Need help making windows media player my permanent default player

Q: Need help making windows media player my permanent default player

I posted on April 22 and received no response then a friend told me a week later to respond to my post and say "bump" and this should get a response. I have received no response. If I am doing it incorrectly please tell me. I am having problems keeping WMP my default player ever since updating I-tunes and Quick time. My post on 4-22-2011 attempts to explain it. Hopefully you can help. Chevelle67

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Each time you reinstall those applications you need to pay due diligence to the final stages of the installation. When asks you about changing over to Quicktime the file associations select no.

Hello everyone, I have a problem with Quicktime right now. I really would like Media Player to be the default player for .mpg and .wmv, but even though I have Mozilla set in the options screen to open those programs with Media Player, they are still opening in Quicktime! I also went to the plugin settings screen in QT and set it to NOT be the default player for video files (unless they're .mov). After I did this, those video files i told mozilla to open in MP are still being opened in QT! Am I doing something wrong? Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

Here is the solution:

In Internet Explorer go to Tools > Internet Options > Programs Tab > Internet Programs section and click on the Set Programs button. The Default Programs window will open. Then, click Set Program Access and Computer Defaults. Choose Microsoft, or go to Custom and check Windows Media Player as the default player. This will reset the association for Windows Media Player to open and play the MP3 file when you click the link.

Hi,
A while ago I downloaded an episode of a show. It worked good for a while, but for some reason, when I play it now, the picture goes out of sync with the audio after a few minutes of watching it. It didn't do that before. I have Windows Media Player 6.4 that came with Windows ME. I did download Windows Media Player 9, but that didn't fix the problem, and I like Windows Media player 6.4 better so that's the one I want to fix anyways. I already tried to restart the computer but that didn't work. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I have Windows ME. Thanks.

A:Windows Media Player keeps making the picture out of sync with the audio

In my experience, laggy video is caused by one of two things:

1) bad codec. Did you update your video codec recently?
2) resource drag. Not enough RAM, too many background processes, too many active processes, etc. Have you recently added software/services to run on your computer?

And I managed to righ-click it in the Now Playing list and click Remove from List, and it was gone, but I opened it other times after and it's still there! I'm not certain that it is the cause of the freezing, but it may be.

Hello,

I use Windows Media Player 12 as my default player under Windows 7.

However, whilst cleaning up my audio library I have found an awful lot of MP3 files that stutter and crackle/pop whilst being played, almost like they're skipping.

If I open the folder location for these files and choose to play them with VLC, they play perfectly.

I am using the latest audio drivers (R2.40) for my onboard Realtek soundcard.
As well as the near-latest version of the Shark007 codec pack.

I have tried changing the default codec for MP3 under the Settings Application, both x86 and x64 versions, and using Run as administrator, to no avail.

So, how do I get Windows Media Player to use a different codec for MP3 playback, ideally the one that VLC uses as default, which is 'libavcodec' I think?

All other audio playback is perfectly fine, i.e. the internet, DVD, WMC, Windows etc.
It is JUST certain MP3 files.

A:How do I change the default Windows Media Player codec?

I use Shark007 codec pack for media player, you also need the 64 bit addon if you decide to try that.Shark007.net - Windows 7 Codecs - WMP12 Codecs

Hi,
Its been a long time that my default album art picture logo of media player is stucked on a very annoying picture.
It only shows it if the music file that I open (a song for exam: Linkin park - Numb), doesn't have any specific logo of its own.
If it does, it shows his (the Linkin Park's logo).
But on most cases my music files don't have a logo of their own (it doesn't must be a real song, as long as its mp3 its opened by media player), so I see this annoying picture alot.
I've tried to mess with all the configurations available and got no solution.
I also tried to contact the Microsoft's Media Player's community support system, but they blocking any kind of contact with "writing words", so using the begginer F.A.Q isn't really helping.
I also tried the manually work, as searching every kind of picture with that logo and delete it.
I downloaded a Hidden File Tool, that lets me search every kind of hidden system picture, and I actually found some of these pictures stucked any where (as on my Desktop, on few song's folders, but none in C:Windows or something like that).
I'm not sure about it but I think it solved just a lil bit.. It fix'ed the not-a-song-mp3-file that was on my desktop and had that logo but now it shows a lovely blank instead.
But the rests are still with it.

So please if you can help me, I'm dying to solve this for real already,

Hi I noticed there was a tread about this already but it was closed and the problem was not solved for me. When I got my computer new, the Media Player choose the first image I had on my desktop as the default image for all songs that do not have artwork. I cannot seem to fix this, I use Itunes to assign artwork to songs and that works, but the default image assigned to songs without artwork still remains. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Update: I found a song that has the proper album art in the preview image, but when I open it the old default picture I had on my desktop in the first place shows up. The only way for me to fix this was to drop the song into Acid Pro and render it at the same kbps, then give this duplicate the proper artwork through Itunes.
