I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

So I noticed a while ago that my PC had been running much slower than usual so to resolve the issue i wanted to reinstall windows and start fresh.
I put the Windows XP reinstallation CD into my PC, deleted the partition with my existing windows on and then created a new partition and install Windows XP to that partition. The installation went fine, installed the driver for my Graphics Card and then went on to try and connect to the internet via my ethernet cable that has always been plugged into my PC. However upon trying to connect to the internet i found that i couldn't connect to the internet at all. I tried numerous things and on my "Network Connections" part of the control panel I have 3 things showing up.
1) Under the subheading "Connection Manager" i have "MSN" which is "Unavailable"
2) Under the subheading "Internet Gateway" i have "Internet Connection" which is "Connected"
3) Under the subheading "LAN or High-Speed Internet" i have "Local Area Connection" which is "Connected, Firewalled"

If anyone has any idea how i can get my PC connected to the internet that would be great ( I'm from the UK by the way)

A:Reinstalled Windows XP and can't connect to internet via Ethernet

BEFORE you do a clean reinstall of Windows XP in your computer, you should identify its necessary devices(chipset, graphics, audio, ethernet, wireless, etc.) and obtain the drivers for those devices. You obviously didn't do that.

You should also make sure Windows XP is up-to-date BEFORE you start installing a bunch of programs in your computer.

Have you read my Windows XP install guide in this section?

At this point, we have no description of your computer and what devices are in it. Is it a factory brand one or is it a custom/home made one? If it's a factory brand one, advise what brand name and model name and model number it is. If it's a custom/home made one, advise the brand name and model number of its motherboard or provide the website link to it.

Hello.

Yesterday I got my old desktop computer (9-12 y.o.) running again. I checked it out, and everything seemed to be working - including the various internet connections. But then I erased the harddrive and reinstalled the OS succesfully. Nothing went wrong, but now I can't connect to the internet. I spent approx. 10 hours searching the web - including this forum - for a solution, and found many, but none of them seem to be working for me.

It seems like all drivers are properly installed - my network card is a Realtek RTL9138/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC, and since it worked before, it should work now. I installed the drivers with the "Drivers and Utilities" disc that came along, and it should be enough, shouldn't it?

- I also have a ZyXEL Wireless Adapter, which does not seem to be anywhere to find, even though I installed it as well (at least I think I did). The message I get time and time again is: "No network cable connected" (translated from Danish).

If you have any ideas whatsoever, I will be (and I'm not exaggerating) eternally grateful. I am very frustrated indeed.

I am going to school tomororw and needed this off my computer. So I decided to wipe the hard drive clean with the Dell CDs that came with this purchase. I downloaded Windows XP and some of the drivers. Some of the drivers that i tried to download say they downloaded but then do not come up. Broadcom440x10/100 is saying the network cable is unplugged, I have no idea what that means and internet will not work. What can I do manually to make this work?

I posted earlier for my bf but didn't get a response and now his situation is even worse. Instead of waiting until I got there he rushed into doing everything himself. He had a bad virus, kept him from opening any applications or getting on the internet. Then he started deleting things, which finally stopped his computer from running and would get the error there were missing files. So he got a Wins XP disk from someone else to reinstall windows, again rushed into it, instead of waiting so we could use my laptop to get online and get the proper info on how to reinstall. So to make a long story short, he reinstalled it on his own, lost all his documents, photos, etc. on his computer as well as his drivers. He has no original disks for this computer, and now he can't get on the internet, I guess because that driver is missing too. So my question is, can he use a disk with drivers on it from someone else's computer? Or does he need the one's for his particular computer, which the original owner does not have. Not sure where he should go with this, besides taking it somewhere and having them fix it for several $100.

Hi all,

I am having a huge problem that needs to get fixed asap as I have classes starting tuesday (2 days from now) and I will need my own computer to be back and running so I don't fail miserably in school, so here's my dilemma.

My sister had downloaded a trojan by accident virtumonde.prx like 2 weeks ago and today my computer wouldnt boot to windows at all so I had to reinstall everything, that went all fine and smooth up until the part where I tried to connect to the wireless internet (password protected) here at home.

The big problem is, I try to connect and the password for our router is 15 digits long and when i try to enter a password for the windows xp network for it, it says it can only be 10 digits or 13 digits, hexidecimal and some ascii thing i think.

I don't think it even has sp1 or 2 as its not listed under the add/remove programs section and I do not have a spare usb hard drive or flash drive on hand big enough to download one on another computer to transfer to mine.

Is there anyway that I can connect to my password protected network? maybe I am doing something wrong or maybe I need to have the service packs or something?

