Preferred Solution: Windows 7 Security Updates for June 2016

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Has anyone been able to get the June 2016 updates for Windows 7 by the normal "Checking for updates" method?

I haven't have any trouble obtaining the June 2016 updates for Windows XP and Windows 10, but Windows 7 is a different story.

I heard that Microsoft was going to change the way that Windows 7 users start receiving monthly updates, and apparently it has.

If you're using Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit and have it configured with the POSReady registry tweak so it can continue to receive security updates through April 2019, a total of 4 security updates for June 2018 are available at the Microsoft Update Catalog site.

Download and save all 4 security updates, then install them in order by KB number.

Do NOT restart your computer until all 4 security updates have been installed.

There are 8-10 more XP updates to do since the one released in May according to this article:https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-issues-windows-xp-security-updates-for-previously-ignored-nsa-hacking-tools/
-- It's not clear to me whether the first one on the list includes all others or is each one separate?
-- In what sequence should we install them?
There also seem to be perhaps two more in addition to the 9 above, mentioned here:https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/msrc/2017/06/13/june-2017-security-update-release/
-- Which to take (or not) ?

A:June security updates - Need advice

Your Microsoft blog link doesn't work, but I would advise taking every security update available for your version of XP.

These are individual updates and don't have an installation order.

You are likely not running Windows XP Embedded so you would ignore those.

I would be surprised if you were running Windows XP 64-bit, but to be sure, type winver in a Run box.

If it does not explicitly say Windows XP 64-bit, you don't have it.

Does anybody have had problems logging onto Windows 7 after June 2016 Windows Updates?

In my network, all the computer look for their desktop, my documents, etc on a server. After the Windows updates, they cannot logon, because they cannot reach the server. My workaround has been:

Logging on as local administratorMake sure that I can reach any file shared on the server via \\<server name>Change to 1 minute the time that Windows 7 take to check whether a network folder is online or offline.

I am wondering  which Windows Update could have cause these problems.

Hello,
Luca here. Basically I have been encountering 4 BSODs with different codes after I installed some Windows 7 updates on June the 15th. I ran various tests (Prime 95, Memtest, a native window ram test and an HP System check upon booting) all of the were negative (no errors encountered). One of the BSODs popped up while I was running an instance of Memtest, unfortunately I did not track down the STOP code. They seem to pop up at random times, while I'm doing very different activities. THe first one came up while I was watching a youtube video, the others I have encountered while leaving the PC on but not using it. Also yesterday the PC seemed to not be able to pass POST, so I wasn't able to turn it on for a good 3 hours, then It started working again. Throwing this in there, maybe it will give you guys some insight on what my problem may be.
I'm attaching a RAR of the 4 crash dumps.
Thanks in advance to whoever will take the time to reach out and help

My system specs are:

Model : HP m9292.it
CPU : Intel Core2 Quad Q9300 2.50 GHz
RAM : 8 GB DDR2 400 MHz Corsair RAM
Motherboard: Pegatron Benicia Motherboard
GPU : AMD Radeon HD 7700 Sapphire 1 GB
Drives : 2 Seagate ST3750640AS 750 GB

A:BSOD after Windows 7 updates June 15th

I would first try seeing if you can re run memtest again and try and note the stop error code; cause it sounds like you MAY have one or more bad sticks of ram due to the fact that its popping a bsod on ya while trying to run memtest.

Hi everyone, I'm new here, looking forward to speaking with you all. Hopefully I'm posting in the right area!

I help my mom with most of her computer issues, and I'm usually able to troubleshoot most of them without much difficulty, but today I've encountered a real whopper that I just can't figure out

So here's what's going on:

This morning, she ran windows updates (from what I can tell this is the latest Tuesday patch from June 11). Everything downloaded fine, but the installation phase froze -- so she did a hard reset on the computer, which is an HP laptop.

