I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I apologize for my english in advance.
Yesterday I update my laptop to Windows 8.1(full specifications are available in my profile).
Then I noticed the following: The icon of DVD drive was changed and:
"Drive is powered off. To turn on the optical drive, press the eject button on the optical drive".
After pressing the DVD drive is powered on, but after few minutes it powered off again.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I have a pc that was configured for network use at work. Originally it was Windows NT, now it's XP. I use it as a standalone at home. Whenever I perform a shutdown, it will stay off for a few minutes (approx 10-15) then automatically it will power on and start booting up.

It's the weirdest thing. I shut it down, the power light goes off, then a few minutes later I'm watching TV or something and it turns back on. Any ideas?

I have some problems with the Lenovo software. Lenovo Account Portal does not launch Lenovo Companion and Lenovo Settings. Also, Lenovo Solution Center is missing from the Start Menu. The second problem is that some tiles are blank in Start Menu. Seemingly it's the apps that aren't Metro. I'm not sure when the problem started, but I think it was like that since I got the PC. If I right click the apps, the only option will be "Pin to Start", and with some apps: Share and Rate. Here's a picture of the problem:I did already try:Restarting the PC.Doing scannow, DISM, and scannow again.Fixing Registry errors with CCleaner.Updating BIOS and drivers. What can I do to fix the problem?

..and which do not.

I had a question: How do i get to the little menu where I can choose which applications automatically start up when Windows starts up and which do not? I forgot how to get to that menu but I remember that I could check and uncheck which things would start up, etc. The reason for this is because everytime I start windows, it tries to load my scanning software which I don't need started anymore due to the scanner not being connected at all anymore, and the uninstallation not going as properly as it should of.. but it just bugs me that it tries to connect to the scanner (with about 3-4 attempts) when Windows starts so this is my best option...

Any idea?

Dear All, I got a user who asked me to downgrade from Windows 10 to 7 on his yoga 3. I'm encountering a lot of problems since when I tried to start the windows 7 installation both from usb boot and CD, the system gives me an error regarding some driver missing. I performed a low level format so the PC is clean. After some researches I understood that the problem could be related to the usb3.0 drivers that are missing on the win7 image. So I tried to upgrade the .wim with the DISM feature using the CMD. This didn't work either.  Honestly at this point I don't know how to proceed. I used both 2.0 and 3.0 bootable usb drives (with the driver update) and I tried with the Installation CD. Do you have any suggestion? Thanks for your help Kind Regards, Alessio

hello master2 of seven forums,

here i have a problem, which is my pc can get very fast on boot to windows, around 60 sec or less, but the main problem is, i must wait around 30 minutes before i can do anything, like browsing, start winamp, etc. because when i clicked, the PC will be frozen.

i can start task manager, and this is what i see on physical memory:
total 16345
cached 13280
available 13266
free 0

there is lot of available memory, but free was 0. is this the main problem?

btw, my rig is :

intel core i7-3770K 3,5 GHZ
16 gb ram
nvidia geforce gtx 550 ti
windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

thanks a lot.

Have you tried booting to Safe Mode? I would also try clicking "Start" then type msconfig in the "Search Programs and Files" box. Highlight it and hit "Enter". After that, go to the "Startup" tab and uncheck all of the boxes. Reboot if asked and see what happens then. If everything suddenly works right off the bat then you know that something loading on startup is crippling your system. Re-enable them one-by-one and when the problem comes back you'll know the last one is the culprit.

Are you running a dual-boot setup with Windows 7 and another OS? If you type msconfig into the start menu and click the 'Boot' tab you have options for timeout etc.

One day my friend told me to hold the windows button and press L. This took me to that screen where you see all your user accounts and click the icon to log on. Anyways ever since I did that, whenever I turn my computer on it goes into this screen instead of just logging onto my account (which is the only account on this computer). Also, whenever my screensaver comes up, it goes to this screen. So any one please tell me how to let it automatically log onto my account, and not go onto this screen when my computer goes to screensaver. I'm running windows XP with SP2.

Windows show this notification when booting: Windows Defender needs to scan your computer
but they don't start the scan automatically. We must press "scan" to do that.

