Lock-screen will not change, forever loading

Q: Lock-screen will not change, forever loading

So i'm having an issue where my cover photo and profile picture won't change on my laptop (aka lockscreen). The pictures currently on my lockscreen were my old cover photo and profile picture on facebook, and have since changed on facebook. I uninstalled and then re-installed facebook. I made sure profile sync was turned off and everything. Now, I changed my profile picture for microsoft, and that worked, except on the lockscreen page it is the same old facebook picture.
With the lockscreen wallpaper, it will not let me change it at all. In the personalization settings, it will let me browse for a picture, but will not load the preview.
I have tried everything. I've spent two days on the forums trying to figure this out. I have done the sfc /scannow several times. I have checked for virus. I checked to see if the new update messed with it, and I couldn't find the exact update everyone else was referring to; it didn't exist on my computer. The only thing that worked at all was when I did the registry editor, and disabled the lockscreen altogether. (computer>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>POLICIES>MICROSOFT>WINDOWS) I didn't have a personalization file, so I made one and added the NoLockScreen option and set the hexadecimal value to 1 to turn the lockscreen off.

Now the issue, I would like to have a lockscreen. I do not care is it is my facebook profile and cover picture at all, I am just getting very aggravated by the constant picture that I have to see every time I log on. PLEASE HELP!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So i got this Dell Laptop to fix...weird thing is

it will be stuck on the load-up screen for 15-20 minutes or more, then logging in will take another 10-15 minutes...

I tried looking into the system configuration through msconfig

disabled most of the startup programs down to the two most important ones
also played around with the "system services", but no luck...both will still startup the laptop really slow...

it has a 1gb ram and all updates/drivers are installed...

i also tried swapping the hdd with another laptop, still the same thing. I do not suspect it to be a bad hdd

but even after swapping the hdd, it will still take a very long time to load up and login....

occasionally the explorer.exe will shoot up to 50% CPU usage without me doing anything...

i believe these two are related in some way...

any ideas...thanks in advance

My problem is windows 7 takes a long time to go past the welcome loading screen when it's loading the OS. (FYI- Win7 came preloaded when I purchased my laptop)It takes about 5-10 mins to finally load onto desktop.Never took so long before up until last night.Once at the desktop...I can't open my programs like normal each time it freezes/lags/slow as molasses if you will .Then I'm able to open up a program and it continues...Sometimes the screen blacks out and never returns so I reboot.Whatever trojan/virus is present manages to disable McAfee protection each time I start up.I would have to go in and enable it each time I'm logged on.Steps I've taken:***I've tried booting up via safe mode (same thing happens).***I've ran the startup repair (could not detect a problem).***I've Cleared out my temp files.***I've Defrag my laptop.***I've ran spybot search & destroy(found the following Doubleclick,Win32.Agent.ws,Zedo)***I've done a system restore to a point where my laptop worked like charm.***I've ran full MBAM (safe mode) scan results...(no malicious viruses detected).***I've ran full McAfee (safe mode) scan results( no viruses found).I wanted to see what could be done first, before I attempt a system recovery which is at the bottom of my totem pole, don't want to lose my data. Please Advise & Your Assistance would be greatly appreciated!

A:can't change lock screen in W8.1

Hello usmc362,

In Windows 8 and 8.1 there are two "Lock" screens.

The user lock screen is the one that displays when a user locks the PC while still signed in to Windows, and when the user is selected on the sign in screen, times out, and returns to the lock screen. Each user is able to change their lock screen background image to an image of their choice. The default Lock screen image is the one that displays when there are no users currently signed in to Windows or selected on the sign in screen.
It sounds like you may need to change the default lock screen.

My tech question is, I would like to have a different lock screen that shows a user is login but the computer is lock like a red splash screen. The screen must be different then the regular blue login screen. I cant use any third party software to do this.

When the user is login but the computer is lock the screen will be red, but when the computer is not login the screen can be blue.

