T570 with Lenovo thunderbolt dock powering 2 4K Lenovo monitors

Q: T570 with Lenovo thunderbolt dock powering 2 4K Lenovo monitors

Hello, My company recently purchased a dual 4k setup for a work station. The setup is the following:2 ThinkVision P27 monitorsLenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 DockT570 (Type: 20HA) I setup the monitors and docking station yesterday and was able to power the displays using a X1 Carbon 5th gen (i5 model type: 20HQ) thru USB-C without issue. I have a user testing out the desk now with a T570. I'm able to get one monitor to funtion at 4K and the other is running at 1080p. If you check display settings I'm unable to increase the resolution to 4K. I've updated all drivers on the T570 including the display driver and thunderbolt docking station driver this morning and the system still fails to power dual 4K. I brought back the X1 I used previously and it powers the screens normally. I checked the specs of the T570 and its identical to the X1 as far as processor is concerned and the model page claims the USB-C port on the T570 can power dual 4K. What else can I try?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

(For those of you who have followed my previous threads, I've now ordered a T580 with 4k display). I'm looking for a T3 dock which can do the following on a T580. It would allow me to use just one cable to dock/undock it: 1) Attach a screen with a 2560x1440 resolution with 60Hz (digital connection)2) Attach a screen with a 1920x1200 resolution with 60Hz (digital or VGA connection)3) Full Ethernet port4) Charge the laptop (originally, it comes with a 45W power adaptor)5) Have at least 1 classic USB 3.0 port Unfortunately my budget is limited so that I can't go for the original Lenovo one. If there's a dock which can all the above except for attaching two screens, then this would be ok as well, for the time being (assuming I can run one screen via the dock, and the other screen directly from the HDMI of the T580). Then it would just be 2 cables for docking/undocking...

We are currently using Lenovo T480 laptops with ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Docks (Model 40AC0135US) in our office and frequently encounter the following issues: ? When a user connects their T480 to the dock, their monitors do not display any video? When a user connects their T480 to their dock, their monitors will display video, but USB peripherals (keyboard, mouse) do not work? When disconnecting from a dock, the charging light on the T480 stays lit and Windows shows the laptop is still connected to power and charging? External displays flicker intermittently When a user experience issues with their dock, the only way to get things working again is to shut down the computer, disable the internal battery in the BIOS, and then plug the T480 into the dock and turn it on. However, the issue eventually returns and we have to repeat the steps again. We have also tried the following steps, but continue to see issues:? Run Lenovo System Update and install all driver, bios, and dock firmware updates? Replaced Thunderbolt cable? Change the Thunderbolt Security Level in bios to No Security and Uninstall Thunderbolt Software Most of our laptops are running Windows 10 1709. Has anyone else experienced these issues and know of a good solution?

I own a Thinkpad T480 (20L5: Intel UHD graphics, Core i5 8th gen) and since it supports Thunderbolt 3, I want to attach an external GPU and display for light gaming. I see that Lenovo itself has a "Lenovo Thunderbolt Graphics Dock" but does not offer that as compatible with the Thinkpad series. Nevertheless, as Thunderbolt 3 is a standard, I am wondering if the Graphics Dock works with the T480. Did anybody already try that?

I recently received a ThinkPad T480s for my work PC and a Thunderbolt 3 Dock. I'm loving the laptop, but the dock is having some troubles. I'm worried either the dock is bad or worse, the laptop's Thunderbolt hardware is bad. The dock will cut out and appear to crash on certain occasions. I'm still trying to experiment with the triggers. I'm not 100% sure, but it appears that while I'm using it everything works fine - so long as I keep the laptop awake. It's when the ThinkPad goes to sleep or I leave my desk for a long enough time that the screens will have appeared to drop out. Or after the laptop has gone to sleep and I wake it up, then a few minutes later the dock crashes. For the most part the issue resolves itself once the dock power cycles and the displays come back up, but the last time this happened the screen was frozen and I had to do a hard shutdown of the laptop by holding the power button. My dock is pretty heavily loaded. It has the following peripherals attached: 2 DVI monitors with DVI to DisplayPort converterr connected to the dock1 VGA monitorEthernet connectionKeyboard USBMouse USBAudio OutAll monitors plus the docking powersupply are connected to the same powerstrip. The closest post resembling my issue is this one: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Displays-Options-and-Accessories/Thunderbolt-3-Dock-crashes-and-emits-c... But it doesn't appear to have been fully solved. I've updated the ThinkPad's Thunderbolt drivers and firm... I just got my P52 with Quadro P1000 GPU hooked up with my new 40AN0230EU docking and 3x 24" monitors. Two of my monitors is connected through Display Ports, and the last one is connected with HDMI cable in the docking side and DVI in the monitor side of the cable. My problem is that the two monitors connected trough DP can do up to 1920 x 1200 pixles (which is recommended), but the last screen (which is identical to the other two) connected through the HDMI "hybrid" cable is only able to do 1920x1080! When I try to connect the HDMI directly into the computer instead of the docking I am suddenly able to do full resolution on the last screen too (1920 x 1200). I'm wondering what I can do to fix this? I've also tried to connect my P51 with Quadro M2200 GPU to the same docking, and that computer is able to do 1920x1200 on all the three screens trough the docking without any problems.

