X250 Screen Hinge

Q: X250 Screen Hinge

Hi all, I recently purchased a brand new X250 laptop, I am slightly concerned though that the hinges are not quite up to scratch. I was expecting really tight, rigid hinges, with no play or movement at all. I was under the impression these would be really tight and the only way to open, close, or move the screen would be by holding one hand on the base and the other to adjust the lid. However, with mine, they do feel very weak and loose. When typing, there is movement of a few milimetres of wobble which I was not quite expecting. Is there anything I could do to tighthen these hinges myself? I am not comfortable at all to take the laptop apart! I did wonder if wrapping dental floss around the metal part of the hinge would make a difference as it seems that the hinge is not going through completely. One side has the cables, and the other is attached to the base. What would be your suggestions? It does of course have a warranty with Lenovo - but I am concerned as well as I have read that hinges might not be covered by warranty! There are no cracks at all in the unit whatsoever. No damage, and the problem is always when the laptop is on the desk. I really appreciate any help and suggestions with this matter. Many thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just contact technical support. It is covered under warranty. If they break, then it is considered abuse, which is not covered under warranty.

Hello all, I am looking to get an x250 but I have a question about the screen. Speaking to my boss who has an x240 he experienced quite a lot of ghosting issues with the IPS screen. I was wondering if these issues have been corrected for the model or should I just go with the TN screen and not risk it? I tried contacting Lenovo sales and customer support and got very unhelpful  answers such as "it is a new model therefore it makes sense it will have new parts" and "we can not give part details to customers". They even told me there had not been any reported issues with the x240 screens, when I have found multiple forum posts about people getting their screens repaired it and have seen the ghosting for myself.  Does anyone here have an x250 with an IPS screen and if so have they seen any ghosting issues?

A:x250 screen issues?

I have the FHD IPS display on my X250. I am not really sure what "ghosting" is since I have never experienced it. However, I can say that the screen is very sharp and I'm very happy with the way it displays text, photos, and HD videos.

Hi, I have x250 (MTM20CLS7HU00) and looking to upgrade from the 720p to 1080p, now what I see on lenovo website that my laptop lcd panel supports these models: Mfg part#04X032404X032504X043300HN889 and I assume all of them are HD only, any idea if 00HM745 OR 00HN899 would work instead of 04X0324 which is currently installed ? Also where can I buy genuine one from Lenovo instead from 3rd party sites, as mine still in warranty and afraid that I might lose it. Thanks a lot,

Hi guys, I have been browsing through the forums and trying various 'solutions' without success. My Lenovo Thinkpad x250 has a black screen and I have run out of ideas on how to fix this. A few points:- Sometimes (maybe 1/20 times) the lenovo logo comes on before the screen 'remembers' to go black- I have tried to turn on in BIOS and still black screen- It works perfectly well with VGA cable- I have Intel (R) Graphics 5500 as the only option in Display Adpaters. It is up to date at the time of posting (Vers. 20.19.15.4835) - The issue started after I left the laptop at work 'updating'. It clearly updated and I believe the black screen came after restarting (when updates were complete)- First couple of days the screen would come on if I connect VGA for a few minutes and remove it - weird! This doesn't happen anymore- I have opened the back and screen and it looks like the connecting cables are all intact-Everytime I turn the laptop on I can definitely see a change in the shade of black on screen - goes from black to what looks like a very dark grey (nearly black) Does anyone know how to fix this? Very sorry if I am repeating a solved question, I haven't come accross a solution that has worked yet.

Is it possible to retrofit an IPS touchscreen panel into an x250 laptop? I have bought a new touch display and although the display works, touch does not. The laptop did not originally come with a touch. There are lots of threads on the topic...some say yes and some just don't answer.  The shop says it is also possible and just requires a firmware update.  (which i can't find anywhere)Any help would much appreciated. L.

Hi everybody,New to Lenovo, have a sily question. Purchased secondhand Lenovo x250, after registration with Microsoft as the notebook asked (previous owner deleted everything and cleaned, put back to a factory status) but after shut down and turning on again a rainbow colored picture shows , with date and time on it, but it wont change no matter what key I press. It would disappear shortly, showing  a display of "Please wait" , but after that the previous colored display would show up again. So there is nothing happening. No apps nothing. Any idea what I should do? Thanks a lot.

