I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone and thank you in advance for reading this thread,

I have BSOD situation for a while. When I hibernate or put my computer asleep and leave this mode my computer freeze for a while before showing of a BSOD with driver power state faillure. I have windows 8 sometime it start freezing rightaway or sometime It happens like 10 sec later (after logging with my password). It bug also when I restart my computer the clean way. I first decided to solved this issue by doing a refresh of the system (I don't if it's the proper word as I and my window8 are French). It implies that all the softwares I have installed were erased but my files were saved. It might not have been my smartest move as it didn't change anything ....

I have run a whocrashed and it tells me that the issue come from a kernel &system :

Hiya. Not tech savvy and don't really know the lingo or what I'm supposed to post here but I followed the instructions.

Basically, starting the past 24 hours, every time I open my computer (bring it out of sleep mode) I get the BSOD. Very unusual, I've only seen it once or twice before and I've had my computer almost two years. My device is a Lenovo Yoga with Windows 8.

Hopefully I did this correctly and hopefully someone can help me. Thanks!
Edit: Okay. Re-ran the scan thingy. Did it exactly as the instructions said. Hopefully dump files aren't empty this time.

My ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6th Gen (2018) does not wake from sleep mode when plugged in, with the lid open. I have no trouble using the computer when it goes into sleep mode with the lid closed: when opening the lid, it immediately wakes. When the lid is open and the computer goes to sleep, I cannot wake it with the keyboard, trackpad, or power button. I have no other option than to force a power cycle by holding the power button until the machine turns off, then turn it back on again. My Windows power settings are "Balanced," with all settings default. I have the latest build of Windows 10 installed.

I've had this problem intermittently on my laptop for the past 2 years however it has been occuring more often recently.

Basically sometimes when I click the sleep button on Windows 7, the screen fades to black as usual. However the fan keeps running (sounds like when it's on full load) and the power button light stays on endlessly. I always have to force shut it down and restart it.

What can be the issue?

A:Laptop freezes between entering sleep mode to being in sleep mode

Hi joseph10444.

Such a situation may occur when some driver (mostly the PnP device drivers depending on the ACPI configuration) fail to response within a stipulated time period during the power state change.

Let us see some data. Upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
Upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :
Download and execute Driverview
View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
Edit > Select all
File > Save Selected Items
In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
Zip the .txt file and upload it.
Those files will give us a closer look to the issue.

When I leave my computer after a session, it automatically goes into sleep mode after a period of time and remains that way till I wake it up.

However when I manually put it to sleep ( via shutdown options) , it goes to sleep immediately but for only a while ( a few minutes) then it shows the desktop screen again. If I then leave it alone after it self awake , it goes back to sleep as described above.

Any idea why ?

A:Auto sleep mode works but manual sleep does not

Some softwares can stop the sleep request to work properly.

run cmd.exe as a admin (Click on start, type CMD, right click on CMD.exe and select run as admin)
then type the command
powercfg.exe /energy
This will generate a report that will show if any software is blocking the sleep request. Your next step would be to configure the software in control panel power options

Hi KnightCa,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I'm really sorry to hear that your Lenovo W520 goes into sleep mode even after it has been disabled in Power management.
Go to Control panel - - >Power Options - - >Change plan settings (Choose the Power plan that you have selected) - - >Change advanced power settings - - >Adjust the settings under sleep and display as shown below.

Also, try doing a windows update and reinstallation of Power manager in your system.
If the above said didn?t help, try doing a registry editing.
1. Open the Start Menu. 2. In the white line (Start Search) area, type regedit and press Enter. 3. If prompted, click on Continue in the prompt. 4. In regedit, go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\238C9FA8-0AAD-41ED-83F4-97BE242C8F20\7bc4a2f9-d8fc-4469-b07b-33eb785aaca0\DefaultPowerSchemeValues.
5. Expand DefaultPowerSchemeValues and Click on the key that is for the Power Plan that you want to change the wait time (Refer the table below)

I like to put my computer on sleep so I can just come back to where I left it, but the past few days when I put it on sleep the screen would just go black like it was asleep, but the computer was still on and running like I didn't put it in sleep. Then when I move the mouse to come out of sleep it says "locking computer" and goes to my password screen (which is what it should do before going to sleep). I don't think its in the power settings because I've checked there and played around with the settings (I'm not technically challenged so I don't think it's something that simple lol).

Also, my touchpad scroll feature does not work (and has not worked for quite some time). It comes back when I turn the computer off and on again, but I only do that a few times a week. I've tried reinstalling the touchpad firmware so that isn't the problem.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A215.

