Duplicate Email With One Copy Going To Spam

Q: Duplicate Email With One Copy Going To Spam

I am getting 2 copies of some email, with one copy going to the inbox folder my rule tells it to, and the other copy goes to spam. Also, some messages coming from my own domain go to spam.

Outlook 2007
XP
Exchange 2003

As far as I know, I am the only person in my organization getting this problem. I deleted my Outlook profile and re-created, but it didn't help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What happens when you delete your "rule" assuming it is unique to your computer?
It may be the rule that is causing the problem.

I have a duplicate copy of WXP on one HD. My HD is showing VERY little available disk space and is running VERY..Very slow! How do I remove the duplicate copy? I have done the "Boot Log" update to remove it from there...but is still eating up my disk space.

I have removed the vast majority of old "junk" software off of the system and have done a disk defrag, registry clean, etc.

Thank you in advance for any help that can be offered!

Well...first things first.System manufacturer and model? How did the system come to have what you refer to as a "copy"?How large is the hard drive...better yet, please post a screenshot from Disk Management.Start/Run...type diskmgmt.msc and hit Enter.Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons: Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable.

The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry.
Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different ... Read more

Hi guys,

'Boopme' had me run MiniToolBox and he wrote that he found "errors and other issues" and he bumped me to this thread.

Norton now seems to be removed and the restart was successful w/ out a restore.

This is what I wrote in under the from "Am I infected?" thread;

Been having problems with my laptop running Vista Home premium svc pack2.
One day, a month ago, Norton was not updating properly. Upon the next boot-up windows would not start and I was forced to restart in safe mode with a system restore. This was successful but Norton Security Suite was still not updating properly.
Since then, on a few occasions, I have attempted to uninstall Norton without success thru the program uninstaler. Norton is unresponsive. I even got the Norton rep. to do a remote deletion of all registry files of Norton. But they all returned after the reboot of my PC because windows would not open and I had to start-up thru system restore.
Since then my yahoo email been hacked and spam sent to the contacts of my address book.
I know I got something but I don't know what.. Can anyone take a stab at what I might need to do?
Thanks,
Brian

I am having a problem with my copy and paste function. When I paste something that I have copied elsewhere (no matter the location of pasting) I end up having to delete a duplicate paste in the same field. Can anyone solve this problem. I have looked online and cant seem to find a solution besides formatting my computer and re-installing a windows OS!

A:duplicate copy and pasting issues

It does it no matter how you trigger the paste? Mouse, contol-v, shift-insert ... everything?

I'm trying to rule out a hardware cause like sticky keys.
In fact you could check the sticky keys setting in control panel.
That would account for key paste being duped. But not the mouse I wouldn't think.

Running Win 7 .  Opened spam email by mistake and email account hacked. Acct locked by server after 1600 email sent. Account has been recovered.  I ran full scan with Microsoft Essentials and Malwarbytes and both clean.  Then I did a full scan with Kapersky and it showed 1 malware  of Trojan.JS.Agent.cfl located on my external harddrive in my backup files location and possibly 2 other locations on the report.  I have pdf ofKapersky report if want to see.
I also ran AVG 2015 and it was clean.

Not sure if I should just delete the backup files from my external hard drive.
What other scans can I do to make sure everything is OK?? - I have not noticed anything unusual with computer yet but want to ease my mind.

I began receiving messages about corrupted files in XP and so tried to repair option to reinstall the corrupted files, but somehow ended up completely reinstalling into a second directory.

Both directories are on my C drive. One, the original, is still the same. All software installed and working the same as before my attempt. The second, Windows.0, is XP with nothing installed, fresh condition.

As this isn't an upgrade from another windows, I'm don't know how to get rid of this second windows.

Also, everytime I reboot my computer, it asks me which windows I want to use.
Not to mention the wasted disk space...

How can I get rid of these!!??

I think I have asked this before. I am getting so much spam email im sick of deleting it all! These fat heads who send it to me I wish they would stop.

