I recommend downloading and running Outlook PST Repair. It's a PST repair tool that I've used it in the past to recover emails, contacts, tasks and notes from corrupt Outlook files that are damaged or inaccessible. Supports Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013.

You can download it direct from this link http://goo.gl/1bjhSi. (This link will automatically start a download of Outlook PST Repair that you can save to your computer.)

FWIW:  Why would you want the SP2...when SP3 was the last SP for XP?

In any case, Microsoft has now pulled all download support for SP2 or 3 from its site.

Downloading anything stated to be be an official MS download...from any other site...would not be advised by me.

Like many others, I have lost the sound on my computer. This happened after I unplugged my speakers to have them repaired and when I plugged in new speakers the sound didn't work. I can't figure out how to get it back. I have a Unimodem Half Duplex Audio device, SoftV92 Voice Modem with SmartCP, Audio codecs, Legacy Audio drivers, Legacy Video capture devices, Media control devices, video codecs. In the Device Manager there are big yellow question marks beside Multimedia Audio Controller and Parallel Device. The comment related to both of these says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)." When I try to update the driver for each of these, the computer tells me that there is nothing installed. Don't have a clue how to fix this or where to even start. Can anyone help? I have attached information from Belarc Advisor about my system.ThanksCarol

Trying to do a 'repair' re-install of Windows XP Home Edition. I get through the loading of files and into the first installation window of Windows XP and then get the system windows asking for 'The File ASMS on Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 CD is needed. Type the path where the file is located and then click OK/B]'. The text in the path text box is 'GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\CDROM0\I386'. The ASMS file (directory) is in the 1st level directory of I386 on the CD. This is also a valid OEM CD with the Hologram. The system has two CD drives; one is a CD drive and the other is a DVD/CD RW drive. It seems it is not communicating with the drive properly. Basically, I've tried to do it about any way I can think of. Even tried using each of the CD drives. I have been trying to install Windows XP onto a Acer 1642 Laptop for a while know and there has always been errors when copying files i will go into depth now the laptops history.

In the past this laptop failed to reformat the harddrive no matter what condition the harddrive is in so i came to the conclusion there was a problem with the northbridge chipset as after doing memory test's and reseting the bios still no errors with showing in the components.

I have tried to go around this by purchasing a 2.5 inch IDE laptop caddie and removed the orginal hard drive and plug it via usb so i could possibly install xp on the laptop with a removable drive instead.
I have tried multiple discs and multiple versions of xp with the SP3 failing at 33% with the error of unable to copy the file spnike.dll and on SP1 failing to copy lprmonui.dll at 29% on the install.

If anyone could sheld some light on this laptop and what could fix it be much appriecated :D
I think that maybe the laptops CD drive could be faulty, i have experience with computers and laptop hardware and software repairs and studing computer networking so i am not a noob and are abit stuck, thank you for your help :P

I think you could be right.

One way to determine whether or not the CD drive is at fault is to try burning a Linux distribution, such as Ubuntu, on to a disc and install it.

If it fails to install via the CD, try installing it again from a USB pen.
Instructions on how to put Linux on to a USB pen can be found here:
Universal USB Installer ? Easy as 1 2 3 | USB Pen Drive Linux

If it successfully installs from the USB pen then your CD drive is faulty and you will need to replace it if you want to install Windows XP.
If not then your CD drive is probably fine and something else is at fault.

Note: Apparently there is a way to get Windows XP to install from a USB pen but I haven't tried this myself and most online guides look pretty complicated. Unless your up to the challenge I would stick to testing Linux from USB which is a lot simpler.

If the error persists after you have clicked Retry several times, go to the Windows XP Service Pack Web site and select "Problems Downloading the Service Pack." This will give instructions on how to download a version of the Service Pack that does not require a Web connection during installation"

you can get one for free (http://www.majorgeekss.com)

i use (KillDisk ) myself but you can also get (d-ban boot & nuke) also (UBCD) these are all great programs

Once the service pack is installed, it reboots but I never makes it past the Windows splash screen before rebooting itself. It also momentarily flashes a blue screen but it doesn't remain long enough on the screen for me to see what the error msg is. Has anyone else had this happen? Everything works fine when I reinstall the system files but service pack three sort of hoses the entire system. Would appreciate any help.

