Samba access from Android device stopped working

Q: Samba access from Android device stopped working

I used to be able to access my Windows 10 machine from my Android tablet via smb:// but this has now stopped working. My Android file manager app can still discover and get the correct name of my PC, but username/password is no longer accepted.
The only thing that has changed since I last attempted to access my PC from my tablet is one or two automatic Windows updates.
I tried trouble shooting and got the ?one or more network protocols are missing on this computer? error, which it says it fixed in administrator mode, but it didn't change anything.
Googling on various fixes mostly seem to result in pages of people not able to connect to the internet at all, but that is not my problem.
Anyone encountered this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

There is a File sharing app out there for Android devices. When connecting to workgroup shares on an Android OS or iOS device, the OS can block you from doing so, to protect the OS and device.

Windows uses CIFS for sharing, not SAMBA. The version of Samba that Microsoft uses, is a very crippled version and has had issues recently since the last update. Download ES File Explorer from the Google Play store and use that to access your shares. I have never had any issues with it.

yo dudes! im

so i got a little project going on here and its not going well.

I have my win10 pc at home and i want to access my network shared hdd's from my android when im out and about. I am using Total Commander on my Android. I can browse the network shared drives when I'm at home connected to my network, and i want to be able to do the same thing when I'm elsewhere, that's possible right? That's samba (SMB) and VPN I'm supposed to use then, right?

A:win10 VPN samba Android

SMB has nothing to do with VPN or Android OS. In order to be able to VPN into your home, you would have to have a VPN server or a Router that allows PPTP VPN. You can use the Raspberry Pi B 2 as a OpenVPN server. Then you just need to run the OpenVPN client on your Android device.

Hello!

This is definitely a Windows 10 thing. If I connect either my Nexus 5 or my LG G4 to my PC via USB the phone is recognized. I can see it in Windows Explorer but clicking on it does nothing, no access to files.

Before I made the jump from Vista to Windows 10 it worked fine. There has to be some setting someplace. I did apply a hotfix (KB3099229_x64) which was supposed to fix the issue. It did not!

If there's some trick to it could you share it with me???

Thanks for you help way in advance!

Dave

A:Android device recognized but cannot access files on it

Are you sure you switched your phone to "File transfer" mode, as opposed to "Charging only" mode? Because this is exactly what happens when you connect an Android phone in "Charging only" mode: it becomes visible in Windows (e.g. in File Explorer), but shows as empty device - no file access.

In standard cookie-cutter Android Marshmallow you are supposed to manually switch the phone to "File transfer" mode every time you connect it to the computer. (Before Marshmallow it was possible to set a default mode, but for some reason they removed that capability in Marshmallow).

I was just working happily when my Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse just suddenly stopped working.
The Bluetooth settings page says "Bluetooth is turned off" and there are no options on the settings page or the system tray to turn Bluetooth on.
The Device Manager now has "Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed" where it did not before.
Other devices all seem to be working fine - USB devices plugged in are being recognized and work properly. Only BT seems to be broken.
I've tried:
uninstalling the device and rebooting
installing the latest updated chipset drivers from the dell website
windows updates
pretty much all of the advice here: http ://troubleshooter.xyz/wiki/fix-usb-device-not-recognized-device-descriptor-request-failed

Any other ideas?
Thanks

A:XPS 15 9550 Bluetooth stopped working (Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed)

So in desperation I just went into BIOS settings to see if there are any BT settings that may have become disabled. I didn't see any, and I didn't change any other settings.
After rebooting, BT and my mouse is now working again.
Something seems to be really flaky here, but hopefully this will help others with the same issue.

My 7270 latitude touch screen stopped working shortly after first use (after win update worked again but for a short time).
All drivers are up to date.
In device manager a USB device shows as unknown (yellow warning triangle), otherwise there are no indications to the source of the problem.  There is no other touch screen device showing in device manager.
How do I perminently solve this?
Thanks

Hi All

I am desperately trying to save some very old audio cassettes by transferring them to my computer before it is too late.

