Preferred Solution: SURT reports 2 errors which is causing sp1 not to install

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Ok, I have an older computer with windows ME on it. I tried to install a network card on it. there were two open pci slots, but neither worked. So, I took out a card that had telephone connections on it that was in a pci slot. I put the network card in that slot and windows finally reconized it and I installed it like the instructions said. I just left the telephone card out. But now I can't connect to the internet with it, and my computer is getting error messages like Propelac has caused and error in <unknown> Propelac will close now. I don't even know what propelac is. It also brings up that message with explorer and it will close explorer windows on me. Anyone know what is wrong?

Dear Sevenforums,

I just installed a new HDD by WD into a HP DV7T (2008), everything has been going well up until I tried to Update Windows. I did not retain anything from the previous installation as the previous hard drive up and quit on me!

I activated windows and had it confirmed as genuine.

I followed the instructions posted on another page and tried to install SURT and got an error: 0xc8000247.

I was hoping for some suggestions, Direct X , Java, MSE and Mechwarrior Online wouldn't install.

Perhaps a driver issue?

Have a great day all!

Sincerely,
Noodle123

A:New HDD, Windows will not update, cannot install SURT error code below

This error is due to problems with the hard drive drivers.
First, open Device Manager, and click on View > Show hidden devices

Are any devices showing with yellow triangles or red crosses?
If so, Uninstall them, then reboot and see if that cures the problem.

if not...

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

try downloading and installing them from here - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=22194

Hello, I recently replaced a defective HDD in my laptop with a new WD Black 750G HDD, re-installed my Windows 7 image using my recovery DVDs, but can't seem to update Windows OR start Windows Defender (error 0x8e5e0247). I followed the steps from "Windows Update Posting Instructions" and am listing the results:-

1. System Update Readiness Tool installation resulted in error:0xc8000247.

2. Also performed SFC Scan three separate times and received the same "WRP found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them." (see attached CBS)

When I manually try to install updates, I get "Windows Update cannot check for updates because the service is not running. Restart your computer." But if look in local services (Task Manager) Windows Update is started & running.

Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.
PS: There were some programs included in the restore, Norton AV being one of them. I uninstalled it, then downloaded the Norton Removal Tool & ran that as well. I'm mentioning this because it was recommended several times in other threads regarding this same error.

This issue may be part of a bigger problem.
I am running XP Home with SP2 on a HP Pavilion.
I have two 40 Gb drives with E as my slave.
There is 256 Mgs of ram on this pc. I have Windows firewall disabled as I use ZoneAlarm free and Avast 4 Home. (Norton became to exspensive on a yearly basis) Windows updates are automaticly installed.
The second hard drive was added a year ago. (shortly after, I acquired this issue!).
Every time I use Registry First Aid it comes up with the same results.
It appears that I have something missing from the C-drive so it wants to use Regs files from the E-drive to replace them.
Any help would be greatly appreceated. Thanks

What the title say. I want to update to 10 but for some reason the upgrade process keeps failing. So among other possible workaround I'm trying to check the health of the system. SFC is fine, chkdsk is fine, Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth and CheckHealth says the component store can be repaired, op completed successfully. But /RestoreHealth returns error 0x800f081f. I have the Windows 8.1 x64 DVD if that helps.

What can I do next? Thanks.

Hello people:

Whoa, it's been about two years since I last visited this place (but I still have good memories). I hope a techie can help me out with this irritating problem I've encountered with Wikipedia's Web pages.
The background: Ever since Jimmy let the programmers muck around with the site and introduce the 'new' Wikipedia, it's been messing up I.E. 6. I noticed that after they had finished with the beta version and force fed me the 'improved' version, I.E. was reporting errors in the status bar. The details of these errors follow:

"Access is denied to: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/skins-1.5/vector/csshover.htc"

Now I don't know how to decipher this cryptology, but I'm betting one of you can. Thanks in advance.

IE6 isn't supported anymore by Microsoft, Google, and many more websites. You should upgrade to IE8, at least for security reasons...

Ok, I will try to make a long story short. I've had issues with BSOD off and on for sometime now. They don't happen at any particular time and mostly occur in the middle of the night. They occur about every 3 to 4 months. I used Bluescreenview to look at the dump files. The driver it pointed to was ntoskernl.exe and the bug string mentioned in four different cases was reference_by_pointer, driver_irql_not_less_or_equal, memory_management and bad_pool_header. The other drive mentioned in one of the other dump files was fltmgr.sys with the bug check string of bad_pool_header.

Everything I could find on the web pointed to bad memory or bad mobo. I ran Windows Memory Diagnotcs Tool under the advanced setting. It took 9 hours to run and it failed. I took out all sticks of ram and put them in one at a time and ran the diagnostic tool with standard setting. That only took about 20 minutes each to run and all sticks of ram passed. I then put all sticks back in and ran it with the standard setting and all sticks passed again. I then took out one stick and left two sticks in and ran the test with the advanced setting and it failed. I'm now down to running one stick at a time with the advanced setting. The problem is it takes 9 hours to run on the advanced setting.

