I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

At work we use proxy to get on the Internet. When I use my work laptop at home, I am connected to the Internet (emails come through) but IE7 cannot display webpage. I tried unticking "use proxy", ticking "detect setting automatically" and it still would not work. Sometimes, it will work if I shut down and restart the machine. My older laptop has never given me this problem.

Hope somebody can help with this.

Thanks

My computer (OS Windows XP Home) has been running rather slow and recently I have not been able to access any internet sites. I have successfully connected to more than one wireless network and had 100% signal strength. When opening internet explorer, my preset homepage has disappeared and internet explorer is attempting to connect to errordns.com in the lower left corner of the window. The address bar remains blank. The explorer window then continues to constantly connect to errordns.com as if I were clicking Go on the right side of the address bar numerous times and overwhelming internet explorer. I am not able to access anything else which requires an internet connection, such as limewire or my AIM icon. I have attempted to change my homepage address in the internet connections options but the same repeating connection to errordns.com occurs. I do not have an up-to-date antivirus system currently. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

When I open a Facebook page from Thunderbird Mail, some videos have the usual "triangle" to click on (these are OK) and there are other videos that have a "flashing three lines", these I cannot open.

The other problem is a black bar at the top of the open Facebook page. Again, this page is opened from Thunderbird Mail. At the top of the black bar the menu bar from Firefox is showing up in grey type color.

I hope the above info is enough for one of you guys to put me on the right track to fix these irritating issues.

I am running on Win 8.1 on a Dell PC. It is about 18 months old and to date I have had very few problems.

As far as I can determine, we had a power failure, the PC shut down (normal) and these issues were observed after bringing the machine back on line. I also had an issue with Adobe Flash in Firefox. However i seem to have corrected that issue.

Please help this old bloke from the UK

Following a shut down caused by a power outage it is not impossible that some things have got corrupted.

I would be inclined to (1) back-up my contacts, then (2) uninstall both Firefox and Thundrbird, then(3) re-install them, followed by re-instating my contact list if necessary.

Hi

We have a site which contains a csv export file. We know this site works fine - it does for all other users and has done for ages. When you click the link, you get the usual 'open' or 'save' dialog box. However we have one user, who receives an error when clicking on 'open'. (see attached image). Microsft Excel has already loaded up in the background.
It may be worth mentioning that this is on an https site.

I noticed this is the same problem as found at: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f56/...e6-336294.html

Has anyone got any thoughts/suggestions?

I have a suspicion about this, that if I'm right, you're not going to like very much.

Please go to: VirusTotal
At the top of the page you'll find a "Browse" button. Click the "Browse" button and browse to the gmer.exe

Click "Open".
Then click the "Send" button at the top of the VirusTotal page.
This will scan the file. Please be patient.
Once scanned, copy and paste the results in your next reply, or simply provide the link to the scan results.

Hello,

I have some kind of virus or malware I believe. I can not open programs such as McAfee or Malware Bytes Anti-Malware. In addition, IE does not always open for me. Sometimes I will hear audio from random advertisements when nothing is opened.

This occured not too long after a windows update which included a newer version of IE. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the problem.

I went through the instructions and tried downlading and opening GMER from both sources however was unable to open the program and run it. Please adivse. The other logs are below.

Ok, what in the world is going on with this? First off, I'm at THIS webpage because I had two IE windows open already. Not too long ago I attempted to open up a third, and I can't do it.

Every time I try to do so I get the error message that I put in this threads title. What can I do to resolve this?

I just found out another detail for you.

In the IE windows that are already open, when I click on a link that opens a new window on it's on...it works.

The only problem is when I try to manually open a new one myself. So, right now, I'm rather afraid to close all of the IE windows currently open and to restart my computer.

I have access to a friend's laptop that has been misbehaving for about a week now. I disabled it's internet access and I'm using my desktop to work through it.

Initially, it would not open up Google Chrome (the clicks would do nothing and no process would be started in Task Manager). The only browser that wprked was IE but VERY slowy. After attempting to install Firefox, which was also unresponsive (the install that is), I edited the filename name which then allowed the install to begin but prevented it from completing.

It cannot be rolled back to a previous restore points as the calendar is not visible beyond the past week.

I ran a safe mode scan with ESET Smart Security last night and upon reboot I discovered that it does not enable real-time protection as it should (it needs manually activating each time), however, I could get Firefox to finish it's install and open up a page.

It also stops the laptop from accessing the following addresses:

esero86.ru/index/src.php
esero86.ru/index/32.bin

from the IP address:

91.206.201.43.80

The GMER scan initiates but either forces a reboot (once, the layout of the taskbar changed to what you would see in safe mode) or causes a fatal system error (the blue screen) so I cannot run the scan - I have tried SEVERAL times. The ark text therefore only contains the initial scan.

It is currently disabled from internet access and I am transfering the logs via USB to the desktop I am using. I do not have access to a Win... Read more

Hi everybody

I picked up some nasty malware. AVG was updating and suddenly everything just fell apart.

I can't run any installation programs regardless of the extension or name. I've tried to install Rkill and MalwareBytes with absolutely no luck. It defaults to needing to be unblocked in the properties and no matter what compatibility mode I use it will not run. I get a 1084 error when I try to open the security center. In the taskbar I have an Action Center alert that says 1 Important Message and 3 Total Messages. The Action Center will not open at all. I do not have access to a USB key as I am not home, but I will be Tuesday evening. Any help would be infinitely appreciated.

Other notes I forgot: I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, and I am constantly getting errors that Windows can't load and needs to be repaired. It runs and restarts, sometimes being repaired and other times not.

Thanks a lot
Jared

A:Action center won't open, Internel Explorer only browser that will open, no MalwareBytes and RKill will not open

An update.