Some of the emails say "Your date has been approved with Jenn" Then will say my husband is away for a week so if the first date goes well we will try another.

Come talk to jean and see her body at bla bla website.

I get so many others too. Partsolver and towel direct?? I now have between my two computers almost 200 unread of spam emails and some thats not spam. It takes forver to go through and delete them all.

Ive been told not to hit unsubscribe but sometimes it helps. They say then they know your email is valid. Well they must or they would cease to email me so whats it going to matter to unsubscribe?

Ive even tried to "bounce to sender" but nothing works! Is there any way to block emails from these people? Or not allow them on my server? A auto bounce before they even come on my pc?

Maybe I should just ask my ISP I dont know. I thought id ask one last time.

A:I get lots of spam email to my email address

There are usually two places where SPAM filtres can be effective. The most obvious is at your ISP's Mailbox; because how ISPs handle the spam filter vary, I can give no explicit instructions, although their on-line help section generally will provide those.
The second place is at your Email Client on your computer. FF/Mozilla both include teachable Spam filters that you can use to segregate legitimate mail from the gunk.

The best place to stop SPAM is to be extremely careful about your Email Address. It would be a wise step to have one Email Address for friends, family, and trusted people, and a "throwaway" Email address (s) for on-line registrations, Ebay, or other public places. Once these addresses become, as they will, clogged with SPAM, you can simply delete them and create new addresses, beginning the process over again.

John

Hello! I'm a (very) long time lurker of this site but recently decided to join. I've had my Windows 8.1 Toshiba Satellite laptop for a bit over a month. About 2 weeks into ownership I started receiving spam emails in my msn account, the one I use to sign into the laptop. These mails are sometimes from me, although I have checked my sent mail and there isn't anything there I haven't personally sent. I signed into a different email account and that one was spammed too, until I signed out.

I access the internet from my phone and my desktop pc (Windows 7). I wasn't sure where the issue was coming from so I turned off the desktop but the problem persisted. I did a system restore on the I ran AntiMalwarebytes, CCleaner, and my antivirus programs which all came back clean, but the problem is still here.

I've factory restored three times, completely reformatted the drive twice and I still have the problem. I installed Windows 10 Preview but I didn't receive any spam for the hours I had it running. I reinstalled my OEM version of 8.1 and within 2 hours the spam emails started. The last time, I hadn't even installed my firewall and antivirus program when the spam email started. I also noticed that my OneDrive says the last time the files were synced was in 1969.

Having the laptop in airplane mode or shut off is the only way I don't receive spam.

I have Windows 7. So, the trouble started a couple days ago. I downloaded an update for Avast! Free Antivirus. After updating, it asked to restart the computer - I clicked OK. Upon restarted, Windows 7 wouldn't boot at all. After some experimenting, I determined it was probably a driver issue (I couldn't even start Safe Mode, so it must've been a core driver). I used an old system image stored on an external hard drive to restore my primary SSD. It worked, but now the other SSD that I have also has a mysterious copy of windows that never existed previously. It's taking up a lot of room, and I'm fairly certain it isn't being used at all. I want to delete it to free up space (the secondary SSD is dedicated only to video games) but I don't want to screw anything up. Can I delete the mysterious copy of Win7 from my secondary SSD without any issues? Pictures below:

As you can see, it looks as if Progenitor (the original SSD) is still the drive running the OS (I assume that's what the Windows logo next to it means).

The next two images seem to show that Windows is still fully installed and operational on Progenitor (the original SSD that was restored by the system image on Eddy (the external hard drive)).

This is where I find things get weird. While I distinctly remember the system image restoration saying that it was restoring drive C (Progenitor), a seemingly-full installation of Windows also seems to have been put onto Legacy (the secondary, gaming-dedicate... Read more

A:Duplicate copy of Win7 on secondary SSD after restoring old system img

You can probably safely delete the Windows install on Legacy...