Please help me asap as my college classes are starting soon and I am just very stressed out not knowing how I can take my online classes without being online!!

Thanks in advance,

Rob

I will be monitoring this thread every few minutes in the hopes that you computer savvy folks can save me!

Thanks again

A:Reinstalled Windows XP Pro and can not connect to wireless router/network/internet

Are you sure you are trying to connect to your router and not another one . . the router should tell the network adaptor what level of protection it is using.

Have you installed the newest driver for the network adaptor?

Right click on My Computer and select properties . . it will tell you the SP level.

You may have to update to SP3 to get wireless networking right:

If you have no service packs, you will have to install SP1a first

You can download SP1 here and install on the other pc:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Then you can go straight to SP3:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

( ignore the warnings about being only for network admins )

See if your wireless works ok then

Hello!

After having trouble with the Win32 heur or W32.sality virus I lost my patient and Completly reinstalled Windows XP Media center edition...

I had bought my PC from packard bell and had support, cd-backup + instructions and everything registered to packard bell, My PC Was A Packard Bell.
Then later my motherboard got trouble and crashed alot... So I eventually bought a new one.

When my pc got the virus I wanted to use the CD-backup I had taken from the pc before the motherboard was changed and also had the support of packard bell.
But the CD did not boot because "information was not valid" and I couldn't use it to reformat and reinstall my Windows XP MC edition.

So I used my student version of the CD, my other cd that would install windows media center edition and also the key for that cd.
I formated everything and left no partition so that superdangerous-virus would die.

After the installation I have no more internet connection and missing drivers installed. I can't update windows because it requires internet which I don't have on that PC. I also no longer seem to have packard bell support.

How can I get those drivers installed on my pc? I have no clue what about the names :( :( :(

I was really tired when I wrote this, hope you understand.

Every post and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, on my main PC I have recently reinstalled XP in order to solve a number of bugs that I couldn't clean up.

It seems to have installed okay but I can no longer connect to the Internet. When I go to network connections the connection 'appears' to be there, but when I look at specific detail such as IP address the windows are blank.

If I right-click on the connection there is an option to repair, but when I try this I get the following message:-

Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot proceed. For assistance, contact the person who manages your network.

I have phoned my ISP but when I couldn't give them an IP address they were unable to help me.

Does anybody know how I can get this connection working again?

Some details:-
Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2
Internet Explorer 6.0

Please let me know if any other information would help.

Many thanks!!!

A:Reinstalled XP but can't connect to the internet

Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In the Device Manager, is there a yellow mark next to the Network Adapter? If so then you need to download the driver from the computer manufacturers support web site. If there are no yellow marks then go to Start/Run and type CMD in the command prompt type ipconfig /release and hit enter, then type ipconfig /flushdns and hit enter. Now type ipconfig /renew you should have a new IP address.

After finishing and loading up windows I have no drivers so no connection to any peripherals

Because the USB driver is gone.

Please help!! What do I do

A:Reinstalled windows. No drivers

Follow the steps in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Put your network adapter driver form the Asus Support Downloads webpage on CD or stick to install it to connect to network. http://support.asus.com/Download.asp...=U36SD&p=3&os=

Then immediately enable Device Installation Settings Option 3, run all rounds of Important and Optional Windows Updates to completion.

If wireless driver gives problems installing then use the ethernet cable which will probably load its own driver if you've enabled Option 3 in link above, otherwise import it from same page.

Windows Updates should provide most all of the drivers. After required reboots, go right back to Check for Updates again until there are no more. You can then import any still missing in Device Manager from the same Asus webpage.

I have just reinstalled Windows XP, and now I can't get on the Internet.
( I use Net Zero Dial Up for $9.95 / Month)

When I try to install the software for Net Zero, it tells me that it Can't Detect the Modem.

In the Device Manager, I see some things with a Yellow?! which are:

Ethernet Controller
Multimedia Audio Controller
PCI Input Device
PCI Modem
SM Bus Controller
Video Controller (VGA Compat.)

I would like to get the Modem to work, and then allow the internt to automatically choose and install the rest of the drivers.

So, I guess I have to find the Driver for a Dell Dimension 2400 Modem. It had a Pentium 4, and 512GB or Ram.

Can I download it on a Flash? and then Choose the Options in the Device Manager- Install From a Specific Location/ Don't Search I will choose the Driver to Install.?

Any help as to choosing a Driver and Some instruction on Installing it would be Greatly Appreciated. I think I could download it Possibly a Flash or CD if necessary.

Then do I click on the Device (Modem) in the Device Manager>Install From a Sprecific Location>Don't Install Automatically, I will choose the Driver to Install.