Hi All,  I bought my 11e 3rd Gen just today. I really like it so far, except, I don't seem to be able to utilize the tablet mode. Every time I fold the screen back, it will enter tablet mode as per usual, but then once the screen actually touches the bottom of the laptop, completely folded back, it turns off and enters tablet mode. It's almost as if the sensor thinks the screen is folded shut completely and the laptop enters sleep mode.  Any ideas on what may ber happeneing? Thanks in advance.

I've been using this Windows 7 Home system for some years. At first it used the CRT monitor I had for much longer than this system, then a used LCD monitor, now for the last six or eight months a larger used, but seemingly in excellent condition, Dell E228WFP.

My habit has been, for much longer than I've had the Win7 system, to manually put the system in sleep mode during the day when I expect to be away for any extended time. I turn it off if I will definitely be away for hours and turn it off over night.

The problem did not exist until this Dell monitor. I don't recall how soon after getting the monitor it started, probably not very long.

The system always come up working properly when first turned on but sometimes, when I awaken the system, the video is at a much lower resolution. Looking at the Windows Screen resolution, it says generic PNP monitor rather than the Dell. This is an annoyance but easy enough to fix, just click on Detect, and it switches back to the Dell at the higher resolution, the recommended 1680 X 1050, which is enough to suit me.

Starting perhaps six or eight weeks ago it sometimes instead woke up with a message
1: auto detect (analog input)
Cannot display this video mode
optimum resolution 1680 x 1050 60Hz

Sometime the first line instead says
2: Analog Input

The only way to get any video is to restart the system, which always came up correct from boot or reboot, just not from reawaken. If nothing was open when I put it to sleep, I can use the k... Read more

Hello for the past 2 weeks I am facing a weird battery charging issue. Apparently the battery charges only while the laptop is on Sleep mode or Shut Down mode. It doesn't charge when powered on. The HP online support also does not have any answers. I have updated the BIOS and restarted the laptop countless times. The battery is not removable. Anybody else faced this issue and any solutions?  On a side note, Microsoft Excel crashes repeatedly since beginning. And the support has no answer to this too. Thanks for your help! Regards,Garry

A:Sleep mouse during sleep mode?

Hello Jack,

You might check using STEP SIX in the tutorial below as a guide to see if you have a "Power Management" tab to uncheck the "Allow to wake computer" option in it for you mouse in Device Manager.

Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems

If not, then you can use the STEP FIVE section to manually disable the mouse from waking up your computer.

Just be sure that you at least have the keyboard allowed to wake up the computer, or you will have to press the case power button to wake up your computer instead.

Hope this helps,

this could be somewhat complicated and should be either in driver section, or installation section or could be on both windows 7 and 8 forum.

here goes.. recently im into SSDs and usb 3.0 so i got myself a usb 3.0 flash drive, made it bootable with window 7 files on it and then install window 7 from flashdrive to my ssd which takes about 3 mins, very fast.

since window 7 natively does not support usb 3.0, i had to install usb3 drivers during installation screen which is a hassle because i have 4 laptops, which all have usb 3.0 ports, but each laptop uses different usb 3.0 drivers and thats where my problem is.

i could slipstream usb 3 driver into win7 install disc, then copy the disc files onto my flashdrive but then i would need 4 seperate flashdrives, or 4 times amount of files. then i thought about windows 8 which ive tried, it automatically detects usb 3.0 during installation screen just fine and of course theres no way it would know what drivers i am using, so obviously microsoft has a *general* usb3.0 driver they use themselves for windows 8.

if i can find that usb 3.0 drivers for windows 8, i should be able to slipstream into the window7 install cd, then of course copy it onto my flashdrive so i no longer have to install different usb 3.0 drivers everytime, correct?

plz help me out.. lol

A:slip stream MS window8 usb 3.0 driver into window 7 install CD

Chances are Win8 has most of the USB 3.0 drivers so that yours is able to be installed. Absent this I would simply get the driver from optional Windows Updates which is how the installer drivers are updated and missing drivers supplied shortly after Win7 install.

Short of that keep the USB 3. driver on stick to install in Device Manager.

If you want to try to slipstream the Win8 USB 3 driver into your 7 installer using 7Lite to see if it will work, then that might be a fun project but hardly necessary.

