Really Slow/Not responding often

Q: Really Slow/Not responding often

Hey everyone, I've been here several times with fantastic results thanks to the incredible community and people hard at work. Once again I need your help with my pc.. It has been running very slow compared to even a few months ago, and has a very hard time running any game, regardless of graphic complexity. Even programs as simple as internet explorer, windows explorer, and everyday programs like microsoft word take a long time to boot up, then run slow and have a tendency to "Not Respond". Something is just not right.. I have tried malware and virus scans but they find nothing, removed old pictures to try and speed it up, removed old programs, and I started using CCleaner often, but results are slim to none. I attached all the requested files, except for the RootRepeal because it it wouldn't finish the scan without coming up with an unknown error.Thank you so much in advance for helping to fix this laptop, I really appreciate all efforts.DDS (Ver_09-12-01.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Zac at 17:10:21.70 on Sat 01/09/2010Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18865Microsoft? I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hope you can help! I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, 4GB, 64bit, Intel i5, NVIDIA, Kaspersky Internet Security 15.0.2.
I primarily use IE11, but switch to Mozilla Firefox 43.0.2 when IE stops responding. My primary email is AOL which I access via web, not software. Computer often slow and hangs.

The main issue is IE11 "stops responding" several times a day. I've run the latest version of Malwarebytes (subscription), Glary Utilities Pro, Kaspersky IS, CCleaner, and Disk Cleanup. I delete browing history daily. No virus or malware shows up after scans. Recently ran a full scan on Kaspersky overnight+ and still, no viruses detected. I'm not sure what the issue is and would gladly go back to IE9 or 10 if IE11 is the issue, but I need to be sure.

Whatever guidance you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello,

I was here a few months ago, with my computer/firefox running slow.

I've had malwarebytes anti malware  running ever since.
A couple weeks ago the computer has literally come to grinding halt.
When I start the computer it takes a couple of minutes to go from the "Starting Windows" screen to the Windows login screen.
From there it take another 3-5 minutes to boot up. I have Soluto installed and I watch all the programs that are being started during boot up and how much extra time has elapsed for everything to load.

I've run spybot search and destroy,  Avast, eset, and SuperAntispyware and nothing has been detected.
All programs have a large lag time from when i dbl click the icons to start them.  They run slow, I type something and there is a delay before I see it on the screen. Also I'm always seeing the "not responding" message.

Here is the speccy link:

http://speccy.piriform.com/results/MzcuTBZF3HP1gYFSP85FccO

I also have the hijackthis and minitoolbox report.

Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!!

Donato

A:Slow computer. Start up/boot very slow. everything not responding

Please...paste the MTB log into your next reply.

This forum does not handle malware situations and HJT logs are NOT to be posted in this forum, at any time.  HJT is not a tool used for O/S situations, the focus of this forum.

If you suspect malware issues...this topic needs to be moved to a different forum.  I can do that, if you wish.

My post of two weeks ago has received no replies for about 10 days now, so lets start over. I'm running Windows 7  in a Dell Optiplex 320. It is slow and I get a lot of "Not responding" messages. My antivirus is Avast; I run Spybot S&D, Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, and McAfee Stinger as on-demand programs fairly frequently. I use CCleaner. It is still slow etc. So I would like Bleeping Computer to take a look at it. You guys have always been good in the past.

A:Slow, not responding

You may have too much things installed.  Also there might be a lot of processes clogging up your ram.  If there are any unneeded things happening try to limit it.  My system also runs slow to the point that even my computer freezes .  All I do is close programs like skype when not in need and it seems to work.

OK, so I've read all kinds of things about others having IE8 running slow/not responding. I have tried all the tricks, disabling add-on's, resetting IE to default, adding some .dll file/fix to the CMD line, and a "fix" download by Microsoft. all of them not working.

I had done a clean install/format of Windows 7 Professional x64 and it seemed to work fine. It was loading up under 5 seconds, which was acceptable to me. Tabs were working great, and no "not responding" issues, until........

Until I decided to install Microsoft updates. Then, forget about it....takes anywhere from 20-30 seconds to load, constantly displaying "Not Responding"..Funny thing..I purposely didn't install any updates to IE8 purposely to trouble shoot this issue. The only updates were those for Outlook and a few others....I can post more specifically later if need be as I am on laptop now and don't have access to my Desktop.

Compared to Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Safari, these browsers open and run so much faster than IE8. I would love to set default browser back to IE8 but for now, till I can get it to work correctly, I think I will stick with Safari as my default...

Any ideas, other than the one's mentioned, unless I did something wrong, would be gratefully appreciated.

A:IE8 slow/not responding

Many a poster has suggested, and it worked, uninstalling your Anti Virus. Just disabling your A/V may not work. Before you do uninstall, make a system image, so that you can restore if it does not work.

Go to task manager and see what is usuing the most memory.

You can also try going to event viewer and check for errors

Finally, check device manager for drivers that may need updating.

Multiple symptoms - an add in for Outlook might have triggered my problems. Their tech support gave detailed instructions for purging Temp files, outlook /cleanviews, and removing keys in registry.