I am running Windows 8 on a Lenovo G500.I am using a Behringer UFO202 digital audio interface into which I can connect my analog cassette deck and run directly into the laptop.

The Behringer device shows up in Device Manager and Devices & Printers and is stated to be 'working properly'
However, Every time I click on the device in Control Panel>Sound>Recording I always get a 'Windows Shell Common DLL has stopped working' error message when I try to set the unit up to record.

I am not overly computer savvy but I think this message has something to do with the registry or maybe it is to do with the drivers??

Whatever the case, I am loathe to start messing around in case I make matters worse so I am posting here in the hope that some kind soul will help me out before I tear all my hair out and potentially lose some precious recordings that I am desperate to save.

Just for the record, I would ideally like to record the Behringer unit directly into Sony Soundfourge 9 and salvage/restore accordingly.

Thank you in advance for your time.

This evening I went to use by portable USB drive and noticed it wouldn't work. I tried another port and it still didn't work. I then tried another device on the same ports and it also did not work.

I opened up device manager and saw that my VIA USB xHCI controller was no longer listed under USB controllers. I turned on Show Hidden Devices and it then appeared as a hidden device. I attempted to re-install the drivers for it but the installer wouldn't run because it said it didn't detect the hardware on the system.

I last used the ports 2 nights ago and didn't have any problem then. I thought the problem may have been caused by the Windows updates I installed today so I uninstalled them all, but the USB controller still doesn't work.

System Info:

Gigabyte GA990FXA-UD3 motherboard
AMD FX-8350 CPU
16GB RAM
GeForce GTX 770 GPUs
Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit OS

A:VIA USB 3.0 Controller stopped working, now hidden device

Uninstall the device & drivers, and reinstall the drivers from Gigabyte. GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3+ - GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev. 1.0) You will need to click on the Rev. of your motherboard, to get the proper drivers. That info should be Silkscreened on the motherboard, next to the model#.

My Yoga 920 experienced a sudden inability to recognize the Lenovo 700 Wireless Laser mouse recently. Since I mostly use the Pen, I didn't notice exactly what set of circumstances may have caused the issue with the mouse. When viewing the USB Devices in Device Manager, I noticed that the Lenovo USB receiver was showing with errors. Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't fix it. I also tried installing a Logitech wireless mouse- same thing, the driver wouldn't install and the mouse wouldn't work. The Lenovo mouse and the Logitech mouse did work on other PCs and laptops in the house. More searching found that the February 13 Windows 10 update is known for breaking USB devices. If this has happened to you, follow the instructions for fixing: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4091240/usb-devices-may-stop-working-after-installing-the-f... This worked for me, I hope it helps someone.

About 3 weeks ago I burned my last cd it would seem. After that my LG DVD burner just sorta stopped. Windows explorer can still see the drive, but when I put in a DVD/CD nothing shows up in explorer. I can send commands to open the drive though. The device manager reads no errors for the drive, the bios detects the drive as well. What I have done so far;

Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers
Replaced the IDE cables, switched back and forth from pirmary to secondary IDE cables
Removed the DVD drive, installed my old CD drive, same things happen.
Set jumper settings from slave to cable and back to slave.
followed the Microsoft instructions on removing the upper and lower filters in the registry. (didn't work)
Tried reinstalling windows...but the optical drive won't read anything so that doesn't work either.
I'm not even sure what would cause this to happen. The only thing I can think of is that a few days before this started my video card overheated and died. I replaced it with my older card, and continued on with now problems. Any help would be much appreciated as I'm ready to toss this out my 2nd floor window.

Cheers

A:How to Stream Audio on Android Device while keeping Video on Windows Device

That would be very difficult.
Lets first find out if your if your Audio jack is broken.
Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc Right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager are there any yellow flags? If so, these devices need drivers installed.
What is the make and model# of your laptop? Go to the manufacturers support/download drivers and type in your make and model# or service tag # and download the Chipset and Audio driver for your computer.