High Pitched Chipmonk Audio on Window8 with Realtek HD

Recently my laptop started sounding like the Chipmonks, with a higher pitch, set to all of the sounds coming out my computer. After reading dozens of useless posts, I came to the conclusion that this 'must be a settings' issue, and started looking around. The culprit, in my case, was a setting for Realtek HD sound card. This is what I did to correct it:

1. Put on some music or sound for monitoring.
2. Right-click on the (little red speaker) icon, for the Realtek HD sound card on the toolbar (or find in programs).
3. Click on 'Sound Manager'
4. Click on 'Sound Effects'
5. Find the 'Karaoke' setting.
6. Set it to '+0'
7. IMPORTANT: Click 'ok' on the bottom right corner.

That should do it.
Setting that Karaoke tab up will increase the sound pitch for all audio on the computer. Setting it down, will lower the pitch for all of the audio. I hope this helps someone out there.

Hi i really need some help. I got a virus notification from mcaffee saying i have trojandownloader:win32/renos.dz and i selected remove and thought it would be fine. But the next day the computer kept restarting and ie and mozilla would not open. They only opened in safe mode with netoworking so i tried to download virus protection but when i tried to install it the computer would restart so i renamed the programs which it worked for so i could install it. I installed malware and it got rid of some files but it has not solved the issue. Also when in safe mode and using the internet the page always redirects to other pages like smartbizsearch and the internet just does not function properly. I downloaded HiJackThis from safe mode and renamed it so i could use it. I downloaded dds as instructed and here my log for it:DDS (Ver_09-05-14.01) - NTFSx86 NETWORK Run by Himesh at 16:00:46.10 on 03/06/2009Internet Explorer: 7.0.6001.18000Microsoft? Windows Vista? I own a Windows 7 PC. I am having trouble turning on my computer. Each time I try to access my user account or that of others I either end up with a black screen with only the mouse pointer visible or it opens to the user desktop but I really can not do much else; the only programs I can open are things like My Computer and the Control Panel, but when I try to access anything within these, the pointer has the little blue circle that says it's working, but nothing happens even after 20 mins or so; and I have to end up restarting via the button on the front of the computer. It does not recognize my home network so I can not get any Internet. I tried retiring the computer back about three days but each time it fails and says something about my anti-virus software interfering, I turned off that software and it still gives me the same message.
I can open the computer in Safe Mode with networking, and I can access my home network as it should and access the Internet. I can also access the basic programs as I should and have tried system recover but it gives me the same message as in normal mode.
I have an external hard drive that I tried booting from but I don't even know if it worked, because I have the same problems. The external hard drive has a back-up/restore function but it says I can not do that from safe mode, and when I clicked restore options after I opened the file on the hard drive while in normal mode it just froze again.
I really have know idea what is going on.... Read more

A:Trouble loading in normal mode have to open in safe mode

Hi, it sounds as if something suspect is running on your computer or as if too many applications are trying to open when you boot the machine. Do you remember installing or using anything new prior to the issue occurring?

The easiest way to fix this would be to strip down the startup programs and see if that helps the issue. There is however some risk associated with doing this, you have to be confident that you can turn off a start up program without it diminishing your computer's functionality. If you're interested in trying this then there's instructions on how to disable start up programs here. And if you're unsure of whether or not to disable a program googling it's "startup name" will give you an idea of what it does, essentially what you're trying to do is stop un-necessary programs from running when the computer starts. So things like updaters, monitering programs, a lot of things that show up in the system tray can be disabled. If you're still unsure then post a list of the start up items and we can give you an idea of what's going on. You may have to do this from safe mode (ensure you're logged in as an administrator) however once you restart you should notice an immediate difference. If you don't then the problem could be with OS damage or something a little more difficult to fix, if that's the case i'd advise that you possibly post in the virus/spyware/trojan help forum and the people there can give a little more in depth analysis of what's going on.... I was installing Windows 8.1 from 8 on a Toshiba laptop. Lost Internet connection at the very last part of the download and couldn't reconnect. So I cut the computer off and when I cut it back on to reconnect so I could start over I was trying to reinstall Windows 8 as it suggested and it then went to a Choose an Option blue screen with 5 different options to choose from. I chose Continue Exit and Continue to Windows 8. It started loading but every time it goes back to the blue Choose an Option screen. I would just like to get back in to reconnect to the Internet so I can start the 8.1 update over. Thanks for any feedback.