Microsoft already included a Task Scheduled for Windows Defender.
Can we modify some settings in this Task Scheduled so Windows Defender will start automatically when the system boot (Power / Shut Down or Restart / Login)?

Or it's better to create a new Task Scheduled?

Is it better to create two tasks?
A task that automatically executes Windows Defender in "quick" mode once a day and another task that executes Windows Defender in "Full system scan" mode once a week?

What does mean "-ScheduleJob" in "Add arguments (optional): Scan -ScheduleJob (cf.below)" ?

I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 laptop just over a year old. My Autistic little man was happily playing Roblox when it crashed. He turned it off and on again and the laptop says repairing disk errors and just stays like that day and night. So I have bought Windows 10 on USB as it doesn't have a disk drive but and I stupidly thought it would be as simple as plugging it in the USB drive and hey presto it would be fixed. But it's not.

Could anyone explain the steps I need to take to fix it as I promised my son I'd get it done by now and when you set an Autistic child's expectations and you don't meet them, woe betide you!

Please help.

Thank you x

Hello all!

A couple of days ago, my son's Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 seemed to stop working. Whenever he turns it on, it first shows the blue Intel screen, then shows a screen that says,
"Windows did not run correctly. In what way would you like to boot?"
- Safe Mode
- Safe Mode with Networking
- Safe Mode with Command Panel
- Last Known Good Configuration
- Start Windows Normally

I have tried every option, but it automatically reboots every time it reaches to the Windows XP Loading Screen with the moving bar. The bar seems to rotate two times, then on the third time it freezes and goes back to the blue Intel screen. As I have mentioned above, I have tried loading it into Safe Mode, but it just does the same: reboot.

This began to happen right after my son stopped playing Counter Strike: Source, a game by Steam. After he closed the game, the computer was non-responsive, so he held the off-button. He then turned it on, and it began automatically rebooting.

Any help would be appreciated!

A:Windows XP Cannot Start; Continues to Automatically Reboot

try this.

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
Click the Advanced tab.
Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.
Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.
Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.
that should bring up the bsod and it will give you an error code (i think. its been a while). you can use the error code to find the problem.

Hi Guys, I have this small but sometimes annoying problem with my WinXP Home SP2 desktop computer. Everything was running smoothly then one day when I booted my PC, My Computer pops up automatically after signing in to my user account, funny thing is even the other user accounts on the same machine has the same exact problem, tried running System Restore but it did not fix anything, I also tried running several antivirus and antispyware but non of them detected that there is anything that disrupts the normal OS start up or a virus that causes the computer to behave that way , last thing I want to do is to format my HDD because my back up HDD just crashed. Any insights will be greatlly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A:When I Start Windows, "my Computer" Pops Up Automatically

This is definately unusual...I guess that you could checked to see if "My Computer" was somehow added to the start menu. Some versions of Anti-Virus or Anti-Spyware allow you to control your start-up menu...Check to see if My Computer is included in one of them. Another idea is to run "msconfig" from the command prompt and check under the "start-up" tab or maybe under "services" to see what is running at the time...Other than that, I just don't know...

Hello. I have (in the past few months) been having issues starting my Lenovo G570 laptop, which runs on Windows 7 (unsure what bit), with AVG 2015 as its antivirus. It will turn on, and display the 'Starting Windows' screen. However, it will not load past this point, no matter how long I leave it.

Upon pressing the power button, the screen will read that there is an error and gives me two option: system repair or start normally. The system repair option then brings me to a page that will scan and prompt a restore - however, this restore does not work as it must completely reboot to complete the restore, which is not possible due to the fact that it sticks on the Starting Windows page.

Another option is the F8 menu. From this menu, I have tried most of the options with sufficient loading time to allow my laptop to process. Not a single one of the three safe mode options will boot, and stops loading at AVG's files (which leads me to believe it is my antivirus). I have also attempted repair system and last known config, both of which ultimately prompt a system restore. I have attempted numerous system restores at different dates, and none of them are successful. Starting today, I have also received errors stating that the restore can not be accomplished.

This is all of the information I have at the moment, but I will add on as I come across errors.
Any advice would be lovely!