But before you do... (with the power off) disconnect Legacy's SATA cable and make sure that you can boot from Progenitor. That will make sure that no files are needed from Legacy in order to boot. Sometimes these restores can cause the boot tables to get messed up between drives, especially when it restored your data to a different drive that what it said it was going to. You never know what might have happened to the BCD tables.

Don't do any deletion until you're positive that you can boot from Progenitor alone.

Simple problem - copy sheet then delete duplicate rows

I have a worksheet that is composed a header row, and columns of data (client call results).
Each client is identified by a unique ID number in column A, a seperate column F has the 'call number, from 1 to x'.
So a client can have a single or multiple rows of data. Each client group of rows is sequenced with call 1 as line 1, call 2 at line 2, etc. etc. as your proceed down the rows.
The entire worksheet is already sorted (with a header row) ascending by client id and call #

What I want to accomplish is this

1 - copy the existing worksheet (CallRecords) to a new worksheet (CallToday)
2 - in the new worksheet, scan down (or up) from first data row (2) to the last row {ws.Cells(Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp).Offset(1, 0).Row} and
delete duplicate rows of the Client ID retaining the row with the max call number for that client id.
3 - sort the new worksheet (CallToday) ascending by column (G) date, and column (H) time.

Thanks for your help. I am a newbie to VBA.

Not a problem, since you don't need it for this ; a combination of built-in functions will do.

It's not clear if you have blanks in col A -- if you do, that can be easily fixed.

See the attached. The list of ID #s in col A of Sheet2 was extracted from Sheet1 using Advanced Filter (unique records only). The formulas in col B of Sheet2 pull in the value from col B of Sheet1 (per the last row for each ID #).

Post back if you need help interpreting the formulas.

Hi, I'm having a problem with my email. I was clearing out my folders and notice an email in my junk file sent from myself to myself. Same email to and from. It was flagged as important and having read it, it is clearly spam. I checked Windows Live Mail and found a couple more of these emails that have been sent from me, to me.

So I think I have some kind of virus or malware that is using my email account to send spam email to people on my contact list.

Can anybody help me with rooting this out?

A:Duplicate email problem

The info in the link below describes several scenarios of why emails are duplicated.
Email Troubleshooting - Duplicate Emails

I think this one applies to you because you receive duplicates of every email.

I get multiple copies of every email.
Likely cause: You have multiple forwarders set up. Let's say person A is getting the double copies. Perhaps emails to B forward to A and C, while emails to C also forward to A. So A is getting the emails from both B and C.

Hi Walterose

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Importing will do that, keep adding and adding with each subsequent Import performed.
I usually try an Import using a new Identity first to see what results I can expect, "NOW you tell me", you say

This is what I have found so far that relates to duplicate messages:

Subfolders created under the Inbox or other folders?
Do you have Outlook Express configured to show all folders?
Tools > Options > General tab

Close Outlook Express, then restart, subfolders should be showing if they contain unread messages.

Do you have Subfolders at all?

Close Outlook Express.

Hello,

I have 2 computers - an eMachines desktop and a Gateway laptop. They are both Windows 7, and I use Windows Live Mail on both. I use the desktop during the day, and set up the laptop on the bed for the evening before I go to sleep. I have 3 email addresses, and want to use the 3rd one on both computers. This way, I don't have to have my friends or groups writing to me at two different addresses, which is difficult to remember and complicated for them. When I'm not at the desktop, I want to receive the email from the 3rd address on the laptop, and vice versa.

The problem that arises is, I get full downloads of all emails for the day on both computers. Anything I've already received on the desktop is also received when I move to the laptop later in the day. Is there any way to stop these duplicate downloads?

I cleaned several virus's from hundreds of files, installed and implemented SpyBot to take care of adware and put AVG on his system.

Server timeouts occur every time he tries to get his email, (OE). Some messages are being duplicated a dozen or more times. His ISP says they can't help and the problem must be at his end.

I found a thread here that talks about a corrupted Pop3uidl.dbx file but it is a very old thread(2001), and I can't find that filename on my system.

Suggestions?

