Q: Solved: Printer Installation is a tool used to drive normal people INSANE!

I hope Rolling Rog is available as you helped me in my last fiasco!

When attempting to install another printer I uninstalled currently working printers. Now I cant get my other printers re-installed.

Help. I need to install my Canon Pixma MP450 and my Canon i560. I installed them myself before but now I feel like a moron. I did install them just the other day on my laptop so I know that the install cd's work and that the printers work but just not on my desktop.

I currently have an HP LaserJet6P on my desktop but alas, although it works, perhaps it is not installed correctly. I'm including a pic attachment of my device manager screen.

When I attempted to install the mp450 it does install all the icons and tool bar for printing but just doesn't seem to properly install the driver.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I usually resolve this type of issue via a Google search but I wasn't exactly sure how to phrase my question.

1. I have a Sandisk Ultra Fit thumb drive (recommend, by the by)
2. I had to reformat it as a bootable Windows Media Creation drive (so that I could install Windows on a laptop from it)
3. I now wish to restore the thumb drive back to 'normal' but in Windows there seems to be various format choices. I want the formatting that allows me to remove the drive from PC and plug into my TV (so that my TV can read the pictures, video, what have you)

And so what format should I reformat to is really my question? And if you know of a handy webpage that explains the process in Windows 10 please she URL and save yourself the bother of typing it out.

Thank you

A:Restore thumb drive from Windows Media Creation Tool to 'normal'

FAT32 and change the allocation size to default will be the most compatible

Okay. This may take a while to explain, and I apologize, but feel free to ask questions in the very likely case I leave something out.

I'm currently on a Windows Vista Home Basic laptop. It's a Dell Inspiron 1501, if that helps with anything. I've got a 45.8gb harddrive. About a week ago, I noticed that I kept getting warnings that my computer was low on space. I figured it was mainly because I had SO much music on here, and that it was taking up most of my harddrive. So, I synced most of it to my MP3 player and burned a few songs onto a CD, then deleted everything out of my music folder. As expected, my remaining space lept dramatically upward. However, shortly after that, I noticed I was down to hardly any space again. Confused, I deleted a few programs that I had on here. I had Realplayer, limewire, winamp, MSN messenger, and a few others that I can't remember, and I uninstalled all of them. I also went on a cleaning spree and burned several things onto CD and then deleted a large number of files that I didn't feel needed to be on the computer. Again, the space skyrocketed again.

That night, when I signed back on after being away for a few hours, I had an error from AVG free (The antivirus I use) that it couldn't update because I didn't have enough harddrive space. Confused at this (AVG updates are usually pretty tiny) I went to Computer and saw that I had ZERO bytes of space left. None. I then ran CCleaner (I use that weekly) and cleaned out roughly 50mb or so of sp... Read more

A:printer going absolutely insane

That is an extremely old version of HJT ... you need to download the latest (version 1.99)

The problem you describe indicates that the printer has corrupted drivers, or has "lost" it's driver or has the wrong driver.

Normal Drive letter vs Mounting a volume as an empty folder

I was wondering what the prime uses for a logical drive (just assigning it as the letter F: for example ) might be vs. Mounting the logical drive as an empty folder that supports drive paths?

And why someone would want to use one option vs. the latter? (common uses).

thanks for any ideas.

hello everyone!

I just signed up because I need some serious help, im goin crazy with my problem.

Well to start, I have a 'Easyshare printer dock 6000' hooked up to my computer via usb.
I havn't use it in a long time, and I tried to transfer some images from my camera to my computer earlier today. But I got a message saying USB device not recognized, and it wouldn't connect.
Then I tried to manually install it from the the control panel by 'add new hardware', and it just tells me that its working fine. Oh and it won't let me print from the computer either, even tho it gives me the option to.....it just tells me 'error printing'

now if i just put the camera on the dock, and use the buttons to print that works fine, i can do that.....the main problem is the computer not recognizing it.

