Q: Guide to replace/upgrade Lenovo T450s/T450 screen. Could be useful for T460/T460s too.

Based on my own experience.Guide for everyone who wants to replace/upgrade his Lenovo T450s or T450 screen.IMHO it can be useful for Lenovo T460s or T460 and similar models.I spend a lot of time to collect all this info. I hope it helps somebody! And it worth to replace if you have TN screen now. LG to AUO - only if you really need little better colors.1. You should be ready to lost hardware brightness control. Brightness set at max always. Some solutions possible - read the guide ) If you have replacement screen from manufacturer or "dead" laptop of the compatible model - you are lucky!2. Sometimes you need to replace eDP cable. It cost additional money and require more skills and time.3. Screens market is terrific. Everybody wants to sell you "same" screen at a high price. You need carefully check seller if you want original AUO display or at least LG display.Brightness control:1. Lenovo replaces the name of a screen in EDID (screen "BIOS"). For example "LG LP140WF3-SPD1" -> "Lenovo LP140WF3-SPD1".2. Lenovo writes all changed names in EDID table in BIOS. If your screen name not in BIOS -> brightness always at maximum.Brightness control (possible solutions):1. Change BIOS EDID table to correct values. Change screen name in EDID. Require very special skills. More info here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/w550s-t550-lcd-screen-replacement-brightness-set-at-max.7741... "DimScreen"="\"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\DimScreen.exe\""DimScreen doesn't change brightness. I think it adds some kind of transparent window over your desktop. Some items like "Start menu", context menu or mouse pointer can not change brightness and always at max.It is not useful in total darkness but ok for a normal work environment.DimScreen issue: on a gray background, you can't see mouse caret on some special brightness level. Solution: change brightness )eDP cable:If you replace fullHD or maybe 1600*900 screen, you don't need to care about eDP cable. You already have eDP 2 lines cable. If you have 1366*768 screen - maybe you have 1 line eDP cable. 1-2-4 lines - additional data lines for high data rate / screen resolution. How to check your cable:a) Find ThinkPad XXXX Platform Specifications file.b) Find possible screen resolutions for your model.c) My T450 has 1366*768 screen, but it has 2 lines eDP cable.e) Find XXXX_frubom_xxxxxxxx.pdf file for you model, you can see different cables for your model. Preferred Solution: Guide to replace/upgrade Lenovo T450s/T450 screen. Could be useful for T460/T460s too.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Periodically someone will go to turn their laptop on, and the green light on the power button will light up, but the screen stays blank.  If you press and hold the power button for a count of ten or more until the green light goes out and press it again to turn it on, all that happens is the green light comes back on.  I've disconnected the power adapter and did the same thing with the same result.  The only thing that has worked is removing the bottom panel and disconnecting the internal battery and CMOS battery for a few minutes.

Currently I have x230, but need to invest in a new battery for it (some 40 for a genuine one) so not sure If I want to do that since I have had this laptop for a long time now and I'm kinda looking for a larger screen as well and extra battery run-time you get with the new series wouldn't be too bad either.I have been waiting for a moment when the t450 drops in price and you can get one for around 300 now which still has got some 2+years warranty, and I can sell my x230 for some 200 probably. so sounds like a good very cheap upgrade...however...I watched some video today where the guy had opened up a t450 and did and ssd/ram upgrade and It finally hit me- That laptop looks like some cheap chinese pokemon toy compared to x230 or t430 which I also have + it hasn't got the thinklight anymore and generally the t450 looked just very cheaply made.. I get it that it's slimmer and smaller but it just looked sooo cheaply made in the videos I saw So I'm not too sure anymore if I want to even get the t450 because it looked like a cheap pokemon toy compared to x230/t430 I have What about the t460 does it got better/more solid build quality than the t450 or they are about the same? I'm not looking at the t440 because I see the internet is full about reports about how bad they are.. Probably next year this time the t460 would cost some 300 as well if a new model gets released so I might as well wait for it to drop in price if I get something way better in build quality over the t45... Last week, my T450 went completely dead - no power lights whatsoever, whether I changed outlets or batteries.I now have a replacement T460, and literally within a week it too has gone dead. Another laptop that was charging on the same power strip is fine. Same problem - no power light whatsoever. I've switched out batteries and power cables, I've tried holding the power button for 30 seconds with no adapter/battery. It seems unlikely to be a coincidence...