Other Thinkpads I use (past and current) with backlit keyboards turned off the backlight when power saving dimmed and.or turned off the display.  This X250 is not behaving that way.  The keyboard backlight stays on after the screen dims.  Is this expected behavior on some machines?  I prefer the keyboard light to turn off when the screen dims. (I had this same issue with a T440s that was never resolved either)

Hi,I have a laptop Lenovo Y40-70 and some odd plastic circles came out from it other day (it was in the desk, under the laptop). Then I realized that it started to get hard to open and close the screen.  I removed the plastic cover that is in the edge of the lcd screen to take a look in what could be wrong. And here are some pictures: Left hinge (revit broken):   Rigth hinge (revit without problem):   Plastic Circles (revit heads):That odd plastic circles that came out are like a plastic rivet and it are used to hold a metalic plate that connects the lcd structure to the hinge of the screen. In the absence of it the plate is bending and will brake very soon if it continues like that.I am leaving the screen open for now until I found a way to fix it. I put some oil in the hinge for now, but it didn't give me any softness to open and close the screen. Any one have suggestions how to fix it?

Hi,I purchased a Envy m6 in 2013 (now out of warranty). Approximately 1 year ago I noticed the plastic hinges would make a slight noise when opening the screen to 90degrees. I soon noticed the right plastic hinge was cracked and when open the black screen surround would be separating from the silver outside cover. After time it had progessed to separating the screen approximately 1-2cm. I have never dropped or damaged this laptop, and has had very minimal use over the last 3 years. I used to be able to click the screen back together when closing the lid quite easily. As of today it is very difficult to push the screen back together when closed.I have seen many posts on the internet about this problem. Does hp fix this problem? This laptop doesnt even leave the computer desk. Hardly gets used, maybe a handful of times a month for no more than 1hour at a time. I have been unable to use my laptop since November because I'm scared of the screen breaking.

My U410 touch took a bit of a knock recently and now has a damaged hinge that prevents the laptop from closing properly. The screen has also come away from the top casing slightly which, combined with the broken hing has cause the tip of the corner of the screen to snap off.I took it to Currys PC World the other day and they sent it off to the KnowHow repair centre. I just had a call from them telling me it would cost over 500 to replace. I feel like it must be possible to fix for less than this. Does anyone have any experience with this issue? I need to get it fixed asap and if that's not possible then I'll have to buy a new laptop which would not be ideal.

I got the Lenovo U430 Touch in late August and have noticed that the screen hinge wasn't very sturdy but it was still working fine. But today the hinge is broken and I can't close the screen properly without adjusting it. I didn't drop it or damage it and I looked it up and saw that other people were having similar issues and saying it was a production failure. Is there anyway I can get a replacement or do I have to send it in for repairs? I'm in college and I'll be needing it for a couple more weeks so I can't send it in for repairs yet. And is the $99 fee not covered by the warranty? I called Lenovo support and they said they can't look at my laptop until I pay the fee. I feel like the quality of Lenovo has declined recently. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm in the same situation as you.  I bought a U430 Touch in August and today the hinge on the left side broke when I closed it.  It's absurd that a hinge would break under normal use and not be covered by the warranty.  As far as I can tell I am going to have to send it in, although Best Buy (where I bought it) was more helpful than Lenovo.  I think Best Buy will pay the shipping and the $99 fee for me.  Since I need the computer for work I am going to wait to send it in.

The hinge on my computer broke last night all of a sudden. Nothing has happened to the computer; I've never dropped it, nothing has hit it, nothing has happened that should cause it to break. When it broke, the screen fell forward and it cracked the screen. I have looked everywhere on this website for someone to contact about how to get it fixed but all I can find is a link to FedEx to begin a service order. Has this ever happened to anyone else and does anyone know how much it would be to get it fixed? Is it worth it to ship it to Lenovo or would it be better to take it to a local repair person? Unfortunately the warrenty ended about six months ago.

Hi all,

November last year I was given a Satellite L50-B-1LN from the DSO of my university to aid my dyslexia as I'd never really owned a decent laptop.

