Lost pics for good? =[

Q: Lost pics for good? =[

Okay, I recently reformatted. Turned out to be all hardward issues. Got a new motherboard and dvd-rw. But! I idioticly backed up pics on CDs. Well, the old DVD-rw was crapping out and all my pics came through except for one disc. Which gave me about half. Even a folder is split. Some pics recognized others not recognized by photoviewer or paint! There are some old pics on there that i want. I was in a rush to fix my computer before school started and didn't think it through. i know i should've backed them up online or an external or thumbdrive or something! Is there anything i can do... i'm pretty heart broken to lose these photos. I hope someone can help.

So I just tried to use unstoppable copier- a product known to save corrupted files and the like. And nothing, didn't work... this is looking grim. Please, oh great computer wizard, come forth and restore what has been lost.... i'm so doomed.

Preferred Solution: Lost pics for good? =[

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Panasonic 6MP camera....takes good pics and although I am only taking JPEGs (not TIFF) pics they are good when viewing on the computer......When I burn them on a CD to view on the TV the resolution drops considerably. even when viewing directly from the camera to the TV it is not all that great???

The TV is a Samsung 67" DLP TV....1080P HD.

Is there anything I can do to get better resolution from these pics to the TV for viewing of everyone?

Also, I have NERO for burning a CD of the pics to the player on the tv for viewing.....should I be using something else OR should I be burning to a DVD for better resolution?

I am thinking that the TV size is perhaps just too big such that the resolution gets pixelated when "blowing up" to a larger size??

any tips?

I am new to the board and have a problem. In the past I tried to transfer pictures that I took from a digital camera and transferred to my C drive onto a CD-R. I did this in windows explorer by just highlighting the photo & dragging it to the CD-R. When I got a new computer I again tried this & when I was complete I got a message saying that I needed to "write" these to the CD to complete the process. I am assuming that since I never got that message before on my old computer that everything was OK, but sure enough when I try the other discs they are not able to be read. I get a message asking to insert a disc in my CD drive even though I have a disk in there with data on it. Is there a recovery software I can use or is everything lost?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have several CD's with saved photos. These CD's were created using my old computer with Windows 98SE. I am now using Windows XP Home Edition. When I insert the CD in the D-drive, the computer does not even recognize there's a cd in the drive. I'll go to "my computer" and click on D-Drive and the computer responds with "please insert a disc into the D Drive". Does XP have a problem viewing 98 saved discs?

Hi guys

i was backing up all my pics

I had all of them in one folder on my desktop and then I dragged this folder into my c drive and it just vanished

I have search for the folder name the folders inside and jpegs and mp4s and i cant find any of them anywhere

can someone please help

A:I lost all my pics

Dragging them from your desktop to C is NOT backing them up, don`t worry, unless you deleted them you just dropped them someplace close to the C folder, just start opening them, you`ll find`em

This is why methodically copying and pasting then verifying is better. IMO

Dragging and dropping can result in accidents, like you had.

Hi All hope someone can help!

OK. I had 2 folders of .jpgs. I cut and pasted the contents of Folder one into a new folder (lets call it folder 3). I then cut and pasted the contents of Folder 2 into Folder 3. As there was a conflict of names of some of the items (different pics, but same names that the digital camera gave them) Vista then prompted asking what i wanted to do. I clicked the 'Keep both files, change the name of the new files' option. It didn't. Yes i was dumb and should of copied and pasted but i didnt.

Now what i have is a thumbnail showing the original pic (lets say a kayak). If i double click it, i get the 2nd pic (lets say a bird). If i copy the file anywhere, the thumbnail becomes a bird, and the file becomes a bird. I cannot get the kayak to copy or open anywhere.

UNLESS! I click the 'Slideshow' Button in the folder. Then my missing pictures view in the Slideshow (ie the Kayak shows, not the bird!)

Anyone, any ideas??