My question is do I conclude that if all sticks of ram put in one at a time fails that all my ram is bad or does that mean my mobo is bad? I plan to take a stick of ram from a machine that seems to work ok and... Read more

Hi there

I have an HP notebook that has been getting slower and slower in recent weeks. At first I thought it was because of the hugely oversized .PST files, and after archiving and compacting there has been some improvement, but that's not the end of the story. The machine still slows right down to a complete stop at intervals (from seconds to minutes) aftewhich it just picks up and takes of again as if nothing had gone wrong. These hesitations can also be from seconds to minutes (although usually it's less than 30 seconds).

I ran sfc /scannow which reported

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
supported in offline servicing scenarios.

I have looked at the log file mentioned but there are so many lines with incomprehensible information in them I thought someone here is bound to have a much better idea than I do as to "what now".

Any pointers appreciated, thanks!

P.S. I ran Seagate's Seatools disk diagnostics and it reports the disk is 100% OK after the long self-test

This is my first post on a tech help forum so sorry if i don't provide enough info or you don't like the way i talk

I recently got a new motherboard, cpu and ram. The motherboard is ASUS M4A88T-V EVO USB3, the cpu is an AMD Phenom II X4 955, and the RAM is Patriot Gaming i5 8GB DDR3

the problem only happens when i am hooked up to the new mobo. i had to get a new one because my cpu was too old for my needs and the mobo was to old for a new cpu, as well as my current ram being too old for the mobo i decided to buy. what happens is i try to power up and it starts load up. it gets past the bios, then when showing the animated windows logo that appears at startup, it freezes for a split second then the whole computer restarts. i have tried getting the drivers loaded off the mobo disc and startup repair, but neither works. i CANNOT loose the data on my hard drive. it does this when trying to load up normally and in safe mode, except in safe mode it does that right after loading up all the files. i have the problem details on my desktop right now, and they say this:

A:New mob is causing driver errors

It sounds like you did not do a clean install of Windows once you put the computer together. If you you previously had Windows installed and just moved your HDD over to the new MOBO, you will get a blue screen. Because your previous Windows installation is looking for the previous MOBO's chipset which it loaded drivers for previously.
Remove the HDD put it on a working computer as a Slave Drive or connect it using USB Adapter and backup all data you can't live without. Now put the drive back in the computer and boot off of the Windows 7 DVD and do a Startup Repair. You shouldn't loose any files this way, but it's always best to backup first.

Ok heres the problem. My computer has recently been freezing quite a bit. I have re-installed the op sys win2k prof. and it still does this. I have learned to live with the freezing not a big deal i just re-start often. Anyway today it really started acting up. I get to the login screen type in my password and it loads the desktop but before i can click on anything it gives me an error message saying that explorer has caused an error and will be closed and must be re-started, then it says generating error log. At this point i click ok and there is nothing on the desktop and there is no start bar. The only button combo that works is ctrl alt del. I have tried to boot into safe mode and it does the same thing. Today i had just finished installing new updates from microsoft and it froze right after doing this so i just had to do a hard re-start could this have screwed up the op sys????

I had to do a system recovery, and now, anytime I use a pop-up stopper w/IE6, I get an error message stating: "Internet Explorer Script Error" and it goes on about the error. Either it's an object was expected, or a null object, or the callee is not available or disappeared. I *know* it has to do with the pop-up stoppers, because if I disable them, I do not get the error (but I get the pop-up ad). I've tried numerous stoppers (StopZilla, Pop-up Stopper (basic, companion & pro), Stop-the-pop, ect.) and they all cause the same problems. I should say IE6 causes them to have a problem.

In my advanced settings under tools, DISABLE SCRIPT DEBUGGING is checked, and DISABLE A NOTIFICATION ABOUT EVERY SCRIPT ERROR is not. I don't understand what is going on. ??? I have all the updates for IE6.

Thanks.

What version of Windows are you running, please?

You may want to reinstall Internet Explorer or install the latest version of Windows Script.

And please do this:

Go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php#det , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please show us its contents.

Almost every day my computer shuts down and restarts. Windows pops up and says it has recovered from a serious system error - send error report. After I send the error report it tells me NetGear - fa312nd5.sys is causing the problem. It cannot contact the manufacturer and has no further information. I have tried to remove netgear but it does not come up in my programs add/remove list. I do not have wireless internet, nor have any need for it on my PC. I am confused why I have this program and why I cannot remove it. What do I do?????

my winxp computer keeps having errors when i try to use System restore, windows update, and other programs. when i look at the error report it says that
nview.dll was a cause. so i went to nvidia and they don't have anything in their FAQ's about this.

also my computer says that the network cable is unplugged but it is not, it is also plugged into my router which is plugged in, and this cable was working until this weekend. i was planning on getting DSL but if my network connection won't work there is no point.