Hi everyone,

Not sure if this thread should be here or in the Intenet / Network area but here goes.
Been using Microsoft Broadband Network Utility MN 500 on my system close to a year now & the network adapter on my laptop and everything was running beautifully.

However since I've installed service pack 2 on both computers, my laptop only stays online for about 5 - 10 minutes and loses connection with the network.

I've uninstalled & reinstalled Microsoft Broadband Network Utility, I've also tried the wireless network wizard service pack 2 offers but still the same results 5 - 10 minutes & lose connection

I know there is compatiblity issues between Microsoft Broadband Network Utility & Service Pack 2 but has anyone heard of any fixes out there ?

I don't want to have to unistall service pack 2, I'm hoping someone knows of some sort of patch ?

Thanks in advance for your help !!

A:Windows XP Service Pack 2 Compatibility Issue with MS Broadband Network Utility

Look for a patch for MBNU and SP2 If you cannot find one go here http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=884130&product=windowsxpsp2 This is a list of programs that conflict with SP2
You can also go here http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;ln;xpsp2getinstall Read over carefully . If you cannot find the trouble you may try uninstalling SP2 at add/remove then reinstalling , following these directions to the letter . Uninstalling should bring your computer back to where it was before you installed SP2

Hi Mayur,

I'm assuming you cannot hear any beep(s) whatsoever when you start the computer.

I wish I had something positive to say but I'm afraid you may have destroyed the motherboard completely. For some reason when you flashed the bios with the update something went wrong. Either the bios file is corrupt, or the procedure wasn't done properly, or you lost power while flashing.

if something goes wrong during flashing the bios its usually game over for the motherboard.

Theres only one thing you can try - clear the CMOS (that means resetting the bios in effect):

You should refer to the motherboard manual on how to clear the CMOS. Every motherboard should have this feature. You just change a jumper setting for five seconds on the motherboard.

If you do not have the motherboard manual, and cannot find it online (try the manufacturers web site support section) then you can try the workaround way:

Disconnect the computer from the power source (very important!)
Remove the small button/watch battery from the motherboard for five minutes
In the meantime, keep you finger on the power button for at least 15 seconds.
After five minutes replace the battery
Plug the power back in and other leads etc.

Try it after clearing the CMOS. Fingers crossed it will work but I'm afraid theres less than about 25% chance of this working.

Worst case scenario is a new motherboard needed, which would mean a fesh install of Windows too - anything on the drive will need ... Read more

I am trying to understand if the Microsoft XP Home Edition Backup Utility that I installed from my installation CD is creating a corrupt .bkf file after I use that utility. After I located the NTbackup.msi folder, installed it, and starting it, I selected the boxes for the personal files I wanted to back up and then save in a destination I chose on the hard drive.
After exiting the Back Up utility, I went to that destination, and all of the files I checked weren't there. There was just one .bkf file that got saved. All of the backed-up personal files I checked off while I was running the Back Up Utility had apparently never made it to the destination I chose, but this one particular file, which has that type of icon that opens with an 'unknown application' was there.
Does this mean that the .bkf file I saved using the utility is corrupted? I can't find anywhere in all of the Microsoft knowledge Base library if this is how the file is supposed to be saved in Windows XP Home Edition on the hard drive.
If this file isn't corrupted, how then do I upload all of the personal files onto a CD if wanted to from this one .bkf file because the file that got saved doesn't open?

I am running Windows XP Pro on my computer. I got a notice from Windows that I needed to update. It was for service pack 3 so I did the install. It kept telling me to restart (I was busy at the time) so I finally did the restart and that is when everything got messed up!

It logged off and then proceeded to reboot, only after the reboot try it would get as far as showing me the WINDOWS XP logo and look as if it were loading, then it would go black and turn off to reboot again. It did this many times, I was curious to see if it would continue and it did the same thing everytime

Recently I installed an eSata card in my PC,that came with a Seagate eSata Drive. After installing I successfully backed up my C drive. However, every subsequent reboot failed. I think the PC was trying to boot from the eSata instead of the Maxtor PATA drive I had installed. Eventually I decided to remove the eSata card and uninstall the drivers. The booting problem failed to go away. I reset the bios. No joy. I booted to the last known good configuration of windows. Also didn't work.