I have a sony digital camera, a sony USB port, and the Microsoft Picture It! program to view and edit my pics. I was using my mouse to lasso 4 pics and to open them using the Microsoft Picture It! and a pop up came up. I clicked the wrong thing and they are gone, I mean gone. I don't even know what the pop up said. It was a knee jerk respone to say OK, or yes to the pop up. I must have hit the delete button instead of the "open" button. Ah! Are the pics retreivable. I looked at my desktop Recycle Bin, but they are not there. Just thought I'd try. Is there a trash file within my MS Picture It? I am so new to all this that I can't find it, if it exists. I need some help.

Yesterday I decided to move my photos from my hard drive to a CD-R for storage.
I selected the folder "still need to edit" and chose "cut". Then I opened the CD-R using XP and "pasted" the folder on the cd. After XP wrote the folder to the CD-R. I opened the CD to make sure the photos were there, but the only item in the folder is "thumbs.db"
There aren't any pictures!!! Now, the folder is no longer on my hard drive.
Have the pictures been deleted? Or are they possibly somewhere.

Any ideas would be great.

Yesterday I turned on my Pc and I got an error message saying that something was wrong with the registry, I read up on the problem and it said that I could reload windows over the old version without losing any of my files and this would fix the problem.

But when I started Windows again it looked like a new version and I couldn't find any of my old files, I did not format the drive.

Usually I wouldn't care about old files but I went to Portugal in September and brought my two little ghirls and all the photos were on the pc, I'd be gutted if I lost all these pics.

Any help would be much appreciated.

It's a samsung SC-D363. I can firewire the video but I can't get the stillshot pics off because my computer won't recognize them through the USB. We had to re-do the hard drive a while back and we can't find the disc to reinstall the software. I've tried samsung's website but they don't even list this # and they haven't responded to my emails. Isn't there some generic way to pull pics off? Thanks for helping.

A:Anyone know how to download pics off a Samsung camcorder when I've lost the disc?

With the camera plugged in and ready to download look in My Computer to see if it shows as a drive. It works like any other drive and you can copy/paste to whatever folder you want.

With XP and Vista you usually don’t need a driver for still pictures to be downloaded if it works like a digital camera. But the manual says: “If you transfer data to a PC, you need to install the software (DV Driver, Video Codec, DirectX 9.0) supplied with the Camcorder.”

The manual says it shows as a drive, presumably with the drivers.

If you don’t already have DirectX 9 you can get it here. It is probably on your system though. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...20-BFBB-4799-9908-D418CDEAC197&displaylang=en

The driver appears to be here. You can also get the manual.

Hopefully one of the two Windows drivers will have the codec.

Unfortunately this will not work if you still have the factory preinstalled Win7 which uses a mass activation SLP key that does not match the Key on the COA sticker, provided for the purpose of doing a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Your options if the COA sticker key is unreadable are to do Factory Recovery from the Recovery partition or disks you made from it or order from the OEM Tech Support.

There is a way to back up the factory SLP mass activation to reinstall after a Clean Reinstall but it is not supported here.

With just a bit of luck and a decent recovery program like Acronis, Ontrack, HandyRecovery, ZAR, QueTek, Cimaware, and 87 others, you can install your questionable hard drive in another desktop with the good drive jumpered as Master and the one with missing files and folders jumpered as Slave... and recovery anything that has not been overwritten.... so do NOT use that drive for anything until you attempt recovery.

You can also usually find the missing folders with regular tricks and use drag and drop to copy everything... Just be patient, and do the work while well rested and over the stress of the loss.

Hi Guys,

Unfortunately I'm not running windows XP Pro (SP2) with a valid wndows key. I've known this for some time. What happened was, when I took my PC in for a hardware upgrade a long time ago, I told the tech I also wanted to upgrade to WinXP...he thought he'd do me favour and install it using an already-in-use key, and save me the cost of the OS.

Several months ago, after running an automatic update, I started getting the "this copy of windows is not valid - you may be a victim of blah blah blah", so I did a little research and dug up a WGA removal utility which has worked wonders for me (aside from not being able to download wndows updates).