I've tried running MalwareBytes and RKill from a flash drive which is also not working. Windows also ends up unable to load, the startup repair runs and things work fine. Not long after Windows tries to update and then it becomes unable to load again and the startup repair runs again.

I tried running a registry fix for the .exe problem and I get an error stating that the registry is being used even when no programs are running and I am in safe mode.

Hope this information helps
thanks
Jared

I got the nasty Open Cloud Security rogue anti-virus software. Popped up while I was out of the room so I wasn't able to do an immediate hard shut down in time. By the time I got back, a few minutes later, it had sunk its tentacles in pretty deeply. It has disabled my Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, my AVG anti-virus, and system restore, even in safe mode. When I try to run MBAM or GMER I got a notification that says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." Again, this occurs even in Safe Mode (with networking). I've also got Google re-direct going on. I manually deleted what I could of the virus and that seemed to slow it down considerably, but it's still in there somewhere. Here is my DDS log:

I'm following the directions to try to remove the Open Cloud AV trojan. I get all the way up through getting MBAM updated and starting the scan, but the scan stops and the program terminates a few seconds into it. It doesn't show up in running programs or processes when I CTRL+ALT+DEL. When I click the shortcut to start it again, I get windows error: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I tried restoring the computer to an earlier restore point - same issues. I got DDS to run (log pasted below), but GMER would not complete a scan - exact same symptoms and error message as described for MBAM.

I'm also having the Google re-direct symptoms (click on a search result and get sent somewhere else), so there must be more going on here.

Hey,
I scanned using Spybot,Adware, removed it all. Havent scanned for virsues yet but heres my log. Most of it looks harmless.
My computer runs good, except for the fact it doesnt open task manager, msconfig, or regedit. Otherwise, no problems with anything(cept IE) I use mozilla however, so i can scant using TrenMicro(which i used to love to do) Now I use Avast Anti Virus Scanner. Ill use that to scan. I like to keep it in tip top shape.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Download CWShredder and run it. Click on 'I Agree' button ... Read more

Hello All,

I manage the maintenance on a corporate jet. I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop running Vista. We use Microsoft Word 2007 for our maintenance log book, oldest maintenance entries to newest. I want WORD to open my logbook document on the last page of the document when I fire it up, not the first. Any ideas? My email address is [email protected].

Thanks, Greg Stultz

A:How can I get Word 2007 to open on the last page of a multi-page document?

The only way I know how to do this is using a macro. Open the document and press ALT + F11 to open the VBA editor. In the project explorer window on the left you will need to right click the object labeled "ThisDocument" and choose "View Code"

Paste the code below into the blank code window and save the document. You will need to adjust the macro security level to medium or low from the main Word window by clicking TOOLS --> MACRO --> SECURITY
Code:
Private Sub Document_Open()

Selection.EndKey Unit:=wdStory

End Sub
You can also accomplish the same action without using a macro by opening the document and clicking CTRL + END to take you to the last page.

Regards,
Rollin

I often right click in IE (I'm actually using Avant, a kind of IE mask I guess) and select Create Shortcut. It puts a shortcut and my desktop to that page. This mysteriously stopped working. The icon appears on my desktop with the page title and all, but when I double click it, it just opens up my browser and loads about:blank. In the shortcut file's properties, it just says:

Type: Internet Shortcut
Description: (the title of the page)

and then gives me the file's size, location, etc., but it doesn't list the URL anywhere. It's just getting on my nerves having to copy a page's URL to a text file on my desktop if I want to remind myself of something.

A:Simple but annoying. Web page shortcuts just open a blank IE page.

Sounds like you have been hijacked by about:blank. Go to this website that will help you remove it.

Hello, first thing, I am extremely new to this. This is my first time consulting personal online help.

I was hit by a string of fake security/anti-virus scams, or "scareware". Among them were "Desktop Security 2010" and "Program Compability Assistant". There was one more before Desktop Security 2010, but I forget the name and can't find it in my search history either, but I believe Malwarebytes took care of that and Desktop Security 2010.
Program Compability Assistant on the other hand, is still around, but not to a full extent which I will explain later. This thing disallows me to open any video files, claiming that I'm missing codecs and directs me to a presumed fake scam website.
Program Compability Assistant, note the spelling error, I discovered to be a recently new scareware as my searches for it on google kept insisting I had a spelling error of the legit program Program Compatibility Assistant and the ppl experiencing the same thing all posted about it in May. I've been continuously updating Malwarebytes, hoping to take care of it, but to no avail.
I then foolishly followed a guide for another person dealing w/ Program Compability Assistant (I regret this so much. I was unaware of the dangers of following someone else's problems and guides as outlined in this forum). hxxp://www.nucia.eu/forum/showthread.php?t=57431

I have an XPS 13 9350 running Windows 10 with Realtek audio.
When I insert headphones into the audio jack, the popup window asking to choose what type of device I inserted always appears behind all the open windows. It took me a while to figure this out. I thought the popup just wasn't working! But, it's consistent - and it always appears behind everything else - so it's the very last thing in the Alt-Tab list.
Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas how to fix this?

A:XPS 13 9350 Headphone jack popup goes behind all open windows

That type of thing has been happening on Win 10,8 and maybe 7.  It is strange it seems to do that but I don't know of a way for a user to change that behavior.
You should have had an icon on the taskbar, possibly flashing or a different color, to alert you to the situation.

In Vista it was easy to flip around from program to program. It would simply go to the last open page of that software.

So if I flicked from Word to Explorer, that was easy. Even if there were many pages open, the last one opened was on top.

But with 7 it seems that this no longer works.

I have to go to the Word icon in the Toolbar and then choose which page I want - which is a pain, as I want the last one I was on.

Can anyone help with this?