I see some things in the list under drivers In the Device Manager for Drivers to Choose from, but I'm not sure if there is one there for me. I did choose one that was V90 and I let it download all night and it was still loading in the morning, so I don't think it was working?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi,

I was having some freezing/BSOD problem with a certain very important program and I ended up reinstalling windows. I did so from a USB flashdisk but after windows was installed a lot of drivers seem to be missing. The laptop is a custom build and I don't have the cd with all the drivers since the disk is still at home, which is across the Atlantic Ocean so getting that isn't an option either.

The most important driver that seems to be missing as far as I can tell at the moment is the network adapter driver. Device Manager isn't recognizing the following devices:
- Ethernet Controller
- Network Controller
- PCI Device
- SM Bus Controller
- USB Controller

Windows Update isn't finding any drivers for those devices and I can't download them manually either since I don't know what I need to be looking for.

Any help is greatly appreciated since I've already been 2 days out of commission with the previous BSOD problem before I reinstalled windows. Let me know if you need me to supply any other information.

Thank You.

Axel

I saw in another thread it was asked to upload a dxdiag file so I attached that.

Your Ethernet controller is from Realtek. Go to the Realtek support site and download the Communication Network->NIC controller Gigabit driver suitable for your OS to a flash drive. Then install from flash

My OS recently crashed (config corrupt or missing) and I was unable to fix it with the standard copy / repair instructions since the windows\repair\system file was missing. Recovery panel was of no help. And when I attempted to do an in-place installation, but it kept hanging when it got to the 35 minute mark. I deleted antivirus software and attempted again, to no avail. During the hanging, I was able to use f10 to get to a dos prompt, which allowed me to launch the files and settings transfer wizard. I copied everything I thought was important to a newly purchased hard drive.

One I had copied everything I possibly thought I could need, I did a new install. I was able to load Microsoft Office without any issues, and able to load AOL and connect using a dial up connection. When I attempted to set up the Verizon DSL, I ran into problems. When I use control panel to go to Network Connections - there isn't anything there. Completely empty. Verizon told me to call Dell and ask them to reinstall the nic card / ethernet connection. I also noticed that I do not have sound on the computer anymore. When on the phone with Dell I discovered they had not included the "driver and utility delldimension resource cd" when the shipped it to me, and it's no longer available.

Do you know what drivers I need to download from Dell's site and how to set up the network connections so that I can get DSL working?

How about for sound? I've only had the new OS up and r... Read more

Even though the CD is not available, you might try going to Dell's site to download the drivers.

Another possibility is to find out the manufacturer of the sound card and network card and download from their site.

Hi I bought this roughly a year ago

PB Tech - NBKLEN1252535B : LENOVO IdeaPad G570 Sandy Bridge i5-2410M 2.3GHz 8GB (4Gx2) DDR3 640GB 15.6" ATI HD6370M 1G DEDICATED VGA BT2.1 2.0MP HD Webcam 802.11n DVDRW HDMI Win7 Home Premium 64bit 6Cell

I re-installed Windows 7 Home Premium yesterday and discovered I lost all my drivers and device management/disk management/computer manage etc shows no manufacturers name for each driver needed.

Could someone tell me which drivers I need for my laptop to be running as good or as close to new as possible by what's just listed on the website?

Note- I don't even have ethernet card driver!

Thanks for anyone who can help and have a good day, enjoy

I recently had to reinstall windows xp using a repair disc not the windows xp disc and it worked fine. Except that some drivers didn't install with it. I was able to download what I needed for my NVIDIA graphics card. But my Sm Bus Controller still pops up as a "?" in hard wear manager and my Multimedia Audio Controller with a "!" .

I have tried going into my control panel and updating the device driver and reinstalling it but it finds nothing what can I do. Please help.

A:Reinstalled windows xp. Drivers didn't come with it.

Welcome to TSF....

Since windows was re-installed the thing that has to be done is to install all of the special drivers like chipset, buss, network, audio, video and others, they can be installed in any order you wish and can be found on the system recovery disk set for the computer if it is an OEM like Compaq, Dell etc. or if you do not have a recovery disk set the drivers can be found on the manufacturers web site for either the motherboard or the manufacturer of the computers web site. You can download these drivers and burn to a CD-R and then install those following instructions to reboot when asked.

I completely formatted my computer to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, I put in the correct product key and then when I attempted to connect to the internet I couldn't because I don't have the correct drivers.
Back when I used to use Windows XP I put a little CD in and then installed the drivers from Device Manager but now with Windows 7, I put the CD in and I can't install the drivers. They show up with a tiny symbol with a yellow exclamation mark on it (it was like this too back when I used XP, but I had no problems then,). Does anyone know what I can do?
The uninstalled drivers are these:
Base System Device
Base System Device
Ethernet Controller
Network Controller
SM Bus Controller

I'm stumped here, any help would be greatly appreciated. When I right click and click "Update Drivers" it says there are no updates.