T450 and T450s offer an SD slot.  My questions are: Does this slot accommodate 32 x 24 mm SD cards?See https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/67/SD_Cards.svg Does the card go completely into the card slot without any part of the card, or a slot door sticking out even by one millimeter? Is there any danger of twisting or breaking off the card or a slot door by leaving an SD card permanently inside the slot? Is there any store where one can visit and touch and feel an unit before a purchase?

A:T450 T450s SD card slot

It has two slots, one for a SIM card (with a pull-out tray) and one below that for a standard SD card, 32x24. The card does stick out by a tiny amount so you can press on it and the spring-loaded slot will eject the card. I can't imagine any danger of damaging the card by leaving it in the slot.

hi All,My company allow me to purchase the T460s (with 8GB RAM + 256SSD) vs. T460 (with 16GB RAM + 512SSD).I read the specs of the 2 units that IT sent me, there is a difference in the display:T460s listed as 14" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS, Anti-Glare T460 listed as 14" FHD (1920 x 1080) Anti-Glare both has same 1920 x 1080.   But, T460s has the word "IPS".    Will it make any different in viewing prictures taken from Canon Pro DSLR? the T460s weight 3.0lb vs. T460 weight 3.8lb.  it is ok.  not big deal for me. I heard the case and keyboard for T460s are better? is it really a big deal? The T460 will have better battery, plus, I can add another battery (replace the DVD).    Overall, I like the T460 for work more.   At the same time, I am a semi Pro photograph guy, so, I need to be able to display nice pictures on my laptop for clients.  So, if the IPS (with same 1920 x 1080) does not make much different vs. FHD, I would ask my IT to order the T460. Please help to give me your advice.thank you so much, best regards,

I've got the basic TN 1366x768 display on my T450 and would like to install a full HD 1080p IPS display. I can't seem to find any information on the forums for screen replacement for this model. Most online display retailers sellers suggest that the edp cable would have to be replaced for a dual channel one. Is this correct? Also, would replacing this display for a full HD blow any fuses in the laptop? Any help on this would be truely appreciated.

A:Screen upgrade from 1366x768 on T450

Welcome to the forum!

There is a FHD panel listed in the parts list on the support side: source: Parts List

Click on the link above and scroll down to page 4, you will see a FHD panel listed with FRU #04X5916. No need to change the cable, there are only two types of cables, one for touch and one for non touch (see on page 3 under "Cables")

Panels are not a self service CRU. If you have warranty on your T450 you may need to contact Lenovo to get the panel changed.

Hope this helps...

Hey, I bought a Thinkpad T450 back in November and really like the specs with one MAJOR exception and that's the screen that the laptop has come with. It's astoundingly bad. They didnt offer a 1080p IPS display so I went for a HP+ 1600x900 display as a sort of temprorary option, because I know that if I got a 1260x724 I'd have to invest in a new connector pin. The issue is when I went to ask an IT shop how much it would cost to just replace the screen they told me my Laptop wouldnt support a 1080p IPS screen and it would just be blank saying they've had this issue before. I've seen that people have done it on the internet so I don't really know who to go with here. I suspect they may have tried to go from 724 to 1080p which would explain it. Does anyone have any experience with this and if it is possible to upgrade is there a difference between a t450 and t450s 1080p screen  and would either be compatable with each other? As a note they offer my EXACT laptop with a 1080p screen now so again any info I may be missing here regarding why it wouldnt be compatable would be appreciated. Aren't these laptops supposed to be upgradable? It's the whole reason I bought it..