A:change windows lock screen.

Two ways a program called displayfusion
or the manual way...

Click start type regedit and hit enter ->right click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and select find ->
Type OEMBackground and hit enter
(the path should be Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background )
(if it is not there you need to create it*right click on background and select new DWORD name it OEMBackground set it from 0 to 1)
Now Double left click on OEMBackground and change the value from 0 to 1
Click start and type %windir%\system32\oobe -> in the oobe folder create a folder named info -> in that folder create a folder named backgrounds

Rename your picture that you want displayed durning logon/lock screen backgroundDefault.jpg

EVERYTHING is case sensitive so copy and paste the names.

The picture needs to be under 244kb.
The trick to get a picture under the 244kb -> right click on the picture and select open with > select paint -> press ctrl+w
This will bring up a box under horizontal and vertical select the amount you want to reduce the picture in %

Have to follow the step exactly and again everything is case sensitive.

a lot of work for something that may change back after updates; overall i'd suggest the program. It cost money but there are a lot of other useful things it does as well.

Best of luck!

I have Windows 8.1 and from time to time I change the lock screen image, which appears initially when my PC is started up.

There has never been any problem with this until a few days ago, when suddenly the lock screen manager within the PC settings page has stop working properly.

Usually the personalise section will contain the main lock screen image, along with the account picture and picture password image (A). Both of these work as normal when I click either image, but when I click the lock screen, I would normally get the large main picture with five smaller images of pictures, that I have chosen or used below it. However the smaller images have now disappeared (B), and although I can choose a new image via the browse button, this leads to lock screen preview image continously in a loading phase (C).

I have tried some of the various troubleshooting methods from Microsoft and other websites, such as searching for the B4FB3F98 file which does exist as 'Other Users' in the Registry Editor, and also the SystemData file which I do not have the permission to delete.

I will very grateful for any information, advice and solutions for this problem.

Many thanks.

I can change the lock screen image from Settings > Lock Screen without any problems and when I lock the computer my intended lock screen image is the one I chose, but when I boot the computer up or sign out the lock screen image is always some default W10 image.

I'm using W10 Home with the latest updates. I have the background on the lock screen settings page as "picture".

I've read that there's actually two separate lock screens: a default/welcome lock screen and a user lock screen. I'm guessing the one on startup and after a sign out is the default/welcome lock screen, but I can't find how to change it.

Hey guys,

I'm new here but i'm also on the Windows 7 and Windows 8 forums too.

Anyways, i got a new laptop and installed the Facebook app from the Windows Store and it asked me if i wanted to sync my Facebook profile picture and cover photo as the user photo and lock screen picture. I didn't mean to click yes as my cover photo at the time was a stupid one. I've tried uninstalling the Facebook app to make the lock screen picture go away and used the control panel to manually change back to Windows Spotlight. But it still does not change. Whenever i restart my laptop the stupid picture of Ainsley Harriot comes up before the logon screen, but when i lock my laptop it shows the Spotlight. It's weird. I'm new to Windows 10 so i'm unsure what the issue is here.

Any ideas?

A:Lock Screen Does Not Change To Windows Spotlight.

Hi Atif,

Glad you are also joining the Ten Forums

Yes, I've noticed the old lock screen picture still shows up even though the Spotlight is selected and works for whenever the PC sleeps or is locked.

The way to change this is to go back to the Lock Screen settings and select Picture and change it to something other than the one you dislike. Then once the new picture is registered you can reselect Spotlight.

If one of the Spotlight pictures particularly appeals to you you can find it and then select it as a Picture by following the information in this tutorial:

Hello, I am pretty good with computer but I have ran in to a problem I just can't fix. The operating system will not let me change the lock screen background mode from Windows Spotlight to something else. I have searched for an hour without any luck. My laptop has had a history of breaking down. The first time was hard drive failure and I have lost all my data. The second time I needed to repair was when the computer got so slow it was unusable and eventually got blue screens at boot And I needed to reinstall the operating system. When I try to go to edit the setting it is grayed out and on the top it says Some settings are managed by your organization" I am not apart of any organization and I am the only user on the computer with Administrator privileges. I would be very happy if you could help me with this, thanks in advance!