The only software that came with it is 'kodak easyshare software' and i don't think that has anything to do with it really.....

I'd appreciate any help, this is drivin me crazy< I don't know how to fix it.

I have a wireless network connection to my laptop which is connected to my printer. I previously installed the printer and it was working with no problems.

I recently went to print and realised that the network printer wasn't installed any more. My computer recognises the network laptop and printer but when I go to install the printer the dialog box just hangs and the 'not responding' message comes up.

I suspect this maybe because I disabled a number of services (from services.msc) that were recommended on a Vista tweaking site. Maybe I disabled one that allows drivers to be installed. Not sure which one if this is the case.

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks.

I have a new Windows 7 Professional 64-bit computer. I also have a Samsung SCX-4100 printer, which worked fine on two different previous computers, one running Vista and the other running Windows 7 (x32). When I updated to the 64-bit computer, and loaded the Samsung x64 driver, the printer appears installed, but will not print at all. It is listed on all my programs and, when told to print, the printer icon appears in the lower task bar, but no documents show up in the queue, and the printer does not print anything.

The only printing it did was, upon installation, it printed out the test page correctly. I have used various Windows troubleshooters, I have removed and reinstalled the printer several times, and nothing has changed. I tried to re-configure the USB port to which the printer is connected, but I received this statement each time: "an error occurred during port configuration" and thus I cannot attempt to re-configure the port.

I even tried to install a totally different printer, this one from Canon. Still, even after following everything listed, I still cannot print from either printer using Windows 7 x64. And again, when I try to configure the USB Port, either with the Samsung printer or the Canon one, I continue to get the message "An error occurred during print configuration. This operation is not supported."

A:Solved: Printer Installation Problem

For anyone who may have followed this thread, after endless searching, and multiple experiments, I found a fix on another website:

In Regedit navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Policies > Microsoft > Windows NT > Printers.
Right-click the Printers folder, then select Delete to remove it.
Restart the computer.

This was the only thing that worked to enable the printers to work on my 64-bit machine.

Please kindly help to get the printer installed in that pc since it will be a great pain for me to backup ,format and reload the pc

N.B: Past two days I googled and applied the registry tweaks but there is no effect

Thanks in advance

A:Solved: installation of printer fails!

Are the other printers in the domain running Windows XP SP3 as well??

What "registry tweaks did you apply"?

Are you familiar with running chkdsk to verify there is not a problem with bad sectors, lost clusters, cross-linked files, and directory errors? Its possible that, one or more of those could be the culprit.

If the problem still exists, it's possible that an XP "repair install" could fix the problem without you losing any files, profiles, preferences etc. That may be your best option as far as saving time is concerned if all else fails.

I formerly used the Brother AIO MFC 3240C printer on a Windows XP Pro machine and now with this new Compaq with preinstalled Windows 7, I can't install and use it--even with my Brother CD for the software. The printer appears to be compatible with Win 7 but the CD fails to install the printer. I keep getting a message that updated drivers may be needed and that Win 7 Windows Update should install the necessary drivers. Not so or least I haven't seen them in any Windows Updates.
I was using a Brother HL 2040 but decided I wanted to resume using the Brother AIO printer so that I could scan and use the copy features. Anyone using this same setup on a Windows 7 OS machine?
And as luck would have it, one color ink cartridge is empty and since I don't print in color would that have a bearing on anything? Would this cause the printer to not print anything? I only print in B&W. As usual, TIA and I hope you can follow what I tried to convey.

