Synaptics UltraNav Driver for Windows 10 does not work with older X-series

Q: Synaptics UltraNav Driver for Windows 10 does not work with older X-series

I installed and activated Windows 10 on a pair of X-series laptops, an X220 and an X201. Everything was just fine except that the touchpad does not control the cursor well, either freezing it or bouncing around madly. I finally solved the problem by changing the UltraNav driver to PS/2 Mouse driver, less functional, but it actually works. When I ran the Windows 10 update, it reinstalled the UltraNav driver, so I had to revert back to the PS/2 driver and reboot. (The UltraNav driver downloaded from the Lenovo site is equally defective.) Yes, I know these are older systems, but can't Synaptics do a working driver? Or maybe Microsoft could install the basic PS/2 Mouse driver as the default? I must be dreaming. Anyway, the problem of a properly function touchpad has a solution.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Thus far I failed to identify the circumstances in which the touchpad stops working. It seems to sometimes happen when it checks for an update. What is also curious that the cursor will sometimes mess up such that the text cursor will be displayed as the context menu cursor. Not sure if this is related. The touchpad works again after restart. Everything is up-to-date, running Windows 10 (1909). The TrackPoint is unaffected by this.

Hello, recently I noticed that on my up-to-date Windows 10 (Creators Update) there is a process called "WMI Provider Host" (WmiPrvSE.exe) constantly using 1-3% CPU no matter what you are doing. I've been observing this behaviour just recently (maybe 1-2 weeks). So I started with a fresh (completely clean) Windows 10 installation on my Thinkpad X260. I observed this behaviour instantly after Windows finished its instalation and update process without installing any custom software from Lenovo website. When I try to kill this WMI host instance, it is restarted imidiatelly and problem continues. I attached threads output from ProcessExplorer. I looks like the thread execution is deadlocked or something similar. So I started digging which application is causing this WMI host cpu usage. After disabling Synaptic Pointing Device service called "SynTPEnhService" this behaviour disappeared. So I started digging around Synaptic executables. I was able to find out, that process causing this cpu usage is SynTPEnh.exe, which I believe is some kind of main (parrent) process for Synaptic driver functions. When I kill this particular process, then I am able to pernamently kill the WMI host causing those troubles. Well, it actually restarts again, but has no cpu usage. I am using latest version of Synaptic drivers available, which is Is anybody else observing such behaviour? What is the solution for this problem? By disabling SynTPEnhService you loose your track... Hi everyone, My trackpad stopped working, and I've been trying to troubleshoot the issue. Everytime I try to enable the trackpad with Fn+F8, I get the message "UltraNav driver is not installed." The Lenovo systems updates says that I have an UltraNav driver update available for my computer, but everytime I install it and reboot, I get the same message. Everytime. I can find where the driver has been downloaded on my computer, but the computer still says that "UltraNav driver is not installed," and the driver update still remains available on the system updates. I've tried downloading again and again, only to re-write and reinstall the download, with no effect. I've also tried going directly to the Lenovo website and downloading the driver from there to the same effect. Any advice?

Hi Mark_lenovo or other thinkpad expert, I will ask for your help in finding a driver for the UltraNav 2(ALPS) on the Thinkpad X300 for windows 10(64bit). Currently I use the latest driver for windows 7 (7.202.1616.206):
But that one has issues with the metro/Modern parts of windows 10 UI: Touchpad scroll works in Internet Explorer, Firefox, File Explorer, Device manager, Help, Services.msc and some other places, but it does not work in Start menu or any menu under system, Control panel, Edge or Windows Store.
Most likely it's because the programmers didn't know about the modern UI when they made the driver and therefore it does not support it, and that is why scroll is not working in those parts of the UI.
The synaptics touchpad on some Thinkpad models works fine with driver version 17.xx.xx.x but as soon as it is updated scroll function seize to work again - mine is ALPS Ultranav 2 touchpad - is it possible to "cheat a bit" and use the ultranav utility in combination with the synaptics driver or can synaptics driver replace the ALPS driver totally(I tried this on my R500 and it didn't work, the touchpad were disabled after restart)?
Do you know of any other thinkpad models with same Ultranav 2 touchpad(Palmrest FRU# 42X5021) that has a newer driver and will work with the X300 and windows 10 Modern UI? Could you find out?
I already tried most of the series 8 drivers I could find o... Read more