A:Upgrade T450 screen to 1080p

It looks like they only offer the FHD screen on the "S" model. Having said that, I cannot guarantee it will work, but I would GUESS that it would. They use the same BIOS. Note that if you have any warranty left, replacing the screen would likely void it. Note that the T450 series machines seem to have a custom eeid image and people who have replaced screens using aftermarket panels have reported that brightness controls no longer work.

A customer recently brought in the Lenovo Thinkpad T450s because the screen was failing. When I hook up the new screen, there is no display at all.And so I connected an external monitor through the VGA Port ( To boot the system into safemode to try to reinstall the display driver ), however the external monitor only displays a black screen and the mouse cursor and nothing more.Any thoughts on the issue? The fn+f7 combo is supposed to switch your display to external, but without being able to access the desktop due to the laptop screen display issue, it won't allow me to switch.

I wasted a frustrating 40 minutes with Lenovo tech support trying to elicit answers to these simple questions. Trackpoint Historically, Linux support for Trackpoints has been hit or miss. Consider these two FRU IDs: 40K9400 is pre-Lenovo IBM USB keyboard with Ultranav (pad and Trackpoint). It is essentially impossible to change the Trackpoint sensitivity in Linux. It just shows up as a (very stiff) PS2 mouse. 55Y9003 (using it now) is a Lenovo USB keyboard with only Trackpoint. When plugged in, shows a "sensitivity" file on sysfs, where you can write 255 to get a good pliable mouse. On my current keyboard the path is /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb2/2-2/2-2:1.1/0003:17EF:6009.0056/sensitivity (will change after each USB plugin). Without the sensitivity tweak, Trackpoints are terrible in Linux, as bad as the pathetic lookalikes on HP and Dell and Toshiba laptops. A lot of people buy Thinkpads for Trackpoint and Linux. Lenovo should publish details of Trackpoint chipset and how to reliably control sensitivity from Linux. I tested the first Trackpoint before it was released to market, and contributed code to a Linux trackpoint driver, so I feel strongly about this. Take away the Trackpoint in Linux and there's no good reason for me to choose T460 over MBP15.  Storage options Apparently T460s has a full-length mSATA connector on the motherboard, but no 2.5 inch HDD/SSD bay. This is request to Thinkpad software development team. As showed by this long forum thread:http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/w550s-t550-lcd-screen-replacement-brightness-set-at-max.7741... Some Intel core 5th gen Thinkpads like T450, T450s, T550, W550s has display panel whitelist in their BIOS which will cause brightness control not working in Windows if user installed display panel which isn't in the whitelist. The whitelist is based on the display EDID and are put inside the bios. There is no way to circumvent the whitelist without flashing the display's EEPROM (by altering the EDID) or patching the BIOS which are not easy thing to do for normal people. So I hope Thinkpad dev team could release a BIOS update to remove the whitelist code. Because if not, this whitelist issue will hurt the sell value of those thinkpads. As if the screen is defective, finding the replacement display panel will be very difficult. As time goes by, who knows in future no one will produce the whitelisted lenovo panel anymore, then those thinkpads (with defective screen) would lose their sell value. Thinkpad is most known for its repairability, so I hope this feat can be maintaned.

I've been trying to contact Taiwan Lenovo's warranty registration team that sometime in the second week of June, someone suddenly placed a "Loaner Machine" warranty upgrade on my Thinkpad T460s (Upgrade type P2L) without my authorization. The description of the P2L upgrade is"This product is entitled to loaner machine support for up to 1 year in which actual support duration follows machine's base warranty. Hi everyone, I have a T460 (20FNCTO1WW) that has a touchscreen panel. Unfortunately, the screen has blotches of deadish pixels (still has color, but are greyish). I would like to replace the screen, but am having a hard time finding a replacement. It seems like 40-pin touch screens for the T460 got discontinued? Regardless, I hardly ever use the touch screen feature, so would be open to going non-touch, but not really sure how to go about doing that. Are there 40-pin to 30-pin converters so I could go with a 30-pin monitor? Are T450 or T470 monitors an option?

A:T460 Touch Screen Deadpixels, Need Replacement or Upgrade.

