hand in the matter.
In the background there is a highly suspicious Fvajic.exe which drains 50% comp memory and when i google the name i only get chinese character search results (which ofcourse adds to my suspicion). I can end this process in task manag... Read more

So, I have been trying to connect to the internet. The cable works fine on my other laptop.

When I try to either connect it directly to this computer, or to connect via an ad hoc connection, it says unidentified network. I got it running a while back by reseting some stuff after some internet research

(ipconfig /flushdns
netsh int reset all // netsh int ip reset ; netsh int tcp reset
netsh int ipv4 reset
netsh int ipv6 reset
netsh winsock reset)

and by using system restore and using a preferred DNS server address. Not sure which of these actions helped and eventually, it connected and identified the network. When I run diagnostics, it says thet either there is a problem with the DNS server address, or with the default gateway, or that a cable is not properly connected, even though I was connecting through the ad hoc connection, and not through a cable.

The IPCONFIG/ALL when I'm connected to the internet through a random wireless connection.

The message states. Scripted Diagnostics native Host has stopped working.
I have windows 10 pro.
There are no "google" answers for this one.
No problem with internet or anything else for that manner that message pops up a few times a day and I X it out but it is annoying.
Any help would be appreciated. I think the sdiagnhost.exe is the issue.

Hello to whomever responds to this thread. This is the first time I've used one of these help forums and my knowledge of computer lingo is limited, but I'd be greatful if you could help me with this problem.

A little while ago I downloaded an application which turned out to be a 'trojan', or so I believe. Upon opening it I received an error report, and my antivirus program (Symantec) informed me that several items with .trojan in their name had been detected and deleted. I was also advised to reboot my computer, and after doing so I became aware of a little red shield icon in my system tray. Clicking it brings up a question which reads:

"Would you like to update your security software and download System Live Protect?"

I have not clicked yes because I believe this may be a problem. Furthermore, whenever I open Internet Explorer, there is an error report: "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close."

I am unsure as to whether these two problems are related, but that is my suspicion. Is there anything that can be done?

Thanks for reading

These days I'm having a lot of problems with my PC, which until now has nearly always worked just fine, and almost all of these problems are connected in some way to Windows Installer. I'm trying to resolve them one at a time, and now I'm dealing with Microsoft Office 2007. I've managed to run Office Diagnostics (I could not do this before because the Event Log service was not available), but I get the following message:

Windows Installer
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click on OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "O12Conv.msi" in the box below:
c:\AcerSW\Works9.0\MSWorks\redist\ocp\O12Conv.msi

I haven't been able to locate the folder indicated above (C:\AcerSW \Works9.0\ MSWorks\ redist\ocp\ O12Conv.msi), and I didn't even know that Microsoft Works was on my on PC (I've never used it, I don't remember installing it, and I can't recall it being included with Office 2007 Professional Plus when I installed it several years ago). I have, however, located Works on my computer...

I have also tried to repair the installation of Office 2007 via the control panel, but after about 90 seconds the window closes, saying simply 'Configuring Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 has not been completed' without an error code or explanation.

I would like to avoid reinstalling Office if it is not absolutely necessary.

Can someone help me?

Thanks

Was recommended by someone in networking forum to post here in Virus forum. Thank you very much in advance for any support/guidance you can provide.

Original Post:

I've been struggling with fixing this for a few days ... all advice appreciated.

HP TouchSmart tm2 Laptop running Windows 7. This is my daughters laptop, so thought maybe some malware got on system - ran Malwarebytes with no problems found.

I have tried manually turning on some Services, I have removed and reinstalled WLAN connections, tried to connect through Windows Safe with Networking.

I have tried to rewind to earlier config with no luck.
When I try to revisit my Windows Firewall Settings, (Update your firewall settings), use recommended settings, I get an error Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings, Error Code 0x8007042c.

I suspect that there is some kind of problem with Windows Firewall ... corrupt code?

I also removed an old version of Norton that was on here ... thinking maybe Norton had a firewall issue. No luck.

Warranty just expired with HP, some I am not looking forward to paying them $59 to tell me to reinstall Windows ... also, would need to find the re-install disk (can't seem to find it).

When I try the basic troubleshooting, error comes up The Diagnostics Policy Service is not running.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

A:Internet Connectivity Problems - Windows 7 - Diagnostics Policy Service not running?

Thanks to all that have already reviewed this message (there seems to have been 160+ views!) I'm starting to wonder whether this is not a virus/malware issue but a regular windows corrupt files networking issue. If someone on the virus forum can confirm that they do not see something suspicious ... i can go back to the networking folks and see if they can help. Thanks again ... and for those that are celebrating .. have a happy holiday and successful New Year!