Looking at  https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/de/en/solutions/ht503574 (MAC address pass-through solution), the supported systems for this feature seem to be:X1 Carbon (5th Generation) (20HR, 20HQ)T470T470sT470pP51P71So it seems the T-series notebooks do not support MAC pass-through. As we have quite a few T570 models right now, I`d like to get a confirmation whether that is actually the case, or if it would be possible to configure those models to use pass-through as well. Without this feature, the Thunderbolt 3 Dock would unfortunately be unusable.

Hi guys, This morning System Update ran and installed a bunch of the newest March 2019 updates. The big one was the Intel Management Engine. After rebooting, when my Thunderbolt 3 Dock is plugged into my Lenovo P52 it freezes on the POST screen with the Lenovo logo. If i unplug the dock it boots fine, plug the dock in after the OS is booted, things work fine. Its just during the POST during secure boot. I tried reflashing the Thunderbolt firmware to the 11/2018 to no avail, reflashed the dock with version 3.x of the firmware (latest) no difference, downgraded the firmware on the dock, changed the boot support methods for thunderbolt, so on and so forth.  Its strange it doesn't get past the logo screen it just sits. Is there another version of the Thunderbolt firmware i should be using besides the November 2018? I really would not like to peel back all the different updates that it updatedAnybody got any ideas? Is there a way to find what the cause is? Honestly i can unplug the dock when i reboot and plug it back in within a second after the POST screen and things work as normal. Its just a pain.

I have T570 and two same "thinkpad ultra dock" docking stations - one at the office and the other at home- with two monitors connected on each of them (DP & HDMI). At the office, I close the lid (2 screens) and at home I keep it opened (3-screen setup). A while ago it started flickering / blanking external monitors on *both* of them. Sometimes, when computer is left locked for some time (sleep is disabled!) external monitors are blanked and I can only revive them by removing + attaching the laptop to the dock again. I tried firmware updates on dock, driver updates on windows / lenovo... nothing helps. Windows 10, latest updates. I find it weird that two docks would go bad almost simultaneously. What else can I try - it is driving me crazy as I cannot work normally (sometimes it blinks like every minute or so but other times it is OK for more than an hour)?

Hello everyone, So we have an X1C6 and an X1 Yoga 3 at home. We have a Toshiba Thunderbolt 3 Dock setup with a 4k Monitor, speaker and the works - whoever needs the workstations plugs into it - easy peasy. Life is good minus the fact that the power button on the Toshiba Dock does not power on the laptops - instead it powers itself on or off when we press the power button. Does that make sense to you guys? On the X1 Yoga 3, it is easier as the power button in on the side. But on the X1C6. I have to actually open the laptop up, hit the power button, and only then will the computer power on. I have used many docks in the past, and none have behaved this way. The very idea of using a dock for me is not to have to open the laptop unless I am taking it away. What am I doing wrong here? Or is that something I will have to live with? If it helps, this is the dock we are using: https://us.toshiba.com/accessory/PA5281U-1PRP/ Thanks in advance for your help, guys.  Cheers!

Checking to see if anyone has had this issue. We have 5 T570 20JW, running the most current verison of Windows 10Pro and since Yesterday (9/18/17), whenever a user undocks their laptop and then redocks it the external monitors do not turn back on and Windows does not recognize the 2 displays either. The only way we have been able to get them to show back up is to either reseat one or both of the monitor cables from the dock or put the laptop into sleep mode and then wake it backup using the docking station power button. It's not the displaying drivers causing the issue, at least not directly as we have tried the most current and the last release and neither fix the issue and as I stated this just started on 9/18 and the most current drivers are a few months old now. My only guess is that it's one of the 5 lenovo updates that where installed yesterday or the latest bios update (See the attached picture). I haven't had the chance yet to uninstall each of the 5 updates because I will need to go download the last version of each of them first, but wanted to see if any one else has had this happen and to forwarn anyone that has one to be careful with the most current updates. Thanks, Joseph

Hello all, I am a solutions architect trying to solve an issue which I have never heard of before. Though others users are having this same issue, my experience has been different then what they have seen. First,The following are the Security options for Thunderbolt devices as per user guide

User Authorization: Allow Thunderbolt devices to be connected after user authorization.
Secure Connect: Allow Thunderbolt devices to be connected with a saved key that has been approved by the user.