Over the last few months I've had around 7 different occurances of a monitor not displaying anything while powered on and hooked up. This has happened with multiple makes and models of monitors and also laptops, even the connections are different in some cases whether it be VGA, VGA to Mini display, HDMI, or HDMI to Mini display. The only similarity of all the occurances is 2 monitors were used while this happened. Each time I've replaced all the adapters and cords to see if that would fix it. The only thing that seems to fix it, is to switch the monitor out with another one. This happened after the founders update for Windows. All PC's are using Windows 10 64 bit. Any help would be appriciated on this!

When I tried to turn on my laptop, nothing appears on the screen. So I called lenovo and sent my laptop to them. But later I received an email saying"Thank you for choosing a Lenovo Personal Computer. You are receiving this email to notify you that after performing initial troubleshooting, we have determined that your system needs a replacement COVER UpperCase C 80XC SR WKB. Despite our best efforts to maintain inventory of all service components, the part needed to repair your machine isn't expected to be available until 2 22 2018. Rest assured we are working diligently to complete the repair in a timely manner and will do everything possible to get your machine back to you as quickly as possible. " So lenovo wants to replace the uppercase to fix the problem? I don't think that is possible.

You don't say what model.  Is the part number short one digit?  They may mean the lid assembly (LCD).

I dropped my computer and cracked the corner of the screen.  It is shattered into little bits and is currently being held together with a lot of tape. I would like to know if I can replace the broken LCD with a one that doesn't have touch screen capabilities because it's an expensive part that I rarely use.  If I can, what kind do I need? Thanks in advance.

Tried pressing F1 after pressing start button, no help. Can't enter BIOS, still stuck at lenovo screen. Also tried Ctrl+Alt+Del on that screen, blacks out then stuck at lenovo screen again.

Please help and inform, thanks!!!

A:ThinkCentre: Stuck at Lenovo splash screen after lenovo solution bios upgrade

I would try resetting the BIOS using the jumper, or by taking out the CMOS battery, wait a minute or two, and then replace it and try booting up. See page 73 of the Hardware Maintenance Manaul linked below for location of the Clear CMOS/Recovery jumper (# 20) https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/m83m93p_hmm.pdf Clearing the CMOS (BIOS)1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer. 2. Remove the computer cover. 3. Locate the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper on the system board. 4. Move the jumper from the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2) to the maintenance position (pin 2 and pin 3). 5. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. 6. Turn on the computer and leave it on for approximately 10 seconds. Then, turn off the computer by holding the power switch for approximately five seconds. 7. Repeat step 1 through step 2. 8. Move the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper back to the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2). 9. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. Good Luck,

Hi everyone,  I am currently using a Lenovo T450s with the default screen option when checking out. I would like to upgrade to a touch screen. I would like to ask if:- the upgrade from non-touch to touch screen is possible?-where could I buy the touch screen for the laptop? would this one work? https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-T450S-Touch-Screen-04X5911/dp/B01H0NKM5W/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=147986... - where could i the basic guide to do it by myself? The most important question that I think is the first one: whether it is possible to upgrade from a non-touch to touch screen on T450s. I look forward to hearing all the suggestions.Thank you.

Hello guys,So I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Z400 touch that recently fell from a table and the laptop itself looks physically OK and has no dents or cracks at all, even the glass touchscreen is ok but the top part of the LCD inside appears to be cracked as there are lines and black cracks on my screen. I recently took the laptop to a Lenovo service center and they told me that they had to change both the LCD and the touch screen module (or digitizer as i have heard) as they come in a package, this costs around $300 and is not worth it since my laptop would cost around the same if sold secondhand. My question is whether there is a way to change just the LCD without changing the touch screen module as it works perfectly fine. After taking my laptop to a technician outside of Lenovo, he claims that seperating the touchscreen module from the LCD would almost always result in the touch screen cracking so it would be unusable, is this true or is it possible to keep the old touch screen module and change just the LCD? Thanks in advance

When I received the machine and burned the recovery media I got a message that said "2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD). Already Update Windows 7 with windows update and stills get hang apps sometimes. Thanks for the help.