Well, I fired up WMP this morning, and thought I'd try the update to ver. 11 or whatever it is. I didn't think it would check the wndows key just to upgrade media player, but obviously I should have known better. So now everytime I try to launch WMP it tells me I'm running a pirated version of windows and the program will not load. Unfortunately my system restore has not been working for some time (generates the error: "system restore has encountered an error and needs to close" when I try to launch it), so I'm wondering if theres any other way to get WMP back without shelling out $$ for a legit copy of XP.

It's not a huge deal as I only use it for watching videos, but would be nice if there was an easy way to get it back....otherwise, I guess its on to Media Player classic...

I know it may be lost forever but it's worth a shot.

A:Good programs for getting lost file after formatting

Hi, I don't think it's possible to recover, since you have more than likely written over the location when you reinstalled....

The normal way would be to run a recovery tool immediately, but who is prepared for that

And, I dont know if it would work running from the same hard drive> did you by any chance have another partition of the SAME physical hard disk you are running Windows on now? It might pick something up from that, rather than running it on your present active partition where Windows is stored> again, one of the recovery tools just might work but I cannot guarantee anything or that your present copy will survive intact...

You can recover entire volumes (drives) sometimes, but again not if overwritten...if you want to try some of the tools, most of them allow you to use and see what is recoverable before you spend money on it...then, to actually get anything back, it may cost some money.

You have to know what the file system you are using is, NTFS or FAT32 etc....

Here is another pretty good one>
for win9x or XP> and can run from a floppy diskette

i apologise in advance for the slightly Win7 fanboy post

Having been running Win7 in various forms since the RC obviously iv got a bit used to it, but over Xmas i was at my brothers, who is still running a PC with Vista on it,

now his PC actually has higher specs than mine (if you look at my specs you'll see their nothing special) but i found it so.. frustrating, to me, having a taskbar that small now seems alien, words on the taskbar take up too much space, having to wait 5-10 seconds for it to register an action as simple as a right click, a "search" bar in the start menu thats laughable, i typed in EXACTLY what i wanted "disk management" waited nearly a minute for it to search, only to be told "no results found" in 7, i just type "partition" in and it knows what i want, and it had what i call a "fatal hang" (wyhere it doesnt actually crash, but you have to press the power button to get it to sleep and wake up again to restore order) randomly, for no reason about once an hour!

again, apologies for the rant and fanboy win7 bits, but i would like to hear your thoughts on this, anybody else gone back to Vista (whether by choice or not) and wondered how you ever lived without Windows 7

or better yet, anybody gone back to Vista and wondered why on earth people want windows 7?

EDIT: Apologies for the double post.. iv deleted the other one

A:you dont realise how good Win7 is til you've lost it

It all depends on how you use an operating system and the tools in it.
I’ve read that some have gone back to Vista because their Favorite tool(s) was missing ...
or no longer functional.

There are many who went back to XP because Vista was too crippled.
They’ve found that W7 is even worse.

I think it’s interesting to read the "rants" against W7 in the TechNet forum...

This problem seems to be quite ubiquitous, however if I may beg an ear, please hear me out. Perhaps I can help others, even if I cannot be helped.

I would hate to start yet another thread on this problem as I have noticed since the last 3-4 weeks of research on the issue has lead me to hundreds of forums, with dozens of soultions. All of which have not been successful on my side of the screen unfortunately. I can only access the internet through SafeMode with Networking, or running a different operating system like Ubuntu or XP.

I'd imagine windows seven forums has been flooded with a great deal of new members with this particular issue, i myself joined today for this same problem and many windows 7 users seems to be having aswell (not blaming windows 7). Its quite embarrassing for me since I just started a new job in the IT field, but I'm still a newbie tho learning from the ground up.

Anyways, this problem (connected to network, with a good or strong signal - BUT! no internet access?) in the bottom right corner of the task bar. All my solutions listed below, I've found as of yet, have me running in an endless pithagorian spiral to nowhere.

I will now attempt to list my work for the past month on this issue. I may miss a few suggestions, but I am confident I have learned every possible solution with no luck, but I suspect human error and/or incompetence on my part... Here we go.

A:A Lost Cause. No Internet Access - Connected to good Network.

Welcome to the Seven Forums!

Good post. Thx for taking the time to tell us what you have tried.