Since then I have treated it with great care, so you can imagine I wasn't too happy when the right hand hinge connecting screen and body became stiff a few weeks ago.

At the time I didn't think anything of it thinking there could something caught in there that will dislodge over time.
This was not the case however, as I found out a few days back, part of the interior metal frame of the screen had been bending and has now snapped and is now sticking out behind the screen, as the force of it breaking took away some of the plastic casing.

The laptop is less than a year old so I'm disappointed that the hardware has broken in such a manner, it's designed to be opened and closed! The wire to the screen is now exposed so I would like this resolved sooner rather than later.
Other than this the laptop is fully functional and in good condition.

Since then I've tried to find an appropriate number on the Toshiba website but had no success, I just seem to be going in circles and I'm not really sure what to do next.

My supplier isn't any chain like Curry's or PC world, so I can't exactly take it there.

Any advice on how to go about this would be appreciated.

I've attached some photo's of the damage.

Thanks

Cameron

How did you fix it? I know my way around a computer, so it shouldnt be too hard to do it myself, but what should I look out for?  Thank you for your time!

Can someone please advise where to repair this from?? I am based in Uganda but will be travelling to San Francisco and Los Angeles soon.

A:17" HP Envy Coming apart at the left near screen hinge

Wow, my 15" HP Envy looks almost exactly the same and the hinge is no longer fixed.  I assumed the problem was because I found a screw under the laptop yesterday but when I tried to screw it back in it went through the housing and inside the computer.  Apparently the screw then caused a problem with the fan and I need a fix as well.  I spent several hours this morning being passed back and forth between the US and Slovak companies because I'm a US customer currently located in Slovakia and according the the support desk I need to put my laptop in a box and mail it to someone in the US if I want it fixed because somehow, and god knows how this is cost effective, the fan for a computer that's sold in the US is not available in Europe.  I'm sorry I don't have a better answer to your question, but my experience suggests you may not get service in the US unless you bought your laptop there and if someone from Support tells you they will service your computer you should check with multiple people.  The first Support person I talked to assured me the Slovak's would fix my fan when he told me to contact them, only to find out after being transferred 4 different times that in fact they won't.   I wish you good luck getting your laptop fixed and I'll let you know if I find any decent solutions but so far all I've been able to figure out is that its likely better to spend my har... The lightly used screen hinge on my Lenovo Y50 just broke, and like many other people, I contacted Lenovo about it. I was told it was "not really a known issue" and that they wouldn't do anything because it's no longer under warranty. I informed the person that a quick search found hundreds of reports of the exact same problem, including on the Lenovo forum, but they refused to acknowledge anything. How disappointing. I will try again to get a more honest acknowledgement of the issue. If that fails, it will certainly be the last computer I buy from Lenovo. I guess that's the only recourse we have. Just buy a different product next time and hope enough people do the same so that the company eventually changes its practices.

Hello,

I have the same exact problem. My warranty expired a couple of months ago. Even so, it would have been terribly in convenient for me to sent my laptop out and wait weeks on end to repair a problem that seems to just be a design flaw. The broken hinge has caused the entire bottom right corner of the sceen to break away. Please advise on options.
Thank you

The screen hinge on the left side broke on Monday, and when I try to close the screen, it appears that it is bending the screen frame.  So I'm going to leave it open temporarily, for fear of ruining the screen.  Could someone at HP please be in touch with me about the options for dealing with this?  Otherwise the computer is fully functional, except that it is no longer portable, since I can't close the screen. Thanks!

I like many others have the whole case cracking issue on my Envy - yes it is out of warranty but I special ordered and spent a bundle so that I could get 5 years out of it not 2.  I tried to extend the warranty but that was a complete CLUSTER and never happened - I have lost my job and cannot afford a new computer and use it for my part time job.  This is a home computer and moves from my home office to my living room - rarely ever leaves the house and is in pristene condition.  Trouble with the answers in this forum is that they are all PM's, except for the ones who have described how to take the machine apart which I can't really risk doing on my own.  Like Dell, HP quality has gone down the toilet!!

Right hinge of my envy m6 is broken in a way that the two side covers of my lid separate when I close the lid. It's the same problem as requested by many others. I rely on my laptop for my work and cannot afford to send it for repair for a week. Any help would be appreciated.