When i partially type in the name of the person i want to send an email to, it either auto completes it, or shows me a bunch of names i can send it to. This is all fine and normal, but All of a sudden today, when it gives me the names i can send it to, there are 2 copies of each name. when i open the "addresses" tab, there's only one entry. so why, when autocomplete shows me names are there 2 of each?
i use OE6.0

thanks for your help in advance

I am experiencing a siege of duplicate & triplicate email msgs. This happens sporadically but hasn't plagued me lately until just tonight. What's happening? Chuck Wilmot ([email protected])

A:Duplicate & Triplicate Email msgs-Why?

You probably have a corrupt POP3UIDL.DBX file.

Close OE and delete that file (search for it on hard drive).

It will be recreated when you re-open OE.

However BE VERY CAREFUL, there can be bad things happen if you do this, so make sure you read up about it first.

I am not takin responsibility for what might happen, but this worked on my machine. There are also special instructions for hotmail users.

Hello

This is my first post to this site which looks like a great resource!

A friend recently sent a response to an email I'd sent her which included several embedded photos. Her email included lots of 'goobledegook' (random letters and numbers) and the photos had been deleted. I also received 30 duplicate emails that only contained the goobledook. Each email had a different number at the end of the subject line but was posted at the same time. After that I've received about 12 copies of this same email each time I open Outlook. I've done a scan of Program Files using ESET Smart Security but nothing was found. I'm running Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2007.

My friend let me know that something similar has happened before and that she has problems every time she tries to send an attachment.

Any suggestions about how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!

many thanks

June

A:Continuous duplicate email problem

A common cause of this is a bad message on the server that Outlook is unable to download properly. When it gets to that message it stops downloading and never continues to the step where it deletes the downloaded messages from the server. The next time you try to download, those same messages are still on the server and they get downloaded again.

Login to webmail and delete all the messages that have been getting downloaded repeatedly, and delete the next message after them, which is likely to be the one that's causing the failure. Then try downloading with Outlook again.

Sevenforums,

I use windows Live Mail, wife uses XP. Many in my vomputer club use XP, Vista,win7 as I do.

I have been accused of forwarding messages to a group of people, one of which claimed she got over 50 of them. Another friend has been accused of sending a message to two people that claimed to receive many copies. In on case my wife got a message with overa full page of the same message and suddenly they started deleting dwon to one message

In all the cases mentioned the sent message total showed just one message. I have searched the web for possible reason for this whithout a clear possible cause. In one case I got a reply for Outlook and Outlook Express that was to protect the person receiving the duplicate copies but nothing about settings that would prevent the action.

Does anyone have any ideas??? Pleae ignor missplelled words I slept during spelling during growing up.

A:duplicate email messages, lots of them

One common cause of repeated sends that can be traced back to your actual mail program is possibly anti-malware tools that are trying to scan outgoing email, or otherwise interfere with the proper operation of the mail program. It's a common cause of repeated (or failed) downloads of email, and when the feature is enabled to scan sent mail, it can interfere there as well.

Depending on the type of interference, the email program responds by saying "well, that didn't work, I'll try to send it again" - and again, and again.

The solution here is pretty simple: locate that feature in your anti-malware or security suite, and turn it off. You may need to close and restart your email program, or even reboot your machine for the change to take effect.

Another possibility is that the Sent folder has a size limit. Let's say there's a 2GB limit for all saved Sent emails. Once that limit is reached weird things can happen. If there are a lot of emails with photo attachments, etc in the Sent folder, it wouldn't be all that hard to reach the mail box limit. Try creating a new folder. Call it whatever you want; maybe something like "SentArchive", or "OldSenrMail" and move all the messages in your Sent folder to the new folder. That should a) retain all your sent messages should you need to refer to them, and b) empty the Sent folder so the mail box limit isn't a factor.