I just want to report that the newest touchpad driver brakes native windows middle-click scrolling. What I'm talking is this:1. Swich off all advanced features in the TouchPoint setting to get back a middle button. BTW, how on earth it is possible that the default setting "steals" the middle button. Going for the Nr. 1. PC maker and forgetting a stupid default settings in a Synaptics driver is a joke.  2. Now, try scrolling in any native windows application like Chrome, Firefox, etc. The quick way of scrolling is to push the middle button while scrolling. It had always worked before. Now this way is broken. Now, the only way for scrolling is to the:1. push middle button to enter scolling mode2. move mouse3. push again to exit scrolling mode This scolling mode has never been a good way to scroll, but the quick way is broken with the latest driver. I'm using a W520 with Windows 7, 64-bit. Broken driver: Version

A:Newest UltraNav driver brakes native windows middle-click scrolling

I have a similar problem as the OP: after today's update, my Touchpad is not functioning properly anymore. Scrolling of any sort on the Touchpad seems to have been disabled. As I do not have a mouse attached, I am forced to use the Trackpoint set's middle button and then move my cursor around to scroll. I checked my Control Panel settings and both two-finger and single-finger Touchpad scrolling are enabled via the settings. Also I don't know if this is relevant, but it seems like the option to double-tap to bring up Lenovo SimpleTap has also randomly been disabled... W530, Windows 7 x64.

I am running Windows 10 on an Acer and recently downloaded and installed the update for the Synaptic touchpad (January 17, 2017).  After rebooting my laptop, I can use the touch pad to move the cursor when logging in, but once the system as loaded,
I cannot move the cursor using the touch pad.  I can left-click and right-click, and shrink and expand on the touch pad, but have no control over the cursor.  I currently have a mouse attached to the computer in order to move the cursor.
When I click on the link for more information about the update, there currently is no information.  Quite frustrating.
Please advise as how to resolve this issue.
Thank you.

Hello,  After upgrading to Windows 10, a new version of the Synaptics Touchpad driver for my X220T was automatically installed. However, I soon found that 2-finger scrolling is extraordinarily slow, even after manipulating some of the Synaptics control panel settings such as "scroll speed", and that "inertia" pointing has been turned on by default, which is very annoying.  I have been able to hide the update for now (using the wushowhide.diagcab tool) even though hiding updates in Windows 10 is far more convoluted than in Windows 8.1 and have installed the Windows 8.1 driver from Lenovo Downloads instead.  My question is, when will a driver from Lenovo or with appropriate fixes from Synaptics be released? William

Due to some issues after the WIndows 10 Home upgrade I've done a clean install of Windows 10 on my R7-371T. Everything works perfect except for the touchpad. It works but every now and then it seems to be laggy and present me with beeps. Especially right after startup (probably caused by many things happening at the same time causing the lag). Not BIOS beeps, but through the normal audio channels. If I mute sound, the beeps are not heard. Are there more with this issue and have ideas to get rid of that? The Windows 10 clean install is on completely emptied harddisk, all settings at default and after install I've installed each and every driver update as offered by Acer.

Can't be 100% but I chnaged a few things last night and so far so good. Of the things I tried I believe the following was the most likely solution, would be interested if it works for anyone else.... Through the ACER care centre app, choose the tune up app and in the "start up" section disable both of the following Realtec HD Audio ManagerHD Audio background proc... Restart the laptop, which will mean the 2 FMAPP processes associated with these applications aren't runnung after the restart. See how that goes... by the way sound stll works The other 2 things I did was to disable cortana and uninstall the Intel Driver App. But as said I suspect the above most likely made the difference...

Hi all, The latest version of the touchpad driver for the T440 disables my trackpoint and removes the option to re-enable it from the Mouse Properties menu. Has anyone else had this issue? I did a search to see if this was already posted but didn't find it.  So, here's my story. I have a P40 Yoga that's about a year old.  A couple of weeks ago, I received a pop-up from Lenovo Vantage saying there was a system update.  Like a good user, I said OK.  I didn't notice it right away (because I use an external mouse) but the trackpad, left/right click buttons and the "trackpoint" center button all stopped working.  I did a lot of searching to see if there was a resolution but couldn't find one. Eventually, I went into Control Panel | Device Manager | Mice and other pointing devices | ELAN pointing device | Driver and saw that there was a recent update.  Fortunatly, there was a "Roll Back Driver" option which I figured couldn't hurt anything.  After a reboot, the driver is back to one dated 2/13/2017 version  All mouse accoutrements are once again working. What prompted me to post today is that the Lenovo Vantage pop-up appeared again telling me there's an update and it wants to put the bad driver back. Irconically, the pop-up says: "Lenovo recommends that you install these updates to optimize your computer" Yah, right!  Now I'm sceptical about ever doing another update.

Okay, so I'm thinking of buying my cousin an older PC game for his birthday, but it's from 1994:

"Jazz Jackrabbit" (Original Release For PC DOS 3.5)

From what I've heard, Windows 7 has better backwards compatibility than Windows XP did, but I'm still concerned that after he unwraps his gift, and later tries to play the game on his computer (assuming his computer is Windows 7), he won't be able to. Will he likely still have problems getting the game to work on a Windows 7 computer, even if he tries to install the game directly from the original CD ROM?

