Preferred Solution: Windows Script Host: Can not find script file c:\autorun.vbs

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hey guys.

just finished formating my computer (using the built in windows 8 feature). once it was up and running i uninstalled all the built in stuff lenovo brings with the computer using revo uninstaller. in the procces i also removed all registry and files those programs left.. but now theres a probelm:

this pops up every once in a while. usually when i install something. note that this is just one messege out of two! the other one looks the same but reffers to a different file - Lenovo-25207.vbs which sits in the same folder.

any ideas?

Tank out.

Right click the .vbs file - open with notepad - check the second line for a file/folder reference - and then see whether that file/folder exists....

Have you tried other USB ports on your computer to plug the drive into? Does other USB devices work?

Do you have (or have access to) another computer to plug the USB drive in?

Hello,

I was just inserting my new mp3 to the usb port when AVG detected a worm which I chose 'Heal' and it was successful.

Now I tried to open the drive an error cam up 'Windows Script Host-Can not find script file "...\autorun.vbs".

I read somewhere that I might have deleted the autorun.vbs (which AVG identify as worm)? How can I rectify this? Thanks in advance

I would really appreciate any help in this matter: after running my antivirus (AVG Free edition) for the first time and letting it heal/move to the vault a few files, I started getting this message when trying to navigate to my C: drive with Windows explorer. If I left click on the drive I get some abracadabra instead of the usual "Open" and "explore" commands.

Many thanks in advance to anyone willing to help.

Sounds like the virus has damaged your Windows installation. A repair install should be the fastest, easiest way to fix it (although visiting Windows Update afterwards will try your patience): http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

When I try to open my Sandisk USB 1 GB memory stick, I get this message ‘Can not(SIC) find script file “J://autorun.vbs”.’
This only happens when I double click on the USB drive from the “My Computer window”. If I just put in the drive for the first time, it opens OK.
I got an alert from McAfee virus scan yesterday, about a Trojan horse detected and removed. So sorry, can’t remember the name, can’t find any log file. I scanned the computer and USB memory stick, both say clean now. But when I try to ‘double click’ open the memory drive, I still get the error “Can not find script file “J://autorun.vbs”.’ and the drive won’t open.
Do I have a virus?
Should I just format the stick drive? I guess I will only loose some software that came with the drive?
Thanks,
Drew

Think you have a flash drive infection but not sureYour best option would be Please read and follow all instructions in the pinned topic titled "Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log". You may have performed some of these steps already. About half way down are instructions for downloading HijackThis and creating a log. When you have done that, post a log in the HijackThis Logs and Analysis Forum, NOT here, for assistance by the HJT Team Experts. A:Cannot find script autorun.vbs

When antivirus or security software detected the autorun.vbs file as infected, the file will be deleted or removed or quarantined. However, other files (autorun.*) and registry value still referring to autorun.vbs, and this document no longer exists, hence the error when users double click to open a drive folder.

To correct and solve this error, follow this steps:

1. Run Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del or right click on Taskbar)
2. Stop wscript.exe process if available by highlighting the process name and clicking End Process.
3. Then terminate explorer.exe process.
4. In Task Manager, click on File -> New Task (Run…).
5. Type “cmd” (without quotes) into the Open text box and click OK.
6. Type the following command one by one followed by hitting Enter key:

del c:\autorun.* /f /s /q /a
del d:\autorun.* /f /s /q /a
del e:\autorun.* /f /s /q /a

c, d, e each represents drive letters on Windows system. If there are more drives or partitions available, continue to command by altering to other drive letter. Note that you must also clean the autorun files from USB flash drive or portable hard disk as the external drive may also be infected.

7. In Task Manager, click on File -> New Task (Run…).
8. Type “regedit” (without quotes) into the Open text box and click OK.
9. Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
10. Check if the value name and value data for the key is correct (the val... Read more

During usage this morning I had a Windows Script Host screen Pop up. This Host Notice says the following: Can not find script file "C:/Documents and Settings/Owner/Local Settings/Temp/.tt.tmp.vbs". At the same time I received a Spyware warning pop up and my desk top became a vivid microsoft blue. Of course shortly thereafter "file eating roaches" began to crawl all over my screen. I ran my norton anti-virus software and performed the manual fix called for. Upon rebooting the same cycle of pop ups occured. I noticed that the Deckard's system scanner identified ASPIMGR as a recently created service. *The Kaspersky program just completed a section and identified 5 Trojan infections. Another section had 1 virus and 38 infected objects. This is getting worse and worse it seems. Hi, alejandr0

If you have a USB Flash drive, make sure you have it plugged in.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=userinit.exe,autorun.bat

Now close all windows and browsers, other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

Close Hijackthis.

Download the enclosed folder. Save and extract its contents to the desktop. It is a folder containing a Batch file, Autorunsquery.bat. Once extracted, open the folder and double click on the Autorunsquery.bat to run the file.

Hopefully, It will produce one file, Report.txt.
Please post the contents of Report.txt in your next reply.

Its not unusual to receive such an error after using specialized fix tools.A "Cannot find...", "Could not run...", "Error loading... or "specific module could not be found" message is usually related to malware that was set to run at startup but has been deleted. Windows is trying to load this file but cannot locate it since the file was mostly likely removed during an anti-virus or anti-malware scan. However, an associated orphaned registry entry remains and is telling Windows to load the file when you boot up. Since the file no longer exists, Windows will display an error message. You need to remove this registry entry so Windows stops searching for the file when it loads. To resolve this, download Autoruns, search for the related entry and then delete it.Create a new folder on your hard drive called AutoRuns (C:\AutoRuns) and extract (unzip) the file there. (click here if you're not sure how to do this.)Open the folder and double-click on autoruns.exe to launch it.Please be patient as it scans and populates the entries. When done scanning, it will say Ready at the bottom.Scroll through the list and look for a startup entry related to the file(s) in the error message.Right-click on the entry and choose delete.Reboot your computer and see if the startup error returns.

hi!

how do i remove "cannot find script file C:/WINDOWS/jargon.vbs" which appears each time I boot.