After a few hours I elected to reformat the hard drive and start again.

1 - Boot to XP disc and format C drive
2 - Install XP
3 - Activate XP over internent

[all ok up to here]

4 Install service pack 2

[problem] :: On first reboot I get a low-res blue screen which has a microsoft title and no content. 3 seconds later this is replaced by 4 wide bands of horizontal color (white ,red, blue & green). This is periodically replaced by a white screen a black screen and then back to the horizontal bands. The HD thrashes for about a minute and goes quiet. Attempts to reboot behave exactly the same without the brief appearance of the low-res screen with the microsoft title.

Things I have tried:

I have downloaded & installed XP service pack 2 & now my machine hangs at the XP logo screen.

I tested the service pack 1st on a spare machine to see what the changes were & whether they seemed necessary. Some obvious changes like firewall & wireless networking suit my needs so i went with it. Some visual differences were apparent which mean nothing yet but further on helped identify some strange goings on!. Before i confuse anyone, my spare machine is a "shuttle" & my main machine i call my "gamer".....This is a brief rundown of the steps i took:-

1. Slipstream SP2 to a directory containing XP disc contents which already had been slipstreamed with SP1. No instructions here as they are elsewhere on the NET. No problem, checked the disk booted & kept it to one side just in case.

2. Install SP2 on shuttle, reboot, everything appeared OK.

3. Install SP2 on gamer, reboot but hangs at XP logo. Try another reboot but same again. Try reboot to safe mode, still hangs @ logo. Couple more trys but just hangs at XP logo everytime.

4. Boot to XP CD (SP1 slipstreamed, not SP2 as the disc mentioned before wasn't quite ready) ignore recovery console, let it find original windows installation & let it run a repair.

5. Reboots & fails again - this time with BSOD STOP: C0000135 corrupt or missing winsrv file.....

6. Decide to install fresh copy of XP in new directory (with SP2 slipstreamed) to be able to either backup my f... Read more

Reinstalling Windows XP and problems accessing Laptop HDD to backup files

I have been using the command below to install XP onto another HDD for my Targa as a upgrade/replacement. I have been using the Targa laptop long with the new HDD plugged inside an enclosure to do the installation as I know that it couldn't be done on different computers due to different hardware and drivers.

E:\I386\winnt32.exe /syspart:D: /tempdrive:D: /makelocalsource /noreboot

where E is my external DVD drive (main CD drive not working) and D is the new HDD plugged in the enclosure

I think it was on the "preparing installation stage" and it said it will take 60mins. After copying all installations files to the enclosure, I think the /makelocalsource commands makes it do that. After it finishes copying the files the install window just closes and I was left with all the files it copied to the HDD on the enclosure. I pretty sure the window shouldn't do that and just to make sure I took out the 160GB HDD from the enclosure and replaced it witht the current HDD into the HDD bay of the targa and as I expected it didn't work.

The 160GB was formatted in NTFS beforehand (Quick format)so I didn't tell setup to format it again too but I wasn't too sure of the file allocation size so left as default. I just tried making another partition on the replacement HDD too with 800MB as FAT32 but after entering the comma... Read more

Sounds to me like you need a new hard drive first and foremost. There are really 4 reasons for install failure being hard drive, memory, cd disk or cd drive but this sounds like the hard drive to me.

I am in the blue setup screen trying to put windows xp home edition on my laptop. It is saying Setup cannot find a previous version of windows installed *I removed and re-created a new partition for my HDD* on your computer. To continue, Setup needs to verify that you qualify to use this upgrade product. Then it says when the CD is in drive *which it is* hit enterI hit enteri see loading.. then says dosnet.inf where the loading... was then just takes me back to the same setup page i was at. Also when I try chkdsk it says "The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems." Any help on how I can get XP to install would be greatly appreciated!!

