I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Re: U310 Touch Hinge

I purchased a Lenovo U310 Touch last May and it has been working wonderfully until recently. I've noticed in the last few weeks that every time I open or close the lid, the hinge makes a loud cracking noise and pops off at the ends. I can press the hinge cover back into place, but it just continues to pop off every time I open/close it. I contacted Lenovo Support about the issue, and even though my machine is still under warranty, they will not fix it without charging me because they have no proof I didn't break it myself (which I find absolutely ridiculous; I haven't dropped or damaged it in any way, and if you look at the computer you can clearly see it is otherwise in perfect condition.)That being said, has anyone else experienced this problem with the U310? Does anyone have any suggestions to fix it? I am concerned that it will just get worse and eventually affect my display.

Hello, I purchased a U310 Touch about 15 months ago that is no longer under warranty. Every time I try and boot the machine I receive no response from the machine. The power light turns on, the fan spins, the HDD turns on but the screen never displays anything. Even when I close the clamshell the machines power button stays lit and won't shut off unless I kill the power by holding down the power button. My troubleshooting steps have been:Reset RAMUnplug battery from motherboardWait for battery to completely drainBoot with HDMI monitor to see if anything displays (nothing would, so LCD panel should be good) With all of these, I cant get the machine to fully function. It feels like the machine is in total sleep mode, I feel like it needs a new motherboard. With my experience with lenovo I feel like this will be the last machine I ever purchase from them, this is unacceptable for a laptop of this age.  Does anyone have any similar situations? If so did you purchase a new motherboard and was it good to go? I'm very comfortable with ripping machines apart since I used to work on a help desk. I would hate to spend $100 on a part and waste all that time if it wont fix the issue.  Any help is greatly appreciated.Thank you.

Hi overtheborder and welcome to the community,

What OS are you running?  Maybe two things you can try depending on the OS.

Remove the hard drive and see if it boots to the bios.

Try booting a usb flash drive with linux.

hello, Today i spilled water over my lenovo u310 touch and at the moment it is still working.I saw that some lenovo's are water resistent so i wonder if the u310 touch is also water resistent? If its not what should i do to prevent any water problems with my u310 touch? Thank you in advance for your help!

A:U310 touch water resistent?

Hi Kelly,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

No, neither the keyboard nor the rest of the computer are waterproof. The drain holes drain water out but once it's in there, it can do damage despite this.  Lenovo won't honor the warranty if there's even the slightest evidence of water spills.

If you have water spillage, you should leave it to dry for two days before reattaching the AC and battery.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Shashi

I'm running Windows 8.1. I started having issues the day before yesterday when I downloaded Skype. It froze several times, task manager couldn't kill it, and I had to turn my laptop off to close the program. After doing that, I was able to use Skype and did so for a few hours with no other issues that night. Yesterday, while in the middle of watching a video on Chrome, the video suddenly froze and it popped up saying that Chrome wasn't responding, did I want to wait or close it. I selected close but it wouldn't close, just kept running the "Windows is looking for a solution to the problem" thing for several minutes so I had to end Chrome through the task manager. When I tried to reopen it, it wouldn't respond. I restarted and decided since I'd had no issues before installing Skype, I would uninstall it and see if that helped. I also uninstalled a few games I no longer used in case I was having space issues. I then had it download and install any Windows updates, restarted after that was done, and was able to use Chrome again. A few hours later (the computer had been asleep for at least two or three hours,) I was successfully browsing when I tried to view a news site and Chrome froze/stopped responding. I tried to select "close the program" again but got same result, it wouldn't close, kept saying "Windows is looking for a solution to the problem" so I used the task manager to close it again. Repeat the earlier issues, couldn't reopen Chrome, turned laptop off and back on... Read more

A:DISPLAY PROBLEM Ideapad U310 Touch

Hi DILEMMA123,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As I understand that you are facing issues with your Ideapad U310 touch display, however when you power on the unit there is power but  no display and the screen remains black.