Everything boots and Windows loads fine, but once she gets to her desktop, everything is very slow and she can't load any programs (clicking icons does nothing). This seems to include explorer, since accessing my computer / documents etc. doesn't want to load either.

I had her go into safe mode and do a restore point (for 6/8/2013), but the problem seems to persist. I've also run chkdsk and scf /scannow, both finding no problems.

Additionally, in the windows update repair tool (er, I think I'm messing up that name, hopefully you know what I mean) it states that it's found issues with windows update, but after running the program, it says:

"Repair Windows Update Components - Not Fixed"

And no amount of pleading seems to be able to make it fix it. Or do much of anything for that matter.

I've tried to be as detailed as possible, but please let me know if you need additional information.

Several people are posting about having various problems after running the latest Windows Updates. Those who have tried to do a system restore to a date before the updates are encountering further problems where the crypt32.dll file has gone missing thereby rendering the machine unbootable.

This is just emerging and I'm sure Microsoft will issue a fix rapidly but until then it might be a good idea to turn off automatic updates temporarily so they are not downloaded and if you've already installed them and are having problems do NOT do a system restore but hang tight until further notice.

A:Apparent problem with Windows 7 updates - June 13/14, 2012

I know nothing about the problem(s) and had no trouble updating three systems plus two VirtualBox guest systems. A frequent cause of Windows update problems is a security suite or other firewall, anti-virus or anti-spyware. So, if you do go ahead and update before getting some definitive word on this disable your non-Microsoft security applications during the update process. And remember to re-enable it/them after the required reboot.

What is the verdict on MSKB3161608 - June 2016 update rollup for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1?

I see that MSKB3161608 includes quite a few patches, including MSKB3161647 - Windows Update Client for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: June 2016. In the past, I think some people mentioned MS possibly slipping in some Win10 crap with patches to the Windows Update Client.

For Windows 7 SP1 systems that will not be "upgraded" to Windows 10, does MSKB3161608 (or MSKB3161647) include any nasties, Win10 garbage, or MS-suprises?

For Windows 7 SP1 systems that will not be "upgraded" to Windows 10, is MSKB3161608 a recommended install?

Actually, you still can upgraded to Windows 10 as this will end on July 2016, as announce.
I refuse to install, as i am used to Windows 7.

I think you can do it, because it keep showing when going to MSN website.
Try it, as it may works.

Sometimes i don't understand why people so like to do update this patch that so on....
When it is good and ready, Windows update will push to your pc, definitely.
You can go > Start --> Windows update, then it pop-up to remind to upgrade to Windows 10 (was downloaded into my pc.)

Hiya

Microsoft has released a patch that eliminates a security vulnerability in Visual Studio RAD (Remote Application Deployment) Support, an optional sub-component of FrontPage Server Extensions. This sub-component contains an unchecked buffer in a section that processes input information. By establishing a web session on with the server and passing a specially malformed packet to the server component, an attacker could cause code of his choice to run on the server.

A:Microsoft's Redstone update coming in June and October 2016

Please don't pull a, "it's windows 8... now it's windows 8.1"

Make it Windows 10, update windows 10, and when that is done have windows 11.

That would conform with the whole windows thing..

Need assistance removing Zeus virus from Apple iPad via my desktop computer (iPad browser screen is locked - can't access internet).

A:Zeus Virus has infected my Apple iPad - June 6, 2016

I can confirm that it is not a Zeus trojan, it only affects Windows OS, not iOS.

When you say iPad browser screen is locked, do you mean it is stuck on Safari? Can you access anything on the iPad?

Just wondering if anyone ran across this. Since deploying the June patches to about 100 machines, 20 or so now have the Action Center popping up complaining about backups (we don't use backups) and Windows Update being disabled by the system administrator
(we use SCCM to deploy patches). Has anyone else seen this behavior. We can certainly hide Action Center through a GPO (and probably will), but I'm just curious where this is coming from suddenly.