I recently purchased a new computer with Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit). I have been unable to install the printer software for my HP Photosmart Plus B209 printer. I was able to install the basic drivers for the printer but not the full printer software package. Hi..... So!!! About a month ago I was geekin out and at the end of the night I went save my game and my system froze up. I had to hardboot it to shut it off. The damn thing WAS working fine! So the next morning I went to turn it on and it requested safe mode but the only thing it would do was reboot itself over and over. So I did like six full recoverys and I discovered no matter what I did, all my updates would fail. So I bought a can of air and opened the machine up and cleaned it up... now my fan died. So I changed out the power supply (voltage3 was the the same) with an older PC and got my fan back... (minus a couple smaller wires going from my power supply to my motherboard!) and Voila! ALMOST everything works!!! At least its doing the same thing it was doing before (plus a couple other things.) My disc drives work and so on.... But I had to update my computer manually from various sites to get it to this point. I got all my software back on here now, minus some updates, but I cant open my automatic updates... add or remove programs... and windows or microsoft updates dont open at all.... my network connection is fine but anything I need to open for my updates is all screwy!!! When I hooked it all back up I could access these files and sites but the more I get it updated, the less things I can do... So I formatted my harddrive again and the same thing!!! Ultimately!!! I need to bring it in for work Or I need a new tower with gaming specs but for now its this or an eleve... Read more

The guys who sold it to me wont help me even though they said they would... told me to bring it in so they could run a diagnostics test. Ask how to do that but got negativity. So now I just looking for a video on hooking stuff up. OR SOMETHING!!! Then I have "other" issues to deal with later which are more "XP" related...I started with one problem, now, I have three!!! Since upgrading to SP 2, we have both been having all kinds of problems with a SINGLE website. Unfortunately it is one I enjoy a great deal. Newyorktimes.com. The nature of the problem is incredibly frustrating. The front page will load 8 out of 10 times. When I click on an article link, however, it will probably load 4 of 10 times. The real kicker is, after reading one page of an article, I can never get to the later pages. It's like having the front page of every section and nothing else.

My initial thought was a browser issue. So I added the site to my trusted sites list, with no luck. Then I turned down my security settings on all sites, since IE was still seeing it as a "Mixed" or regular "Internet" site for some reason. Still nothing. Then I tried turning off Windows Firewall altogether. After all, I never had these problems before SP 2, so it was probably the firewall right? Wrong.

I did have a somewhat similar problem once with the site www.lexmark.com, but for no explainable reason, when I switched the wireless cards between the machines, it started working on both of them (even after I switched back.) A couple of weeks ago, we started seeing this Just in Time debugger pop up window urging me to use this "new instance of MS Script Editor" to debug. So, there's that issue.

Secondly, at the same time, I started having issues when selecting a website from Google search results. After selecting the site to go to, it would start and then "redirect" or "jump" to a completely different site usually with some of the search words I used on Google. Help! I seem to have a few problems regarding my MSN account when using the Windows Live Messenger. For one thing, the past two times someone added me to the messenger, and that screen comes up where I can choose to add them too, and I do so, for some reason the person automatically is set on Block, as if I did it by mistake. I thought I did it by mistake the first time it happened, but then it happened the same time the next day with someone else, so I know it isn't me. Also, someone who tried to add me just a few minutes ago asked me:
(Also, are you on MSN? I don't see you on there.)
When I am signed in, Status Available, and I checked my Privacy settings, and it says that anyone can see me online and check my status, and I have [All others] on my Allow list, as well as every other option set to what looks like should make it easiest to let people add me and IM me. What could be the problem? This only seemed to start happening a couple of days ago. The only difference I can imagine affecting it is that I began using AVG (free version) for my antivirus, but I didn't change any default settings. Any help would be great! It's a shame we can't contact MSN directly anymore for help.

Every time I install Windows 7 X64 (or X86) from USB I get two unexplainable delays for no apparent reason and I wondered if this was normal or just my system?

OK, I boot up and the files are copied from the USB to the PC. Fine. Then there's at least a 5 minute delay before the language choice screen appears! Is that a normal delay time?

After choosing that, you get the 'Setup is starting' screen for yet another 5 minutes before the EULA licence appears and you choose what/where or whether you want to repair the PC screens. Again, is that the normal delay?

10 minutes of sitting around waiting for the screen to appear where you can repair/re-install the computer just seems ridiculous.