My computer takes a good 10 minutes to load up. It gives different messages every time I turn it on. Today the messages are: Alps pointing-device driver has stopped working; and Microsoft windows search Indexer stopped working and was closed?

can anyone tell me how to fix this? Visata is driving me mad!!!!

A:Alps pointing-device Driver has stopped working

Your Alps pointer problem is probably driver related. To fix it:
1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Right click on Computer & choose properties
3. Open Device Manager (Admin password may be required)
4. Under Mice & other pointing devices, right click Alps pointing-device & choose Update driver software
5. Choose Search automatically & it will download and install the latest signed driver from the windows repositories & hopefully that will fix that problem.

good luck, hope this helps

Okay. My little brother was on my dad's computer. He was playing a flash game and listening to music on WMP. Suddenly, WMP came up with an error saying the media was corrupt, and the blue screen of death came up. I didn't see what the blue screen's error was, but when the computer reset, it came up with "Boot Device Not Found".

We reset the computer manually, letting it sit for a minute unplugged. It booted up slower than normal, but otherwise properly. We then ran chkdsk, it said that the Master File Table's BITMAP was incorrect. We then ran chkdsk /scan as it told us to, and it said there were no errors in the filesystem.

Are the errors gone? If not, what should I do to fix them?

I have a major problem. My Windows 7 RC Build 7100 can't suddenly connect to my linux server via Samba at all. It's been running for month doing just fine.

It's a wired connection. I can logon via SSH, browse public web folders, and ping host <-> client, both IP address and netbios name. However Samba is dead silent when trying to map a share.

I have checked the LAN configuration + Local Security Policy. Turning off the Windows firewall doesn't do a thing either.

When checking network, "net view \\192.168.0.2", it returns "System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found."

Googling the above message mentions a "DNS problem", but I don't have a clue what to do next.

A:No network access to Samba

Running command "nbtstat -A <ip address>" on Windows client lists the samba server just fine. I can logon Windows account using smbclient from Linux host. Logging on a Samba share from Linux host works also.

Apparently there seems to be something on Windows 7 blocking any communication to Samba. I have checked the Samba log files, and everything seems OK. Though no trace of any logon or communication from client.

For testing purpose I've created a test share now with anonymous logon, to no avail

Any hints much appreciated.

Try making the following adjustments on the Windows 8 machine that needs to connect to the Samba share.

This type of problem usually requires that you change the lanman server parameters in order to get Windows 8 working with older servers. Do these adjustments on the Windows 8 machines that needs to connect to the server.

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy

Local Policies - Security Options

Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Set to Send LM & NTLM responses only

Set the Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption

I just reinstalled after I was having issues. Everything seems to be working smoothly, except that I can't access the shares on all but one of my other computers for some reason. Most devices that aren't running either some flavor of Windows or Samba show up just fine.

I tried blocking port 139 and made sure Network file and printer sharing is on, and a few other things, but I'm out of ideas.

Thanks in advance.

A:Can't access Samba shares on 10049

Hi there

I have NO issues now with SAMBA on build 10049 -- before the "C" drive was only showing SOME files - now the whole drive / shares are visible. Works FROM SAMBA ===> WINDOWS and from WINDOWS ==>SAMBA. No problem either with WIN 10 ==>WIN7 and XP and from XP / WIN 7 ==>W10. I don't have W8.1 any more.

Running CENTOS 7 (64 bit) SAMBA version 4.1.12-21. If you use YUM there's a great GUI -- YUM-EXTENDER - makes updating a synch. Other distros -- not sure maybe some type of apt-get.

Try updating your system / distro with relevant updates.