Vega3,8,10 natively support HDMI 2.0b with HDR. But Lenovo write in psref for Ryzen series support only for HDMI 1.4b? Why? And how is this possible? After all, in order to get HDMI 1.4b from 2.0b, you need to unsolder a special chip converter from 2.0b hardware protocol in 1.4b(downgrade!). Which is absurd in essence. Moreover, customer reviews already confirm that versions with Ryzen give out [email protected] by HDMI, which on series with Intel UHD620 is not physically possible without soldering the LSPCON chip (by Intel datasheet for UHD620/630), but only in HDMI 2.0a (not log gamma data for HDR, as supported in 2.0b), which Lenovo does not soldered for the saving. But for what Lenovo writes lies in psref about HDMI 1.4b in versions with Ryzen , it is not clear to me, thus confusing buyers that thinking, then they will not be able to output movies in 4k with HDR and will not be able to connect 4k monitors @60Hz. Although all this will 100% work on Ryzen on HDMI, but 100% will not work on versions with Intel! It turns out that versions with Intel are flawed compared to versions of Ryzen. All Lenovo laptop options that do not officially have HDMI 2.0b and do not have DP1.2 support through, if this don't have a separate port for DP1.2(1.4 for HDR) or DP Alt Mode output via usb-c (DP1.2 and DP1.4 for Titan Ridge with TB3.0 support)...

Hello everyone. My HP computer, which had been originally a Windows XP, has been upgraded with Windows 7 as its new OS. Everything works fine except for one problem: the video card.

I believe my card is of the NVIDIA GeForce 7900 series, and it is a couple years old, about 2008. It can't be detected by Windows 7, and I've tried downloading drivers too, to no avail. I'd just get a message saying the system is not compatible. I'm pretty much assuming here that the card is too old to work with Windows 7. I'd really like to upgrade the video card, but my father doesn't want us to spend the money and wants us to find another way around it, to make this current card work.

But I'm just not sure how. If anyone has the slightest idea of what to do, I'd be so grateful.

Thank you.

Sounds like the card maybe faulty, all 7900 series are windows 7 compatible, As you can see from this page Windows 7 Compatibility for Nvidia 7900: Drivers, Updates, Downloads

I could only suggest testing the card in a different PC or maybe trying to manually install the drivers through device manager

Just bought an Inspiron 5759 from Dell Canada.
Touchpad is very squirrelly - move around and it randomly perceives a click hence starts moving or invoking stuff.  Try to click left or right button (bottom left or right of touchpad) and the cursor moves so I can click on wrong thing easily.  Looked for Touchpad settings under Control Panel Mouse.  Nothing there specific to touchpad - just generic mouse settings.  Looked in Device Manager - Mouse and Pointing Devices - see HIID compliant mouse and PS2 compatible mouse.   Driver for either is from Microsoft dated 2006.
Ok - load newest driver from dell.com.  Claims it installs ok - wrong.  The Dev Mgr shows same Microsoft drivers.  Manually force driver to Synaptics - Dell TouchPad.  Looks like it succeeds.  Now, Dev Mgr shows two mouse devices: Dell Touchpad and PS2 Compatible mouse.  Try control panel - Mouse.  Now I see a Dell Touchpad tab but the only field - Change Dell Touchpad settings - does nothing.

A:Inspiron and XPS laptops running Windows 10 cannot install Dell/Synaptics Touchpad driver

With Win 10, touchpad drivers are found in the Win 10 Settings, selected in the Start Menu. In addition, many newer laptops are using a Precision touchpad, a Microsoft inspired pad. The driver is incorporated in Windows itself, and a regular driver will not work. This is why you don't see anything in the "old" Windows Control Panel app or in the Device Manager.

Ok, i just posted something on another thread saying i would recommend certain programs to a user upon their asking for "can anyone tell me a good..." or "can anyone tell me a program to ..." or "what antivirus should i have for an operating system of ..." and that i would probably recommend the same software whatever they said their OS was. But this got me thinking, does windows 10 work with software that runs on windows xp, vista, 7, 8 or 8.1 ? Amongst those of you who have gone and tested out windows 10, were you able to use installers for it that worked on older windows versions. Because I would think very few software developers have yet made versions of their programs for windows 10 so when i recommend a program to a user, if thye are running windows 10 could thye go and download it just like an xp, vista, 7, 8 or 8.1 user would. Has anyone yet tried running, on a computer with windows 10, an installer exe file for any desktop program they can think of which they first ran on a machine with an older windows operating system. Has windows made a big change in how software works with this latest operating system? If a user asked me "how can i..." and i recommended program to them for which the only options they could download was an installer for xp, vista, 7, 8 and 8.1 would they be able to install it on windows 10?
I personally am never going anywhere near windows 10 but some day i guess that there will be a sizeable proportion of users on here with it, will all my reco... Read more