Does the Thinkpad P51s support the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? I have the Thinkpad P51s with stock Windows 10 Pro and updated to latest drivers and Windows version and installed the latest Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock drivers. Attaching the Thunderbolt 3 Dock to the P51s as described in documentation, it charges the notebook, however, noting attached to the dock is recognized. I've tested with attaching USB flash drives, headphones, Ethernet, HDMI, and DP, but nothing is recognized nor are any warnings/errors displayed in Windows. While the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock is listed as being compatible with the P51s and T570, the notebook order page does not list the Thunderbolt 3 Dock in any of the accessories lists. Lenovo Sales also confirmed that the Thunderbolt 3 Dock is fully compatible with the P51s.  However, I needed to purchase the Thunderbolt 3 Dock separately from the notebook order. What's going on? Has anybody successfully used the P51s or the T570 with the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? Or is this something I need to wait for full support via a future BIOS/driver update? Or perhaps my Thunderbolt 3 Dock is defective? Thanks,Boris

I used the Lenovo System Update (v5.07.0074) and was prompted to download and install (was listed as Critical Update) the Firmware to my Dock.  As always, I closed all applications and sat as the Firmware downloaded. I got the expected prompt to ensure I was plugged in. I then watched as the upgraded prompted me to install. Installation completed and everything appeared to be fine.  I powered down the thinkpad and disconnected. Worked from the living room, then went back to the dock. Connected, and noticed that before I connected the White light on the power button was illuminated. Shrugged, and pushed the power button. Nothing. I un-plugged the Dock, got a cup of coffee, returned and plugged it back in. Nothing. I then noticed that none of the pass-through power was working on the dock.  So, I unplugged it again.  Unplugged everything connected to it, and held the power button down for 15 seconds in an effort. All of this at the recommendation of Lenovo Support. Who, by the way, was very nice and well spoken. Nothing we did worked. I happened to have another Thunderbolt 3 cable in my bag, and no change. I powered up my new X1 Yoga, and connected the cable. No power. This wasn't passing power at all. I confirmed the Intel Thunderbolt app was running, and confirmed that Windows was not even detecting the Dock.  Lenovo is sending me a replacement. I had this one all of a week. Did I miss any other steps while I wait for it to be repl... Read more

Hi!I just got a new "X1 Carbon 5th Gen - Kabylake (Type 20HR, 20HQ)" and a "X1 Carbon Thunderbolt 3 Dock". I have an external screen connected to the dock and it works fine (VGA connection). I also have an other monitor with display (DP) connection that I want to use. But my computer can't find the other monitor, only the one with VGA connection. Is there any easy ways to fix this problem?Best regards

Hi, I've purchased new Lenovo ThinkPad T570 with the following specs: CPU i7 7600UGPU 940MX32Gb RAM1Tb SSD PCIe (Samsung PRO 960)"15.6UHDLTEBatteries: 32Wh 4Cell Li-Ion front battery + ThinkPad Battery 3 Cell Li-Ion (24Whr) - up to 13.5 hrs according to OEM System setup: Win10 x64- All unnecessary apps are off/deleted (all background apps disabled)- No resource-consuming apps running (Skype and that's it)- Visual Windows effects are turned off- All possible background Windows services (such as error reporting, Cortana and etc. are off). I did not touch any services through msconfig though, they are at defaults.- Power type: Balanced- Screen brightness at 95%  What I am experiencing from time to time is dimming screen (Power Options -> Advanced Settings -> Display - > Enable adaptive brightness is both OFF (on battery and plugged-in). 1. What can be the cause for dimming? 2. Other question - battery is holding maximum 5.5-6 hrs (no resource heavy tasks, only browsing, 1080p videos on youtube). How to optimize that? 3. Windows update or simple JAVA setup can trigger fan to start working heavily blowing basically cold air - very annoying. All newest drivers are installed. BIOS is updated to the latest version. Feedback is highly appreciated. Thank you.

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

Hi guyz )  I have encountered this quite unusual problem with my notebook. I have been using it for three months including the Bluetooth services (connecting devices, sharing files, etc.) but today I came home and the icon is gone and when I try to open the settings, there is no switch button for "Turn bluetooth On|Off" and all paired devices say, that "Bluetooth is turned off".   I have already checked some advices on the net saying I should reinstall my BT drivers, but when I open the Device Manager, there is not the item "Bluetooth radios". From this all it seems to me, my notebook somehow forgot it can use Bluetooth.  Any advice will be appreciated )