Cheers

Hi. I have an Access 07 db with a tabbed form. the form has many option buttons and drop downs. Everything worked fine until now, i started with one table but decided to add a second. once i related the two based on an ID number (original table has auto number and second table i just created a number field and i typed in the 51 numbers to match the current count from table one). i started to add the new fields from the second table into one of the tabs and stopped when i realized that it now wouldn't allow me to add new records. that was the first problem, the second problems occurred when i decided to go back to the way it was before the table/relationship addition and i deleted the newly added fields and removed the relationship. basically going back to the way it was before the table addition.

NOW my form does not work at all. i can not click on any options or populate any fields. i've tried to compact and repair and that did not help. Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions, i'm at a lose...
thanks!

hello, on my dell d600 laptop i've had no problems getting wireless internet since i bought my wireless router many months ago. but then one day instantly there was just a permanent X over my wifi connection icon. I tried going to another wifi hot spot and it still didnt work and other laptops get access at my house so i know its the computer not the router. Hitting the Function key and F2 has done nothing (thats supposed to turn wireless on and off). Initially when i looked into the problem it said my wireless internet was being blocked by my firewall, but when i turned my firewall off it still didn't work. and even though it no longer said that the firewall was blocking me, there was still a big X through my wireless icon. i'm not a computer genius but i can usually navigate my way through my problems and fix them myself, so this is pretty annoying to get stuck on something like this. thanks a lot if you can help me. also, i bought the laptop refurbished and pluging in to get internet via ethernet cable has never worked, so i can't get online with it at all. The wireless internet IS enabled. The wireless device is an intel pro. also sometimes (not every time) when i start up the computer the wireless internet icons don't even come up and instead i get 2 found new hardware bubbles. one of them says: pci to cardbus bridge. and the other says: generic cardbus controller. i haven't installed any new hardware by the way. thanks again and i hope some... Today my F:/ stopped working it doesnt show up on my computer and when i double click F:/ drive it says file or directory is corrupted. I haven't unplugged or uninstalled any new programs. I have tons of important files in that drive so i do not want to format.

Ive gone to Computer Management-> Disk management
and F:/ drive is (Healthy, Active primary Partition)

Ive also made sure the drive was plugged in securely.

Does anyone have any suggestions without having to format the drive?

A:My F:/ drive currently stopped working our of no where trying to access but can't?

You didn't state but to be clear, is this a USB external drive?

In general, you can skim through See Troubleshoot: Windows Won't Recognize Your USB Hard Drive

but sounds like you'll probably need to run data recovery. The Guide isn't updated yet to describe PC Inspector for data recovery (seems to be even easier to use then TestDisk). Click their Help button in the tool and then follow their 4 steps. Others have used TestDisk (most with success). Tho make sure that TestDisk detects and reports the correct disk size before you decide to have it attempt recovery

When I try to open MS Access and Excel, I get a message which says ' MS Access has stpped working', I get the same message even on Excel.

How to fix this?

A:Ms access and excel has stopped working

Hello Themba & welcome to Vista Forums.
Are you using MS Office Access & Excel 2003 or 2007?
Have you been using these programs without a problem prior to this glitch?
Do other Office programs that you normally use open without a problem?
Have you tried uninstalling & reinstalling?

To access shares on the older Samba servers it's sometimes required that you make adjustments to the Lanman server settings on the Windows 7 machine. The following link shows you the required adjustments.

I have a sort of file/media server setup on one of my boxes as I need a few programs running on it that can't be run on anything else (Well XP, but I'd rather have 7 running on the system).

Well the problem is that none of my other computers can access it other then my main rig and another laptop which are both running Windows 7.

My Macbook and Android can't connect to the Server.
When I restart the Server, the Macbook and Android can connect to it for 30 minutes or so. As long as it's always running, it'll stay connected such as when I'm streaming a movie, but if it's inactive it'll cut the connection and will be unable to reconnect.
If my Macbook can't connect, my Android device can't and vice versa. I don't want to have to restart the Server every time I have to reconnect so any help?

I've tried changing the Local Security Policies, changed the network settings to not use 128bit encryption, but nothing is working.