As silly as it sounds, please try a scan with this (WDO):
What is Windows Defender Offline?
The other scans that you mentioned will only check the partition that Windows is running from. I have two systems that I'm working on that have their infections on another (tiny) partition created by the malware. While I doubt WDO will find anything, it will be a good lesson in how easy it is to use WDO. If your computer can boot to a USB flash drive, I would put WDO on one of those.

Are you using W7's native drivers for the Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter?

If not native - where did you get them from?

I might be away from the forums for a day or two - hopefully, another member will jump in.

Most often when an Iso image is involved, but the image is not bootable, I prefer to use a virtual CD rom emulator to emulate the CD drive rather than fooling with burning to a physical CD. In this case, my virtual drive is UltraIso, which according to support has issues emulating CDs in Windows 7, didn't work giving me the error "E:\application not found". So I tried the old physical burning method. That didn't work either since the disc drive of my laptop simply shot the disc back at me after starting the burning process. The funny thing is that the CD was given to me by my grandfather, and he is very computer savvy, and to his knowledge, I wasn't using the CD for music. Could I have the wrong disc type? My question to you is do you know of any free virtual CD rom drives that can emulate CDs with .img files on them? UltraIso has never had issues with this before the infamous hard drive failure of my laptop late last year. I was on Windows 7 then as well. The other thing is the way Microsoft engineered their Visual Studio installers, they seem to really want you using a CD or virtual CD drive emulator (though they don't say that), since when I used UltraIso's other capability, it's image file extraction function, I was greeted by an err... Make sure when burning the cd ona laptop to use imgburn because the laptop wants to shoot the disc out of the laptop drive before verification on some laptops. Also, make sure to push it back in before the verification process.

I updated to Windows 10 earlier today. I thought I had lost some important work files and some pics of my kiddo from the last 3 months. Found them by looking in the network folder. Copied them to the desktop to remind myself to send a copy to my external hard drive when I got home. Laptop restarted and when it came back on the files were gone. I could search for them and find them but they wouldn't open. In desperation I restored back to Windows 8 in the hopes that they would be found but they are nowhere to be seen. Don't even show up in a search. System restore shows no prior restoration points.
Please, can anyone help me? I have about 70 hours worth of work done that needs done by the end of the calendar year, work that I will have to make up on my own time and not get paid for if I can't find these files. I also have the last 3 months worth of pictures of my daughter on there, her birthday trip to the zoo, visit with my sister, things I want to put in her scrapbook. Please tell me there's a way to find these things!

I don't know a ton about computers but I will answer any questions to the best of my ability

Hi, how did you restore back to Win 8? - in the expected manner using the revert to previous OS within 30days?

Problem is if your files were deleted at some stage, the disk clusters holding them may well have been overwritten by all the disk activity.

To have any chance of recovering any of them, you needed to make sure there was as little or no disk write activity as possible.

First, if the files still exist and have not been deleted, without worrying exactly where they are, get a copy of locate32 (small. free)
Locate32 Download
on a USB flash drive in this case.

Use it to create a database- it will scan your entire disk drive- then search for one of your files.
The search takes a second or less.

If your files exist and have not been deleted, you will find them quickly.

If your files have been deleted, it's a question of probability as to whether they have been overwritten or not.
Recuva (free) is good... there are many commercial ones too.
You will need to run a scan - which will take a long time- and then you need to see if your files appear in the list.

I guess you never backed the files up or used disk imaging (which creates a complete backup from which you can completely recover your PC or extract files and is VERY strongly recommended to be use regularly. - Macrium Reflect, Aomei Backupper (both free). These are things to use in the future.

So I was typing away quickly. Too quickly for my own good, it might appear.
I was editing (as in, I'm an editor) a large text. I'd nearly finished. All of sudden Word (2007) closed.
When i reopened the file i found that all the text (16,000 words...) had been deleted. I had edited nearly all of it using track changes.
What I reckon happened was that I hadn't released the ctrl key from when i'd been moving the cursor around and I accidentally selected all, typed something else (thus replacing it all), then saved and closed the document (by holding ctrl and slipping from S to W).
It looks to me like if i reject the deletion (of the whole text) then I lose all the changes I made to the original text. This is hours and hours of work.
I can't see a temp file that I can restore from or anything.
Might there be any way of restoring the document to a state it was at at a specific point in time? Before I accidentally deleted everything, saved the document and then closed it?
Please let there be a way of rescuing my work!