Lavasoft, NAV 2004, and my defragger say I am OK but WinXP is slow in loading OffXP units. Also applications are bloated.

Outlook and IE6 are slow to sometimes Not Responding. Slow, 4 minutes to IE to load, Slow 2 minutes for Outlook to open file.

Taskmaster shows Windows Explorer bloating to about 20 meg before shrinking, no visable WE applications, search etc. were running.

The "normal.dot" template in Word, fixed, was causing Word to bloat to 95 meg, in Taskmaster.

These problems all occurred at the same time. Any ideas on what might be the cause will be appreciated.

The lap top is taking an absolute age to boot up and when it does programs do not respond or extremely slow.
I am running on windows seven my avg is all in red and says it requires turning on but it wont turn on, i have tried a system restore point but it says i dont have any restore points when i know i had before.
There is an icon in the tray saying back up in progress that i cant get rid off but it isnt running a back up nor have i started one.
Any help would be really appreciated rather than having to do a complete reinstall.

Thanks in advance

Hey,

For a few weeks now I have had issues with my PC from just having one tab open on Firefox and not responding. It just happened to me on Google.

I can have a folder and WMP open and it just stops responding. The Windows Starting screen takes longer to load Windows. Even when I can see my desktop it takes ages for it to all be ready for me to use. All I have starting up is Magic Disk, Antivir, Comodo Firewall and ATI CCC along with Spyware Terminator.

I ran a full system scan on Antivir, MalwareBytes, Spybot, Spyware Terminator, SUPERAntiSpyware and Ad-Aware, The all found worms and some found a trojan but removed it with no problems. I have cleaned my PC as well with CCleaner but its till slow as anything. I'm at whits end on what to do with it. A few weeks ago it was perfect.

Can I get some help?

- Remove COMODO
- Remove Ad-Aware

What is the OS? I see XP, Vista and Windows 7 listed under your name.

What are system specs? How much installed RAM do you have?

Try these 3 places for additional information on crashes (Not Responding...) -
1. WERCON -
START | type view | "View all Problem Reports" | 2x-click on line item for additional crash info

2. Reliability Monitor -
START | type perfmon /rel | click on red x's | "check for solution"

3. Event Viewer -
START | type eventvwr.msc | Custom Views | Administrative Events

I have this system. winnt4 IE 5.5 (installed over IE 4). Problem is some of programs lag when they start. Like when i click IE icon. It starts after 30 seconds. Rest of windows program run fine in the mena while. When IE is opened I can create its threads without lag. but every time i click on IE icn to create a new process same lag comes. Similarly when i open My Computer sam eproblem occurs. Same problem comes in the case of control panel starting window.
I have two partitions. C is FAR and D is NTFS. The system was running fine for last 4 months. I shut it down in proper way yesterday but when i opened it in the morning problem occured.
I have attempted ot solve it:

1) i repaired IE 5.5 no use
2) removed IE 5.5 and then reinstalled no use
3) i cleaned reg with one of reg cleaner. no use.
4) i used NT disk error check No use.

So if one can help me solve th eproblem without reinstalling windows NT. that will be of great help

A:NT 4 responding slow but why?

Wht are your system specs and how many other applications are running when you encounter the slowdown? I would change all of IE's settings to minimal....change the history to zero and clear history, delete all temporary internet files and check how much disk space you have available for programs. I wouldn't run an NT box on less than 64 MB...more is better. Also, change the Application performance setting in the system properties to maximum for forground applications and set the pagefile size larger for virtual memory.

I have been having several issues with my computer lately. I changed my home PC to Charter cable 3mb. This is when I noticed everything slowing down. (I'd think cable would be way faster then old dial-up!!) When I launch internet explorer it takes forever to load the home page. (Google.com = 2-5 minutes) If I check it in task manager it shows as not responding. It will eventually load and works ok once it is up. If I try to open a link that opens a new window or new tab, the same thing happens. (5-10 minutes!!!)
Email is also slow to load (outlook express). The program will open quickly without messages & then finally loads them.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

If you've set it up recently you should have installation media. Would you consider backing up and reinstalling OS? Just run chkdsk /r when you boot from DVD/CD if you decide t go that way.

Hi mike, im new here too, but it sounds like you answered your own question. its running slow because you have a celeron processor, and two, with zone alarm running in the background, you need about 1gig of memory to support zone alarm and windows together. You havent found the right spyware because the programs your using are spyware, pretty much, besides spybot S&D. Try a new approach, use the support guides in these forums to help you.

When it used to take an hour to download something it said it was going to take 2143 days.
Internet Explorer stops responding randomly and some web pages still will not load.
We have Webroot Spy Sweeper with Antivirus but it doesn't find anything when we scan except for some cookies.
I'm at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This is our HJT log.

my computer is very slow and often hangs with non responding. Am I right that given the specs the pc should have no problem with having several programs open, surfing /email etc. i t should not be short on memory or cpu? I have check memory/cpu/diskcheck/scannow

Defragged. There is no virus or malware. Scans with Norton Anti Virus and Malwarebytes and several others including online scans are clean.

