Preferred Solution: Ethernet not working on new MOBO

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Ethernet not working on new MOBO

Are all drivers installed according to Device Manager? Is the ethernet enabled in BIOS?

Hey Guys,
I just recently rebuilt my old desktop. Its a XP Pro, Athlon 2400, 1 GB ram, 6600 GT, 120 GB, and a VIA m7vit pro mobo. It has always run fine, and I've rebuilt it at least 5 times before. This time, I moved it into a new case. Fired it up, and the internet and usb didn't work. Reinstalled 3 times, each time with the same problems. The Ethernet port doesn't show under 'new connections' and the USB mouse doesn't work after the first reboot. I can't imagine what is causing the problem. Any ideas?

A:Problems with Ethernet and USB, probably Mobo issue?

Well I have heard that if you have two eithernet ports on your MOBO then you can put in two eithernet cords and assign one port for upload and the other for download. How do I do this?

A:Dual ethernet ports on Mobo?

No, it doesn't work like this. Also, it would be totally pointless. First, ethernet interfaces are full duplex, meaning that even a single ethernet port has separate wires for "download" and "upload". Second, your internet connection is orders of magnitude slower than ethernet, so any adapter bonding would be useful only for connections over the LAN.

I woke up this morning expecting to see my download complete and instead woke up to a dead PC. I noticed that my power had gone out because they are changing a pole near my house. So I started up my PC and found that I had NO ethernet! Good thing I have this old Netgear USB Adapter. The first time this happened my PSU started making a high pitched whine that I have never heard before and it still does it if I shut it off for more than a second and turn it back on. The only way to fix it is to shut it off real quick then turn it back on, haha. I have an Ultra X-Connect 500W.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the dual Gigabit ports and restarting my PC but still nothing...last time this happened they just started working after a restart...no idea how it was fixed. Another thing, it seems like my ports are not even starting up, because there is no orange light when I plug the cable in like usual...

If anyone has a possible solution I would be very grateful, also if you need more info just ask.

A:Asus M2N-Sli Deluxe Mobo Ethernet Problem

Okay no worries. I unplugged my PC for about 5 minutes and plugged it back in and now everything is back to normal with my internet. Also if I tap on my PSU it works fine again...that's a shifty situation.

Yay, back to normal gaming/interneting!

I have a linksys model wrt54gl v1.1 and I am using Windows Vista 32bit Home Edition. I have a pc connected to the router directly through an ethernet plus a laptop, 2 iphones and a blackberry that get wireless internet from it. 2 days ago wireless stopped working. The internet on the pc connected to the router by ethernet is still working and the power, WLAN, ethernet, and internet lights are all lit green. The internet and ethernet lights flash when data is being transferred but the the WLAN light is not flashing. I have restored the router to factory default but it is still not working. The phones and laptop are not detecting any wireless network present. Hope you can help.

Okay, this is the weirdest problem I've ever hard with computers. Here's what happened:

1. I had a few years old Pentium D 2,8GHz processor running on Asus P5VDC-X mobo. PQI 566MHz DDR2 and GF 7600GS 256mb PCI-E, 350W power.
2. I updated the mobo to Asus P5L-MX to support faster PCI-E cards. Everything worked fine, despite the processor ran too hot (58C on high use)
3. Because of the overheating I replaced the thermal paste but it had no effect on the temperature.
4. I thought I used too much paste so I replaced the paste again.
5. Bang, no video when I turn on the computer. I tried taking off everything part by part but nothing worked. It didn't work even when I only had processor and used the integrated graphics port. Tried resetting the bios too.
6. Nothing worked so I put back the old P5VDC-X and it worked like charm.
7. I thought it was logical that the problem was caused because of the mobo so I bought a new one, Asrock G31M-S.
8. No video... Did the same steps to this one too. It also had integrated gfx but it didn't work either.
9. The old P5VDC-X still works.

So I have no idea what's causing the problem. Is it the CPU? Mobo? PSU? RAM? I have no speaker on my case so I can't hear any beeps, but it won't start loading the OS from the hardrive and my USB mouse won't turn on. Tried using a differen't monitor too.

The main point is why it stopped working suddenly on new mobo's but still works with the old P5VDC-X? A... Read more

Two new motherboards tells us you made the same simple install error in both of them.
Tell us more about power supply, memory, cable.
Did you make sure the memory was correct for both new boards, and what is the memory on the old board. Would also like to know the power supply and other hard ware.
What happens with the most basic, simple install. Does everything light up?