A:Would software recommendations made for older OS s still work for windows 10

I haven't tested Windows 10, too big of a download to justify the bandwidth right now. I'm interested to see what people have found does or does not work. I know with Windows 8 there were issues with some Windows 7 programs not working; devs had to quickly release new versions that fixed the issues. I'm sure there are going to be at least a few similar cases for Windows 10, especially for older software that was built for XP or Vista.

I have a set of HP Z210 Workstations with E3-1245-V2 Xeon Cpu's, SSD boot drives and varying sizes of memory from 8-16GB 1600Mghz DDR3 ECC. We use Windows 8 Enterprise for these machines, with Hyper-V enabled.
We get regular driver failures from the 2 sets of USB controllers on the machines (Mainly and issue for the KB & Mouse) that can only be resolved with a full power down (not restart) and a power up. This happens at least once every 1-3 days per machine.
I had gone through the HP support, but they have advised this isn't an issue on their side, and I had agreed all along. I was just hoping to get some traction by notifying them. Anyway, after a lengthy trouble shooting session, we found that once Hyper-V
was enabled, the fault arose.
As it was an Intel chip, they I asked them. They advised that on Windows 8, the drivers are supplied via windows update and that it was not their issue.
So, how can I get this resolved? Not through HP or Intel, surely through MS? Maybe not. Disabling Hyper-V is not desired as I the teams with these PC's are developers and require local visualization. Also, we have templates ready for Hyper-V, I don't really
want to remove Hyper-V and use Virtual box or VMWare workstation. but I am at wits end with the fault and lack of help from the vendors.
Please help.

A:Hyper-V causes Intel(R) Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller driver to fail

I have found a work around for this fault with the USB failure - ENSURE YOU POWER  THE MACHINE OFF - DO NOT RESTART.
Its almost like the restart doesn't initialise the device correct, thus causing a failure.

I have a dimension 2350 that I have updated to Windows 7.  I was told that I could use a Vista video driver run in compatability mode to get out of the vga basic 800 x 600. I have not found one yet...can anyone help.  I don't have a video card...it is onboard..

A:Older Dell needs video driver for Vista/windows 7

Have you gone to the Dell web site, put in your service tag, and looked there?  That would be the first place to look.  If you can't get one there, you could try driverguide.com.  If neither of these works, you could always buy a cheap video card and use that.
Good luck.

I have regualrly run a System Update for my computer via Lenovo Companion and I've managed to have all updates successfully completed - all except for one. Lately, I have runs of Updates where I encounter an update for Synaptic UltraNav Driver, run it, but comes up as being unable to download and install - in spite of a successful initial download. Since its encounter a couple of weeks ago, I have been unsuccessful in fully downloading and installing this specific Driver for my computer. Is there any indication of issues for this Drive? And what should I do to resolve it? Also, if the Driver can't be properly updated, what is its purpose for my system? Any form of help concerning this Driver update issue would be appreciated.

I recently updated my Intel HD to 7/3/2012, the only problem I seem to have is that windows update keeps bugging me to install a older 2010 version, why is it doing that and should I just ignore it.

A:windows update keeps offering older video card driver

Hello Raymond,

If you are sure that you have the correct and latest driver for that device installed, then you could just hide the update to not see it anymore until the next new (cough) one is released.

Hope this helps,

A:HP PSC 1510 All-in-One Printer series doesn't work with windows 7

Is your language Spanish? I have found that in English website there are Windows Vista drivers and updates can be downloaded. Currently almost all the latest HP drivers are for Windows Vista. You may try the drivers to check if they could work properly in Windows 7 RC.

You may install it in Windows Vista compatible mode. If it does not work, we may need to wait for new compatible drivers. Meantime, you may install the printing driver for it in Devices and Printers.
1. Open Devices and Printers.2. Click Add a printer.3. Choose an existing LPT port, click Next. 4. Find the driver for HP PSC 1500 series. Click Next. If the driver is not found, click the button Windows Update, wait for it finishes and try to find again.5. Finish the installation with instructions.

I am using a Lenovo ThinkCentre, and recently I had this problem when I acess 'Mouse' in Control Panel, and it comes up with an error saying 'Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' I press OK, then it goes to the Mouse Properties. But I think this is affecting the SetPoint settings for my Logitech Performance MX mouse that I am accessing through the mouse properties. How can I fix this?