A:Unable to change lock screen background mode.

I have a very similar problem as this with my lockscreen which I've been trying to fix for about a week. I have seen that it seems many have similar problems so it may be a common windows error. For a while my lockscreen was the default red rock formation but only half of it showed as the bottom half was black. Now, when waking from sleep or restarting, My lock screen will be all black when I wake it up like it's trying to load a picture but cant. I can't click through to the sign in screen so I have to wait but it eventually just goes to the signin screen. Attempting to go to personalization>lockscreen grays settings out without going to the lockscreen option and then I just have to close settings. I tried Deleting all files in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\Loca lState\Assets and turned off sync for themes and windows settings and windows spotlight was working fine with new images last night and this morning but now it's back to the same thing. I get a security warning when selecting all files in the above folder and right clicking also.

Hi, recently i've tried to change my Lock Screen settings and i've found that the entire page in PC settings for the Lock Screen seems corrupt in some way. As can be seen from the screenshot below, I cannot view my current lock screen background (no endless spinnning wheel, just an empty area) or change it (if i click on one of the others, the chosen picture appears to move into the white space area although I still can't see it - the old one just moves into view below - although it does change the actual lock screen background) and weirdly the Lock Screen apps are showing their application path rather than their icons - even if i try to change them, it still shows their path - and I don't feel they're actually being displayed on the lock screen regardless.

Does anyone have any ideas? I've tried deleting the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData folder that was suggested in another thread, but that has had zero effect.

You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

I have windows 98 with ie6 and firefox 2 installed. My problem is that oftentimes it takes 2-3 minutes to switch from one open window to another or to open a new web page. My computer whirs and clicks forever and while it is doing this I can't do anything else ecept press alt-ctl-del to end the process and even that takes a long time to accomplish.
At first I thought it was a problem with ie6 so I installed firefox. Firefox worked fine the first few days but then it began behaving like ie6 taking forever to navigate between open windows. I tried disconnecting from the internet by turning off my dsl modem but the 'puter just kept whirring and clicking.
I ran a reg scan with cc and it reported no issues.

After much passed time, my task bar appears but no icons on it. The time appears in right hand corner of task bar, but the real time never advances. Lastly the dreaded spinning blue circle remains in the blank Task Bar. I have tried unplugging overnight, restarting, and the same thing. The Windows start button appears on task bar, but nothing works, because nothing has loaded on task bar or on my desktop. I have left it on overnight in hopes of a wishful escape of this endless loop it is stuck in.

Checking online, I have tried various suggested processes (getting to Task Manager, trying to restart explorer.exe, running new task (msconfig), tried to get to Safe boot to reboot, but cannot do any of those things due to the dreaded spinning blue circle. I simply can't get anywhere except to Task Manager, but nothing actually works within there either. Help Please?

IE9 Will Change the Web Forever

Will Internet Explorer 9 change the way we surf the web with its use of the GPU? Rob Enderle thinks it will.

IE6 became the dominant browser worldwide early last decade but unfortunately Microsoft took their eyes off the ball resulting in a raft of surprisingly good challengers. IE7 was OK but disappointing and IE8 moved back to challenge for leadership again. Now IE9 is looking like a whole different kind of beast. Although browsers have traditionally leveraged the CPU and system RAM, IE9 supposedly leverages the GPU (graphics processing unit) and promises to provide a significant performance improvement as a result.

This is why, for this cycle, NVIDIA has suddenly become a huge advocate for ie9. This is a big shift for browsers and where the market leader goes, the others will likely follow. This could be the biggest change for the web since the introduction of the web browser.

I'll stick with a browser that eats my processor, not my gpu thank you very much.