Okay, so I've reinstalled XP and things are running smoothly now, except...

In my device manager, under "other devices" they all have a yellow ? next to them: the video, audio (no, can't hear anything other than that annoying, "bonk" sound ), ethernet, network, etc. I can't get online to download a driver (I'm at a friend's house now), so I'm trying to find what I need and burn it to disc so I can install it on my lappy (Dell, Inspiron B130 ) and get online again. I'm sure from there, I can go to the dell website and get the sound and what not fixed up, but since I can't get online, and I'm not sure what I'm looking for (there's a driver update on dell.com... is that it? Here's the link. ) I'm really having a "throw it out the window" moment here. Can anybody help me? Many thanks in advance

Oh, btw, I have cable broadband internet service (when I called them, they said my 'puter wasn't showing up, and to contact dell for a driver from the network card. Dell said, "That's $150 please" ), with a ethernet line to the router. Does that make sense?

I scavenged parts (including the hard drive) from an old Dell XPS to build my current computer. I had to reinstall Windows XP the other day, and now when I try to install drivers from the drivers and utilities CD, I get an error saying "Setup is unable to recognize this computer as a Dell computer and will now exit". Where else can I get these drivers?

Hello everybody, I am a new user here!
Today my computer experienced the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH! I cannot repair because the recovery partition was deleted -_-" As my last resort, I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition. The installation was a success but when I booted it for the first time, there were drivers missing or not installed. There was no internet so I cannot activate my WinXP, no sound, USB ports cannot read my usb but for some reason my USB Mouse works fine, also there is no firewall installed either. When I got my computer, it came with Windows Vista pre-installed so I do not have the disk, I also do not have any disk that contain the files for my drivers. I went to the HP website support page and went to this link (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3458416&lang=en&) but there is only one useless driver for Windows XP! I tried to copy the drivers for Windows Vista but of course.. that failed. My question for you guys is: Where can I get the drivers for my computer?

Computer Specs: HP Pavilion s3127c
Windows XP Home Edition'
No Drivers..
NVidia Geforce 6150 LE
Connecting to the internet wirelessly

I would love to thank you guys in advance.. so THANKS!

Hi, my Samsung Notebook 300E5A wouldn't boot, and no recovery options were working, and I hadn't made a recovery disk, so I reinstalled Windows 7 from a USB drive.

Now 4 drivers are missing:

Ethernet controller
Network controller
PCI Simple Communications controller
SM Bus Controller.

How do I go about acquiring or installing these?

Thanks for your help,

Andrew

Does Windows 7 have it's own drivers for graphics cards? I have the GTX 285 and I just re installed Windows 7 , the Home Edition, but I didn't install the graphics drivers for my EVGA GTX 285 just yet. Strangly I am able to play Armed Assault 2. I wonder if since lately I have been playing ArmA2 and the graphics , according to others, should be brilliant, yet they seem kinda shabby. I wonder if the card is even using the drivers I installed before or just some other drivers. can anyone explain this?

After the fresh install, will boot, but in the System, Hardware Device Mgr, Numerous yellow question marks. They are:
Multimedia Audio Controller
OtherPCI Bridge Device
PCI Memory Controller
SM Bus Controller

I can get rid of them by installing the drivers on the CD which came w/ the MoBo, but it says have to reboot to take effect. When I do,
New MoBo & CPU & video card & mem, so reformatted HD & did complete reinstall. When I reboot, a blue screen pops up before windows loads. It is gone so fast, I cannot read it. The only way can load windows is "Last good config..." Can't even load safe mode.

If I load the drivers & do not reboot, everything appears normal & everthying works. This is the only way I can access internet via Network Interface Card.

There is a note in FAQ's for this MoBo "Why will the system hang or fail to boot after installed the SW IDE Driver when using a dual core CPU under Window XP/2000? " which has updated drivers, which I loaded even though not dual core.

The XP Home I have is pre-SP1, so did slipstream including SP2. Thanks BYTEMAN for pointing me to website w/ info on how to do this.

I've done validation by internet & by telephone to Microsoft & tried reinstall several times.

I have seen no message indicating win is not validated or not working except the reboot not working. Is there any way to find out if XP is fully validated & should be working? Anything else I can look ... Read more

If no ideas on this, does anyone know how to slow the boot process so I can see what is on the blue screen that flashes just before the win logo that kicks it out to the safe mode, last good config, etc screen?