A:Need help with an issue with Windows XP Home Edition Setup

First it sounds like you have an upgrade only install cd, and when its asking for a previous version its asking for a windows 98 or windows ME or windosw 2000 cd. The second issue is that your hard drive looks like it has issues as well, if possible take your hdd out of your system and put in another system and do a checkdisk from their copy of windows, however if you feel uncomfortable doing that or cant, when you do the install next delete the partition and recreate it and format it do a slow format as this will usually bring up any physical errors the drive might have.

I was playing a game (Elder Scrolls: Oblivion if that matters), acouple of days ago, and my PC crashed. When I tried restarting, it gave me missing files messages. I bought the PC with XP Home pre-installed, and wasn't given a CD. So, I rush-ordered one, thinking I could just reinstall XP like I would any earlier version of Windows, but the new CD doesn't want to boot up.

My system has no floppy drive. I'd like to save my files if possible on my C:\ partition, but it's ok if I have to format. In fact, I'm eager and happy to format, but I have no idea how.

I am currently using an older PC with Win98 to type this out.

I'm fresh out of ideas here, so I'd really like some help.

The original OS on the PC I believe I had upgraded to SP2, but not certain. The OS on the CD I just bought is XP Home with SP2, if that matters.

I have a floppy drive on my old Win98 machine, but none on the XP one. Otherwise, that pretty much sums up my situation. My Win98 PC is a 500mhz with 96mb RAM, so I'm not sure I could run XP on it.

A:Help with XP (Home Edition) boot/install problem?

Hello ChrisC30

To make your XP installation CD boot you need to go into the BIOS and set the boot order to
floppy (if present)
CDROM
Hard disks
SAVE and EXIT

Then put the CD in the drive and reboot

Before I say any more I`m not sure if you want to try to save your files on "C" or whether you are happy to reformat and lose them all.

Are you able to get into XP at the moment?

Hello
I ran a program on my computer called PC booster and forgot to back up my settings.
Now I can't use Real player or Windows media player. Also when I try to open a folder that I have with more than 7 gb,I am sent back to the desktop without the icons. It seems that explorer with the new settings installed by PC booster cannot handle that particular folder.
If anyone knows where I can find the normal settings for windows xp home sp2,please tell me.
I have reinstalled sp2 and that doesn't seem to have made any changes.
Thanks

A:windows xp home with service pack 2 settings

You may have to reinstall. That program does a lot of damage and changes a lot of things. Try a repair before reformatting.

Repair Installation Instructions
or
How To Run A Repair Install
(How to Repair Windows XP by Installing Over top of Existing Setup)

All you do is boot from the CD. When it asks if you want to repair and to press "R", don't. Continue with the installation just like you were installing for the first time.

You will then get a license agreement and it will ask you to press F8 to agree. Right after that screen, you will see a list of Windows installations that setup found. It will ask if you want to repair it. Read the directions on that page!!!

Then, you will actually press "R" this time and XP will re-install.

When done, you will be back to your familiar desktop with everything looking just like it did before. But all your Windows Updates are gone and you will need to get those again.

If you have any problems booting from CD, set the CD to boot earlier than the hard drive in BIOS setup, or come back for more help. If you don't get the "Repair" optin to press the second "R", then your registry is too damaged for a repair and you need to restore an earlier copy of the registry.

I recently plugged in and turned on my computer after a few months and upon startup I am getting a blue screen that say 'Windows XP Home Edition Setup'. I have followed the steps to install it and once it copies the files it tells me that Windows must reboot and the setup will continue. However, once it reboots it just takes me back to the beginning again. I have never had to do this before and i would like to get this setup so that I can use my computer again. Also I do have the Windows XP Home Edition Reinstallation CD if I need it. Please Help

A:Blue Screen: Windows XP Home Edition Setup on startup

One possible cause is that you are pressing a key when it restarts and prompts with "Press any key to boot from CD". You do not want to press any keys here, just let it reboot on its own.

A:Stand alone Windows Home Edition Service packs

For windows xp whether its the home or pro version all you need is SP3 as the others are no longer being supported. if you can go to a friends house you can download sp3 for free and then burn it to a cd for future use. its about a 300mb file.you can go to the microsoft website and get it from there.if you have a pc at home im curious as to why you would have no internet access.