Here are the troubleshooting steps that you may try
Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help. - Start by doing a hard reboot, remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds then try booting it up again. - If this will not work, do test the AC adapter if it's working properly. Remove the battery and power the laptop with just the AC adapter connected and see if it will boot up or not. do also try a different AC adapter that has the same voltage and see if it will work or not. - Proceed with reseating the RAM's if trying a different AC adapter will not work, remove them all for couple of seconds then put them back in making sure everything is seated properly. - If it will still not work, connect an external monitor and see if you'll get any display from it. If there's a display on the external monitor that could mean that the problem is the built in display.  - But if there's still no display on the external monitor that means the problem lies in the motherboard.
In addition, here are further service centers that you can also check
I hope the above information helps.

I just purchased my u310 touch from Staples tonight.  Within the first hour, while using it, it just shut off.  No "Windows is shutting down..." screen.  It was like it just ran out of battery (even though it was plugged in and the icon said it was plugged in and charging at 55%). After some googling and seeing similar issues with the 310 and the 410, I tried installing the latest drivers that the support staff on this forum linked.  I installed every single one relevant to my machine, ensuring I chose the correct driver for my OS (win8 64).  Still  happening. The event viewer shows: Source: Kernel Power.  Description: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first.  This error coudl be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. So, I reset everything back to factory settings using the built-in restore partition.  Still broken. I'm at a loss here.  Any ideas?  If I can't figure it out soon, I'll just return it to Staples in a few days.  Thank god they have a great return policy!

hi duckhunter9,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you try to:
1. Download and install HWMonitor and observe your CPU and GPU temps. (if you reach temps above 100C, overheating might be the cause of your issue)

2. Perform a clean boot and observe the PC. (this isolates 3rd party apps that might be the cause of the problem)

Let me know your findings,

Hello Lenovo,I'm a business management student from India.I purchased Lenovo Ideapad U310 Touch model this May from the US (through Amazon) and have been using it without any issues till the last month. Last month I noticed that the hinge had developed tension and there was additional pressure on the lid or the screen area while closing. I thought it would be a routine issue and took it to my college's hardware repair center, but they suggested I handle the issue via Lenovo Support as it required opening the laptop. When I checked Lenovo support through customer care (India), I was told that the U series is not covered by International warranty. But I checked if the Lenovo service center would still have a look at the issue, to which I was told that it would be chargeable. I thought it was fair enough and took the laptop to the service center in Jamshedpur this afternoon. To my utter disappointment, the technician was unable to open up the area near the screen (where the problem was supposedly), but he also got the screen cracked while trying to. Now I'm left with a laptop that cannot be used as even though the screen display is intact, the touch sensors detect screen touch near the cracked area and keep the cursor rooted to that point. Also, the issue with the hinge could also not be fixed. All to add to the woes, I will have to manage a few days (don't know how many) without a laptop and also shell out the expense from my pocket! Now my question is, will the screen for Ideapad... When I run the command prompt to identify the BIOS it is blank where it should show which version I have. When pressing the NOVO button I receive the option screen to boot to BIOS or Boot Management screen but no matter what option I select the OS boots regularly. Is there any known solutions for this. When searching the drivers and downloads section with the computer in question no BIOS files appear. Thanks

Hello, I recently installed a new SSD in my U310 laptop and put Windows 10 on it. Everything was working fine until I ran the Bios update found on Lenovo's website located here. After the update installed without any error messages, the machine rebooted and I was left looking at the boot menu. I selected the ssd and the screen went blank for 15 seconds or so and then the boot menu appeared again. I've restarted the machine several times, tried booting from usb, and even tried putting the old hard drive back in but I just keep getting the blank screen and then back to the boot menu. Nothings working. When the computer first starts it doesn't show a lenovo logo or any text. Because of this it seems that I'm unable to get into the bios too. What do I do here? Hi TC22 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can consider LCD panel replacement first since performance and functions are ok.
This can be considered specially if connecting to an external monitor shows normal.

Using the part number to search for parts from the parts looks up page for pricing and availability.

Hope this help answer your query.