There is an issue with NAV and Malwarebytes but I have put the exclusion for each other in each program. Is this just a windows 7 thing? I have seen many threads on the win 7 non responding issue

A:win 7 slow and not responding i3 530 processor

How does it behave if you boot to Safe Mode with Networking? If better then something is starting at boot that is causing the problem.

Advanced startup options - XP
Advanced startup options - Vista
Advanced startup options - Windows 7

Use msconfig to determine what is causing the problem

These are good tutorials on using msconfig in XP, Vista or Windows 7:
How to use msconfig in Windows XP
How to use msconfig in Windows Vista
How to use msconfig in Windows 7

Click on Start then Run, type msconfig and press Enter.
Click on the Startup tab, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Reboot and see if it runs better.
If yes then use msconfig to enable several items at a time till you find the culprit.

If no, start msconfig and click on the Services tab.
Check the Hide All Microsoft Services box, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Again, do a regular boot, see if it runs normal.
If yes then use msconfig to enable services till you find the culprit.

Once you've found the culprit, uninstall it or find out how to eliminate it from your system. Simply disabling it in msconfig is a temporary fix at best.
Enable everything else you disabled.

Hey everyone.

I have a custom built pc that I had built 5 years ago. A few months ago, I upgraded my OS from XP to Windows 7. Everything seemed normal. A few days ago, I was using my computer when I started to notice some serious lag. Every program I had running was "Not Responding." I tried to open Task Manager, but at this point, my computer crashed.

Upon restart, my computer took about 5 minutes to start, which was very slow compared to normal. When my desktop finally loaded, it was the same story all over again. When I started a program, it would soon be "Not Responding."

So finally, I decided to format the harddrive, wipe the slate clean, and install Windows 7 from scratch. The installation process went smoothly and quickly. However, when I began using Windows again after the install, the same problems keep coming back. My computer is extremely slow and unresponsive.

Any suggestions?

A:Slow responding computer

I suppose I should also add that sometimes my computer runs beautifully, and then all of a sudden everything freezes.. as if the processor isn't doing anything...

Hi,

I've got Toshiba L50-A-19N half of a year old and it started to load everything really slowly or is not responding for a short period of time (acts like frozen for 2-3 second, something like spike). I've done Chkdsk, Memory Diagnose tool, defragmentation. Scanned PC with McAfee, Windows Defender and Malwarebytes. Also reinstalled Windows but nothing helped. Disk seems to be in good health according to Toshiba Health Center and the CPU is not hot, neighter used (7% usage and i still get spikes). Any suggestions on what would help solve this problem ?

Thank you

Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you had any ideas on this one. For some reason, it takes about 20 or so seconds to connect to the server at our office in Michigan. Now my other mail accounts respond immediately. When I try to ping the IP for that office, I get a timeout. Their tech support people say there is no problem on that end as other offices that connect don't have this problem. My response is why do I only have the problem with that office and not my other e-mail accounts.

Any ideas?

I'm using WinXP, DSL, and a LinkSys Router, although I can't imagine why that the Router would have anything to do with it because my other e-mail accounts work fine.

Hi Mike_K,Have you turned system restore back on? If not, please do that.Try a scan for corrupt and missing files first. Hi,
I purchased a new computer at work before Christmas thinking that my old computer was the cause of slow running programs, response times, etc. New computer was faster - at first - but the past month it's become increasingly slow and I now get a lot of 'Not Responding' with everything I do - word documents, Excel documents, my accounting software, Outlook, internet, etc.

I know my way around a computer although am not at all techy as far as terminology goes!

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 530S and is used mainly for accounting.
I have Malwarebytes (Premium) and use Microsoft Security Essentials.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Whenever I right click on a file such as a photo or even IE the computer goes into a non responsive mode. If I wait it out at least 45+ seconds generally the menu comes up. This is pretty frustrating. Have seen a few posts with the shellexviewer etc and started to go that route but I decided to do a restore at a earlier point and now and looking for a fresh perspective on this and some help for a fairly unsavvy computer guy. Thanks

A:Right click not responding and very slow.

Hello dbcrawford, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If a restore point dated before a issue started is available, then a system restore using that restore point is usually the easiest route to take to undo and fix a issue.

From what you described, it sounds like you may have had a bad context menu item added by some program that you installed causing this issue. You could have also used ShellExView to slowly disable each 3rd party context menu item one by one in hopes of finding the culprit as described in Method 2 here, but I find system restore to be faster and easier.

Did you get it sorted with a system restore?

I have tinstalled Photoshop CS3 on both my Windows XP Pro OS and on Vista OS and the program acts the same way on both OS's. The second I create a new document and, for example, just draw a circle with the eliptical tool, it slows waaaay down and if I go to color fill that circle it stops responding all together. Why would this be? Also, in order to not wait for the non-responsive program to end, I start Task Manager to shut it down and I notice that the CPU usage is at 100%. When the program does finally shut down, my computer remains sluggish until I do a restart. Plese advise, thank you.

Never install more than one antivirus on a computer, especially not with Norton... And besides, you already have one of the best, NOD32.

Run the Norton Removal Tool.

I really would like to fix this issue as it is my neighbors machine and she wants to use ie11.