If you used the same hard drive with the same Windows install on the two motherboards, that is the problem. Windows has detected that you have changed the motherboard and will not operate unless you reinstall Windows on the drive on each new motherboard... One install for each motherboard.
My guess is that you will be fine if you change hard drives or do reinstalls or repair installs of the Windows on the new motherboard.

All the above looks good. Using as a URL in your browser, you should get a request for the user/password for that router. Once you login, you can go to the WiFi portion, enable it, set the SSID and encryption you desire.

That is performance ram and needs a higher vdimm ie ram voltage. You are never going to be able to set vdimm on a hp motherboard.

video card- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814141034

so this is what is going on.
when you boot the pc a goes through some stuff and then stops at a screen that says :

PXE-M0F: Nvidia boot agent
Disk Boot failure, insert system disk and press enter

Here are the beep codes,

Beep Codes:
No beep at all - this means your motherboard is dead, either due to a defective or underpowered power supply, poorly seated CPU or RAM, or a dead-on-arrival board
One beep - board is working fine
One long beep then machine shuts down - faulty, improperly installed or missing CPU
1 short(Beep) System booting is normally
2 short(Beep) CMOS setting error
1 long - 1 short(Beep) DRAM ERROR
1 long - 2 short(Beep) Display card or monitor connected error
1 long - 3 short(Beep) Keyboard Error
1 long - 9 short(Beep) ROM Error
Long(Beep) continuous DRAM isn't inserted correctly.
Short(Beep) continuous POWER supply has a problem
A two-tone siren, generally caused by overheating or out of specification voltages.
Four beeps then machine shuts down. This is because this version of the BIOS will shut down your machine if no fan tachometer signal is detected on the fan header. Make sure you attach a fan to the FAN1 or FAN4 header or clear CMOS to reset to default (no checking).

Make sure your cables are not gounding anywhere. Specially your IDE cables, because I once had my IDE cable stuck under the motherboard and it did the similar thing. Also first try using just the cpu, HDD, and memory. Plug all the other components later.

Hope this helps.

Vista Ultimate 64-bit, ASUS Rampage Formula motherboard, USB mouse and keyboard connected in back ports.

Two things happened: Avira antivirus warned me of some threats which I either ignored or deleted. Windows Update had some updates ready (although I'm not sure if it updated).

I turned off my PC for a couple of hours, turned it back on and realized that my USB keyboard was not working on the password screen.

I eventually unplugged it from the back and plugged it into the front, where it worked. However, my USB mouse did not work when plugged into the second front port, nor did it work when plugged into the front port in which the keyboard worked.

I accessed System Restore using my keyboard and restored to one day previously. When it finished, both keyboard and mouse worked, although I got a pop-up message alerting me that the "drivers for your device could not be installed." When I clicked "OK," the mouse stopped working again.

I have checked BIOS and both mouse and keyboard are recognized, so it does not appear to be a hardware issue.

Hello, i have a desktop computer which used to get internet from a secondary router we had. It is a Jensen Scandinavia. One day when i logged onto my computer i noticed i had no internet, and it hasnt returned since that. It shows a yellow exclamition point by the internet icon, and says no internet Access. My secondary router Works fine With everything else than my computer, both wifi and Ethernet. Of all Electronics we have in the house, its only my computer who doesnt work. I have a cable that goes from my main router and to the secondary router, if i stretch that into my room it will allow me to get internet Access, so the problem isnt my main router. My Ethernet port on the computer is blinking green some times aswell, but i get no firm Connection. I also do not have a default Gateway.

Additional info: when my internet stopped working, i looked into my Device manager and found pseudo tunneling Interface With a yellow exclamition mark. I uninstalled it in hope that it would be reinstalled and making my computer work aagain, but it didnt get reinstalled ;(

Ty for the help, much appreciated.

A:Ethernet not working!

The Pseudo Tunneling Interface is for IPv6, which is not used currently for Internet Access. When you right click this yellow flag and Uninstall it , it should not come back.
If you have no other yellow flags in the Device Manager, then to test your internet connection, plug this computer directly into the Main Router rather then the secondary one.
Then follow these instructions Pre-posting Requirements - for both Wired and Wireless Connectivity Issues and paste your ipconfig log in your next post.

Welcome to TSG
Ok.So is this the only pc on your home net that is having this problem ?
And it is ethernet not wireless ?
Make and model of modem and ISP name ?
So from the failing pc let's see:

From a Johnwill post on the Networking Forum

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

PING <computer_IP_address> For addresses,follow instructions below….