Dear All, Hope all of you are very good! My name is Eduardo and I'm from Brazil. I have a ultrabook U310 touch from Lenovo, s/n QB06816995, and I am in a terrible problem! The screen of this ultrabook is broken and I'm using an external VGA monitor at this moment. I have connected the external VGA monitor in the HDMI port of the ultrabook using a HDMI/VGA cable. Using an external monitor I'm not able to see the BIOS or boot screens when I turn on the ultrabook. The first screen that I have seen is the Windows logon (maybe because in that moment, the operating system has sent a signal to an external monitor and in the boot this situation doesn't happen). The problem is: I want and I have to install a new operating system in this ultrabook once I can't enter into the original SO anymore, and for doing that, I have to access the BIOS and change the priority of booting in order to use a windows bootable pendrive or DVD. I have already tried to do the following steps: 1) to use the keys to change from the main screen to an external monitor; 2) disconnect the battery for 15 seconds and drain the energy in order to do the first step again; 3) remove the HDD and connect it in another computer to format it using a wintohdd software and assemble it again in the ultrabook; 4) to do the third step without using the wintohdd software; 5) look at the youtube and try to find some videos where I could watch someone doing something i... Hello, Thank you for your time, my issue started with a broken screen, I asked for a replacement through mail, when I installed the new screen it seemed to work fine. At a certain time of turning off the computer and starting it, the resolution is off by 86 pixels horizontal, the original resolution is 1366x768 (16:9), and now shows 1280x800 or multiples (w=1280,h=*). At first I thought it was an issue with drivers with Windows 10 the forums entries I found seem to indicate this, tried all of them. I also tried the custom screen resolution tool from Intel, it adds the resolution inside the tool, but it does not list the new resolution in the "graphics properties" section. With no luck at solving the problem I tried to boot a GNU/Linux Live version from a FlashDrive, with GNU/Linux showing the same resolution limitation. I've noticed that going to the BIOS is showing the same screen usage. After this, my old screen still works it just the crystal that got cracked, I reinstalled and noticed that has the same screen size problem, so is not the new screen it seems. This is the point till I've gotten, don't know much about UEFI maybe it saves screen resolution information at a place I can't reach, and is not adapting itself correctly imposing it screen scan to the OS that start to work after UEFI. The only thing that comes to mind. Your help is appreciated,Thank you.

But I was wondering if the Hinge covers are different on this particular model depending on the screen used? I know some of the 7000 series have different hinge covers, but not sure about the 5000 series.
Comparing photos on Google has been inconclusive and I am unable to find a part number.

Recently I have noticed that the hinge of my Y50-70 is slowly opening. Pictures here.  It is a known issue of this model that the left hinge is plauged by a design flaw, which will sooner or later cause the screen to crack/whole hinge area to break/whole screen to dangle on its right hinge only. I seek advice on how to loosen the left hinge nut, as I have read that this would fix the problem I'm facing. Would this prevent any future damage to the laptop caused by the hinge? Could anyone post a step-by-step video detailing how I should loosen this hinge nut and also how to put the laptop back together after that? Please and thank you! PS: I have done a lot of research online but have come up inconclusive on whether loosening the left hinge nut is effective in preventing any future damage. I also failed to find a clear video detailing how to do this. I have never in my life taken apart a laptop.

I see that other users have had the same issue as what I am having. 9 months after my warranty expired my hinge failed and ripped the plastic off the screen. It was just stuck and was pulling on the screen plastic. My screen no longer comes on. My computer is not yet 2 years old! When I tried calling customer service (in Phillipines - this is how you know a company gave up), everyone pretended to not know anything about this known issue. I requested manager call back several times, and it's been 2 weeks no call back!Furthermore, someone is telling my extended warranty through Visa that this is accidental damage, and you know nothing about this problem, so now they won't cover the damage either.I demand something in writing saying this is a known issue, so that I can at least get it covered though my extended warranty! You clearly know about it, there are quite a few forum posts about it!Last effort, then class action!Thx.

I got the Lenovo U430 Touch in late August and have noticed that the screen hinge wasn't very sturdy but it was still working fine. But today the hinge is broken and I can't close the screen properly without adjusting it. I didn't drop it or damage it and I looked it up and saw that other people were having similar issues and saying it was a production failure. Is there anyway I can get a replacement or do I have to send it in for repairs? I'm in college and I'll be needing it for a couple more weeks so I can't send it in for repairs yet. And is the $99 fee not covered by the warranty? I called Lenovo support and they said they can't look at my laptop until I pay the fee. I feel like the quality of Lenovo has declined recently. Any help would be appreciated.