A:nview.dll causing program errors?

Try uninstalling all nvidia software and reinstalling the latest driver.

The network problem.. Are there lights flashing on either end of the cable connection? If there are you should try reinstalling the driver for your NIC (Network Interface Card). If not there is a physical connection problem and the cable might be at fault.

Hope that helps,

I've been using MS Word and other Office applications for a while on my desktop, but recently Word has been acting weird. While it's running, certain keys will stop working; most recently, the c, v, and h keys. Even the on-screen keyboard's c, v, and h wouldn't do anything. However ctrl+c and ctrl+v still worked. And when I close Word, the keys return to normal. Although maybe unrelated, other times while running Word, if I click anywhere on the page, it highlights as though I'm holding shift. This also occurs other places like explorer as well (highlighting files instead of selecting them.) But when I close Word it seems to fix the problem.

Another strange occurrence that is likely entirely unrelated (but I'm putting here just in case):
The last time this happened, I restarted my computer. However, before it even got the windows loading screen, it would just go black and have a blinking cursor in the corner. I wasn't able to boot to safe mode or anything. I tried restarting several times, and just as I was about to post a message on here about it, it booted up just fine.

I've run Malwarebytes to see if there's anything awry on my system, but it hasn't turned up anything so far.

I recently got a new keyboard (Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 v2.0). Could this possibly be the cause of at least part of it?

Cheers,
Ryan

A:MS Word Causing Keyboard Errors

Hi RyanMM,

It is possible that the problem lies with your new wireless keyboard, or rather with the wireless link since all wireless links can suffer from interference. A very simple check would be to beg, borrow or steal a USB connected keyboard and see if the problems still occur. A slightly more complicated check would be to install the keyboard on a friend's computer and try it on that.

If they do, the problems is inside your computer, probably with the Word software. If they don't, then it is almost certainly a problem with the keyboard or its connection and, since you say it is new, I would go and have a chat with your supplier and see what they say.

Regards,

Chris Cosgrove

Hi guys =]

My computer broke a while back, so I bought a new system, and placed my old hard drive within that system. It works a treat, other than the fact that quite often, why I try to startup, it performs a search for corrupt files, and then, again, quite often, the computer randomly restarts (as it would if there had been a power cut). When it reloads windows, it says that the system has recovered from a serious error, and when I get more information, it gives me this error account:

C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini011308-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Matt\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER3.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml

I ran tweaknow, to try to clean the registry a little, but is there anything more specific I could do to help my problem?

Thanks a lot in advance =]

Perhaps someone can help me diagnose a problem with my pc. Occasionally when I on the internet, IE6 will stop responding with no error message it just won't connect to any links. sometimes I can reopen a new IE6 and everything works fine, other times my pc simply reboots. I did a search here and came up with plenty of links but thought I would repost this issue to get some fresh ideas. Here's the error I get in event viewer:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x1000000a (0x00000014, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x8050843c). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini112306-01.dmp.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I was also curious if IE7 might fix the problem.

Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated !

Once this happens, the movie loads and plays beautifully.

I don't think that the file system is the problem. To be 100% certain though, you could move the files to floppy (as floppy FAT table is the same) and open that way.

I think it more likely that there is either something wrong with those particular files, or with the old drive.

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your malware problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.

Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. I have the latest version of Live Messenger installed, and every time I shut my computer down (WinXP, SP2) I get a bunch of Dr. Watson dialog boxes saying it can't start because the system is being shut down.

Eventually I will get a message that MSN Messenger is having trouble shutting down, and options to "wait" or "end now". If I click "end now", it closes, and my pc shuts down normally.

If I close MSN Messenger before shutting down, I get no errors.

I've already tried a complete uninstall/reboot/install of MSN Messenger.

Also, this happened with Virtual PC once. I left the console open (but not any VPC's), and got the same Dr. Watson errors....

A:MSN Messenger causing Dr Watson errors on shutdown

Sounds like Live Messenger is faulting, so Dr Watson tries to start to log it, but can't because it sees the system is shutting down.

What happens if you log off instead of shutting down? Maybe Dr Watson will run then and log the error, which you can then view in the log file.

Default location for the log fine is %allusersprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson

Only other thing that comes to mind is Dr Watson might have a corrupt registry entry, but I don't think that would cause those messages. Easy enough to re-write them though.
Open a command prompt and enter drwtsn32 -i
This will start Dr Watson and redo the registry entries. If you have setup another program to be your default debugger, this will restore Dr Watson as the default.