I currently use the Microsoft Works Calendar as a PDA keeping track of appointments, birthdays, etc. but find that I can't print out reports according to categories. I can only print out days, weeks or months. Is there a good, free calendar that I can use and be able to import the information that I already have in the Works Calendar into that calendar?
Thanks in advance.

My DSL provider tells me the line tests they just did shows everything to be very good. But, I am finding many web sites load slowly and videos stop and go...even 12 second ones.

Does anyone know how long a short 12 second video on say YOUtube showtake to wonload with DSL at 256????

My laptop is 6 months old with Vista Home Premium, nod32 antivirus and superspywareblaster, IE7 Browser. My wife's PC is new with Vista Home Premium Norton Security center same browser. Both of us have the same problem with some web sites loading slowly and video just now performing at all......six second spurts then stops and buffering for long periods. Even a news or sports or YOUtube video12 seconds long takes a couple of stops to get through. Radio stations I used to listen to cut in and out now for buffering. This seemed to start a couple of months ago. Are there any settings on my system I can change or tweak to speed downloads up or deal with videos or sort this out. Here is what I have done to narrow the problem:

Turned off the wireless and plugged the DSL cord right into my laptop---same performance and same speed tests results.

Made sure only one of the two computers is on....no change

Tried the same video on my laptop or my wife's PC....same performance

Try to have the video on pause so everything can download first....works sometimes...but can take a long time for some videos.

Keep my system clean with weekly virus/spyware scans and Defender is also on.

I am new to the forum, but not new to computing. I recently started having problems with this Vista Home Premium box not being able to resolve DNS names for only computers on my home network (all others XP boxes or Windows Server 2003). It can ping the IP addresses of the local boxes. It doesn't have a problem connecting to the internet. But this is a big problem when it comes to sharing files within my local network.

I have disabled Windows Firewall and McAfee Firewall and Services to try and diagnose the problem.

I have been googling this for a couple of days looking for ideas, but I have none. I have validated that DNS is running. NETBios over DHCP is enabled. Subnet mask is 255.255.255. DHCP and DNS server IP is correct.

Anything that anyone could point me to try? I am out of ideas.

A:Ping on Workgroup Computer Names Bad / IP Addresses Good / Internet Good

Unless you've got a DNS server running at home, it's rather unlikely that DNS is being used to resolve names of your home computers when pinging by name. Instead, the machine does a broadcast (on the local segment) to the effect of "if you're called XYZ, please get back to me and tell me your IP address".

If that's not working for you, my first inclination would be to suspect firewalls on the other machines - not necessarily on the machine exhibiting symptoms. Try disabling and even uninstalling (3rd-party) firewalls while you're troubleshooting, and also test what happens when all machines are booted to [safe mode + net].

Hello All,
This is my first post to this forum. I will make it short. I've had my PC for nearly two years now. I've never had an issue. I run Mozilla Firefox as my default Internet Browser and I've always liked it. Yesterday, I sat down to see that there was a new update. Like always, I downloaded. Then, when I went to browse the internet for a bit, it could not load the page. I then tried rebooting my router. No help. I tried Internet Explorer. Same thing. I then tried Chrome. Same thing. Only this time, on Chrome, it said something like "Error 101; Connection reset error". My roommate, who is in networking, and I tried several different things. Nothing seemed to do the trick. This issue is on my desktop, but, my laptop and roommates desktop work just fine. So, I'm guessing it must be something with my machine. I've looked up the Error 101 thing on google and I have seen many different forums, but no real fixes, if there is one. I'm curious to know if anyone might now a remedy for this problem. I've tried running my AVG and Spybot programs but they have found nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance to all who read.--In Him, Joseph W. Brackins

Regarding many recommendations to have a good