A:cannot find script file C:/WINDOWS/jargon.vbs

That .vbs file is malware and related to a flash drive infection.A flash drive (usb, pen, thumb, jump) infection usually involve malware that modifies/loads an autorun.inf (text-based configuration) file into the root folder of all drives (internal, external, removable) along with a malicious executable. When removable media such as a CD/DVD is inserted (mounted), autorun looks for autorun.inf and automatically executes the malicious file to run silently on your computer. For flash drives and other USB storage, autorun.ini uses the Windows Explorer's right-click context menu so that the standard "Open" or "Explore" command starts the file. Malware modifies the context menu (adds a new default command) and redirects to executing the malicious file if the "Open" command is used or double-clicking on the drive icon. When a flash drive becomes infected, the Trojan will infect a system when the removable media is inserted if autorun has not been disabled. Keep in mind that autorun.inf can also be a legitimate file which other legitimate programs depend on so the presence of that file may not always be an indication of infection. To learn more about this risk, please read:When is AUTORUN.INF really an AUTORUN.INF?Nick Brown's blog: Memory stick wormsUSB-Based Malware AttacksDanger USB! Is Kaspersky working or not working? If you are getting a VB Script error, either something was removed in error, or you have the OS locked down too tightly with the A/V software.

Hi, TSG Masters.

I recently inherited a laptop from a colleague who left (OS is Win XP, SP2 installed). Unfortunately, I believe it was infected by the "autorun.vbs" trojan. Everytime I double-click on the mounted hard drives, a new window will open. And when I right-click on them, garbage messages appear instead of the "Open" and "Explore" options.

Avast! was the previously installed anti-virus program, but I replaced this with F-Secure. A recent scan was able to delete the trojan, but now, I can't get rid of the "Can not find script "c:\autorun.vbs"" message everytime I double click on my drives. And the garbage texts are still there where I right click.

I plan to transfer my important files from my desktop to this laptop (via external hard disk), but I'm afraid it might get infected while the laptop isn't completely "clean".

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

This is not really a reply but I can't figure out how to start a new thread so this is what's happening to my computer, (its a custom built ,AMD FX-4100 Quad-Core 3.60GHz, gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P, win 8.1 pro, 64 bit AVG internet security 2015, internet explorer 11) I had installed win 10 and my machine kept freezing so I uninstalled it and now I'm getting the following:
Windows Script Host:
Can not find script file "C:\ProgramData\{DF7337B0-8FF1-E636-3E77-96B4EEF5453A}\1.9.3.1\fiber.js."
I have tried a program called Reimage to fix this but it didn't, so now I have not a clue what to do. I understand how to build a computer but not all the software and error messages. I don't want to have to do a clean format unless its the last resort as I have a lot of stuff I don't want to lose, also my computer is not setting auto restore points either.

A:Cannot find script file

First thing I would try is an MBAM scan. The free version has the same scanner as the Pro.

The hits I see online indicate it is probably an adware tracker. If MBAM doesn't find it you can also try SuperAntiSpyware Free Portable

Have you recently removed some viruses/malware from your system? If so, are you sure that your system is clean? If not, I'd suggest posting over in the "Am I Infected" forum located here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/103/am-i-infected-what-do-i-do/Once you're sure that you're clean we should be able to remove the message without any issues (as a caveat, if the system isn't clean - this could cause the virus to mutate and hide. Making it much, much more difficult to remove).

It's me again...

This error pops up on my computer from time to time for no reason, I don't know why. It popped up three times now after each other. I'm able to click OK to TEMPORARILY get rid of the message, but then after a while it comes back

Windows Script Host:
Can not find script file "C:/windows/system32/s4c.vbs".

What do I need to do? What's wrong? THANKS.

A:Windows Script Host

Hmm, it seems to have disappeared now. I'll reply later if the error occurs again.

Hi,
About a week ago i started having this error:

(The only thing that isn't understandable in this picture is the error because it is in french, so here is the translation for it : " Error:The system cannot locate the resource specified.")

It started to get really annoying as it pops up everytime i start up my pc, so i googled the error this morning, i found out that those vbe files in that directory are scripts that create a trojan in your computer.I navigated to the directory but i couldn't find the file "45A7AA.vbe".

I have format my PC , some hours ago but i'm really concerned about my data.
I think that the script was never executed because the file is not in that directory, but i really would like to know if it was executed to know if the hacker has had access to my info.

Thanks.

Hello,

I'm writing some scripts in WSH and VBScript however I wanted to program an interface to go with them. I have Visual Studio 2008 and created a form and made all the buttons and programmed a lot of functions in VB. Now it has come to do the stuff that requires WSH and it would appear VB cannot do this, just VBScript..

Is there anyway of integrating VBScript with VB, or is ther anyway of programming interfaces in VBScript or are there any ways of programming WSH using VB.

Any help appreciated.

A:Windows Script host

One of the simpler thoughts is to run the script using
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.visualbasic.interaction.shell(VS.80).aspx
see the example where they launch notepad.
You will need to use cscript (wscript?) on the command line invoke the script.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/xazzc41b(VS.85).aspx
It's tough to say more w/o knowing what you are doing though. My guess is that it can be done in vb rather than using a script.

This link might give a better overview of how to command line run a script using cscript or wscript