Hi, recently I've been having problems on my new laptop, when it goes to sleep after being idle for a time. The screen stays blank despite the HDD working, etc. I found that these errors were being caused by WUDFRd.sys, located in C:\windows\system32\drivers.

I have tried deleting the driver, to see if that fixes the problem, but windows will not allow me to delete it, or change permissions. Presumably it considers the driver to be essential, but how can this be if it's causing these problems? Te driver is digitally signed by Microsoft, so surely it must be safe? I do not know if it is related to BSOD problems I'm having from ew_jubusenum.sys, installed with an internet dongle I purchased in Italy (HUAWEI mobile partner), or if it is a completely separate problem.

Please, can somebody help mw with this, as it's driving me a little nuts. I only just got the laptop a month ago, so would love to have it running smoothly!

Windows Home Premium x64, SP1
i7 2620 @ 2.7GHz
8Gb Corsair DDR3 RAM @ 1333MHz
GeForce GT555M 2Gb Graphics

Many thanks,
James Stansfield

A:WUDFRd.sys Causing Errors Awakening From Sleep

I think WUDFRd.sys is an UDF filesystem driver Windows uses to read CDs/DVDs formatted as UDF. It shouldn't normally give you any trouble, but you can disable this driver through Device Manager, most likely it will be located under Non-Plug and Play Drivers. Note that you will first have to enable Show hidden devices in the View menu.

As you're already found out, you can't simply delete .sys driver files since they're referenced through the registry. Device Manager lets you disable or uninstall them. (Of course uninstalling is permanent and should be used very carefully)

Everytime I go on a website that uses ActiveX I get a message saying "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly.". All of the settings in the registry and the internet options are correct. Web sites that do work are very slow to pull up. I have run Webroot in regular and safe mode and have found no errors. I have reset my ie security settings for the internet to default - also validated that everything is enabled. I am unable to pull up my norton antivirus do this error therefore cannot scan with this. any help would be appreciated. I did recently upgrade to ms office 2003 - everything was working find after this.

A:Solved: ActiveX controls causing errors

Here is how the problem was resolved. A virus had attached itself to norton and it was impossible to do anything with the software. I removed it, and could not even re-load it. I searched the internet and did a manual removeal of the software (found on the symantec web site). The issues was resolved. I then installed a new virus software - pccillin.

my new machine is bsod at least twice a day, often with the error memory management
attached are the zipped files from the diagnostic toll

A:random memory errors causing bsod

Start with memory diagnostics: Memory Diagnostics

47 memory dumps in just over a month - that's a lot!

Only 46 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 66 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

You have a 802.11n USB Wireless LAN Card:

I do not recommend using wireless USB network devices. Especially in Win7/Win8 systems.
These wireless USB devices have many issues with Win7(and I suspect with Win8) - using Vista drivers with them is almost sure to cause a BSOD.
Should you want to keep using these devices, be sure to have Win7/Win8 drivers - DO NOT use Vista drivers!!!
An installable wireless PCI/PCIe card that's plugged into your motherboard is much more robust, reliable, and powerful.

This program (in your startups) is starting from an unusual location, what is the program (please provide a link)?:

SysPrep-Win8 c:\programdata\dsg\sysprep\sysprep_for_windows8.exe nicholequinn\UpdatusUser HKU\S-1-5-21-3367515079-714982526-376341253-1001\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Out of 47 memory dumps there were about 9 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for upd... Read more

Hi folks,

I've got a very frustrating problem with Windows Vista Business SP1 on my work machine which is causing a lot of trouble.

It all started yesterday when I went to shut down the computer for the weekend. It got to the "Logging Off..." screen and got stuck there. The little circle kept spinning and spinning, but it never got passed "Logging Off". After waiting about 20 minutes I finally held down the button for 5 seconds and powered it down that way.

After this happened and I booted the computer it started running very very slow. Everything which normally opened up quickly started to lag very badly. Even typing things started to lag. I noticed after this incident the boot screen on my computer which normally shows the hard drives status as "Ready" had also changed to "Verify" in yellow. So I ran a full chkdsk which seemed to take forever. And guess what... I was back to normal running fast. The hard drive status in the boot screen even went back to green "Ready". Everything was all well again, reboot after reboot.

Then I go to shut down the computer. And what do you know... "Logging Off..." gets stuck again. And I am now in the same boat.

Before running chkdsk while the computer was running in slow motion it would shut down just fine.

Does anyone have any ideas?

A:Vista won't shut down. Causing disk errors.

I just wanted to update the situation. I have Symantec Backup Exec on my systems, so they run full nightly backups to an external network drive. I restored my computer to its previous state where it was running great. I found that the problem being caused was after installing Carbonite (online backup tool). I run this on my office pc which is also running Windows Vista Business with no problems, and on my other workstation running Windows XP.

Has anyone else using Carbonite had this issue and able to resolve it?