After installing KB3161949 on Windows 7 and 8.1 Professional, mapped network file shares become unavailable (red x). This seems to be an issue when the systems reside on separate networks (like Public/Private) Shares are only accessible via IP or FQDN.
Uninstalling the update restores access. Microsoft needs to pull this update!

Hi,          Please do contact the HP Support over the phone or chat or email and they will be able to help you out with updating the warranty. You would have to send a copy of the invoice to the email ID provided by the support agent.

Thank you and good holidays!

A:F-Secure Internet Security 2016 VS Norton Security 2016

In my opinion, Norton gives you a better protection. He has SONAR( Behavior protection), very good feature.
Fsecure uses Bitdefender engine but isn't the best AV according AV Comparatives.
Norton is light, has strong firewall, good signatures and cloud reputation + Sonar protection for zero-day threats.

There was an Office vulnerability that was fixed with the April patch Tuesday in an Office update, but we've had trouble making sure all users have the updated Office patch as N-Central(our patch management tool) doesn't always list what build/patch Office
is currently running accurately.

We do know all our PCs have the April/May security updates. Is the Office Update combined into the big monthly one?

IE 11 (with the latest June 2016 patches) on Windows 7, Windows 10, and the latest Windows 10 Insider Build (14385) reports that it is IE 7, thus causing many websites to display incorrectly.
As evidence, using the site, http://useragentstring.com/, IE 11 is sending the following string:  "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; Trident/7.0; .NET4.0C; .NET4.0E; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; .NET CLR 3.5.30729;
InfoPath.3)".   This suggests that IE11 is telling websites that it is Internet Explorer 7.0.

I reported this on July 1st (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-networking/when-using-ie-11420105860-google-calendar-says/df201160-6c34-4899-91b7-11f188e4b7a2?auth=1) and it doesn't appear to have been taken seriously!
Our IT folks are asking us to abandon IE and switch to Chrome.  Please

Make a hotfix available prior to the next Patch Tuesday;Make sure this is fixed before the Windows 10 Anniversary Build is completed this month;Make sure that a fix is included in the July Patch Tuesday.

PLEASE TAKE THIS BUG REPORT SERIOUSLY!

Hiya

As Whitesnake once said 'here we go again on my own...'

Microsoft has released a patch that eliminates a security vulnerability in NetMeeting, an application that ships with Microsoft® Windows 2000 and is also available as a separate download for Windows NT 4.0. The vulnerability could allow a malicious user to temporarily prevent an affected machine from providing any NetMeeting services and possibly consume 100% CPU utilization during an attack

Also:

Microsoft has developed an improved version of the Cipher.exe tool, offering an important new option – the ability to permanently overwrite (or "wipe") all of the deleted data on a hard disk

A:F-Secure Internet Security 2016 vs Panda Free Antivirus 2016

If a security soft ranks amongst the top performing AVs, it won't matter much if it does function correctly or causes problems on your specific system.

From lab test results F-Secure has an edge over Panda during testing the past few years in terms of detection (although higher false positives).

From users, it seems more prefer Panda - which is one of Neil Rubenking's (PCMag) favs (that don't mean much - but that is just my opinion).

I'd say, in terms of overall protection, Panda has a slight edge; it might protect your system in a few instances that F-Secure will not.

Dear IT Pros,
I have 2 questions that need your help and professional advice.
1) Does Microsoft has a tool to check whether a patch (KB) was superseded by another KB? In my case, I'm trying to search whether this KB4022715 and KB4025339 (both of this KB was released in 2017) was superceded
by another KB. This is because a security consultant has advised us to install both of this KB to prevent vulnerabilities but since it was released back in 2017, I suspect there must be a newer KB that supercedes it
2) Can advice what KB I need to download regarding this 2 bulletin ID CVE-2017-5715 and CVE-2019-11135? Can't seem to find it after much googling

Thanks in advance for the help