A:U430 Touch Screen Hinge

I'm in the same situation as you.  I bought a U430 Touch in August and today the hinge on the left side broke when I closed it.  It's absurd that a hinge would break under normal use and not be covered by the warranty.  As far as I can tell I am going to have to send it in, although Best Buy (where I bought it) was more helpful than Lenovo.  I think Best Buy will pay the shipping and the $99 fee for me.  Since I need the computer for work I am going to wait to send it in.

I am really discomforted now. The hinge was always dodgy as it would rock a little but I gave it the benefit of doubt as this happens with quite a lot of laptops but I never imagined that being such a costly laptop, something like this would happen to my laptop. I contacted Lenovo and the assistant said that he will look into the issue and will email me a copy of the issue, but that never happened. I wonder why. I am not sure what else to do than raise a query here. Thanks,Renovatio66

As posted on page 3 of this discussion, a solution has been offered to customers within warranty whose laptops display hinge mount failures and have not otherwise been damaged. This information can be found here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-U-and-S-Series-Notebooks/IdeaPad-U530-Touch-Hinge-struck/m-p/203...

Any updates on the U530 Touch? I am having the same problems as everyone else in these threads 1- a broken hinge and cracked screen. I now have a desktop with no touch screen rather than a laptop with a touch screen, 2 - a lack of response from Lenovo (never got my call within 3 days) and 3 - No local tech will touch it.

Hi - new to the forum but I see others have had this problem.  The laptop has suddenly developed this fault (left hand side of the screen/hinge coming away).  We  have had the laptop just over two years (John Lewis purchase so we are over the warranty perioid).  I am trying to find out if it can be repaired and who I should take it or send it to. Have approached local computer company (independent) and a company at this website http://www.lenovorepairer.co.uk/ to see if either can do it and how much it would cost.  Has anyone asked Lenovo directly to do repair and can it be done? There seems to be a general fault which others have experienced and commented on - our laptop has been used very carefully so really disappointed with this fault.  I doubt I would get any joy from complaining to Lenovo but is it worth a try?Any comments and experiences welcome.

Reply from Lenovo Support for my caseWe have received your case that is tied to machine with serial # QBXXXXXXXX. We are currently showing that machine went out of warranty on 7/4/2015. Due to the extreme length since it went out of warranty. At this time Lenovo is not able to offer a free repair on this machine. If we were maybe a few months after it went out of warranty we might have been able to assist. But due to the fact that we are now 11 months out of warranty and we can't cover a machine for such an extended period of time. There has to be a definite end to the warranty. At this time Lenovo will not take any further action on this case. My Response to above messageThank you for your response and looking into this issue at your earliest. Please refer to link here which has listed this issue as widespread issue for Ideapad U530 model and has offered to repair the laptop. Moreover this issue has been widespread issue on your other laptop models as well like U310, U310 touch and U410, U410 touch. This shows that there is design flaw in all of these laptops. Since this is design flaw at company end it will manifest sometime or other. In my case it has happened late since I have been using this laptop with more care comparative to other users who are having same issue earlier in the life of laptop. It is not expected of world class company like Lenovo to keep manufacturing such defective laptop.I have other Lenovo T430 purchased after 3 months of this laptop and it does... Read more

Bought the S410p Touch mid 2014, and the left hinge of the notebook broke off late 2015. Prior to the hinge bending and coming off, cracking sounds were often heard when I open/close the notebook. It even caused a visible crack behind the screen and I have honestly never dropped or damaged the laptop. The touch screen is currently not working and I'm pretty sure its due to the crack that affected the screen. Frustrated, I went to the nearest Lenovo Technical Support to try to get this fixed under warranty but they insisted it was physical damage and did not approve my laptop under the warranty conditions.  Extremely frustrated and disappointed. Anyone else having this issue with their S410p Touch Ideapad?