A:After Failed 8.1 Update from Windows 8 Can't choose Exit and Continue to Window8

Have you tried to revert the pending update through Command Prompt that might hopefully solve the problem for you. But I'm afraid the update has already been applied then only a refresh can fix this problem, lets try the reverting first:
Open Troubleshoot
Choose Advanced Options
Choose Command Prompt
Then type DISM /image:C\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions and hit enter
Then type move C:\Windows\WinSxS\pending.xml C:\Windows\WinSxS\pending.old then hit enter
Reboot the device afterwards, if you get a FILE not found then replace C: with X: that might help ;) (See step by step video and guide here)

Sigh, I guess I will start from downloading IOBIT advanced system care and then it asked me to update my driver and now I have this driver failure thing where I'm unable to login to window, I've googled so much and now I'm in need of the rescue disc file for rebooting so I can perform system restoration, but I'm unable to download it from the window official website because I don't have the registration key... it was installed for me at the shop so I never had a disc.

I've actually downloaded the disc else where and installed it onto a USB but it didn't seem to detect the USB at all, I did perform F2 , boot mode and put all my USB drives to the top as my priority, I don't know if the files were corrupted at the beginning so now I'm hoping if someone can help....

Many thanks

A:How to open the computer in normal mode and not safe mode

Hold the "Windows" key and the "R" key. Type msconfig in the window that opens:

Go to the "boot" tab and uncheck "safe boot":

Click "Apply" and "OK" and restart the PC. It should then boot in normal mode.

a lot of my friends have this problem. It doesn't matter what type of card they have. My problem is more difficult. When the screen turns off it happens quite often that it doesn't turn back but otherwise the pc (windows) is in working ("blindly" i deleted my icons from the desktop) If i press the power button than for instance the screen comes back and than the computer turn off. I operated with the power setting and i found a newer driver for my intel 4000 vga and new dell '06 bios, but the problem come back always. (+I tried on windows 7; always is ok!)

Dell inspirion 3521-intel hd 4000-core i3

My power plan (when plugged in):

Dim display: 2 min
Turn off the display: 3 min
Put the computer to sleep: never (on battery 1 hour)

A:Black screen after sleep mode and screen off (in power safer mode)

I dont think it's your touchpad specifically.  It will go out whenever the i/o is interacted with.  It will probably go out even if you plug your cell phone.  Since removing Mcaffee I havent had any problems.

I'm not exactly sure with what I downloaded, but all that i think i have downloaded in the past week are PDF docs and videos from hdvideo (when the problem started to happen). From there, I could only surf on Safe Mode with networking, whereas when I start windows vista normally, things do not open when I attempt to do so. Moreover, it takes forever when i press Ctrl Alt Dlt, but there it says the system "failed to start security options" and from there it's an eerie black screen with the start logo on the bottom left that cannot be clicked. The only method I could get the computer to restart was to manually switch it off and on.
I recently used Malwarebytes but it did not detect anything.

Additional details about my laptop:
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8400 (2.26GHz)
Windows vista home premium
Memory 2GB
Hard Disk drive 250gb

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated, I really need printing back <3

Starting last week my computer started to go into sleep mode all by itself.
I thought I pressed the sleep key on my keyboard and didn't do anything about it.

Now my computer goes to sleep without warning every.. 5 sec. ~ 5 minutes.

I didn't install any new hardware and I've scanned my computer for viruses, ad/spyware.

I tried switching keyboards and some other stuff but it didn't help at all..
Any help is appreciated.

I have a compaq presario, CQ56 115DX Notebook, by HP.
Problem started last week and resurfaced again this monday.
could not get my notebook out sleep mode, the caps lock was blinking once, indicating a cpu problem.
took it in to a tech, who changed the cpu. System was running until 2 days, ago, when again, could not get it out of
sleep. Press the power button, turns the laptop off completely, press again, back to sleep, with caps lock blinking once, indicating cpu issues. Took it back to tech, who now thinks it could be the motherboard.
Washed the motherboard, still will not boot up. So how can I boot it up, whats the problem?

I'm having trouble figuring out how to set my sleep mode so that it doesn't get triggered if I'm running background processes. It keeps interrupting scans, downloads, uploads, etc. The thing is, I don't want to stop my computer from ever going into sleep mode because I don't want it to just keep running if I'm not using it for anything. Is there a way that I can set it to sleep ONLY if I don't have background stuff running? My old computer just did it automatically and when I looked through the settings (I have the XPS15) I couldn't find any options other than a specific number of minutes or never.

A:sleep mode

You must change the setting before Windows loads. Reboot the Computer, you'll need to hit a "F(X)" button. Like F8 or F10 which will take you to the BIOS setup menu. This is where you can toggle sleep mode on/off. If windows starts to load, you didn't do it. You must enter the menu seconds after the computer is first turned on. If you see the Windows Screen, start over until you get into the menu.