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING www.yahoo.com
Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. IPV4 for Vista

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

My ethernet connection seems to have suddenly crapped out which has left me using the USB port. But that means I cannot establish my home wireless network.

My ISP troubleshooting help line could not tell me anything beyond it being an ethernet problem.

Any help troubleshooting and re-establishing is much appreciated.

A:Ethernet not working...

"... ethernet connection seems to have suddenly crapped out" implies
1. bad ethernet adapter,
2. bad ethernet cable, or
3. bad something at the other end of the cable.

Can you try another cable?

Can you try something different at the other end of the cable (e.g., if it was a router, try a different LAN port)?

Can you try the same setup but with a different computer?

I'm having a very similar problem. I can connect wirelessly using my laptop to the internet through my netgear router, but not using my desktop. The desktop is plugged in directly to the router through the ethernet port, but the router light indicating a wired connection isn't lighting up. I've tried installing the router software on the desktop (running winXP), but the installation won't complete as it can't detect the router.

Device manager says that the adaptor is working properly, but the icon in systray says that a network cable is unplugged. I've tried 4 different cables, so I don't think they're to fault.

When I open the command prompt on my desktop and type ipconfig /all:

Ethernet adaptor local area connection:

media state: ...... media disconnected
description:...... SiS900 pci fast ethernet adaptor
physical address:... 00-14-85-6F-AE-05

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.s. When I plug my laptop in to the router using the ethernet cable, the router's light comes on, showing that it is connected.

My ethernet is not working but my wifi on the same computer is working(using wifi to post this). I attached an image of my resource monitor it shows me trying to download. The weird part is sometimes it goes up to my normal speed(32mb/s) for like 4 seconds and then it drops to not working at all and when I try to load a website I have to refresh a few times and pray.

I tried connecting the wire to my laptop (same wire and wall port) and it works fine. I ran malwarebytes and found one threat but the problem was not solved. I ran it again a few more time and it says I don't have anything else.

I have no idea what's (kinda computer noob) going on so any help would help.

Hi there!

I have no experience at all with computers/connection issues, so apologies for my poor use of terminology.

I live in the Bay Area and I have xfinity/Comcast.

Around a week ago, I stopped being able to connect to Ethernet. After troubleshooting, I found that the error was "One or more network protocols are missing" or "Windows Sockets Empty".

I have already tried the following things:
1. Reset my computer / made sure all the cords were plugged in
2. Did a "netsh" in command prompt to reset my IP
3. Gave "Full Control" to everyone in folder 26 in my Registry Editor
4. Did a "netsh" to reset my winsocks
5. Disabled NETBIOS on both wifi/ethernet

I also couldn't find any new drivers...

Each time I tried one of these fixes, I would have ethernet for ~5 minutes after I restarted my computer. Afterwards, it would instantly disconnect me and connect me back to WiFi.
After I tried disabling WiFi, my ethernet connection would still dc, but I would simply have to troubleshoot it, and would work again after restarting my adapter.

Is there any way for me to fix problem for good? My WiFi cuts off really randomly from time to time and that's really frustrating..

If there's anything I missed please let me know and I'll try to provide it!

Thank you so much!

My question is, is there something I can do to fix this? For example, a value in the BIOS?

A:Different Mobo Ram Slots not working

I have an Asus M3A-770, and as far as I understand the yellow slots are non-dual channel. Check compatibility too, OCZ RAM is know for a fair few conflicts.

My brother just got back from his senior trip (which was 10 days long) and forgot to turn his computer off (not sure if that has anything to do w/it). His computer is 2 yrs. old and everything plugged into the back (i.e. mouse, keyboard, usb mic, moniter...) is not getting power/working. I Was wondering about this problem, what is it. Motherboard crashed? Something got unplugged? His computer still turns on and works but nothing gets power so you cant see what is going on. I rememeber when i first got my computer this happened and i had to send it back and they gave me a new one, but what is the problem here.

Thanx 4 the help, i appreciate it,
Pat W.

A:Everything plugged into MoBo not working

Not clear on what you mean by "turns on and works but nothing gets power". How is it working if nothing is getting power?

When you turn it on, does anything turn on (fans, drives spinup, anything?).

Any storms while he was gone?

Try pulling out all unnecessary components/cards (modem, nic, other cards, extra memory sticks, unplug cdrom drives, floppy, etc) and try it. Anything?

If not, could be PS, processor, board??? Do you have any parts you can swap with his to narrow it down?