Did you have any luck with this issue?  I had the same issue with my U530.  The hinge kept getting harder and harder to open and evenually, the top of the laptop just broke off.  It was out of warranty by 2 months when it happened so I didn't do anything about it until I saw several other people who had similar issues.

I love my Lenovo Y50-70 touch screen, but I need to replace my screen and I don't know which one to buy. Also, my screen doesn't look like any on the You Tube videos. It does NOT have a 1/2" frame running around it. It has a very thin, maybe 18" frame.Anyway, more to the point. How do I determine:- if it is IPS-if it has a 30 or 40 pin connector-highest resolution? (3840 x 2160 or 1920 x 1080) If anyone knows where I can find a video on how to change out my particular screen, please let me knowThanks in advance for any help! Chris

I have a 17 in HP Envy Touch Laptop, and the Left hinge is broken. WHen the screen is opened it pushes the case out. I see this same issue on your chat boards and trying to see if there is something I can do to fix it.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forum.

I purchased a Lenovo Y50-70 from Best Buy 60 days ago as my husband's primary computer for work, which he does from home.  It does not travel with him, just sits in the same place in our home. (i.e. no physical damage on our part from careless use).  A couple of days ago, the hinges made a creaking noise when my husband opened it.  The next time he opened it, the plastic piece that covers the hinge popped off.  Then we could see that the left hinge was "frozen" and not opening or closing at all, however, it had also pulled away from the screen and top cover and the screen was beginning to separate from the cover.
Thinking we had purchased a decent model (~$1150), we took it back to Best Buy but they said Lenovo tied their hands in being able process any kind of return.  I called Lenovo Customer Service (who said they couldn't authorize a return) and Technical Support (who also said they would not authorize a return).  The Best Buy manager offered to call Lenovo Customer Service, and did so while I waited in their store.  An hour later, and multiple transfers between departments, Tech Services said only Post-Sales could help us and they weren't open until Monday (today).  So today I called Post-Sales and was immediately told that only Tech Services could help.
Finally someone in Tech Services said they could have us send in the laptop for diagnosis but it was cosmetic so we would be charged a couple hundred dollars for the repair.&... Read more

A:Y50-70 Touch only - customer review - broken hinge...

I recently got a Y50 Touch PC. It worked well, no problems. I handled it well too. Now, there is a problem with the hinge. The 2 hinges attach the base of the laptop to the monitor (metal chassis, not the screen) with glue. Now the left hinge got detached as the glue was not able to hold it. Now the screen flexes when I close or open it. I was very disappointed to find something attached with glue on an otherwise good quality product. I could not find any place to report this to lenovo, so i posted this here. Any guide will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,  I have a problem with a hindge in Lenovo Y50-70. I found many people having the same problem: for example here. My hindge popped out without even moving the laptop from his place. I used it only at home and was normally closing the laptop when it happened. Unfortunately from the hinge a **bleep** on the screen was created as well.  This is really dissapointing and discouraging because this model cost me about 1000 dollars and haven't last even 2 years. Can someone from the customer service please contact me todiscuss this issue?  ??

So I purchased my Ideapad U530 Touch two years ago and unfortunately I had an extremely common hardware failure occur after my warranty period. One day, without reason or warning, my left hinge on my laptop completely failed when I went to open it. The hinge was stuck in the closed position and when opened it seperated from the laptop screen with a series of unexpected cracks and pops. I spent over $1,000 on this laptop expecting it to make it through my years at college but now I am left with a laptop barely connected to it's built-in monitor. I contacted lenovo support and the support rep even admitted that this is an extremely common occurence but stated that since I am out of warranty, I am basically out of luck and $1,000. You can easily google or search these forums and find that this is obviously a fault in the Lenovo design but they stated that nothing can be done because they can't put me in the system even. The support rep sounded extremely foreign and was unwilling to provide me with any help other than calling Best Buy and paying for a repair. My problem with this is that if I was "lucky" enough to have this design flaw happen during my warranty, I would be provided a repair. But since I was unlucky and had it occur after, I basically lost my money. To me, this is absolutely horrendous customer service for a company that I am sure has billions of dollars in profit. They sold me a flawed laptop that was destined to break at some point and now I have no ch... Read more