Another possibility is that your email account has been compromised. This art... Read more

I have Microsoft Outlook 2003 on a few computers. It appears that they get their emails from a local server which is defined as the MS Exchange Server. (Box ticked for Use Cached Exchange Mode). Outlook is then configure with my username to pull my emails of the server (i guess...). I get an email to my company email from an external source (not company email) that is CC to another company email address, and I will get a duplicate email in my inbox. If it is CC to 2 people I will get 2 duplicates (3 messages in total) This leads me to believe that outlook is not configured to pull the right emails from the server right? However, when receiving an email from an internal source (company email) and it is CC to another compnay member, I only get 1 copy. When dealing with 1 to 1 emails, everything works fine. Any ideas?

I've had this problem for years. My Windows Live Mail 2012 frequently (not always) downloads duplicates of every new email. The email protocol is POP3. Someone suggested I should use IMAP. I tried it. . . but, at least with Comcast's system, IMAP duplicates what's on the server. . . which can go back several years of emails. . . which I DO NOT want to retain. Comcast provides no option to delete emails older that X days, so when I switched to IMAP, every g.d. email I've received in the last 3 years downloaded to my Inbox. So I went back to POP3.

So why do I get duplicates?

Good morning, people,

One of my users here is having a wierd issue with her Outlook program...Every time she sends an email out, a .txt file of that email is sent as an attachment to that email.

So an email saying, "Greetings!", has the text file attached that says, "Greetings!".

Any ideas?

I have computer 1 with Office 365 Outlook - with email account. If I have a second computer and copy the .pst file from one computer to the other, I know that when I open Outlook all the existing emails will be there, calendar, etc. But if I have Outlook set to leave messages on the server, will the old messages be downloaded causing duplicates? I know that Outlook keeps an ID record of emails that are downloaded - but is this kept within the *pst file? If so then it should work that I can copy the *pst file and carry on without duplicates. I can understand that if I created a new blank account with nothing in it, then the old files would download...but will this still happen if I just copy & paste the email *pst account file across (keeping the name the same) - same Office 365....

I maintain a basic database in Excel 2000 and use Word 2000 to do an email merge. There are about 130 records on the list and the emails go to my outbox in my earthlink account. The first time I did it, I merged all records at one time and everyone received the same email twice. The second time I did it, I merged about 20-30 at a time, in different batches, but it still duplicated everyone. Any suggestions on what's going on and then how I can fix it/create a work-around. (One I've half considered is importing the Excel file to Access and trying it from there...but I'm not an Access expert and I'm hoping someone has an 'easier' solution.)

This hasn't happend in the two and a half years I've had this email account and started just the other day. I've also been getting blank emails or from people I have no idea who they are with weird messages. I ran Ad-Aware, CWShredder, and the About Host deleting program, as well as Spybot and everything is fine. Also ran an Anti-Virus the other day as I had a trojan, but it is gone now. Still getting spam and an occaisonal pop-up. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can create a a list of email addresses to block on top of most email providers built-in spam filters.

Other than, there isn't anything you can do to prevent getting spam. It's just one of those things that come with having an email account.

This is just something I'd like to understand... unless it involves a really long answer that's not worth anyone's time.

How is it that I receive email which isn't addressed to me?

I get a fair amount of spam but it's not too bad, OH gets a lot more. When we look at the message source, we see the recipients listed and all the addresses after the @ are our ISP, but none of the names before the @ include the account names we use... well, sometimes they do, but far more don't.

So how is it that these are ever delivered into our inbox in the first place, when there isn't an address match? After all, if any of us sends a legit email to someone, and the address is no longer valid, it bounces.

I've never understood this... and I hate not understanding why things happen!

there are links or attachments that lead to infected sites.

many emails have been sent.

the ISP informed me.

i ran many anti-virus, anti-spyware and an anti-rootkit program. i changed my password 4 times to no avail.

I clicked on the headers and blocked the addresses of the email's that the spam came from. it still comes. the addresses that the spam emails comes from, changes. the IP's come from my ISP or the middle of a sea.

i ran something like your SysInfo utility on another site. they found nothing. is there a freeware that blocks incoming emails to my ISP email. it is sending 70 spam emails a day through my computer.

thanks in advance.