Thereafter, it only takes 15-20 minutes to do a completely fresh install, so that's fine too.

Anyone else experiencing these delays?

A:Windows 7 X64 USB installation - Is this a 'normal' delay time?

That doesn't normal to me but im not sure what would cause a delay like that, given that you rarely need to access that I guessing its not going to be a major problem though ?????

I have just put a CD-R/RW drive in my computer. I don't have the CD that would have originally came with it because I got it from someone else for cheap. My computer recognizes that it is a CD drive, but I suppose I do not have the driver for it because it says that it cannot be installed without the necessary components. How do I go about finding the driver for this? Can someone help?

A:Solved: CD Drive Installation

What is the make and model of the new CD\RW drive? Best place to find drivers is generally the manufacturers website.

I just got myself an OEM Pioneer DVD-106s drive and I can't seem to get it running. My system's fairly old (PII-333) and it has 2 IDE Ports. IDE 1 is for the 2 HDDs, and IDE 2 is for the CD-ROMs.

I've got a ZipCD CD-RW drive configured as a slave, and the new Pioneer DVD-106 drive as the master. The package didn't come with any CD etc.

Upon booting up, my system detects both CD-ROM drives and so does WindowsME. However, when i double-click on the drive icon, only 1 file is displayed - track1.cda or something like that. In essence, the drive seems to have been correctly installed, yet it doesn't work.

Am I supposed to flash the drive or something 1st? I downloaded the fireware upgrade but haven't used it as the readme.txt file cautioned me abt doing it if the drive wasn't the master on an IDE port or something.

The available jumper settings on the DVD-drive are MA (master), SL (slave) and CS (Mode for drive setting by CSEL of the IDE Interface - ????).

So I am using Outlook.com and am trying to import a list of contacts through the people App. Is there honestly no way to import a CSV file or just import more than one contact at a time? When I use the People App import feature it says "The file is empty or not in the correct format. Please choose a different file". I have researched this and made sure that the columns were set up to be First Name, Last Name, Email Address and it is saved as CSV for sure. I have about 70 contacts to import so I really dont want to type all of their info or try and copy and paste one person at a time.... Thank you!!

I am trying to find the location(s) of the `Turn Off', `Restart', `Stand By', and `Hibernate' icons (as shown on the `Turn Off Computer' dialog), the `Switch User' and `Log Off' icons (as shown on the `Log Off' dialog), and the `Turn Off Computer' and `Log Off' icons (as shown on the Start menu).

I've already checked the shell32.dll file and have performed a thorough search of all files and folders on my computer for files with the `.ico' extension (including hidden files and folders) - all without success.

Anybody have a clue?

I just reinstalled Windows 7 Pro (x64) and installed over 200 Windows Updates.

I installed the Windows Updates by category, when possible, (SP1 Update 1st, Security Updates 2nd, Windows 7 Updates 3rd, etc.), maybe 20 at a time. I wanted to install them by Release Date order, but I had trouble figuring that out since there were so many of them.

When the updates were finished, I just happened to look at the Windows Error Reports (WER) in msinfo32 > Software Environment and noticed that there were 32 Fault Buckets: 11 related to PnP device(s), 6 CbsPackageService failures, 6 Windows Update failures, and 7 miscellaneous.

Is it normal to have 32 Fault Buckets during the initial round of Windows updates? That seems like a lot to me.

Are Windows Updates listed in any particular order when they appear in the updates window?

Just curious. Thanks.

A:Are Fault Buckets normal during Windows Updates installation?

Fault Buckets can relate to many things - often they are due to faulty drivers, which are one of the things that Updates attempts to deal with.
Windows updates generally appear in the listing with the latest at the top - but it doesn't matter too much in which order they are installed, since the detection automatically eliminates superceeded updates, and the system can cope with out-of-order updating to a large extent.

The important question is whether all updates got installed in the end - not their order.