I got a new HP Pavillion a1610n Media Center PC which Hard Drive I formated, partitioned and installed Windows XP Pro OS on partition D to dual boot with Windows Vista that I installed on partition C. When I boot to Windows Vista everithing works perfectly, but as for Win XP it was a mess. Since I had no drivers to installed I had to do an Internet search and managed to get the drivers for graphics and sound which are working, but I cannot conect to the Internet, though I installed the recomended (NVIDIA nForce)driver for windows xp.

The device manager lists 3 other devices missing:
.Other PCI Bridge Device
.PCI Simple Communications Controller
.Unknown Device
I forgot to mention that I did not find any drivers I needed for this mobo on the HP, nor the ASUS webpages.
Any help will be deeply appreciated,
Thanks in advance.

All the drivers are available at the www.hp.site. Since it is new, you need to get support from HP, so you do not avoid your warranty.

It all started when i checked my HD and found some bad blocks. I also got BSOD from time to time.
So I decided to get a new HD (Seagate 80G IDE). I installed it and BIOS recongnized it. But when installing WinXP i've got "Setup cannot copy file". I've tried it several times and it happened to the same files again. I've installed this new HD on another computer and Windows installed ok there. So I guess my new HD is ok.
Then i tested my memory. And I've got huge number of errors starting from the first pass. So i replaced my old 256 SDRAM with new 512 DDR (i switched 10 f****** jumpers for this on my mobo!!!).
I still got some memory errors but was able to install WinXP on my HD. It worked for a while and now I get BSODs again and can't boot to my new WinXP.
I know I sound crazy 'cause I want this old thing working. But I just don't want to throw everything away! I want to know what's wrong.

A:I want it working (mobo problem or CPU?)

Mobo: Socket-478 P4IBASD (Elitegroup)

I can't get my new gear to start, figuring its the powersupply.

Got a 2.4ghz 3700 AMD 64

The psu er...power cable to the mobo has 20 pins and the mobo has 24 pins...

Nothing comes on, no fans at all.
there are 4 leds on the mobo if 2 are lit it means it ready for start up, and they are lit.
The other two are not lit and according to the motherboard manual it means that there is a "cpu/chipset error"

My biggest question is, will a 20 to 24 pin converter thing make it work, or in theory, should it?

A:New Mobo+Powersupply not working

A converter will work. I use one myself. BUT according to the link that you provided, the PSU can handle a 24 pin motherboard connector by utilizing that detachable 4 pin connector. That's what the 20 + 4 means. However, there is another square 4 pin connector (P4) you MUST connect that is located near the I/O panel. There is a third connector, a molex, that only needs to be connected if you are using SLI according to your motherboard manual.

We have an E-Machine computer. It's a T2625 model. It kept turning off on it's own and acting strange, finally it just quit and we replaced the power supply and it worked briefly after the PSU was replaced but then didn't work again. The motherboard did go out with it because we tested it. The motherboard has been discontinued but we found one online that was new and the exact same one that was in it and ordered it because emachines wanted $160 for the replacement kit for the motherboard and now it still doesn't work. You can hear everything running but there is no video output at all. We have tried alot of different things and still nothing. Could the processor and/or RAM be bad too?? Also it currently has an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (2.13 GHz) processor in it now and for RAM it's got 512 MB DDR (PC2100) in it. If we go ahead and buy a new processor and RAM just to try, how do we find what's compatible for this computer?? Thanks!!

A:Help..Replaced PSU and Mobo and still not working??

What you report is typical of the motherboard failure that impacts more than 50% of the T2625 eMachine computers. The T2625 is one of 14 eMachine computers which has unusually high rates of motherboard failures within two to three years of purchase.
Your only choices will be to replace the motherboard with one from eMachines for $159.95, or to buy a new motherboard of another manufacturer - which will most likely require a store-bought version of Windows... as the exisiting eMachines recovery disc set will only work when it can detect the "tattoo" on the ePROM of an eMachines motherboard.
Usually, your hard drive, memory, modem, and new power supply will work fine with the new motherboard but you will need to check carefully to assure that your CPU will work. There are many deals at many seller websites which include a motherboard and CPU bundle for $50 to $100.
The hard drive will not work without contact with Microsoft to get the product ID registered. Usually Microsoft will tell you that the Windows XP install dies with the motherboard dies, but some people have slickered them into allowing the drive to be moved to a new system.
If it were my decision, I would take this opportunity to buy a new or refurbished computer.
Good luck to you. Let us know how it all turns out.