On the Server it just has Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials.

Have you tried making adjustments to the part in bold?

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy

Local Policies - Security Options

Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Set to Send LM & NTLM responses only

Set the Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption

I have a Linux machine that I use as a home server.
I know the username and password are the same as on my Win7 Ultimate x64 PC.
I can see all the shares, but when I try to connect, using Windows Explorer, and enter the password, it continuously tells me "Access Denied". (See attachment)

I also use SyncToy to keep files backed up, and that program has no problem connecting and transferring files.

I have disabled password sharing in Win7, and done the Security policy trick.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Keep getting access denied when trying to connect to Samba share

"Do you have Windows Live Essentials installed on the Windows 7 PC? The Windows Live Sign-In Assistant portion of that software makes a small change to the way Windows 7 communicates over SMB that breaks the version of Samba included with Ubuntu.

While the Samba team has fixed the official version, Canonical has not yet released an updated version for Ubuntu. In the meantime, you can get it working again by uninstalling the Windows Live Sign-In Assistant.

Incidentally, Windows Live Essentials will sometimes install via Windows Update so it could have installed without your knowledge."

I just set up a KDlinks A400 Android-based media player with a built-in Samba server.  I can see all the folders on my network in Windows Explorer but when I try to select one of the folders, I get the message "Windows cannot access \\ANDROID_DCDAD\share\folder"
and "You do not have permission to access..."
Windows will not allow me to change any permissions or ownership for these folders...everything comes back "Access denied".  I'm signed in as Administrator, have tried disabling Symantec Endpoint Protection and Windows Firewall and still
nothing.
I've tried just about everything I can find on the web but still no progress.  Any ideas before I pack this box up and send it back???

Using IE 11 with Windows 8
All of a sudden IE stopped working. In the right edge of the screen under exit, maximize and minimize is tools. In tools Print, Add site to apps, view downloads, manage add-ons, f12 developer tools, go to pinned sites, internet options and about IE are all “grayed out” where when I move my pointer across them nothing happens (I can not click to open any options for that topic)
File, Safety and compatibility view settings are not grayed out and in black color and I can access them when I move the pointer across them.

The IE page is blank and I can not renew, use home page or previous address or type in a new address.

I've scanned with Spy bot, Adwcleaner, JRT, Superantispyware, Malwarebytes Anti-malewarebytes, Eset and Norton without any luck.

I was referred to hear from "am I infected" forum. I very much appreciate his help.

We ran Security Check by Screen317, RKill , AdwCleaner, ESET Online Scanner and snapshot with Speccy.

Thank you for your help

Hello!

I have a Samba server running Solaris and I'm able to access it fine using Windows 7 with NTLMv2.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
LmCompatibilityLevel REG_DWORD 0x5

However, there is this one feature that I can't get to work in Win 7 Explorer: automounting NFS shares.
I should be able to go to \\system1\net\system2 and access anything that system2 is exporting to system1 via NFS.
On the Solaris server there is no issue + I'm also able to do this in Win XP, Linux and even in Win 7 from the CMD (!!!)

But when going to \\system1\net\system2 from Windows Explorer I get:

"windows cannot access \\system1\net\system2. Check the spelling..."

Just to make this clear: \\system1\net\system2 is not actually present but I should get automounted on demand (as I said, it's working from CMD).

Any clues on where to look? I have a feeling there's a setting somewhere and I'm missing it...

* Also, I remember it worked when using NTLMv1

Thanks,
Tibi

A:Windows Explorer cannot access Samba automount directories

Also, it does not seem to refresh changes. If I remove a file/folder from the server it doesn't show up in Windows Explorer (even after I hit refresh...)
Any thoughts?

A:On-Access Scanner service stopped working and was closed

I would suggest following the suggestions in the malware forums located here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f50/

If it still happens, then download a new copy of the antivirus, uninstall the old copy, install the new copy, then update the new copy, then scan again.
